Anything where the characters wear normal clothes which covers a lot of shows.

I'm also going to go ahead and say that just because you can buy the clothes anywhere, it doesn't automatically mean your cosplay will be perfect. A lot of people seem to miss important details which just makes it seem worse than if the cosplay was more involved

The issue with most cosplays like these are that the clothes are not the focal point. This covers most non-animated TV characters and the rare animated character.
You have to really look like the character/do a really stellar hair and makeup job for the cosplay to be even remotely recognizable. You trade one area of expertise for another.

Team Skull Grunts are super easy and a big hit at cons. Easy to make it look good, but even if you look shoddy, it's a ton of fun.

From Colossalcon 2016. I had my dress made because it is surprisingly hard to find a white, tight dress that isn't that nylon slip that people sell from $5-$10. But mostly everyone else seemed to take a trip to their local retailer.

That isnt incorrect. When i cosplayed Dr. Grant it took me forever to find the right kind of hat. I also have a rounder face like Sam Neill so I look close enough that i get recognized instantly. I think as long as you're honest with yourself about how you look i think live action cosplays are fine. They make great Sunday cosplays.

Honestly, learning to sew and make props isn't just about being lazy, it's also about money
For sewing, you'd have to purchase a sewing machine, then buy patterns (in the beginning at least) and then pay for fabrics to work on. And then the first pieces you make will probably be really bad until you get better.
Also, everyone doesn't improve at the same speed, so some people might have to spend a lot of money and time before they even get something semi decent
As for making props, it's about the same, except you need a loooot of tools to be able to do a good job. And the materials can be really pricy

I'm not trying to defend everyone, but just, everyone enjoys this hobby for different reasons. If someone just likes to dress up as imaginary characters without the arts and crafts aspect of the hobby, why should they invest so much time, money (and space, not everyone has space to store all the stuff you need) and energy for something you're not even that interested in?

9 times out of 10 just sourcing normie clothes for cosplay is going to make you look like shit and be utterly unrecognizable. And beyond that, you need some sort of skill set to effectively cosplay, or know someone that does. There's still hair/makeup.
I get that things being cost-prohibitive sucks, but if you can afford to get into a decently sized convention, you can afford to put some effort into cosplay.

If the character is popular enough, then yes. It's recognizable. Harley Quinn's entire ensemble can be bought at Hot Topic. There are plenty of cases where the main characters themselves are wearing entirely normie clothing and still iconic. Most expensive thing on pic related could have been the vest from a store of aliexpress.

As for makeup and wigs, it's still cheaper to buy a decent wig and nice makeup. I like to get things commissioned because I don't have the space or materials to make a lot right now but not all cosplays need to be custom made.

ZTD I think would do better. To get a good 999 group you would need some people who are decentish at sewing (Clover's jacket and skirt, Akane's sleeves, Snake's jacket etc). Plus finding Junpei's vest in decent colors/making sure you dye it well could be rough for some new people and it's his most iconic part.

ZTD's new designer made shit super easy though. I think people even started making Sigma's patch.

I have the full gear, but my karate pants are WAYY to baggy.

I got a suit off amazon, I'm pretty well built from the top up but I like ot keep my legs smaller for slim fit jeans.

But even if I were legit overweight by 30lbs, the pants are still WAY too baggy.

The karate gi fits perfect and giges me a good V-taper especially with the belt, but the pants seem like it was made for someone 60lbs heavier.

I liked it a lot, gave me deep feelings.
It's really comfy at the beginning, then it gets a bit dark but it gets a happy if bittersweet ending.
I prefer older shit but it's worth a watch in my opinion.
In terms of aesthetics it's similar to SeL but it's not an artpiece with random images all around, it's told like a normal story.

I partially disagree. If you're cosplaying from a non-anime styled video game or a tv show, I'd recommend using normie clothes since it looks more realistic, especially if they also need to be weathered.

Probably the easiest/closet cosplay I've done was Reno from FFVII. Had to buy the wig online though.

I cosplayed as Junpei twice and noone recognized me. One person asked if this was a BTTF cosplay.

Then I participated in a 15-person group cosplay with characters from all three ZE games. Three people total recognized us, in the busiest day of a 140k visitor con.

So yeah, it's not the most popular thing, but if you like the charaters then you should definitely go for it. It's always great to see more ZE cosplays :)

I was thinking of doing Tonio from DiU this year.
Really liked his character and I already work in the kitchen, so chef whites arent a problem. The hat eith the emblem is the tricky part.
