Location: Rosemont, Illinois Dates: December 16-18. Con-Alt-Delete is a little over 2 weeks away. Is anyone planning on going? Any cosplay plans or panels/events that you plan to attend?
I'm going. It'll be my first time but I know the drill. Is this as easy to ghost as Midwest is? It's too small to be so expensive imo.
>>9269799
It most likely will not be easy anymore. This years Anime Midwest had hired security everywhere to check badges. It is safe to assume that the security will be the same for this con.
>>9270305
I heard about that as well... I was wondering, what if you were at the hotel for non-convention reasons and you were stopped by security and then you get escorted out of the hotel for something you were not affiliated with? I honestly find the whole badge security to be ridiculous...
>>9269799
Not going to CAD, but Anime-zap. They raised their prices as well, even though it's smaller than CAD and Midwest and the quality has gone down.
>>9270332
Same. Last year was the most disappointing year yet. Idk if it'll get any better considering how it's barely advertised and past vendors didn't want to go back due to low sales. I just hope there is someone selling lolita/kawaii shit, even if it's overpriced taobao; if not that, then I'd be cool with that Pokemon trivia game. That was a actually pretty cool.
I'm only going because it's local, I have friends who are going, and id do panels, otherwise I could care less about the same old main events and guests.
>>9270536
Er, I meant this year's. 2016 can suck it's own balls, really.
Idk how many seagulls would go, since a lot of youngins go to Zap, but I might be up for a mini meet or something.
What is the general age group like at CAD?

This this this.
The vending area was mad disappointing. IIRC 2015 had a packed house, and 2016 there was a bunch of empty tables. Plus they still haven't gotten rid of the weird guy with bootlegs.
Basically going for the same reasons you are. Local, and I have friends coming in from out of town. That and I need something in between bigger cons.
I'm one state over, is it worth me driving 4 hours to go to? also, will there be any type of fashion show?
>>9270813
Tbqh, I'd save your money for Anime Midwest if you're into the Jfash side of CGL. They normally get Baby to come, but even when they didn't this year, the comm made an effort to put together a tea party event anyway, and Lolita collective is "local" so their stock tends to be the biggest compared to other cons they travel to. In spite of that, there doesn't seem to be a fashion show and there aren't any lolita booths in the vendor list

I mean last year there was litterally no badge security at all. My friend and I went to go christmas shopping in the dealer's hall on sunday and just walked right in badgeless.
>>9270324
I don't think I saw them escorting anyone out. But it got pretty bad to the point where they were harassing pilots and airline crew who had booked the hotel and who happened to be walking around. I think part of the whole extra security thing was to keep the exxxotica attendees out, which made no sense because many of them had rooms at the Hyatt. BTW Exxxotica was pretty chill.
I saw that they have a maid cafe- anyone been to it?
See you nerds there
>Tfw going
>Tfw no one to go with
Feels good
>>9271972
It gets worse every year, don't waste your money.
Anyone else going?
I'm gonna be headed up, rooming with a friend. What do I expect, never been before?

Free all-you-can-eat Ramen, Oatmeal, and Mountain Dew.

a medium size con. i always call it like the younger sibling of midwest- similar people come and similar events, but on a smaller scale. i like it as a way to finish up the year since it isn't crazy big or small, but a comfortable size. some good cosplays too, but i can't comment much on the jfash scene. plus as the other anon said, free food.
Weather is looking a bit dicey lads, snow storm coming in to start off the weekend and -19 on Sunday.
>>9288644
once again i thank god for the skywalk, even with its drastically changed temperatures and leaking ac units
So I see a lot of speed dating and bondage panels... Does this place have a reputation as a hookup con?
Also, it's looking like the storm is going to hold off until Fri afternoon, which makes travel so much easier.
Does anybody know anything of how the shuttle is going to be run? I've never used it before.
>>9289491
The shuttle normally runs 24 hours and usually comes and leaves at a set period. You wait in front of the Hyatt for it and it will take you to O'Hare airport where you can get off and wait/transfer to your hotel's shuttle van. Be prepared to wait though. If you are unsure about anything, just ask the driver, they're pretty helpful. It's free, but you should be nice and tip your driver.
>>9289483
I've always noticed later in the night the groups of people standing around the hotel lobby who seem to only be there to try to score. I'm unsure of their success rates though.
>1 NOTHING WRONG WITH ME
Usually not my kind of con honestly, but I'll be in attendance. Potentially down to chill with/meet anyone from on here that's going, post here and we can trade contact info if you're interested.
Guess a few people are going. Well, see you gulls there!
I'll be going all 3 days, come up and say hi! Look for McDonalds
>Tfw you get there but you're stuck in room reservation purgatory
>>9290490
Saw you. Awesome cosplay dude!
>>9291084
"""cosplay"""
We rave now
Con seemed a bit sparse tonight, but weather was crappy and it is only Friday. Tomorrow will tell.
Much easier to ghost than Midwest, but this shit is wack. There's next to no one here who isn't over the age of 16 and not a staff member.
>>9292133
Weather is shit, a friend got stuck for 40mins in snow when shuttling between hotels.
Does anyone happen to have pics? I didn't go, but I knew friends who went, yet they didn't really have anything interesting to share. I'm just curious if there were any good cosplays or coords at all.
>>9270692
Are you more on the cosplay or J-fashion side of cgl? Either way, I might be up for hanging out.
It was a pretty fun con, but really it did seem a bit smaller on Friday, which was probably due to the weather. It did get quite a bit more lively on Saturday though. All of the main events went along really smoothly and security wasn't overboard like Midwest.
I had the most bullshit roommate though. Followed me around the con and wouldn't stop being rude and impulsive. He kept interrupting panelists while they were tying to talk to try and spew his own facts about the subject being discussed. Had to endure it throughout the entire con. Made it to the end of the con and I thought it could not get any worse, but no, I take my eyes off of him for a second and the next thing I see is him (23 years old) getting damn near into fisticuffs with a 12 year old girl during a Werewolf game. WTF man, you suck!!
>>9295689
I'm a cosplayer, and I'd be down to hang out if I have some free time during the con. Femanon btw.
>>9296543
Oh ok, I'm a lolita, but I like cosplay too. Also a femanon.
Not a lot of panels really interest me except for maybe some things on Sunday, so I'll be pretty free most of the weekend. Not sure if there will be any lolita events besides the panels on Saturday and Sunday though. If the weather is good, I might be down for going to one of the restaurants or the barcade across the river, if not, I might hang around for the evening reception. Feel free to hmu with my throwaway address.
