Mostly got stuff for my nieces (the Jibanyan plush and the Asuna figure, so I didn't get much for myself.

But it was still a fun con regardless, and yes, that's a Bill Cipher daki, all the Love Live dakis they have at the dealers room were cancer and Nozomi was taken already, so I pretty much went "fuck it" at that point

Also, where the ribbonfags at?
>>
>>9336673
It was my first year
Better than the shitty Vegas cons,
but it's also not something i'd probably pay to go to again.

Didn't do panels. Live events were really lacking. I usually enjoy cons musical guests, and it was really meh.

As for parties, we legit got really hyped to go to one of the parties, and by the time we walked in, the music that was playing was undancable and there were like a total of 3 people in the room. Needless to say, didn't party.

Also, the masquerade needs to fire their sound crew. During their "half time" that we left through because it took ages, we had to deal with the earbleeding volume.

Weather was good, met some good people.

First year I managed to get a floor length chain. This doesn't include ones I donated to the ribbon station or gave to my s/o to finish his set. He has fun giving away his ribbon.

I have ideas for ones I'd like to make for next year.

I saw some prints I really liked in the AA and one of the tables gave me a free book.

The hall they use for main events has horrificly tinny speakers that make everything sound like that. The only way to fix it is to not use the fixtured speakers and bring in some from outside like they do for other rooms.

They'd have to be especially large ones considering the space but maybe they'll spring for it if enough people complain.

I wanna know if these young minded fools have grown the fuck up. Kenneth Juarez should be about 30 years old by now. When I met him he was 24 or so and he dated 2 under age girls. One of 14 years of age and another of 16 years old.

Jebron is a skinny black guy 5 feet tall whose probably in his 40's by now who always used to cosplay as Luffy from Wan Piss. He was known for drama, got his ass beat and almost shot because of his own drama. He never reveals his real name but because of unknown resources I obtained a lot of information on him.

you just mean feedback for
the parties and stuff?
>>
>>9338677

Is ALA really actually trying to go the "family friendly" route as time goes on? This is the major concern I have with how it feels like the con wants the culture to change, even though there are already plenty of "family friendly" cons and that's not why we attend ALA.
>>
>>9338702
ALA has been trying to offer some more adult content in the after hours but there is still going to be an attitude that it's available for all ages. We're less so "pushing" the idea that ALA is labeled a family friendly convention but I'd also ask if you feel that the reason you attend ALA is for the partying and nightlife that takes place in the hotel vs the content that the convention provides.

if it's the former, we really can't step in to control what people choose to do in their rooms/hotels. We can only control convention regulated content and set aside safety nets and other circumstances for things that truly end up being out of our hands.

If it's the latter, ALA has opened itself to allowing 18+ content for older fans/attendees. We know that it's something requested and it so far has not caused MAJOR concerns in any regards. We label and mark said panels/events accordingly and have essentially a time frame where such programming can only exist.

tl;dr - Con's gonna be for everyone young and old. What attendees choose to do with their own time outside of convention activities isn't something we can effectively step into.

I hope that makes sense.
>>
>>9338735
Is there anything that can be done during the daytime family friendly hours to cut down on the skimpy cosplays and noticeable drunks? Like let those people come out around 6 or 9pm?
>>
>>9338736
Our cosplay/costume policy is if you can wear it to the beach you can wear it to ALA. There have definitely been some questionable things in the past and we address them as best we can. For people who are noticeably drunk, please report them to con ops, noted by the yellow vests, or report them to a nearby staffer who can follow up the chain of command/protocol.
>>
I didn't go to ALA, just saw the last few replies. I have to commend your con staff on actively seeking feedback, even from a den of scum and salt such as this.
>>
>>9338770
Like I said. I've gotten some real good strong feedback in the past, it definitely doesn't hurt~
>>
>>9338448
It seemed like a lot of panels, especially in the Radisson, had sound/tech issues. The concert Friday night did as well. Getting that more straightened out with the volunteers if that's possible would be good.
>>
>>9338770
There's so many people from cgl over the years at ala it isn't even funny
>>
>>9338879
A lot of old tripfags are from the area. Even though most don't trip or post anymore, they still go to the con. You have some that come from out of state because they have friends in the area do it's a part and socializing con for them.

Also you have ones that are staffers, volunteers, or former staff/volunteers.

Was there some sort of lolita programming I didn't hear about? There were so many cute lolitas at the con. I know SoCal's comms are pretty active. It'd be nice to have some lolita programming, although I'd understand if that was under the jurisdiction of the comms and not necessarily the con.

There was nothing organized by ALA for lolita. There is the Fashion show but I'm not versed well in what content clothing wise that will showcase. If peeps are interested in Lolita events or content, suggestions or panel submissions are the best answer!

If you got photos taken at the photo booths at the con in that room, where can you get them?

From what I could tell. It was mostly just girls wanting to wear lolita. I threw together a quick sailor coord for Sunday since I hadn't had a chance to wear the dress yet. I lost my hat though after the con. Thankfully it was just a cheap white boater hat from daiso.

Can we have more events dealing with ALA's theme next year? Panels, games, the usual business. Being labeled the "Pirate" theme this year and doing almost nothing that had to do with pirates was a bit disappointing. If we're gonna do "Sports" next year, could we get more areas for cosplay sports? Maybe some short-game cosplay soccer or athletic events?

Pokémon gathering was fun or rather the Sun and Moon with Skull gathering. Lotta people gave away Sun and Moon ribbons there.

That's definitely something to consider. We have some athletic access inside the radisson with the Racket Ball courts and the Tennis courts outside.

I had some plans for events in regards to the theme but sadly it wasn't able to come to fruition. I'll take note and see if we can stir the pot on pushing the theme more.

It was one thing to manage at the 4000 attendee level (and still struggling). at 8000+ it become a much tougher logistical issue. Also much to do with contracts/business/etc. It was just not feasible anymore, so we put that money towards expanding the cafe and trying to make room.
>>
>>9339111
Hey Maguma, this is probably above your position, but what is the official attendance for 2017?

We don't have the numbers officially out yet but once we do I can definitely share. I was told by an attendee he saw a badge that was in the 12,000. I dunno the validity to that statement, but that'd be crazy!

>>9339280
I don't believe it's ever come up but if people were interested in that sort of thing, that'd be something to consider. Something like that would probably require a bit more interest from other attendees before it would be something heavily debated on.

>The panels sucked this year besides a select few.

Also would be a good idea to say what panels you did enjoy. I thought the variety was pretty good and much more interesting than your typical 101 panels
>>
>>9339409
>>9339442
I'm not >>9339409 , but Richard Niel and A to J Connections both had solid programming throughout. Victor Frost, Love and Justice, and Mochi Maid Cafe were also pretty good although I admittedly did not catch much of their respective panels.

This was also the first time I managed to catch the Cosplay Wrestling Federation but it was a riot. Erica Lindbeck's thing where she read creepypasta was a nice surprise, I would certainly go to both again.

I generally didn't go to events in the main stage room since the speakers are so tinny. They're acceptable for speeches and conferences but terrible for anything involving music. The AMVs and Masquerade especially suffered because of this.

The Aria panel was gr8. Having panels hosted by people that know what they're talking about is awesome. (Re: teachers or professionals or smart people idk)
>>
>>9339584
>>9339442
I went to con stories on day zero. It was kinda awful. One of the hosts was super drunk and slurring his words, all of his stories went on way too long and were not interesting or funny. When they invited people up to tell their stories they talked over them and didn't listen. I get that it was a casual 18+ panel, but oh my god it was both boring and annoying. The host swinging his flask around and proclaiming to be a drunk not an alcoholic several times was a lovely touch...

Also, I thought the overall treatment of Hiroaki Inoue's Tenchi Muyo panel was crappy. He was placed next to the dance which was extremely loud, there is only so much to do about that admittedly, but then when he went to play a special viewing of the new show, specifically for showing off the fact that they got a bunch of the same voice actors, the sound didn't work! Then the people in the back, in the middle of his panel, started adjusting the lights and sound testing for the next panel WHILE HE WAS TALKING. I would not be surprised if he had no interest in ever coming back. He seemed pretty upset imo.

Does ALA share its attendee ban list with other cons staff?

Would ALA be interested in having a shared list of banned attendees from the other cons?
>>
>>9339202
If you follow the Anime LA Facebook group, I recall her putting up her lineup there with her Rocky cosplays. I'm sort of relieved that I didn't run into her.

I really had no complaints with the overall convention except that the tech rehearsals from masquerades were extremely behind than other years, and not really due to sound problems, but because certain contestant groups did spend more time figuring our their skits and lighting at that moment as opposed to jotting down notes and being a little more prepared beforehand. It bumped everything to an hour that by the time I went up to rehearse our skit, we had a certain prop and would have liked a fair chance to run through it. We've rehearsed prior, but getting to be on stage for a dry run is helpful.

I really appreciate the masq staff all the time, but I feel like they should enforce the a limit to how long they can do tech rehearsal per 1 group. Like, no more than ten minutes or something, and if they're that unprepared, they should wait until the end of everyone's turns and then see if they can add more stuff to their skit. I know people can forget to be considerate that other people are in line, so I feel like it'd be under the tech to tell them that they have to be okay with what they have if they've come unprepared.
>>
>>9340601
Another benefit is that the rooms can be open super late as the Raddison doesn't close like the con center
>>
>>9339968
>sound issues
I was at Epcar's panel - same thing happened there, took the tech guys a minute to actually get us the ever-crucial sound for those legendary bloopers
>>
>>9340678
I 100% agree with you about the tech rehearsals... I dunno if you attended the wrap up meeting on sunday but it was addressed. Tech rehearsals really should just be to make sure you have the lights you need, the audio sounds right, and to go through the skit once if needed and that's it. Too many groups were green with this idea sadly and took advantage.
>>
>>9340382
I didn't get to stop into the gaming room this year so I can't address the pachinko offhand. Glad to hear it picked up though~
>>
>>9340382
Pachinko are handled by the family who had a child last year. They are welcomed to return when they want to. Unsure the exact reason why no pachinko this year, but that was from the last I heard.

Last year was the first year so didn't expect much attendees to find gaming or even karaoke which were outside from the convention center. This year was more than expected especially for Saturday.

Whisky will always be remembered. I believe it'll be officially be renamed to Warren e-gaming.

>>
>>9340962
I'm glad to hear that it was mentioned. They put on a good show yearly, and it was more apparent this year than ever that a number of groups, whether they were new to masq or not, took advantage of it. The staff's really nice at trying to handle things, so I hope that they can go forward and be able to have a great show without people taking over too much like that.

3+ hours of waiting for tech and judging combined, only to not have a chance to do a run through at all and then have the costume seen for 2 minutes in the green room was a little disappointing. It sounds like things might be better next year though!

This was my first year at the convention center. It feels like a mini-AX, which is pretty cool in its own right. The overall experience is pretty solid. There's con stuff to do if you want it, the food truck area is awesome for just hanging out and socializing, and you get party stuff at the individual hotels.

That being said, I do feel like it's lost the intimacy that I liked about ALA. It feels like a proper con, not a hangout con, and while you can find the hangouts if you look, it's not as embedded into the overall con experience. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different.

Age-wise it's pretty mixed. I felt like the overall age was actually on the older side, especially in the outside areas. The dealer's hall/AA felt young, but not to the point where I felt like the oldest person in the room constantly.
>>
>>9344069
ALA is definitely a large convention now, and people need to adjust expectations accordingly. Those who do will have fun, those who don't get left behind.
