> Do you wear the fashion, or just an admirer?
I wear the fashion, just not as often as I'd like. Hoping to wear it more during Spring semester!

> Traditional or modern, seifuku or blazer?
Modern. I don't wear blazers much but to me seifuku is more costume-y so I guess blazer?

> Non-Asian brands you like
I don't have any at the moment but I did snag some stuff recently from Walmart like plaid scarves that look like traditional nanchatte ones and some 2-n-1 sweater+collared shirt tops for casual nanchatte (looks exactly like pic related).

I'm hoping for a nice Bodyline lucky pack or even a sale on their skirts. I love how heavy the fabric is and the hidden pocket is great for my mobile.

> Do you wear the fashion, or just an admirer?
Wear it, but not daily. I like that my university is so chill about clothing.
> Traditional or modern, seifuku or blazer?
Modern, but sometimes old school OPs/jumpers get me aesthetically. Blazer > Seifuku unless it's a con.
> Non-Asian brands you like
Only one that I'm fond of right now is Ralph Lauren US Polo since they carry really nice fake blouse+cardigan looks.

None sadly, wanted to order something from Aliexpress during 11.11 but forgot about it. Now I'm considering getting a bag:

If you're okay with ordering from Taobao, I suggest getting one there. The search-term "日本 小学生 书包" brings up a ton of randoserus, some of them starting at 100 yuan (15 dollars). My girlfriend bought a pink one from Taobao years ago for about 300 yuan (45 dollars), and the quality has been really good.

Little of both, I just completed my second outfit, but since its cold now, I dont think I'll have a chance to wear it out of the house

> Traditional or modern, seifuku or blazer?
Modern, and I guess I'd say blazer, a seifuku by itself feels more like costume-ish like the other anon mentioned

> Non-Asian brands you like
No idea, I'm pretty new to wearing the fashion.

I've been lurking on these threads for a while, admiring from afar, but I was recently told that I'd look cute in nanchette, and I rather wear it whilst I was in uni. I know I would like to a more sporty style, think hoodies, trainers, and sporty more than preppy.

My question is, where do I start? Do I start with a colour scheme, or just go with pieces I like and go from there? I feel like I would be safer starting off with a plain skirt and hoodie, but I also want to wear some colour as well, preferably pink. Any help you can provide would be gratefully welcomed!
>>
>>9283319
>more sporty than preppy
I'm doing the same thing anon, don't worry about it!
If you're just trying it out for now, go with pieces you like. No sense in spending the money if you're not sure if it's your thing or not yet.
>>
>>9283319
You can get two basic pieces, a pleated skirt and a blouse to start with. I recommend a navy blue skirt since they are classic and versatile with colors. If you already know you want to do light pink coords though, a grey one might be better.

I'm skeptical about Bodyline quality but a lot of anons here like it. In any case, if you're just dipping your toes, I think it's fine to get these two basics there. It's important to start with pieces that are styled for a uniform (rather than piecing together things from your closet, which were designed as streetwear).

This is really all you need for a sporty style since you can bring your own hoodie, trainers, and to some extent socks (make sure they look uniform-like). Some girls wear a blazer over the hoodie to pull the look together, but I don't think it's necessary.

What kind of bag do you plan to pair with your seifuku?
>>
Challenge... school bags with cute charms!

My new school bag comes with what I'm assuming is a specific ring for charms... and it also has this odd hole in the back near the top. I guess it's for headphone wires to poke out of? Does anyone know?
>>
>>9283641
Thank you so much for your help! I was considering one of those pink plaid bodyline skirts, but a grey one does sound more versatile! I may try and find a blazer as well, I quite like that look!

I've not thought about bags yet, I know it's essential but I honestly don't like the way those bags look and I'd rather not buy one if I don't carry on wearing nanchette properly. I may just buy a backpack instead?

Sounds like you and I have the same bag! I'm waiting for spring semester to start before I start using mine (one day of classes left!) but I'm so excited.

Is the hole got a heavy rubber-ish cover to it with a + shape cut in it? If so, that's for your headphones. You're supposed to tuck your phone into the pocket inside and thread the metal end of your headphones through the hole and connect to your phone. I haven't tried it yet but it's supposed to be less hassle than holding your phone if you're not wearing a jacket/sweater that has a pocket.

Which bag did you get? I ended up with pic related. It's not my photo, just one I grabbed because I have the same style/color.
>>
>>9284024
Different anon but you can totally get a backpack.
>>
>>9284069
Not the anon who you were replying to, but I have the same bag! I've been wanting to put more charms on mine as well, blurry pic related
>>
>>9284024
Bodyline quality is not bad. But you do have to stay away from costume sets. Their sturdier skirts come with a hook closure that is adjustable, and a pocket. Make sure you order the standalone longer skirts, and not the sets that come with a shirt and tie. Pretty sure the latter are basically costumes and bad quality.

A backpack is fine as a bag. I only use the blue school bag if I'm going out. I never actually used it for school. Textbooks and laptop were too heavy otherwise (and the blue bags don't hold nearly as much either).

To answer >>9283319 you could start with a plain skirt but bring in colour from your outwear and accessories (like a cardi or hoodie and tie or bow). Aside from the pleated skirt, dress shirt and maybe kneesocks if you don't already own some and want them, the rest is easy to find and you might already have in your wardrobe. I think a navy or black skirt is nice to start to pair with colourful hoodies and easier than the reverse (pink skirt and dark hoodies) but you could do that too.

I personally don't have a particular colour scheme but the colours tend to be neutral and work well with each other. Blank, grey, navy, and wine basically make up my wardrobe and are easy to combine amongst each other.

It's surprisingly okay if you wear very warm boots (like the ugg type) and you're walking a short distance outside with no wind. Once there is wind, you will have so many regrets. But if it's 34 degrees out, no wind, and you're otherwise really bundled up, you stay pretty warm if you walk constantly.

It also seems like more of a city thing, where girls will be ducking in and out of shops and public transportation, and don't have a long way to walk to get to everything.
>>
I'm looking to get into nanchatte, but I don't know where to start, and affordably too. I like the blazer looks. I have a few bowties which I guess I could incorporate into it somehow. Could somebody point me in the right direction, particularly for shoes and skirts?
>>
>>9293042
With nanchatte you can get away using all sorts of offbrand stuff, but personally I think blazers and skirts are best purchased from a place that had nanchatte in mind.

Right off the bat I'll suggest Yahoo Japan if you don't mind secondhand stuff. You can get specific brands like conomi there etc.
You can also get cute things on taobao. Ebay and aliexpress to a lesser degree as well, but I'll warn you about potential low quality. If something is cheap and looks amazing in the stock photo it might just be too good to be true. Use common sense.

Bodyline has decent skirts, just don't get the costume sets. They have okay loafers too, but imo they won't hold up for everyday wear.

Your best bet for shoes would be to just go to a normie store and find something that is comfortable and will last. Loafers, mary janes, running shoes/converse are all okay depending on what flavour of nanchatte you like best.

Since nanchatte looks best with boxy blazers rather than fitted ones, your best bet might be taobao/Japanese brands, but I did get lucky with a thrift store find once.

Of course, thrift stores will have pleated skirts, vests, dress shirts/blouses and that kinda stuff as well.

As with anything else, just make sure the items are good quality The material shouldn't feel cheap: thin, or rough, or wrinkle horribly (or all three). and everything should fit you nicely; it's not a nice look to squeeze into stuff that's too tight or too short.
>>
>>9293102
I don't mind second hand at all. I just got a skirt and some shirts from eBay, and a bowtie that'd better suit the color combination I'm going for (beige and black). Going thrift shopping tomorrow.

Do you need an escrow service for Yahoo Japan?

i'd love to get my hands on some seifuku. the cardigan/blazer style doesn't appeal to me as much. i've heard of brands like conomi, but those are very expensive especially as we have to use a proxy

what's the cheapest/easiest way to get seifuku in the west? mostly all i can find are cheap costumes. i came across this site: passing-fancy.com. they claim that it is legitimate school uniforms. what do you guys think?

If by escrow you mean shopping service, yes you do.
>>
>>9293320
Not sure about that website but as long as you're not a landwhale you can get pretty cheap uniforms from Bodyline
>>
>>9293449
would you say that the uniforms there are pretty costume-y?
>>
Has anyone ordered from https://zhuzhusl.world.taobao.com/? How is the quality there?
>>
I've fallen in love with nanchatte but as someone who isn't japanese I'm worried how to pull off the style without looking like a huge anime weeb ;;;;
>>
>>9293744
Unless you're wearing a sailor uniform most people won't pay you much attention. You could try a more western uniform or sporty look?
>>
>>9293744
>>9294462
I love wearing nanchatte sailor uniforms. It looks weeby as fuck but it gets me less looks than lolita and definitely far less questions, so I'm used to it. You should just need to wear it with pride.

Went and read some reviews for you, overall it seems the quality is good for the price (aka, at least average quality for cheap). Reviews really point out everything looks nice more than comment on the quality itself so it's hard to say.

I'm just fell in love with this style and I'm slowly builing up my wadrobe.
But does anyone had a link to a webshop that sells blazers like >>9281822 >>9281824

Also links to some good webshops/taobao stores are welcome. Until now most of the items I've bought are from Aliexpress.
>>
>>9293661
Not that anon, but just in general for anyone wondering bodyline seifuku feels plastic-y but the one I own is okay. I don't wear it though because it's not my style.

Their separates are much better. I haven't been on the webstore in ages, but I was in the physical store and they had nice vests, blouses and bows.
>>

If you're not wearing a sailor uniform, people often interpret it as preppy or it's easy to ease into it by starting to incoporate uniform items into everyday in a "preppy" way (e.g. tights instead of knee socks, other shoes instead of mary janes or loafers, not wearing neckties). A sweater, pleated skirt, tights and oxfords looks very normie if you want to ease into the look.
>>
>>9297997
Agreed, the outfit is really not that far off from what ppl wear normally wear besides the plaid skirt. Just keep the basic parts like the skirt and shirt, and skip the tie and socks. Some ppl will still notice, but those are usually the ppl already exposed to the culture anyway.

> Do you wear the fashion, or just an admirer?
nanchatte seifuku/kogal was the first fashion that got me hooked on j-fashion in general. i did try to attempt a coord with shit that i already had a long time ago, didn't turn out like i wanted.
> Traditional or modern, seifuku or blazer?
modern, blazer. seifuku's are cute too, but weebs ruined it for me and i prefer blazers anyway.
> Non-Asian brands you like
haven't found any yet
> Recent purchases
see pic related. i'll buy better quality clothes later on since i am moving to japan in a few months.

Poorly made collage, but I'm working on getting some cheap pieces. Just cleared out my closet so I can wear daily nanchatte, just need to snag ties from Goodwill or something.

(Sorry for my boring color palette)

>looking around for decent quality sweater
>found "black queen" store on rakuten
>fall in love with just about everything on there
>realize they only have M size and all the models are 160~165 cm

I'm 172cm...... feelbadman
anyone living in japan been to the physical store? It's in Shibuya 109 I think
I wonder if they have different sizes in store but only put M online
>>
>>9305538
Probably regular socks. If you wear loose socks on their own you have to use sock glue so layering them means they slip less and look cool too.

why are nanchatte threads so dead
>>
>>9310931
Probably the time of year being impractical for it and it being that dead time between post-Christmas and the start of spring college semester. I've got some nanchatte gear in my closet I bought a month ago and still haven't worn because it's just too cold. Nanchatte to me is more late spring/early summer/general Fall.
>>
/r/ing examples of toned down nanchatte, sometimes I want to go full weeb but sometimes its not that practical so I'm looking for inspo!
>>
>>9311041
It always has peak popularity in September/October, when everyone's into back-to-school nostalgia and tartans are easy to pick up in normie stores, as well as in summer when people like to wear seifukus for cons. People who have to wear a real uniform at this time of year cover it up in a huge coat because it's freezing anyway.

Aha! I figured it out! And actually, mine's the faux leather version in brown. I love it, it's really sturdy. It came with a lot of free gifts.

But where can we get charms? Ahh...! I guess eBay. I can't wait to decorate my bag with cute things now.

(I use that little front pocket for my phone, and it's actually very convenient!)

Oh, you use the front pocket? I use the inside one because I'm super paranoid about my phone falling out.
I need to add more charms to mine as well (I have a lot on my backpack to transfer) but so far I've been pleasantly surprised that no one has looked twice at my bag. It's really brought my confidence up since I fully expected to some how be caught out as a weeb the moment I stepped onto campus with it.
>>
>>9312922
It just looks like a holdall, it's not going to trigger people's weeb senses in the same way a Japanese leather backpack would or something.

>>9311041
>>9312472
IMO nanchatte is at its best in sweater weather, since I don't like the way school shirts look alone without a sweater/cardigan/blazer and seifukus are super hard to wear without looking weeby. Might help >>9312293 - don't have pics but nanchatte looks at its most toned-down with a white/cream collared shirt underneath a sweater, worn with a pleated (possibly tartan) skirt. Ties and neckties are going to make you look weeby or overly like a schoolgirl costume to normies, OTK/UTK socks also potentially risky. Loafers also add to weebishness since they're not popular in mainstream fashion - look for a school-appropriate shoe in another style (e.g. oxford or mary jane).
