Sakizou thread. I'll dump the pictures I have, some of which are rare-ish.

Discuss:
- Beads or trim?
- Pastel, desaturated colours or bright colours?
- Heavy or light makeup?
- Accuracy or modification?

Note that these are the same Ice Cream sisters as in OP, but there are slightly different details between the two. Which one would you choose?

You're awesome, anon. I love Sakizou, so thank you very much!
>>
>>
This one is her 2016 Halloween illustration.

No worries! I was pretty excited to find scans from her new artbook, so I'm happy to share them.
>>

Done for now. Might upload scans from Hana no Uta later.

I'm not familiar with this Sakizou thing. I'm curious what makes it a /cgl/ thing instead of /a/ if that's not too much to ask. As soon as I saw the main post I was dying to see some amazing cosplays of that detail, but are there any or is this just illustration scans on the wrong board?
>>
>>9242031
The images are mostly used as references for cosplay. Past threads had cosplayers in them, but it's been mostly the same cosplays which isn't very interesting. I'm sure someone could dump them though, if you want.
>>
>>9242031
How are you this new?
>>
>>9242031
There are a ton of Sakizou cosplays. The designs are very popular because they present a huge challenge and most of them are absolutely gorgeous. You can't get this level of detail with most games/anime etc because it's not practical to model or draw.

The reason I'm dumping them is because cosplayers may wish to see the new designs and have good-quality references. I know I was searching for a high-res >>9241253 for ages, so I'm saving another potential cosplayer from my struggle.
>>
>>9241249
>Beads or trim?
Depends on the artwork, both work well depending on the design
>Pastel, desaturated colours or bright colours?
again, based on the design and what it's based off of. I generally like accurate to the art colors.
>Heavy or light makeup?
Heavy asian style/dolly makeup with red eyeshadow please, holy shit, it looks so bad when people have barely there/naked face with this kind of extravagant cosplay.
> Accuracy or modification?
As accurate as possible, but lets face it, some of her designs defy the laws of physics and have to be modified.

There's a fuckload in Romantic Jewels and also in Fantasy of the Dream (?)
>>
>>9242182
I like how you tried to make a point about there being a fuckload of male Sakizou designs, and choose a Takarazuka drawing to go along with it.
>>

>>9242229
Takarazuka is a type of theatre where all the parts are played by women. Therefore the person in the drawing is intended to be a woman dressed as a man.
>>
>>9241923
Man I'll never get the appeal of this artist. I can see a face and a clevage and some ankles(?), but everything else is a wild guess. I can see three potential places where her hips are.
>>
>>9242175
I'm not a fan of Angela but hers is still miles better than the one you think is better.
>>
>>9242472
And yet you choose one of the few works where she goes wild and messy.
You could easily have picked this >>9241253
or this >>9241949 to make a critic.

Her works are usually clean, and follow a main theme, like jewels, desserts, tea, and so.
>>
>>9241249
>Beads or trim?
Whatever works on the reference. If you can't tell which it should be, look at the rest of the reference. If lace is used, use lace, if beads are used, go for beads. Keep it consistent.

>Pastel, desaturated colours or bright colours?
Keep it accurate, but if there is leeway go for whatever flatter you the most. ie Cream/ivory is often more flattering than white. Make sure the colours of fabrics you pick all still work together.
> Heavy or light makeup?
Heavier, but it depends on the artwork. Standard big eye dolly makeup would work for Ice Cream Sisters, but Dodo needs something much bigger and heavier. At least use circle lenses and long streaky false eyelashes.

>Accuracy or modification?
Accuracy, but if the costume asks for the impossible you can change it up. Some aspects are unclear or hidden, in this case keep it fitting with the theme but do what you feel would look best. example being >>9241260 would need shoes for a con floor, going with something bollywood themed would suit better than the shoes here >>9241262. Just keep it in theme.
>>
>>9242753
I still don't get the appeal, honestly. I can see it as far as "I want to make a really challenging cosplay" goes, but aside from that it just reads as the kinda art that stimulates people's "oooh, shiny"-sense to me. It's far better than a lot of other shit, and she does have a pleasing sense of colour composition and a skilled hand, but it still seems like she focus far more on detail upon detail upon detail rather than things like interesting composition and themes.

I guess it's just not for everyone, being someone who's less interested in pretty details and more in more visually striking stuff and composition, pretty girls standing about is a concept that gets old quickly. Especially when most of her silhouettes are pretty meh to me. There's soooo much detail it all just kinda muddle into a mess of frills and pastels.
>>
>>9242902
I understand what you mean. I actually wasn't a fan at all (I mean, why would people cosplay from illustrations when it's so difficult and it's not even a character you like?) until I went to a con where two nationwide finalists were wearing Sakizou designs. When the designs are translated into real life and the cosplayer is skilled enough, all of the details tend to meld into one harmonious whole. It's the details that differentiate one corset or one set of lingerie from another.
>>
>>9241941
What is the name of this character?

Am I the only one who hates Yaya's Princess White Rose? The pastel greens, pinks, blues and greys look like vomit and the bright blue contacts and red ringlets clash. Also this is nitpicking, but I think she looks way too mature and sexy for this kind of cosplay.
>>
>>9244052
Imo Sakizou cosplays look better with less makeup. Natural looking foundation, brows, lips, and blush, combined with dramatic lashes is ok. Yaya is really heavy handed when it comes to makeup and so it's just too much of everything once it's combined with the costume.
>>
>>9244052
She does look way too old for the cosplay; sakizou's drawings have girls with doll faces. Yaya also uses western styled makeup ,which makes her look even older.
>>
>>9244052
Actually I think most of the flower colours are quite nice and muted. But the whites could be more cream/off-white to soften the overall look.

Her wig would definitely be better with a lighter and cooler tone though, and her eye makeup isn't really appropriate for sakizou. Brown eyeliners and dolly or natural makeup is where it's at.
>>
>>9242931
I've seen good ones, but I don't get why it's considered cosplay? Are these in fact characters? Why isn't this just considered fashion design?
>>
Are there any other original artists or artbooks /cgl/ likes? Anything you've wanted to cosplay from or just artists with designs you admire?
>>
Anyone else starting to get bored with Sakizou?
Don't get me wrong, her work is lovely, there's a lot of lovely cosplays, but I feel like I've seen it all.

There's only so much of the same type of design I can see before it just getting boring and dull. Would love to see her do more traditional (not just japanese) clothing again.

One of my cosplay goals is to crossplay as a Romantic Jewel character. Sapphire or Amethyst perhaps.
>>
>>9246293
>that raschel lace on the bodice
grrr, I hate it when cosplayers put so much effort into a cosplay but do little things like that
>>
I was always curious about something, I was wondering if I could get some opinions? I'm torn between Opal and Amethyst..I noticed that most bodices are corset like but have no busk..For someone who wants the actual look and control of a corset, could I do like an over the top bodice cover similar to a modesty panel or just skip the busk and do extra boning in the front?
>>
>>9246300
I love the giant spoon.
>>
>>9247645
You could put a busk in the front and make the front panel open on one side, so once you've done up the busk you can cover it up with the front flap. For Amethyst, I'd put the fastenings where the ruffles are one one side.

The only issue with this is that you'd have to make the boob part separate from the bodice and tuck it in. If your corset is stiff enough, this should look fine.

Alternatively, just forgo the busk. As far as I know the main reason they exist is so you can put on a corset without wriggling it over your head. I guess this makes it more practical for every-day wear, but if you're only wearing it for a day or two it's not an issue. I've never had a problem with putting a corset on without a busk. If, for some reason, you can't put it on over your head and there's no one else around, you can completely de-lace it, put it on back to front, lace it up, spin it around and then tighten it.
>>
>>9247606
>raschel lace
I have to ask, because lace seems like a pet peeve for a lot of gulls. Do you dislike it because it's inaccurate? Because you know that kind of lace is cheap? Because it doesn't fit in with the ruffles?

I'm just confused how some kinds of trim are good and others are bad.
>>
>>9247656
raschel lace looks and IS cheap.

for sakizou you want nice cotton, venice, and/or net/embroidered laces....which honestly you can find fairly readily online these days. don't use that $1/yard shit from joann's. it looks awful.

>>
>>9247758
that looks like shit, did you glue on all the gold the trim?
>>
>>9247769
>>9247841
This looks fine to me, I can't see any hot glue residue anywhere. what am I missing, what makes it look hot glued?
>>
>>9249154
Trim/Cording should not be that wobbly if you sew it on, and besides that, using cording for all of the gold parts is not only accurate, but looks terrible and cheap.
>>
>>9242242
....so still a masculine/male design. You're being pedantic. None of Sakizo's "male" designs look any different from the Takarazuka "woman as man" one.
>>
>>9249313
*inaccurate
>>
>>9241945
Is this the only pic of this design? I'm guessing it's the evil queen? It's gorgeous would love to see more!
>>
>>9249154
As>>9249313 said. It's very wobbly. Sewing it on would look much cleaner and straighter. All the accents looked glued on and bulky.
>>
>>9249340
Not being pedantic, just explaining what it was. >>9242229 seemed to think that Takarazuka was a different illustrator.
>>
>>9249365

>>
>>9247758
The hot glue's already been mentioned, but is that satin? And you really need to adjust the skirt a little, the waistband looks bulky.
>>
>>9244419

Her earlier books were fanarts of final fantasy and some few other series, so it's more like cosplaying fanart. Even with her later, non-fanart books, the illustrations work as one-off OC character sheets, there's at least one book that has two views of each character, sometimes in different outfits. So yes, the characters are the design, not the outfits.

From the cosplayer's point of view, it just about boils down to the same thing anyway. You can't just make a sakizou outfit as per her "design", wear it and then say it's Sakizou. Even her human characters are designed down to the hair style and colour, eye colour and sometimes even skintone. You're going to have to get all of that right as well in order to cosplay Sakizou, or you'll get shit on just like every other lazy closet cosplayer of every other series, even if you got the outfit completely spot-on. It's really just as much about sticking to the ref as much as any other cosplay is.
>>
>>9253760
Wait, really? I had no idea she did fanart. Do you know what those early books are called? I kind of want to check them out now.
