Take it as a learning opportunity. If you don't understand why an outfit itt looks bad (and they do) you can always ask what makes it bad. Replying anons might be mean but if you can learn to see through the salt you can learn a lot. Lolita as a fashion has so many resources available for free online that it's honestly not that bad to look decent, and it's easy for experienced lolitas to get annoyed with people who keep turning up to meets looking awful. If you only want hugs and praise there are plenty of communities for that on FB, tumblr and Amino, but if you really want to learn then /cgl/ is probably the best place for that.

Hmm, so as someone who is newly interested in lolita fashion and considering it someday...it seems from this thread that there are a lot of ways to easily mess it up. And please forgive my complete lack of knowledge. From reading this thread, I'm guessing these are a couple big no-nos:

- Not including important layers like proper footwear, undergarments, blouses, etc
- Overaccessorizing while also ignoring the important layers you're missing
- Petticoats that aren't floofy enough/visible hoops jutting out underneath fabric
- Wrinkled or cheap-looking fabric
- Coords that are ill-fitting, too tight, or too loose
- Being vulgar or behaving indecently, treating it like cosplay or a costume

Is that mostly right? Also what is boobloaf? Also why are black/brown shoes bad? Sorry about being an annoying noob, I just want to avoid being seen as an ita if I decide to commit to this. I'm sorry if this is out of place for this thread.

Sometimes the changing of lace does actually bring up the outfit. a lot of Lolita's are pretty decent with a sewing machine and will upgrade their lace on things to make it less bodyline looking. But itas usually don't out of pure laziness and lack of dedication to the fashion. Lolita has a lot of modification work if you want to do it on a reasonable budget. It also will add a uniqueness that you know no other lolita has if you do small modifications like changing the lace to a more rich lace.

I can't say Lolita's haven't changed lace on brand either. I personally like to look for the damaged section of lace market and buy brand really really cheap then repair it myself. I have had lace that was popped from the hem and it totally stained beyond fixing and just replaced it with lace similar and if equal or better quality. If you can fix it then why not fix it.

I've done it. Though it's on my beginner Bodyline (now long gone) and the only photos of the results were uploaded to my poupeegirl account (now also gone).

Granted I'm not a completely clueless newb to sewing. Most people seem to think that to replace it you need to unstitch the whole seam, which is pretty laborious. I just cut my lace off, using sharp, angled embroidery scissors to to trim it so close to the seam it's practically gone. Then sew new lace on top without undoing the seam. Of course, it doesn't work when you actually need to sew the lace into the seam, you kind of have to use judgement on what type of lace you want to replace it with and where.

I don't think >>9257900 needs to replace her lace though. More like she needs undergarments that give her better structure, and clothes that actually fit. That bolero's really only emphasising how badly it fits over her lumpy potato boobs, and her dress appears to have eaten her waistline.

I took bad lace off a couple of cheap taobao dresses and an old school dress fro a lon gone indie brand my friend gave me, replaced it with better lace (not super expensive, but as it's narrow and soft it looks a lot better) and made dresses I can wear without looking costume-y.
