I don't get why people hate them so much. They are amazing. You don't need to be the the ultimate flatland to look good in a lot of them. If they have waistties and aren't gathered awkwardly right above your bust like in OPs pic you are fine. Just don't stuff it up with a lot of poof, keep it minimal.

I have no breast being that I am a guy (albeit a really short one), do you think these types of dresses would be appropriate for male lolitas as far as shape goes? Pic isn't ugly per se, but it looks like a baby's christening gown to me.

The OP looks cute because the bow and sleeves take visual attention away from the otherwise awkward cut of the JSK. Even if they are both similar in style below the neckline. The JSK looks weird even on these girls, but the OP looks super adorable worn in all these examples.

Those dresses look decent just because the girls are pulling the cloth to one side forming a different and better looking shape. If they just let the dresses hang freely they would really look like sacks.

The thing is, back in victorian era, they dressed babies in lots of frilly shit to accomodate them to it since everyone wore more fancy crap back then. And eventually, grown ups started wearing less and less shit, but for some reason, it remained normal for babies,toddlers,kids,... to be decked in frills and stuff, even today. So I think that's why most people might associate sweet lolita (plus the pastel colours) to toddlers
