It's starting to get cold in the northern hemisphere. How do you plan on working a coat into your Lolita?

I personally moved from a part of the country that it doesn't snow and don't know if I absolutely need a heavy wool jacket to wear in a Pennsylvania winter. Or am I safe with a caplet and gloves?

One click tells me that average Penn. winter temp is below freezing so yes to heavy and pretty lolita coat (and maybe even a second style in jacket), gloves, a couple of pairs of lolita boots, warm tights.

Hooo boy you are in for a rough time. I've lived in the Great Lakes area my whole life, and winters are rough (especially for people who aren't used to it). Suggestions so you don't freeze to death on the side of the road:

>buy at least one /heavy/ wool lolita coat, if possible two like >>9251114 said or get a coat with a detachable capelet for a second look
>buy heavy gloves with some cute details like bows or cable knit
>get a cute wool hat or earmuffs, depending on your style
>fleece. tights. man. in every color you wear. layer them under other cuter tights
or wear them on their own.
>get shoes that cover your whole feet. if possible get tall lolita boots, but that can be expensive. short lolita boots or booties will work fine too, just make sure that they go up high enough that snow and slush won't get on your feet when you are walking around
>underarmor/thermal shirts to put under blouses are a godsend, and make capelet-only outfits at least viable
>for shits sake don't touch snow with your bare hands. it hurts like fuck and you will regret it (I know this sounds obvious but I've seen multiple southerners try it and then whine about the pain)

Anyway, Winter EGL General?

Op here

Thank you for the intelligent and informative answers. I have never really been in the snow or extreme cold. I was looking at coats on LM and was questioning if I would be okay with my AatP fire coat and maybe a scarf with ear muffs and gloves was going to be alright. I have had this jacket since release and never wore it so it still has tags. Maybe I should try and find me a bigger coat since now I feel I may not be wearing someonthing warm enough.

I really like how capelets like this feel. It's like having a blanket with you at all times.
>>

I don't have any experience with this coat, but it looks pretty thin. For me, I could probably get away with it with layering and hat/gloves/scarf, but if you aren't used to the cold I don't think it will be enough. My roommate was from south Texas and it took her a couple years to adjust to northern winters... if you have the ability, save up and invest in something heavy and wool (and size up so you can put a sweater or a second jacket undernieth). Bodyline or Taobao should be fine, if you can't afford brand right now, as they tend to have more generic designs in coats. Just don't freeze out there, buddy.

This won't be enough for you anon.
The suggestions from >>9251225 are really good, the only things I would add are:

>Consider shoes with a slight platform/thick heel, they'll keep your feet off the ground and are a godsend when it gets too slushy
>If you're not opposed to it, get a real fur stole/scarf, it'll keep you SO FUCKING TOASTY - fake fur has nothing on real fur in terms of warmth. Something like the collar in >>9251225 might be enough, but if you get one that's big enough you can both wear it as a scarf or pull it over your shoulders like a capelet
>Consider a thermal slip, Uniqlo makes some pretty good ones
>Berets are cool
>I would suggest you get leather gloves with a warm lining instead of purely woolen ones as they won't be unpleasant to wear when it's wet

i come from the north of sweden and winters here can be as cold as -30 c. they start in october and end in march. here is what we do:
be sure to layer your outfit, also under your coat. wool is your best friend, get a thin wool shirt to wear under your blouse, and wool stockings. layer the stockings.
buy lolita boots one size too big so you can fit knitted wool socks in there too. make sure your boots are water proof if the snow gets slushy.
fleece bloomers are great, and so is many petticoats layered on each other.
use wigs, especially long ones as it is like wearing a hat and scarf at the same time. speaking of hats, wear them. a lot of body heat escapes through your head.
spend as little time as possible outdoors.
get multiple coats/jackets because otherwise it will look as if you only have one outfit half the year because you only have one coat covering what you wear.
big cosy scarves, cute gloves, and an umbrella against the snow (snow might look cute but not when it melts on your dress).
drink a lot of hot stuff, tea for example.
good luck
>>
>>9251314
I live in the north, but I've never even thought of thermal bloomers. you are brilliant.
>>
>>9251322
I know it's really a matter of getting used to the cold too, but do your asses really freeze? I'm super warm from everywhere else than my legs but I got longer boots for this winter. However, I bet fleece bloomers are comfy. Do you gyus know any good stores to get thermal tights? I know H&M sells some but white tights are so hard to find. I used to buy them from kids section but my ass is so big I would rather get the adults size.
>>
>>9251314
Another Swede here! A tip my mom always told me- layer your gloves too. A thinner pair of gloves underneath thick knitted wool mittens will keep your hands warm through anything! I use thin gloves with touchscreen-compatible fingertips underneath my mittens so that I can still use my phone if I need to without freezing my fingers off. Warm and dry hands and feet are really important, and wool is the #1 best material. Plus, if you learn to knit you can make your own cute wool socks, gloves, scarves and hats too!

>>
>>9251346
Coats and outerwear are kind of her thing... I don't think you need as many as she does, especially if you have a long coat (because you don't have to coord with your skirt, just your shoes and tights)

it's not a bad thing to get addicted to buying, though.

Have this coming in the mail tomorrow hopefully! Pretty excited about it, but to be fair, I don't live in an area that gets super super cold like Canada/Great Lakes.
>>
Does anyone have any recs for cute winter shoes/boots? With all the dirty snow/ice from the gravel and salt my city throws down I'm too afraid to wear anything but my ugly snow boots outside.
>>
>>9251041
Welcome to the shithole, anon. What part of PA do you live in? I've been all over the state so I can give you a first-hand account of each region.

In general though, it gets god damn cold. And windy.

And, to keep this related, what's the warmest ouji-able coat I can find? + What sizing do they generally have? I'm pretty small, but I like to wear layers and layers so I bulk up pretty quickly when it's chilly.

I live in Bethlehem/ Allentown area. But I work in Newark. My mother says it's not as bad as say Hershey but I'll defiantly be glad my car has heated seats. I have plenty of thermal shirts and thick scarves with boots that are cute yet waterproof. So I'm not worried in that department. I also have felted bloomers and thick winter stockings if I need them. I'll see how the temperatures are and work according to how it feels to me.

Keeping with the winter spam. I saw this and really want the black coat but it looks too light to me.
>>
>>9251561

It's from Axes Femme, under their Fashion Misc. Goods category- stuff like gloves and hats and shawls is what you're looking for, should be on the second page. The red one keeps going out of stock- mine was the very last of the restocks before this latest restock, and there's not many available when they do come back in.

But I think you'd need some serious layering going on underneath to stay warm where you're at with just this little cape shawl thing.
>>
It gets cold where I live but shops and restaurants blast the heat and people heat their houses to a very warm temperature and I don't spend a great deal of time outdoors in lolita in winter so I do better in my regular lolita clothing, adding some boots and a heavier coat that I can remove inside. If I wore warm layers that I couldn't remove, I'd melt inside most places.
>>
this won't be relevant until maybe next year or the year after that, as i have some personal shit going on that i need to funnel absolutely all the money i possibly can into, but does anyone have advice for REAL fucking cold weather? i'm just outside of winnipeg, manitoba in the countryside and it legit gets to -50 celsius out here sometimes, especially in bare areas that aren't protected by trees. i'm willing to accept just wearing lolita/aristo during warmer seasons but i'm posting this on the off chance it's not completely out of the question at those temperatures. if it helps to know, i will mostly be in the car and heated buildings so i'm sure that helps somewhat. i would like to do a wintery photoshoot one day but i'm willing to scrap it until i move out west where there's much less intense winters lol. i know thick wool coats are like the gold standard for warmth in severe temperatures and thermal bloomers are absolutely genius, so you don't need to spoonfeed me shit that's already in the thread at all
one weird tip i have for people in similarly harsh climates is that fantasy cloaks/capes with clasps or ties that go beyond just the neck are excellent for hiding bulky warm layers underneath and it could work very well for gothic, probably classic as well, but i'm not sure about sweet unless it's a more classic-influenced sweet.

So I have a peacoat question, but it's not totally lolita related.

Where do girls find good quality pea coats that are form fitting? Every peacoat i see in stores is so bulky and frumpy looking. I was something cute and classy, like pic related.

this is more for normal-fag wear, but cgl has good taste so I want to ask here.
>>
>>9251669
Search 'fitted short trench coat'. Also search the coats in gyaru brands.
>>
>>9251626
At that point you abandon aesthetic for survival. Be reasonable.
>>
>>9251669
Just like >>9251684 said. But you can also look at skirted peacoat. Most of it is just weeding through the ugly tacky crap.
>>
>>9251225
I'm also from the great lakes area. My best suggestion on top of this is a muff. Mittens I've found make it hard for heat to circulate in your hands and can put you at frostbite risk, but a muff gives you a big cute pocket of warmness
>>
>>9251631
Goodness, that is adorable (and I'm not even a sweet lolita)
>>
>>9251669
Also, remember that most celebrities and models get every single piece of their wardrobe tailored. I would be very surprised if the left photo was not professionally tailored in some way. >>9251684 >>9251695 both have good advice, but don't get dissapointed when you don't find a coat that fits you in exactly the same way.
>>
>>9251568
Ohhh shit anon I'm like 30 minutes from there. Too bad the closest comms are Harrisburg or Philly.

DESU Hershey isn't that bad either, there's just more wind because it's more flat.

I'm always cold and I'm usually alright with 2 pairs of fleece tights layered up + shorts/bloomers under my skirts. Some days it's bitter cold and hard to breathe when you step out the door and then the next day it's... like 45. If you're stocked on thermals you should be A-OK
>>
>>9252051
I prefer to be a lone Lolita. I don't like to mingle with communities too much just because I travel a lot for work. I figured it wasn't going to be "prepare for the apocalypse" like most of the answers I have gotten in this thread where acting like. I mean I get it if this was like the dakotas becuase it's hella cold up there. But I'm east coast not northern United States. Not looking forward to Minnesota in the winter if I do go there.
>>
>>9252211
there's only a 10 degree difference between the average winter temp in minnesota & eastern PA (and you will sure as hell make up for that in snow). if you are from the deep south or the south west, you are not going to have a fun time with that adjustment.
>>
>>9252255
I'm not from like Phoenix where it gets 120 degrees. We do get below freezing temperatures I just haven't encountered snow up to you knees. The most I have been around is maybe 3 inches to a foot. You can't call that snow compared to what the north and east states see which is why I say it doesn't snow. It's pathetic in measurements compaired to elsewhere. I think it was like 15 degrees one day last year and I just put on fleece lined tights, boots, gloves and a scarf with my Lolita and it was fine with a nice knitted sweater. But most of the winters are usually like 25-30 degrees where I'm from. Not that I have never been in below freezing weather, just haven't been in it often.
>>
>>9252264
okay, typically saying "I've never lived where it snows" means like, I've lived in Georgia where it's the fucking apocalypse if we get 2 inches. If you're from Kentucky, you'll be fine. Just buy a real coat.
>>
>>9252275
sorry, I meant to say "somewhere like Kentucky," not literally Kentucky
>>
>>9252275
Nah lived in Reno Nevada which gets maybe two feet of snow at most. It gets cold just not Alaska in December cold.

I also did get the jacket >>9251631 posted in black I ordered after reading people telling me I was gonna die for wearing the AatP fur coat thing. Just didn't want to buy a coat that was too warm for the weather when I simply don't know how it is compared to the east coast.
>>
>>9251041

You might want to make sure you get shoes with good traction. It can get really icy especially if you are out before the sidewalks are iced. Falling over covered in frills, accessories and delicate brand is not fun.
>>
>>9252393
I resole all my Lolita boots for the snow. I should be fine there.
>>
>>9251626
i its minus 50 you need to put your health first, not lolita. i suggest buing a super cute overall /warm jacket + thermo pants in a cute color if you can find one, and maybe decorating it into a lace monster haha. accessorize with scarves/gloves no but seriously, just dont wear it outdoors. sorry
>>
last time i went to my parents in the north it was a snow storm and minus 30 but i put on my mums super warm jacket and her warm and ugly boots since i had to walk in the snow to a restaurant, about 15 min. but i thought no one would be as stupid as me to go out in that weather so no one as going to see me in my outerwear anyway. and when i arrived i changed into nice shoes, and stayed indoors all evening! comfort before aesthetics sometimes, i guess

It's super cute but it's definitely meant to be a layering item or for chilly weather rather than cold- it's less like a cape and definitely more of a wrap or small shawl, nor is it thick enough for very cold weather. The fabric's really soft, though it is darker in real life, more of a desaturated wine colour than red.

Just bought this coat. Pretty excited to get it. I wear sweet but I wonder if I should buy white or pink lolita boots?
This thread makes me excited for winter.
>>
>>9254878
I would say white since they are more versitile with other colors.
>>
>>9254878
Both. After I have purchased one pair I always think I have enough but I have three white pairs, one pink and one black. I live in a cold hemisphere so it's boots season most of the year so I think it's justified and I couldn't make it with just a one pair afterall. They all have different heels, style and size so I can pick a perfect pair for any weather. Lolita boots don't normally have any lining so I have pairs that are big enough to stuff with socks and pairs that are more comfortable to wear without thick socks. Also, it can get slippery so I have ones with lower heels. But one pair couldn't definitely be enough for me.
>>
What waterproofer do you use or your Lolita boots and winter gear? Like I know some coats are water resistant, but I can't see using the same waterproof spray I use on my work boots and gloves on Lolita
>>
>>9251225
>for shits sake don't touch snow with your bare hands. it hurts like fuck and you will regret it (I know this sounds obvious but I've seen multiple southerners try it and then whine about the pain)

It's not that bad, it's actually also pretty handy for making snowballs, the heat of your hand melts the outer crust of the snowball, which then freezes againt giving a nice solid shell. They just ususally don't get that big.
>>
>>9251606
I'll have to keep an eye on it then. Or, I could try to make my own, I suppose. I'd layer it under a large red wool hooded coat. It would be just the thing for a Christmas coord! Thanks anon.
>>
>>9253101
This is just perfect!
>>
>>9254939
...why would you waterproof pleather? it's plastic? (unless you have leather lolita boots, in which case sauce please)
>>
>>9254973
stop trolling the southerners they will listen to you hand then their friends will have to deal with "my hands are wet and cold!! why does this hurt??? my hands are freezing to my jacket :( guuuyyyyssss"

I just get mine from eBay.
>>
>>9251623
I have this problem. It gets cold enough that I am uncomfortable outdoors in just blouse + jsk + coat, so I always wear a long-sleeved T-shirt underneath my blouse, but sometimes I end up sweating when I go in cafés because the heating is at like 27 centigrade.
>>
>>9254878
Anon is this a casual coat? I don't think it'll fit over an average amount of poof.
>>
>>9254988
Because unless the shoe is one solid piece there is going to be a seam between the sole and the pleather and winters where I'm at are slushy monstrosities so if I don't waterproof my shoes my feet end up soaked and my socks stained permanently
>>
>>9251631
Review? I've been flip flopping on investing in an off brand coat like this on taobao but there are never any reviews about warmth or anything.
>>
>>9256560
Is that Taobao? It's an exact design replica of a BtSSB coat that comes up on auctions a lot.
>>
>>9256696
It's probably taobao. It's not like Americas making replicas. And basically everything on auction sites comes from a taobao reseller.
>>
>>9256521
Huh... Not to be stupid, but I've literally never had that happen to me (and winters are so slushy here I haven't worn pants in winter in years b/c I hate getting slush all over the leg)... Maybe I just don't notice because I normally have wool socks on?
>>
General question but
I got this cute coat recently and lately and I've noticed after walking for just 5 minutes or so it starts to lift up the back of my skirt somehow...? I honestly never wear more than a light cardigan as I live in a warm area but I'm abroad right now and a coat is necessary. Any ways to stop this? It's pretty annoying and pulling my skirt down every step doesn't look very cute.
>>
>>9256943
>And basically everything on auction sites comes from a taobao reseller.

lol what
>>
I need some longer cloak coords and examples, gulls.
I have pic related and a lot of black wool and plan on shortening, modifying and trimming it, but I'd like some examples to work off of

>any good stores to get thermal tights?
I swear by these
https://www.amazon.com/Angelina-Brushed-Interior-Thermal-Charcoal/dp/B00APODZL2
>>
>>9256560
Its taobao. I have the coat in red and it looks exactly like it does in the image. It's made of a wool like material and is very warm for the winter. Comfortable and worth it in the end. If it's a replica or not I don't know since I don't remember baby making a coat like this since it's a pretty average design.

>>9256943 what the ever loving fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>9251338
As far as thermal tights go, I've gotten some really toasty fleece-lined ones on taobao that have been able to keep me warm even through nasty Canadian winters; I just keep going back to the same listings and buying more pairs
>>
>>9251338
Just get them on amazon, I have these in white and I wear them underneath light colored tights in the winter
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008VWRM6O/ref=twister_B008VWVBEI
>>
>>9251041
Non-lolita here. I've been wanting a coat like that for quite some time. I know brand stuff is usually super expensive, but does anyone know where I can get something like that for under 100? I've been eyeing some from Asian sites and amazon sellers, but am wary about buying because those are known for using terrible fabrics or being way too short for people who aren't tiny Asians.

Sorry for mildly off-topic!

I live in a cold place and just purchased pic related. I wonder if it would be enough for temperatures around -10º to 0º? I have never seen it irl and now I'm little worried it will be not warm enough
>>
>>9268670
I have had Bodyline coat of similar material and it's not honestly quite warm. I think you can manage if you layer up but -10 is just simply too much. I have AP and F+F ones currently and the material is just so much heavier compared to the Bodyline one. F+F even has quite sturdy feeling lining material and both have capes. I think your biggest problem is the collar, it leaves your throat visible so you will need a scarf or something everytime. Just prepare with good undergarments and I think you will be mostly fine but I would invest in a heavier coat for the colder weather. Of course they will cost more.
>>
>>9268670
-10 f or c? it's probably fine in centigrade, but unless you size up and layer a bunch it won't be enough for -10F

I was thinking about wearing it with this kind of long woolen cardigan under in extreme temperatures. I don't wear lolita very often, that's why I didn't want to spend lots of money for something I'd wear maybe 5 times per year. But yeah, I guess sooner or later I'll have to invest in a proper lolita coat.

>>9268707
Yeah sorry, I forgot to say, it's -10º centigrade. I hope it's fine!

Thanks for the answers

I have a fake fur jacket designed like a hoodie. It is as warm as real fur. It is a 300 dollar hoodie though. If you are willing to spend the money, modern fake fur garments will keep you just as warm and even come in water repellent varieties.

A lot of people are acting like the New York City area is sub zero temperatures when really the AatP jacket would be warm enough as long as anon wore a scarf and gloves.
>>
>>9269511
I live in Appalachians. It's already gotten below 0 this year with the wind chill on some nights. It may get colder then New York City despite being so much farther south.

I'm totally for a winter general thread for all styles though.
>>
>>9269516
It gets colder in those parts. But where the anon is talking about that everyone is talking to is talking about the area of NYC. And just because they are moving from Nevada that is rather warm they are acting like they need to prepare for a Russian winter when really you just need a wool scarf and fleece lined gloves.
>>
>>
>>9270078
>>
>>9269564
to be fair, the anon didn't specify where they were from and where they were moving... I wrote that first long post and I was coming from the perspective of my friends from places like texas or atlanta moving to the chicago/wisconsin area. trust me, that transition for them required that level of help.
>>
A dumb question but what's the fabric most of these jackets use, like >>9251304 ?
>>
>>9268812
I think Bodyline is a great starter then. I did the same as you and started with Bodyline coat and upgraded. I wear lolita a lot so I have two long coats and two shorts and I feel like it's still not enough lol. I hope the coat works for you!

>>9267348
Thank you for the link. I will try if the shipping isn't too bad to Europe.
