At least they're taking a different approach on it? Is it too early to be optimistic with LeeAnna "The living titty" Vamp sitting there as a judge?
>>
Yvette Nicole Brown is pretty legit though. She fills this great niche of either a normie who has a comprehensive knowledge of nerdy shit or a gigantic fucking nerd who's socially adept enough to pass as a normie.
>>
When I saw the word melee my mind immediately went "whoa they're having people fight each other in cosplay" And then I realized no, they obviously aren't.
>>
I have hope for it if the HoC producers have nothing to do with this.
>>
>>9359531
It was cast by the same guys who cast for Face Off, so here's hoping they brought on other people from that team for this, too.
>>
>>9359562

This

Also I hope yaya sees this and gets salty
>>
Do we know anything about who's competing yet?
>>
>>9359544
Kinda disappointing to be honest.
>>
>>9359949
Jessie Pridemore is one.
>>
>>9359949
Marty Alice LeGrow a.k.a. the writer of Bizenghast is in episode one.
>>
My only problem is the "cosplayer" they have on as a judge is Leeanna Vamp.
Does anyone else think shes really just a model? I feel like shes only popular because shes ridiculously skinny with giant boobs. It also looks like shes never made a costume that required actual effort, unless its made for her, AND rarely posts anything cosplay related anymore. Its all just lingerie model pics or advertisements to give her money. From working at a con, I'm aware shes one of the few girls that actually has an agent to push to get her jobs like this. I guess its convienient for them that she lives in Cali but really she seems incredibly under-qualified?
>>
>>9359610
I think Yaya got tired of reality shows after HoC. Plus she's making enough money to not have to do that shit.
>>
There are so many mid-to-high popularity amazing cosplayers on Instagram. I hope they end up picking people who actually produce things of quality for the show instead of people who just have a "name" regardless of what they make. I'd be far more interested in seeing slightly lesser names compete than people like yaya. Hope her/her buddies never touch this show. Not that they could anyways, considering half of them just get their boyfriends to do all the work.

Drama is nice but I'd keep it minimal. The best part of shows like this is seeing the creation process and how they fix issues last minute. I hope they don't fuck this up.
>>
>>9360286
I literally have no idea who she is.
>>
>>9360143
Dropped.
>>
>>9359949
The list I have so far of people that have posted they're contestants in it:
>Jesse Pridemore
>Zonbi
>Lisa Lou Who
> Go Big or Go Home Cosplay
>EbonyWarriorStudios
>Becks (Becka Noel)
>SKSProps
>The Props Shop
>Fred Reed
>Dhareza Cosplay
>Vertvixen

That's all I've noticed posting about it.
>>
>>9360339
Jessie Pridemore has an agent. So it makes sense.
>>
>>9360286
agreed
>>
From the trailer it looks like costuming and not cosplay as I don't see any characters that I recognize in there. Is it all original designs?
>>
>>9360415
Probably. It's simpler than getting collabs done with other companies clear to use their IP. Basically face off with more costumes focus and not fabrication/makeup?
>>
>>9360420 if it's like faceoff then they have a team in the back doing most of the work
>>
>>9360468
The Face-off teams do casting but the sculpting, painting etc is still up to the contestants. It's be lame if someone couldn't finish something because of a bad cast. It's still a TV show and they want to have eye candy for the viewing audience.

Also the definition of cosplay is really just about costumes it doesn't need to be based on a character.
>>
>>9360312
She's bragging about being on the show. She's not dropped.
>>
>>9360339
Who the fuck are these people?
>>
>>9360611
A lot of them are very talented people that don't get a lot of credit in the cosplay community. I think the only one I've seen pretty regularly is Lisa Lou Who, but that's probably because boobs and she's "friends" with Jessica Nigri.
>>
>>9360339
Jacqueline Boehner is apparently in it. She's known for that super skimpy costly that she always whines gets her banned or suit at cons.
>>
>>9360286
Exactly my thoughts.
"Crafter" is not the word that comes to her. If she does wear costumes anymore it's just the basic sexy bs.
>>
I can't see this ending well, even if they learned from their mistakes with HoC
>>
I really like face off and this looks just like it so that makes me happy. Hopefully it's not drama filled. It looks like OC do not steal costumes only so i feel like calling it cosplay is a stretch but I guess they're using the word as clickbait.
>>
>>9360610
I think they mean that they're not watching the show because she's on it
>>
>>9360286
I hate to put it this way, but if she doesn't have salt here and on lolcow, she's literally a nobody. Massive hate and frothing fanboys means you're pretty big for one of these titty cosplayers. If even /cgl/ has never heard of you, you're nothing.
>>
I haven't had cable in a long time. What was the problem with HoC?
>>
>>9361050
I didn't watch it, but from what i heard it was forced/fake drama. Not very heroic
>>
>>9361050
I have never seen it either, but from what's been said over the past few years the idea was to create this big cosplay themed show. So they went out and recruited Yaya, Monika Lee, Chloe Dykstra (who i don't even know if she cosplays or not, they could have just scooped her because of her family's reputation for effects), Riki, and bit appearances by others at the cons they went to. The show was supposed to be called "Cosworld".

Supposedly they also approached Jnigs, who deemed the show a waste because she was a big enough name who could make more money without sacrificing the time needed to do the show. In response, they had Yaya dump on her in the show to create this feud for dramatic purposes. To make things worse, at all the cons they filmed at they took over the costume contests held and relegated those not on the show to background people who had the "bad costumes" which caused a lot of backlash to the con management. The show was less about costumes and more about forced drama, which caused them to try and retool the show after the first season (most of the cast from season 1 quit at this point) but it wasn't enough and Syfy canned the thing
>>
>>9360666
She is very unfortunate. No wonder she got a boob job. It's so everyone would stop looking at her face.
>>
>>9359531
Should be called costume melee. This show has nothing to do with cosplay.
>>
>>9361064
Gotta correct a little. Monika and Becky dropped only. And that was because fan reaction to them was mostly negative. Becky to this day hasn't let go of her time on the show. She just recently shrilled that the guy that was following her around the entire time met his fiancee on the show.
>>
>>9361064
I heard that Jessica turned them down so she could do RWBY instead, not that it was a waste.
>>
>>9361166
A bit of that and her schedule conflicted. After all they could only get those certain cons to sign off on it. And the 6th con in the first half of the show canned their contract. They were smart enough to send some staff to a few of the other cons to see how it was handled. She was only at that one con.
>>
>>9361149
>Costume Melee
>Nothing to do with cosplay
>Cos=Costume Play=Roleplay

Why does everyone want cosplay just to be about official characters/designs?
>>
>>9361166
Her character barely ever talks that's a pretty poor excuse.

She probably wanted the cred of making people think she would be able to compete on an armor crafting show when in reality we have no proof she's capable of crafting anything.
>>
So it seems to be a bit more about making original costumes than "cosplay". Much like in actual contests, making an OC is pretty frowned upon
>>
Ocs are 9/10 times cringy af.
>>
Just out of pure curiosity, for those like >>9361184 >>9361149 >>9360415 who say that this isn't cosplay, how long have you been in the cosplay scene and have you ever seen Face Off?
>>
>>9361213
not them but while if you wanted to split hairs cosplay would be anything involving a costume, colloquially it is used almost exclusively when it is of an existing IP's designs. 99% of the time that's what people will think when you say cosplay and they recognize the word.
>>
with the backlash of how exclusive HOC was, surprised that people haven't commented that cosplay Melee only shows it in a competition light and only for people who make stuff. HOC was a piece of shit but least there was a more diverse group of cosplayers on there, from people who bought, chloe. Bought &modified, like Crabcats and others like Yaya who made all their own stuff.
>>
I mean it's by a different production company than HoC and done by the people behind Face Off so it can't be that bad can it?
>>
>>9361260
I have some hope but not a ton just to cautious. Face Off has avoided a surprising amount of drama even when a contestant dropped out
>>
I like face off but this seems nearly the same show :/
>>
>>9360339
Jackie Craft is in it too. I noticed her in the background of some of the clips
>>
>>9361456
Awesome. I know I am missing a number of people since it's 4 contestants each episode and I'm assuming it will be at least 8 episodes?
>>
>>9361485
I think someone mentioned 24 contestants, so my guess is probably 6 episodes
>>
>>9361702
There will probably be a couple of semi final and final episodes though with the people who win the individual episodes
>>
>>9361043
She really is nothing... the only reason I know her is because she was a guest at a a con I worked at and her manager made a shit about where her booth was located. Looking at her actual reach compared to her follower count, it looks like she bought her follower numbers in order to get booked at cons.
>>
>>9363150

Helps that she started this early on in the cosplay fame game despite being nothing
>>
>>9360610
I'M dropping the show, numbnuts
>>
>>9360342

With what money?
>>
>yfw Jnig guest appearance
>>
>>9365223
she's going to be on it too?
>>
>>9361184
>>9361149
>>9360415

Can you imagine the legal nightmare if it was them actually making and competing in cosplays? Of course they're going to go in the driection of original costumes. It's still cosplay.
>>
>>9359531
Show idea: Cosplayers just get into no-holds-barred fistfights, points are awarded for quality of cosplay, how well the cosplay holds up, how easy the cosplay is to fight in, and how well a fighter can stay in-character while fighting.
>>
>>9365267
Besides, what better way to showcase their total talent, or lack of, then to make them come up with something completely new. There's no relying on character designs that have already been created and fleshed out. I'm all for giving the show a chance, especially since I liked face-off.
>>
>>9365338

I like this idea, I wish to support it
>>
>>9365267
No its costuming.
>>
>>9365471
Costume Play
>>
>>9365514
more like costume competition.
>>
>>9360298
I would literally fucking LOVE to see some cossluts on there who insist that they "totally do all their own work!" that obviously don't.

Looking at you Jnig
>>
>>9360286
She is definitely a model. She's really always been a model trying to do her own thing while drawing in fans and followings from niches that mean something to her in some way, no matter how small AND manage to bring in the numbers.
She's also incredibly personable and kind in person, and you'd be surprised how rare that is in these types of cosplay girls.
Her being THE cosplayer judge completely throws me, though. There are dozens of competent, popular costumers and prop makers in the socal community. Pretty sure they all have contacts and connections that could have pushed for this. I think she will judge as honestly and fairly as she can, but yeah it would be nice to have some actual experience up there. I guess they wanted a sexy cosplay chick but someone not completely shitty.
>>
>>9360143
If I recall correctly, Jessie said competing on shows like this is lame back when HoC was a thing.
>>
>>9365577
Eh, it's known that she gets help from friends or commissions some pieces, but it's also known that she definitely makes a lot of her own stuff. Not as craft-focused as, say, Yaya... but it's silly to pretend she doesn't make anything of her own.
>>
>>9360298
keep dreaming, this show sounds so like "American Idol" but with cosplays, that you don't even need to watch any episode, to know what's going on
>>
>>9366236
That was then, now she's just desperate for attention and wants to stay relevant
>>
Looks like the first episode is going to be Zonbi, Ebony Warrior, Vertvixen, and Fred Reed.
>>
>>9366331
does she even cosplay anymore?
>>
Bet Yaya is upset
>>
>>9372351
Only when she's a guest, and it's usually casual cosplays
>>
>>9372519
She's too busy telling everyone about her ovaries and how hard her life is and bawwww weight gain.

Last I saw she was doing a series of photos where she did her make up and put on wigs to show how she "embodied the characters she cosplayed"
>>
>>9373138
Holy shit what is wrong with you people?
>>
>>9361242
>only for people who make stuff
Not every cosplay thing needs to include people who don't make their own shit. I have no issue with people buying costumes, but I hate when people get mad that they're not included in the craftsmanship portion of the hobby. Because it's about craftsmanship. This is true of most hobbies I know, it's fine if you just enjoy the finished product but sometimes people who make their own host little things and the other crowd doesn't get upset about it like cosplayers do.
>>
>>9374953
I agree. Craftsmanship is a massive part of cosplay, and if you choose not to participate in that aspect and would rather buy, that's fine, but don't expect to be able to compete with someone who is talented enough to make it on their own.

>>9360339
Oh, I've seen some of Zonbi's youtube videos, from what I've seen I like her.
I'm glad they went with people who weren't super well known. Hopefully that means they chose contestants based on the quality of their work instead of just popularity.
>>
>>9374953
>>9375134
Problem is, the costumes and props produced in this show won't have a high craftsmanship level, as they're having to be rushed. Its literally going to be 'who can make the biggest costume in the fastest time'
>>
>>9375213
From what I've heard, they do have a group to help them all out. I believe they have to come up with all the ideas themselves and what to use. They do almost the 'heavy lifting', but have people to do small things like painting so they aren't wasting precious time.
>>
>>9375213
Yeah so? That does not mean that they need to include people who buy their costumes.
>>
>>9375213
Do we know the timeframe they're giving them? I know for Face-Off's larger projects, some of them spanned over a couple of days. I would imagine they'd do something similar for this. It's definitely possible for someone skilled to turn out a quality piece if they're working on it steadily for several days straight.
>>
>>9372503
lmaoooo.
>>
They're casting now for season two, so looks like they are hopeful this will be a hit

Rewatched the trailer:
In round 1 they have 8 hours to create an accessory.
If they make it to the main event, they have 2 days to complete it.

So, yeah, they'll certainly be working fast, but that's how all these competition shows go. From the preview pictures it looks like they came up with some nice stuff.

Body issues aside, she just wants to yell at people for the sake of yelling. Purposefully calling out anyone to come in and have a fight with strangers on facebook and twitter over politics and whatever else as a way to constantly validate herself and make a fake showing about what a "great person" she is. How do you get this "acting career" with not only a horrid voice, but also being a shitty person?

>"embodied the characters she cosplayed"
More like embalmed, it's like putting a wig on a corpse.

>>9380757
Lisa Lou Who
>>9380763

>>9380764
Vertvixen or probably Jackie

my guesses
>>
>>9380807
Yeah you guys say some chick uses an ovarian illness to get attention and said chick is the shitty person, sounds about right.
>>
>>9380807
Legit I watched her attack a girl on facebook for pointing out that Tuxedo Mask wasn't raping Sailor Moon in Crystal when he kissed her after she'd fallen asleep. She had to be fuming when the girl turned it around on her claims that no one came near her without consent with "I'm sure you have all the consent contracts waiting then." Or something like it. been some time.
>>
>>9360272
I hope she loses, Marty may be the most annoying person on the planet
>>
>>9381610
As long as that's not being used as an excuse to be a bitch. With her, it's the opposite and needs to fucking stop
>>
>>9381647
What?! She didn't like some scene in sailor moon?! And she bitched about it on Facebook with someone who disagreed? That whore! Now all the crap about her using a crippling and painful illness for attention/to be mean/to get special treatment/to cut in lines/to take candy from babies/to tie up defenseless women to railroad tracks/to be elected mayor of bullshit mountain totally makes sense! Thank god you guys are here to take this monster down before she can do any more damage.

the third one is too skinny to be Jackie, it's probably VertVixen, or maybe Caitlyn Cullpepper. She's apparently on the show, I know she did a couple of costumes for Michele Morrow and some stupid WoW video for Blizzcon

I've been rewatching the series to motivate myself not to procrastinate on cosplays, so brace yourself for the full explanation.
>show was advertised as being about cosplay but first season was more about backstage drama
>half the drama was faked and the other half was stupid people not watching what they said in front of a camera
>show was about "Heroes" of cosplay but featured 2 truly skilled people, neither of which were likeable, and a group of unlikeable, mediocre, fameseeking nobodies
>show was originally proposed as "Yaya's world" and the show featured her and her ~brand~ even when she wasn't even going to the same convention as the actual contestants
>every dinky little con they tried to sandbag was bragged about as being the Kentucky Derby of cons, e.g., "Emerald City Comic Con is an important stop on the convention circuit" no it fucking isn't
>the people featured on the show hardly ever won
>producers only notified people about the conventions 2 weeks in advance to force the drama of finishing things last-minute
>production and filming crew were a huge burden to conventions, with staging and filming space, hotel rooms for all the contestants and crew. They even restarted one masq and made the hosts do the introduction over because they didn't like the original take
>shots of people walking into cons staged, there would be a crowd of photographers ready to take their photo
>pre-recorded audience cheering when you could clearly see that hardly anyone was reacting to the guests/costumes
>second season, it had been so long since anyone won that an award was actually drafted and forced into the masq just so someone on HoC could win
>cosplay was ultimately shown to normie audience as obnoxious fameseeking; almost everyone talked about winning awards and getting more followers and virtually nothing else
This picture of Beckii being a slutty Samus pretty much sums it up. Please let me know, fellow HoC viewers, if I've left anything out.
>>
Syfy's on a field. And below the lovely grass is gold. And in fact, they find out that the gold is actually swimming in oil.

But they just. Can't. GET. IT.

There has to be some marketable way to show case Cosplay and make money off it, but they just can't figure out HOW/WHAT.

So good luck with this. Maybe if they have more seasons, they'll have actual companies sponsor something, so they can use their licenses for non-original cosplay ideas. Would be cool if Bandi was one and they could make the coolest biggest most bad ass Gundam copy or something.

>>9361064
>>9361168
>>9361181
For how much shit people talk about Jessica, she's the smartest of the "cosplay celebrity" crew. She knows better than to go on anything resembling a reality show where her words could be edited by anyone besides her. Look at the backlash that happened to Yaya when she talked smack about people and looked down her nose at ~cosplay peasants~ and talked about her brand. She got some cheap exposure, but some long time fans saw the real her and didn't like what they saw. Nigri used to talk a little shit but has dropped it for the most part because unlike real celebrity reality TV, infamy doesn't get you anywhere good in the cosplay world.
>>9365338
I want this.

As for the OC, I think that might be a safer bet than predetermined characters. You have more flexibility in the materials/textures, etc. And I remember part of the problem with HoC was people pulling out an old or partially finished costume and pretending that they were just-then starting it so they had a leg up on the competition. Information might still be leaked but it definitely lessens the chances of that happening again.
>>
>>9386182
So Holly Conrad's husband, Ross, mentioned that the reason he was barely in it was because he refused to cooperate. There were times when they would tell him "Okay, Ross, here we want you to talk about the other contestants with Holly" He'd verbally agree, but the second they started recording, he'd start playing on his DS.
So it's kind of eye opening how much of the drama was forced and manufactured.
I remember they made Holly look like a bitch, but from what I know, she's a pretty sweet girl
>>
>>9386193
Thanks for reminding me of one point that I missed.
>>9386182
>'heroes' didn't even work on their own costumes and enlisted their boyfriends/husbands/dads/friendzoned roommate slaves to do prop work for them
Also this
>take a shot every time Chloe Dykstra mentions that her dad made lightsabers for the Star Wars movies
>>
Its sad that this girl is on the show and is representing the cosplay community. Way to go Syfy you sure know how to pick them.
>>
>>9386345
I mean, if CGL is anything to go by, that actually is a pretty good representation of what cosplayers have become. Bitching about women dressing too skimpy, barely repressed hatred to mask crippling insecurity, petty bitching and a pretty obvious room temperature IQ. It works.
>>
Who else is on the show? I heard each episode has 4 different people so I'm wondering who else Syfy got.
>>
>>9386345
> bothered by people whoring themselves for money
> not bothered by Nigri

come on. I dislike that shit too, but you don't get to cherrypick.
>>
>>9386345
it's hilarious because she also wrote a huge long post about how she was going somewhere for her birthday and she wanted people to send her birthday gifts to her PO Box. And her talking about boobs feels hypocritical, since that's all she does anymore is show off her tits like Nigri and craft shitty costumes.
>>
>>9386554
To be honest though you can have a right to verrypick. Most of the girls right now who try to get noticed throw on a bikini and call it cosplay after also putting on the wig to be a character. At least Jessica, help or not to make her costumes, actually has a costume that is usually well crafted. The only times I have seen her do bikini shots and stuff lately is when it is a part of a set that already involves a fully functional outfit or its Sonico who basically does have these canon bikini outfits. Jessica makes a living out of this, she is already noticed, she does have good skill that she has developed over time and regardless if someone else makes her cosplay, thats not the argument I am trying to make. She actually has substance, but then you take someone like fucking Danielle who has a bikini Rengar, bikini Riven. Anything as long as she has a wig she calls it cosplay. Then you have grotesque monsters like EnvyUs Cosplay who can't make anything worht shit and sells her nudes as Patreon tiers and only photoshops her shit to hell and back in order to sell the half naked fat slob images she has.

There is a huge difference in what OP is saying vs Nigri. You don't have to agree, but the people wanting to 'break out' and 'be noticed' right now are seriously stooping to such a shit low iits become the fucking norm or newbies and vets alike. At least Jessica started as a booth babe and is legit in why she got popular. But to see SO many people doing it because they see it gets you attention? For fucks sake. Camgirl type behavior and cosplay need to fucking be separated. Then you have huge whores like Moomoo who is inbetween, but still far from being anything close to Yaya, Danielle, or Nigri just because she does these implied sex photoshoots. Barf.
>>

I think she's mainly referring to Nigri's ability to actually craft nice costumes. I know there's a meme going around that she doesn't make any of her stuff, but she has time lapse videos on her YouTube showing her making her own shit from start to finish. Hell, Nigri just uploaded a video of the making of Sindragosa and the level of craftsmanship she was able to achieve is pretty impressive.

I think the post was mainly complaining about cosplayers who don't spend time making complex costumes; the ones who just throw on lingerie and call it a day. Which, to be fair, Nigri has been guilty of in the past. The difference being that Nigri also makes nice costumes in addition to the lingerie stuff.
>>
>>9386909
>the ones who just throw on lingerie and call it a day.
someone has to feed the thirsty ones. majority of normies just go to cons to get a free show of that.
>>
>>9386976
Thats what she is complaining about and she isn't wrong.
>>
>>9386899
jessica started as sexy pikachu
she went from 0-60 thanks to that
>>
>>9386193
I thought there was that thing where Crabcat Industries jipped that cancer survivor out of a bunch of money that was fundraised for her or something? She was the face actor for a Mass Effect character I think and after paying Crabcat, they ended up taking the money and the chick had to make the cosplay herself or something like that.
>>
>>9387138
I dont think you read anything I typed. It wasn't until Lolipop Chainsaw did she really get recognition. Its like looking back at Yaya's first things and pinpointing where she really blew up vs her old cosplays from high school. Pikachu might've been Jessica's first thing, but it isn't what got her popular. Being hired as the face of Juliet is what launched her.
>>
>>9386182
You left out that production didn't pay the heroes a penny towards their material costs, or their crafting time. Their travel and hotels and con tickets were paid for, but they had to fund their costumes all by themselves. Also that when Nigri refused to be on the show, production deliberately gave Monika a bad cut and tried to force drama to make people not like her, as punishment for continuing to be friends with Nigri.
>>
>>9387157
Sorry, not that anon, but you're wrong. She basically got known - and hired as a face character - because of her dumb sexy pikachu cosplay. That cosplay launched her career and a thousand copycats. You're probably just too young to remember how popular she got just from that.
>>
>>9387576
Anon, I guarantee I'm older than you. She won the IGN contest to become Juliet. That pikachu cosplay had nothing at all to do with it. Jesus, anon. The whole reason that pikachu thing was even brought up so much in the community was after she was cast.
>>
>>9387873
She may have had the actual photo go viral, but not outside of the actual community. She was hired as character booth babes, but not because of pikachu. Moreso because she beat out people in auditions which honestly I can understand. She has a plain, neutral face without makeup which makes it easy for companies to want to use her as a model. Not only that, but her body is rocking even with fake tits [which many gaming companies have that whole inflated non-real tits thing going for most of their female characters anyway].

While pikachu mightve been viral, it is not the actual cause of her huge success she has now. The IGN contest with Lolipop Chainsaw and then other hired works after that in which she was able to go to convention to convention for free due to these companies all paying her to show up as their characters, is what really set her career off.

So in a way I have to agree and disagree. The pikachu is significant enough where a small portion of people cared about it for a few months, but its not the start of her career, but it is a footstool to tell potential employers about your viralability which makes it easier to want to hire you.

>>
>>9388311
Thats my point. Its not what got her famous, its the blowup from the IGN contest when Lollipop found their face character. She was known when she was pikachu, but she didn't get popular from that. The Juliet Starling cosplay and booth babe status she had from that when touring conventions and promoting through photoshoots and videos for the game is what set her into the spotlight. You can post anyone you want in a Cracked article, but they can still be unknown except to a small few people who obsess over those kinds of lists, but touring with a big brand and having them use you as their promotional material all over the place like the internet, magazines, and YouTube is what made her name.
>>
>>9388301
And how old are YOU? Since you're the one who brought up age first.
>>
>>9387876
She won the Lollipop Chainsaw contest due to vote spamming, since everyone was able to vote once a day, and she had the highest number of followers and kept reminding everyone to vote. There were better cosplayers that looked more like Juliet, but she won as she had the most followers.
>>
>>9387552
Why should they? All those costumes were completed before the fucking show even started production.
>>
>>9388330
Jessica had a large following before even she was Juliet Starling. It was nothing like it is now, but it was still a large following thanks to her Myspace and Reddit presence. Yes, Myspace, it was that long ago!
>>
>>9387873
>>9387876
Why are you so obsessed with saying her pikachu wasn't what made her? It was. There were threads on cgl during the IGN contest about Jnigs vote spamming, and how the other girls had better costumes and looked more accurate. But she won because she was famous as 'sexy pikachu'. Check the archives. There was a big debate cause of her tan skin and hag face not matching actual Juliette's pale skin and baby face. She won even though she was less accurate because of her popularity. Yes her stint as Lollipop Chainsaw gained her industry recognition and get hired for more jobs, but Sexy Pikachu was already famous with cosplayers and normies alike before then.

>>
>>9388475
27. I feel like the good days of cosplay are far passed. Also its really putting it into perspective the age demographic that actually uses cgl at this point. I guess its to be expected. The bigger and more important question is "how long have you been trapped here on 4chan?" More than ten years. Get out while you can
>>
>>9388503
Honestly, I miss Cats on Mars. Because of the anonymity on 4chan, it's impossible to hold people accountable for acting like creepy little shitstains.

Yeah, it's amazing what people say when they're anonymous. The poison starts when it becomes an echo chamber. In a normal situation, you say you dislike someone because they have breast implants and look slutty, everyone is going to call you a retard. Anonymously, however, you can say whatever you want without fear of repercussion, and people who know its bullshit but want to feel justified in being petty jump in to agree. The first shithead, on seeing other people agreeing with their shitheaded shit, thus begins to believe that their shitheaded opinions aren't so shitheaded after all because certainly a bunch of strangers on the internet can't all be shitheads, so clearly they were never petty shitheads at all, but true enlightened individuals being oppressed by the booby mafia.

And so, in the past 14 years, cosplay has developed this remarkably toxic enviroment where any cosplayer who finds a shred of success is somekind of nerd traitor, a whore, a jerk, literally hitler, whatever. Be it cats on Mars or cosplayfucks, your account could be linked to you and thus you could be held accountable for what you said.
>>
>>9388532
I do believe /cgl/, or at least the anonymous imageboard format, still has a place and is useful. I like how you can just jump in, jump out, when needed on a board. Honestly /cgl/ is a fairly small part of the internet that a lot of people have never heard of or never visit. Most of my cosplay/con friends know about it but don't go here. Of the ones I do know go here I don't actually tell them I go here.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it. The only gripe I have is Leeanna Vamp as a judge, but I am glad that they called her a cosplay MODEL, not a cosplayer. But I still would have preferred for them to have a judge with actual skills. I think all the competitors did really well, I was really impressed with Zonbi and Ebony Warrior's builds.

Next week's theme is Game of Thrones.
>>
It was pretty alright. No drama whatsoever, good job Syfy. I'd like the judges to be more critical though, it seems like most of it was just going "Your cosplay looks amazing! Wow!" instead of getting into the nitty gritty like they do on Faceoff (so sad Adam went home this week btw, he's more skilled than Ben and Evan combined).

I've been watching Zonbi too and I love her energy. She always comes across like she's having such a great tune and I've been learning a lot from her foam and paint work.
>>
I have a feeling they let them do some of the work before taping (I've talked to people who have been on similar reality shows, and besides them being rigged, 80% of the work is done before they're even on location). I wish they would have had to do the makeup and wigs and prosthetics too because that's part of cosplay too. But I was happy that they portrayed the hobby in a better light, even if it was a little too gushy-feel-good perspective.

They wouldn't be interested. Nobody in therpf cares who yayahan or jnig is or how skimpy someone's costume is. What is there left for someone from CGL to talk about?
>>
>>9412811
Probably yes for two reasons

1. Armor costumes are more interesting to normies
and
2. It's a lot harder to sew something visually impressive in less than two days time
>>
>>9412484
Also heard this, but haven't seen any proof except some screencaps of a bunch of people wondering the same thing.

Anyone watch the episode last night? I missed it but checked out the stills and wasn't impressed by any of the builds except GBGH's. So i'm glad she won.
>>
>>9413805
Yeah it wasn't as good as last week. Wtf was that elf thing? Didn't fit in the universe at all.
>>
>>9413805
I liked the whitewalker's breastplate detail a lot; GBGH did a great job but it was visually hard to look at.

I'm getting really annoyed that they don't also mention the cosplayer's online name. All other reality shows mentioned where they work or what they go by, so this is weird.

Let's take her most recent cosplay that I'm familiar with: Sindragosa. What's wrong with it close-up? Foam is well-cut with seams not visible, worbla is shaped well, paint job is good... I don't think there's any glaring issues with it, even close-up?

>Inb4 I'm called a white knight for not agreeing with the hivemind
>>
>>9419660
I agree with you anon. For the most part her craftsmanship is above average. The designs are always built on top of the classic tit armor design, but they're well made. I don't like what she has come to represent, but I won't disagree that she knows her way around worbla.
Sage for beating this dead horse.
>>
>>9419660
CGL just has the most bizarre obsession with her. She's a regular cosplayer- her armour's on par with everyone else's as are her costumes. There's nothing remarkable about her to illicit this kind of hate on. At least with YayaHan you can chalk it up to jealousy over her having successfully made cosplay into a business before anyone else in the west, but I've never even heard anyone mention Jnig outside of CGL.

They mention her in every thread, bitch about her every thread. If she sneezes there'll be a post on CGL about how that sneeze is detrimental to cosplay.

She does skimpy costumes, nobody cares other than the mouth breathers who are upset she'll never fondle their pokeballs or fat chicks who think cosplay should be some kind of safe space for girls who have a panic attack every time they see a pair of tits.
>>
>>9419898
(Also sage for beating this dead horse. Can we just make mentioning Jnig a bannable offense?)
>>
>>9414958
Shit that was Jinglebooboo? I could hardly recognise her!
>>
>>9419660
Have you looked at the other armor she created for the same con? Her Reinhardt was pretty awful. sealing worbla with some kind of primer to smooth it before painting I think is a minor thing, but you could see the worbla texture on her armor still.
