So, attempting to get back on topic, what's the oddest merch you've ever seen used in a bag? Barring the Rilakuma condoms from a few threads back, since I think that would be the answer for most of us.

I've found this mousepad that I'd /like/ to use in a bag, but I'm not sure if it'd be practical due to difficulty attaching it and how much space it would take up.

Unrelated, but I hate how much getting into this has made me love trawling YJA and such for merch. I just found out about mercari last weekend and I spent way too much time looking for shit.
>>
>>9382154
You could attach a piece of cardboard or the like to the back so it's not so flimsy. I don't think it'd be weird at all though.
>>
thank to the anons in the last thread alerted me to mercari! but my usual SS (FJ) won't order from them....so which one(s) will?
>>
So advice, I'm flying out to a con in a couple weeks and I want to bring my itabag. Should I try and bring it thru airport security as a carry on? Last time I brought it in my check in bag but I kinda want to use it as my purse and carry it on.
>>
>>9382222
It should be okay if it's clear everything is just a button or keychain in xray. I had a decoden phone covered in silicone that got pinged for a check because in xray it looks like something packed with explosive gel
>>
>>9382209
Anon, in the time it took you to post this, you could've found the SS thread in the catalog, ctrl+f'ed 'mercari' in it and found your answer. We're not going to spoonfeed peeps who can't be asses to look themselves.

>>9382174
Oh, I guess I wasn't clear on this. By odd I meant merch you usually wouldn't see used in a bag, i.e. stuff aside from keychains and badges and such!

Does anyone have any examples of bags done for musicians or bands? Been thinking of making one.
>>
>>9383201
Shrink plastic is really fun and I'm liking the results but the trial and error is pretty tedious, so far.

>have to use up half a sheet of shrink plastic for two charms
>both end up a little over an inch and a half tall
>double-sided printing limits space efficiency
>multiple designs on one sheet only further complicates things
>modge-podge somehow smears ink after an hour or two of waiting
>aerosol acrylic sealant takes eons to build up layers

I'm looking into learning how to use resin to dome them, and I really hope the results are worth it.

On the plus side, at least my DIY ita-bagging skills might be refined enough one day to sell some fan-merch on the side.

>>
>>9383544
Doming them without sealing them will probably have the same result as pouring water on them--it is a liquid after all.
How thick are you applying your modgepodge? All of your coats should be thin, and I always put down my first coat quickly and get very little smudging. after that coat's dry the rest can be done at any pace.

Dude the bag itself is obviously printed series merch, what is your problem?

Tote bags with clear covers are a staple of bagging anyways so please shelve your salt. The cover isn't even strictly mandatory, it's just common because it's terrifying to walk around with that much merch and fear for it all falling off.
>>
>>9381872
Selfposting these itanails, they're not perfect but they were fun. I'd like to try this again.
>>
>>9383544
Yeah each pin has definitely been a case of trial and error, but when they turn out it just feels so damn good. Are you using the ink jet sheets? All of mine are just hand drawn then painted after baking so it's a little different, but I wait a full 24 hours after baking/completion to mod-podge just to ensure nothing will smudge (also thinking about resin just to see if it will help them last to be honest). I can probably only ever offer my fanmerch as giveaways due to the extremely "homey" nature of mine though I sort of like that so I won't complain, but I really want to see your pins!
>>
So, I'm going to be trying to get letters off the daiso fluffy heat bags, any recommendations on what to use to get the lettering off?

I don't have any nail polish remover but I have acetone because of work. So I was thinking of using that because it's the same chemical...
>>
>>9384492
Acetone is exactly what you need, it should come right off.
>>
>>9384492
Acetone, several paper towels, and baby oil afterwards to give the plastic it's shine back. Be careful after you apply the acetone the paint can smear and you don't want it getting on the bag itself.
>>
>>9383799
I love that you're making a bag for Jr. It really a shame he has so little merch.

Once Wego removes an item from their site, does that mean the item is officially gone? Or is there a chance they might bring it back?
>>
>>9385039
There's some speculation that Wego might be revamping and releasing new versions of their bags, since it seems silly for them to discontinue items clearly still making them money, but there's no official word on it yet at this point.

>>
>>9383544
Hi, I've been making shrink plastic charms lately and have been having similar issues with resizing/trial-error based things. I have been sealing them with mod podge though as well (the Sparkle sealer/finish) and I have yet to have them smudge surprisingly.

I'm not sure if this will help, but I usually color the backs of my plastic with white paint. I make sure to dab very lightly as I go, only getting the paint on the actual image. After the paint dries, I then go over the backs with mod podge at least twice.

For double sided, I oddly enough get a medium-thickness of mod podge on my brush and dab as close together as I can to try and create a more even layer just to keep things from smudging. Making shrink plastic is fun but can be really frustrating. :s
>>

Please only post sales/WTB in the facebook itabag sales group
>>
>>9385093
Why? I've seen plenty anons in past threads sell/trade merch.
>>
>>9385145
That was their polite way to ask you not to shit up the thread with osomatsu-san merch. The selling & trade of merch in these threads tends to be for specific characters that are more difficult to find and specific anons are tracking down (like posting things for Iida-Anon - it's a specific character for a specific bagger, who has asked people to keep an eye out for them).

Osomatsu merch is dime a dozen, and annoying in it's prevalence. No one is ever going to have difficulty finding osomatsu merch, so there's no reason for you to post it. You're not helping anyone but yourself.

Pretty much, yeah. The lights being in there bugs me the most out of everything. All those figures just tossed onto the bottom of the bag and covered in lights and the liner is just hanging there like a crumpled bedsheet... probably is bedsheet fabric.

Looks like there's a fucking dryer sheet at the bottom of the bag too.

I recently went to japan and challenged myself to make an itabag and came up with this Natsuki bag. No surprise that it's easier to do so there but I had a challenge with trying to fit everything on...
>>
>>9386114
How much roughly did you spend? I'm curious to see how much money it takes to make one of these compared to making one in the West.
>>
>>9386120
Not that anon, but I lived in Japan last year and merch is about half the price (when you take into account shipping + proxy fees in the west) A charm will run you 300-800 yen depending on where/what you get and can badges average around 350? I kinda forget. Yahoo Auctions also has good deals. Making my itabag here in the States pains me so bad ):

Also @ Natsuki anon your bag looks so good!! I'm jealous

I've gotten to the point where I rarely check the FB group anymore, mostly because it's a lot of spoonfeeding questions and stuff like that bag. I live seeing the well put together bags but holy shit I'm tired of the same questions over and over. Maybe it's just me, but it's especially frustrating when someone is asking where to get merch for a character and you're working on a bag for the same character with no problems.
>I'm looking at you, whoever else is making a Kakyoin bag

>>
>>9386240
God I joined and stopped when I couldn't handle the new influx of Osumatsu bags that all looked the fucking same, you are stronger than me. I feel as a subculture gets larger, not matter the subject, the more lazy people become because they now have a wealth of experienced people they feel than can ask rather than try themselves. Not an issue with the subculture itself, it just gets so tiring to see it happen you know?
Anyhow I sound bitter, but at least my jacket looks fucking good now that I've painted the back patch so I can't complain. Anyone else make bags and want to try decorating something else?

Still decorating bags, but I'm currently playing around with a design idea that I've yet to see anyone do yet. I'm just waiting for the rest of my merch to ship and I'll try and put it into action. Not gonna lie, it's another YOI bag, but I'm hoping to set it apart from the sea of abysmal looking ones that's been posted lately. Here's to hope it doesn't disappoint
>>
>>9386287
I will completely admit that I pretty much like every bag that gets posted. I liked that one without enlarging the thumbnail and once I saw what it actually was I went back and unlocked it.
>>
>>9386263
This is how I've felt about itabags since these threads started becoming normal. The bags have sucked for a while, anon.
>>
>>9386120
hm... the bag is 2700 yen and i spent at most 100 yen on each natsuki charm. I remember using only a 10000 yen note as my limit for this.

>>9386175
it's super easy and if you're into anything semi popular you won't have any difficulties. I'm into extremely obscure things so I fell back on Natsuki instead.
>>
>>9386289
Chase your bliss, I want to see this design you've been cooking up. Sounds like it could be real good, I like bags that have a lot of thought put into the design elements. I'm just a salty western fandom fag who has to hand make things, so I just find a lot of these bags missing the personal touch that comes from that.

>>9386304
I agree a good percent of bags have been lacking that certain je nais se quoi for a while, but I think it just the inevitable as the fashion goes on and more people jump on to try and get it done quick and show off versus get it done thoughtfully. Just my two cents and all, but I am however enjoying seeing people now trying to take risks as new fads come and go.
>>
>>9383551

>>
>>9386309
Thanks anon! I always appreciate bags that have a personal touch to them too and I agree that there's been a lack of passion these past few months.

I'm hoping this doesn't come back to bite me in the ass, but a question/topic for the rest of the gulls. How do you guys feel when someone straight up copies someone else's bag? We have inspos yes, but usually that means someone takes one or two elements from the original bag to incorporate into their own. I've sort of encountered someone who made me do a double take because of how similar their bag was to mine. Of course they added some things to make it look nicer but I'm a bit upset that a lot of people have been commenting about how unique their bag is when we posted on the same social platform. Maybe I'm just overreacting?
>>
>>9386328

>That's basically me atm with the YOI fandom taking that person's rings idea and just calling it "inspired" when no, it's copied.
Dude, as someone who's in the process of starting their own Victuuri bag, yeah I'm gonna put in the wedding rings as well, so what? It's not everyday you get to boast your OTP is engaged in canon: no wonder people keep incorporating this element into their bags and someone came up with the idea in the first place.
If/when I post my bag once it's done, I'll make sure to link and credit the people who inspired me but honestly, it's a trend that's become so widespread it's impossible to trace it back a single person.
There is so much merch out there and so many different ways or arranging it and decorating your bag that this shouldn't even be a problem.
I'm also tired of the anons in here using a thread dedicated to itabags to shit on other people's taste. Yeah, YOI is huge right now, as were many other fandoms that are posted, so what? I look at bags for characters I don't know or straight up dislike for inspiration, too, and I admire the dedication of their owners.
Sorry I'm venting like this, but YOI's the first fandom in almost 10 years to have gripped me this much, and before then my other big fandoms/OTPs didn't even have half of the merch YOI has.
Live and let live and enjoy yourselves holy crap.
>>
>>9386397
I'm tired of the heart bags, honestly. It was my first one and now I regret getting it because EVERYONE has one.

I feel like everyone is doing them because the knockoff's are so cheap/easy to get and people just throw bags together and don't really care if they look good or not.

The YOI bags kinda helped, because I've seen a bunch of really nice ones. But usually its just a plain bag with a bunch of shit sloppily pinned on.

So, I guess more creativity? Or at least nicely put together bags.
>>
>>9386397
Mostly I feel most recent bags either are hastily put together to show off or are a standardized look so to speak. There certainly are bags that try and get a unique look, but I feel a majority are either too sparse/rushed or just the fucking same. I like cute touches especially handmade or little extra added to the bag itself. Like the first fairy lights bag or fake flower bags are cute, but now it has become such a copied thing I'm like "hope this doesn't get passé because it genuinely was a cool idea.
>>
>>9386607
It's only worth if you have a set up where there's no protective cover over the whole bag. I had an open bag layout and some buttons did get scratched.
>>
>>9386787
I'll definitely be using a bag with a vinyl cover because I'm terrified of losing anything. So I guess the badge covers won't be necessary. Thanks, anon!
>>
I feel like a lot of things I see here or hear about people talk about in this hobby are now saying "oh but blank did it first" or "i did it before it was cool and was super unique" or something similar. Its something that naturally happens in someone's thoughts because honestly I am sure a majority of us have had felt that.

I felt the same way with the heart bags getting so popular then got a thank you mart bag to stand out more but now everyone has one too. It's nice to have a hobby expanding this fast and all however it does come with people who just get a cheap bag and throw stuff in it and call it an itabag or ask questions that have been answered hundreds of times already.

I am glad this is getting more popular because it creates a community where we can share and show our love for our husbandos/waifus/fandoms so sadly we just gotta stop with the "oh but i/she/she/whatever did it first and copied" mentality. It was bound to happen and it is happening.

Atleast what we out of it is a lot of merch, new bags, and a good community.
>>
>>9386800
If you will have badges on top of each other or acrylic charms, it might be good to invest in some covers or make your own because in a bag I have, some of the badges did rub together and scrathed the surface even when I had a cover on my bag so just in case, investing in some or making your own would be a good idea if you plan on putting things on top of others.
>>
>>9386809
I get it, but people get mad about when something explodes into a big fad in all styles and subcultures it's perfectly natural desu. It's an anonymous image board, and people try to keep polite outside of it but also sometimes you have to vent about exact bag copies or when something becomes so quickly overplayed. It is just the nature of style.
>>
>>9386328
I think it kind of sucks that someone either took your idea or had it at the same time, but that's just how life is lol. Whether or not you get recognition on facebook or whatever shouldn't influence how happy you are with your bag.
>>
>>9386809
I don't really get that because for me, itabags are kind of personal? Like I don't really mean the copycats everywhere because, well, if that's how you want to express your love for the character then so be it. Even if the way I express my love for the character isn't unique because I'm copying from people or people are copying from me, it's still "special" if that makes sense?
>>
>>9386827
>mean
I meant to say "care about"
>>
>>9386711
>tangent
I'm not in the fandom or even making a bag for YOI but you can definitely include the rings but in a different manner. Attaching the rings in the exact same fashion as that one person's would just further "normalize" copying something that they were creative with. Obviously the rings are important to the two characters, but consider different ways than exactly how that one person did it. That's all anyone is saying.

Inspiration isn't doing something exactly the same, which is what we're all getting at. If you like an element/concept, use it as long as you put your own personal touch.

I'm home for spring break and want to start working on some ita-jewelry I've had an idea of for a while now since I've got time and access to my resin supplies again.

Additionally, I've started tossing around the idea of making a small bag/pouch for an anime that doesn't really exist because I love how goddamn meta it'd be.
>>
I'm sad that with the wider popularity of itabags has come a thread of negativity in the community. I guess it was bound to happen, but what drew me into itabagging in the first place was always how incredibly positive these threads were. There was a very strong "There's no wrong way! Have fun! We're all huge dorks shelling out mad cash for our fictional obsessions so just have fun with it!" vibe, and I feel like some of that has fallen away now.

I thought this bag wasnt bad. Theres a lot of merch and theres symmetry to it. Maybe try a different arrangement, but I like it.

It is really sad that people are being negative and elitist about itabags lately. It's an itabag. It's embarrassing to begin with, I don't want to feel more embarrassed because of the community.

I get what you're saying anon, but I personally haven't seen any negativity in the community outside of here. And what I've seen here is pretty minimal compared to shit I've seen in other communities. Most of it is people saying they're tired of seeing certain things or stuff like >>9386309 mentioned about newer bags feeling like they lack something. It's not like we're actively calling peoples bags garbage, or making an itabag version of the lolita ita thread. Like another anon mentioned, we're on an anonymous site, which makes it good for venting about stuff we're tired of or people asking to be spoonfed.

>>9386910
Anon, the people (or person) who shat on that bag was either a shitposter or a moron who'd never seen an ita-tote before. I wouldn't use them an indicator of the overall community.
>>
>>9386937
I've been in these threads for a few months and that anon comes in here every now and again just to shit up the thread and try to make some gulls feel bad about their bags despite nothing really being wrong with them. All you can do is ignore them since there's no point in trying to shame other ita baggers for their choice in organization as long as they're actually making an ita bag.

It's different when some gulls are frustrated by people with pin bags/anyone who just doesn't understand the definition of an ita bag.

It doesn't matter how "gaudy"/"ugly" normies/other anons on this board think your bag is, as long as you're happy with it.

no one is shitting on people for making bags for a big fandom, it just gets tiresome when every 2nd bag is for the same series (or even character). it was the same with matsu shit and before that love live. it's just what happens with big, bandwagon-y type fandoms (not calling you a bandwagoner, just that the same people who jump on the hype for whatevers FOTM are the same people who make all these soulless/itabag-just-so-i-can-say-i-have-an-itabag bags that annoy other anons).

it's not about being elitist or trying to set standards like 'if you don't have x amount of merch it's not a REAL itabag, its about trying to preserve the spirit of what itabagging is supposed to be about - an extravagant display of love for a character/s. Even if your character has like 3 pieces of merch total, you can still dedicate time to your itabag by altering it to highlight your limited merch, adding decorations or self-made merch. When I come to these threads or talk to other itabaggers I want to feel a sense of unity about our shared extreme love. Not just a sad display of 'hey look at my bag do i fit in yet guyz xD' where shit is just thrown on the bag with no coherent theme or organization or real effort put in.

this is a wip on tumblr of someone handmaking their bag for a character they love that has little merch (as fast as my knowledge of FFXII merch goes lol). It's not stuffed with merch but it has a lot of cute themed touches and they're clearly putting in effort to make a display for this character. Like, it's not just about having an itabag, it's about the creation of it as well.

I think this is a neopet bag? I remember Kougras were neopets.

It's definitely got the "loads of commissions" aspect that a lot of fursonas have though.

Anyway, do any of you have any idea what shops carry this style of covers (where you "loop" the handle of the bag into the cover)? or what brand makes them? I saw one at 3 coins, but that was in shinjuku and I'd rather not go around the city looking for them.

Ah, I'm so nervous that my (first, in progress) bag is going to look like one of those soulless bags. I've managed to get a couple pieces of official merch and I'm going to make buttons out of some art I commissioned, but it feels like that won't be enough
>>
>>9389612
Yep that's a Neopets bag. One even has a paintbrush in its mouth.
It could still be a fursona bag though. Wouldn't be the first fursona I've seen modeled after a pet site adoption.

Small touches like commissioned art to me is something that should be lauded. It shows you want things to be personal and exactly to your tastes.

I think it's important to remember, among all this critique, is that you are (or in my own, personal opinion, should be) making the bag for YOU. As long as the bag looks like how you want it to look and you feel like its an accurate representation of your love, then it's good enough, regardless of what anyone has to say about it.

Here's my progress on my first ita bag! There's not any (much?) official merchandise but there's lots of really nice fan-made stuff. I mostly made it so I'd have something matching to carry stuff around in my Prompto cosplay. I have 4 more charms and a lanyard on pre-order.

I'm starting on an Ariel bag right now too. I'm trying to limit the merchandise to stuff from Disney World as it's super-easy to get ahold of Ariel stuff anywhere. I'm going to grab up a lot of Little Mermaid goodies while I'm there in a few weeks!

What do you think about making pins of official merch you can't afford? I really want the Yuri on Flowers keychains for both Yuuri & Victor. But combined with shipping would probably run around $150 plus. I'm considered making pins since it's one of the few sets that have them wearing their rings.
>>

>>9389593

but this cute, i would wear this out. i don't think id wear an ita bag out, id just have it on display.
>>
>>9389802
My feelings on it depend on a lot of factors, and overall I'd say everyone's going to have a different opinion on it. If I was in your shoes I'd try and wait and see if I could get them secondhand for cheaper after all of the series hype has died down.

I have thought of making copies of official merch myself, but it's stuff from an older series. I'm to buy this charm set here off mandarake eventually, and I want to get a good scan of the charm in the middle and make some dupes using shrink plastic. This is mostly because I love the look of multiples, plus the Ingram is my favorite mecha of all time so I want my patlabor bag to have a lot of things of it.
>>
>>9389802
to be honest i would really look down on this kind of ripping off official merch. Itabagging isn't really a budget hobby.
>>
>>9389802
...Honestly I was this close to hitting the buy button on Y!AJ for both Yuuri and Victor. But I was a chicken shit and backed out last minute. kek. I know for sure as soon as the summer season (AKA con season) is over I'm definitely hitting these up no matter the price since my wallet will have time to take a breather. If you can find both of them for $150 then that's actually a good deal in my book especially since I know they usually go for just $100+ just for one.

I think there was a thread on the fb page discussing what was the most anyone spent on a single item. These would definitely have been my priciest grail.

>>
>>9389821
I'm not a fan of bootlegging either. But spending that much on two keychains becomes a little difficult to justify. I also hate paying scalper prices for anything.

I know I'll probably end up swallowing my pride and buying them, it just wouldn't feel so bad if I didn't have to pay shipping, proxy fees, and custom fees on top of the listing price.
>>
>>9389802

I would instantly think that the person is a bandwagoner since it would just look like they couldn't wait to save the money.
>>
>>9389839
Except $150 is a lot of money. It's fine if you want to go on and on about the devotion of itabags and whatever but at the end of the day it's a piece of metal with a picture on it. No one should be buying that for the equivalent of two weeks of groceries.

I'd say as long as anon isn't trying to sell it then who cares? Especially for stuff we can only get second hand. AT that point he money isn't even going to the creator anyway, just scalpers. In the west we have a disadvantage and don't have a chance at getting these things in person for a reasonable price or taking advantage of Twitter sales.
>>
>>9389862
Or just don't buy it if you can't afford it instead of ripping off the official art? It's even more tolerable if anon just bought similar keychains from an artist. Considering how big the fandom is, I wouldn't be surprised if a flowers+wing+wedding charm popped up.
>>
>>9389862
>No one should be buying that for the equivalent of two weeks of groceries.

Sounds like that person chose the wrong hobby, then.

Seriously, you overestimate the ease with which the japanese can get certain merch. Surely they have an advantage, but let's look at the special YOl collaboration good for Marui Annex, shall we?

In order to just ENTER the shop, you had to:

get there really really during the first week, which pretty much guaranteed you any of the goods (but you can only buy one of each!)

And if you want to get one now?

Now you have to get there and go stand in line, which gives you a ticket. Said tickets are then called in a random order, which means you can get there as soon as the shop opens and not get whatever you want because it might sell out. Oh, and some of the goods (like the White Day messages) are only available to people with a certain credit card.
>>
>>9389892
I was actually about to talk about this! During comiket, people were standing in line for 6+ hours in the freezing cold hence the $50+ price tag was justifiable.

However for this particular set, I wanted to add that when said ticket is called at random you also had an additional lottery which didn't guarantee you the item you wanted. I know this thread sometimes talks about how easy and cheap it can be to get merch in japan but they also have these ridiculous processes to get the exclusive stuff as well. I know someone who stayed at the store for 14+hours just to get a chance at getting them and even went back the second day for her husbandos.

>>9389862
> No one should be buying that for the equivalent of two weeks of groceries.
You kinda forget that everyone has different budgets and limits as to what they'll go through to get their faves. You might not want to drop that much money for "a piece of metal" but somebody else will.
>>
>>9389862
idk i don't really like this attitude since it reeks of entitlement to specific merch. there will always be hard to obtain merch, but nobody is 'owed' it just because they love the character. Making bootlegs of official items because they're 'too hard' to obtain is very entitled.
>>
>>9389937
>>9389892
>>9389876
Are you really going to go up to someone though and ask if a particular button is the official one? I get why you don't approve but considering a western fan just doesn't have the ability to contribute directly to the cash flow towards the creator and isn't profiting in any way then seriously, what is the problem? And if it wasn't a mega popular fandom with a big merch following you wouldn't even notice.
>>
>>9389968
>Making bootlegs of official items because they're 'too hard' to obtain is very entitled.

A bootleg implies it's being sold for profit though. Isn't it better just to make a personal craft for your bag using official art rather than paying someone 1000% markup?
>>
>>9389968
>reeks of entitlement
These days entitlement in the con-goer community is more like:

>"I have no job and can barely pay for food but someone should buy this for me."

I don't think copying the button or buying the button is a good idea either way. Mostly because I think about all the other good merch I could get for $150
>>
>>9389821
>itabags are for richfags only reeeeeeeeeeeeeee poor people gtfo

Nothing I love more than seeing that itabag elitism crop up. Seriously though make the pin and save yourself $150 and laugh at the retard who did shell out that much becaus of course money spent = love and devotion to character
>>
>>9389969

Buttons =/= bootleg of merch. There's a huge difference betwen taking a screencap and making a button and making a direct copy of merchandise.

> but considering a western fan just doesn't have the ability to contribute directly to the cash flow

What are proxies? What is international shipping?

>>9389971
Again, it's about the fandom. Having bootleg merch of YOI, Osomatsu San, pretty much any sports anime? It's lazy as fuck and contrary to the spirit of itabags.
>>
>>9389985

Please tell me you're trying to troll and not actually this dumb.
>>
>>9389989
>What are proxies? What is international shipping?

I'm referring to stuff that was limited and the only way to get it is second-hand. The money has already been paid to the creator for the initial purchase in these cases.
>>
>>9389993
Not anon but let's face it. As amazing as itabags are they are still built on an industry that just wants you to buy pretty pictures. You can't even use the lolita argument that higher prices means higher quality. Unless we're talking Super Groupies but that stuff is not really something you can make for yourself with a button-maker.
>>
>>9389999

>>
>>9389999
>As amazing as itabags are they are still built on an industry that just wants you to buy pretty pictures

>>
>>9390010
A fool and his money are easily parted. Go ahead and spend if it makes you happy, but do have a grasp on what it's really all about.
>>
>>9389999
Isn't all art that way? You buy it because you want to admire the pretty picture and what it represents, as well as acknowledge work was put into creating that picture, producing that picture and marketing that picture. If you want something practical, go buy a new vacuum or something. Can't really carry those around in a bag though.
>>
>>9390014
See >>9389995
I buy all the manga and side stories of my favorite manga because I know the creator and assistants get a cut. But I have a hard time justifying getting a super limited edition towel from from a seiyuu event in 2012 since they'll never seen a cut of it anyway.
>>
>>9390016
I don't really see the difference in buying secondhand and buying through proxies. Scalpers are assholes for different reasons, but essentially, buying secondhand is like buying through a proxy, no? The money still goes back to the creator. What extra you're paying over the item's base price is the cost of convenience for not flying to Japan and getting the merch yourself.

And as someone who tried to get merch in Japan, even non-limited edition merch of popular shows are hard to get. If I could, I know I would charge extra when reselling an item because I stood 6 hours in line in the cold to pick it up.
>>
I kinda miss when these were just some obscure ass thing Japanese fans were doing instead of dumb as hell Americans who can't even read a faq or have to get recognition for everything they stick on their bag.
>>
>mfw people are trying to justify making bootleg merch for an anime that has literally a shitton of other, cheaper merch

Looks awesome so far! I love the arrangement you have going on. Can't wait to see more shots when you get all your merch.

Posting this WIP for a friend because she's a bit shy, but we're both stoked to find fellow Rider fans here.

Still waiting on some charms that are on preorder and a couple more cards plus a mini Garren Buckle.

>Belittling people for not spending a huge amount of money on something useless because it's not in "the right spirit of the hobby"

Literally elitism.
>>
>>9390350
Do you happen to have the sauce for that mug?
>>
>>9390350
Except that's just it, this is a hobby. You don't need anything in this hobby to survive so therefore you're not entitled to have it just because you want it. It sucks yeah but like others have said, there's reasons these pieces of merch sell for so much plus there is plenty of other merch from the series.
This hobby was built on excess. Yeah there are ways to participate on a budget but you're not entitled to every piece of merchandise you want. None of it is necessary to have. You want it, you don't need it.

Ok, I've got a couple of specific questions I wanna ask here.

1) I'd always heard that the red wego heart bag was kind of orangish, though I didn't realize how orangish it was until I saw >>9383094. Do any anons have that bag here, and if so, how similar would you say the bag's color is to the robot in my pic? They look fairly similar on my compy, but I"d like a second opinion. I'd like to know because IF it matches well, I might consider getting one of the new shoulder heart bags in red for a husbando bag.

2) Has anyone here gotten custom fabric printed for use in their bags? I know there was the one anon who got some for their animal crossing bag, but idk if they're still around. I just wanted to ask about where anyone went to do that and their experiences/recommendations and such. I'm currently looking at using spoonflower.com, since they let you buy fat quarters in addition to yards, and I probably won't need more than a couple quarters for my bags. I'm tired of all the fabrics I like at joann's being in-store only and out of stock at my local store.

Cute little bag I found of a band I like, I think the artist made those can badges and the little frame pin themselves. I'd make a bag for them too except I'm wondering how I'd even style the thing.

I was going to make fabric for my bag as well. I've purchased fabric Spoonflower before and the quality was nice.

Check if your local Joanns offers special orders. When I used to work there you could special order something if you had the sku # and if they had stock in the warehouse. I believe it'll take about two weeks and you need at least a yard. I think you just have to pay shipping, assuming the truck has to go out of the way to pick it up. My memory is a little fuzzy since it's been a while since I've worked there, but it's worth looking into if you really want certain fabric.

You're able to use your coupon if the item is regular priced and if it's on sale you'll get the sale price.

This is really cute!! I love the pins on the bottom and the rosette badge especially. I can't wait to see it finished!

The world needs more seagull sentai fans. Loving it so far!

>>9390467
it's been a while since i ordered from spoonflower, anon....but i recall that if you print anything with a lot of black, some (or all, not sure) of the fabrics don't look truly black, but more of a dark gray. this may not be an issue anymore, but i haven't ordered from them in a few years so i'm not 100% sure.

Whats your proxy/shopping preference for a small, single purchase from yahoo auctions?

Maybe its my soft spot for magical girls, but at least this is just a cute bag for magical girls. Maybe if they were to split the bag for different magical girls and put decoration, thatd be cute.
>>
>>9390049
I'm in love with this bag. I never thought I'd see an Utena bag.
>>
>>9390467
I have a red bag with black fabric from spoonflower as well. Can confirm that >>9390568 is correct. Its greyish, and looks faded. Like black fabric that's sat out in the sun.

The bag looks so orangey in the pic on the Wego site, while personally I think it doesn't look that orangey irl. I can post some pics tomorrow for you if you'd like!

When have we ever belittled someone for not having money? The only one who even implied belittling was >>9389985 and they're just being cunt nuggets assuming things of other people. What we're trying to say is that there are other merch out there if something is out of their price range or better yet, budget so that you can save up that item. If there's not enough merch, then make your own but don't try and rip off the original merch design.

i assume you're talking about this post, in which case did your limited capacity for thought give up before you read past the first sentence?

Ah how cool! I posted my bag here once ages ago when I finished it but didn't expect to see it posted here again. (I'm totally flattered so I'm going to reply to everyone who said something about it, hopefully it's not too annoying/bloggish.)

>>9390051
Thank you! I have a vinyl cutter so I whipped up a template and put it on myself-- it was actually one of the parts I was most excited about design/layout-wise.

>>9390141
>masterpiece
you sweetie <3

>>9390241
Thank you! It didn't get much attention when I first posted it here (nearly a yeah ago, dang), which is fine because it was a labor of love and I made it for myself, but it's always really appreciated to see others enjoying it too!

>>9390417
Thank you! I wont repeat my same reply about the boarder as I did a couple replies up but I am so, so happy about the boarder even if it was pretty rushed.

>>9390853
Thank you! I've been considering either getting a larger bag (bc I have more merch than I could fit on the bag-- I had most of this already before even finding out about itabags) or some smaller bags to do specific character themed ones (because this one weighs a ton haha)

Anyway this has gotten long enough. Thank you all for the comments and compliments, it's totally made my day!

Thanks guys! I wasn't planing on using any black on my design, so I'll be sticking with spoonflower.

Also, for the one anon with the red bag, I don't need pictures, I just wanted your opinion on whether the bag color is close to the red/orange of the bot I posted here >>9390467

I'm not into YOI so my Googlefu is failing me, but why is this pin so special? I'm just picturing your pic related on a cheap piece of metal running for $100+ and I can't fathom it.

Read the thread anon. It's limited edition merch, and that shit has some crazy hoops to jump through to get sometimes. See >>9389892

Also, we've been at bump limit for a while, isn't it time for a new thread?
