Not all punks are lolitas and not all lolitas are punks. But I can't say I'd be caught in a Bad Brains concert wearing H.Naoto; likewise I doubt anyone else there is going to wear anything they don't want destroyed. But punks are just as materialistic as everyone else about fashion. Hairspray and denim doesn't pay for itself dude.

Yes, especially in the West, probably because we put so much importance on the rules. That's why a lot of people say punk coords are bad/not lolita/ita. Maybe it's not exactly lolita, but it is punk lolita. But in any case, punk in Japan can look different from how we know punk here.

I feel like a lot of punk fashion in Japan is more girly.

That's kind of what got me interested in Japanese fashion. A lot of punk and goth fashion in the west is either super sexy such as cyber goth or tattered and dirty looking like most punk fashion.

I like the aesthetic of alternative fashion in Japan. It's cute.

What makes it a substyle is that you can disregard some rules/elements of lolita and it doesn't stop being lolita altogether, because you combine punk and lolita rather than wear lolita with a punk theme.

If we lokk at >>9222809, many items are torn /messy /chaotic, but in high quality. Think the difference between Alice Auaa and tearing a mall goth $20 skirt for the torn effect. They will never look the same. That's how most brands survive, they sell things that you can't easily replicate at home without lots of knowledge.

If you go into this thinking about 'what brands make punk lolita items' you're basically doomed to be a punk lol-ita. Punk isn't something where you can slap on head to toe burando and be like yeah, I have a punk lolita look; it's about the aesthetic, and you have to accept that the majority of 'good' punk lolita will still be polarising. The Japanese aesthetic of it is more like 'Punk + Lolita' rather than the Western idea of it being both a good lolita and good punk outfit at the same time- Western outfits often fail because they try to achieve both and achieve neither.
As an example, both >>9223424 and >>9223432 are wearing the same h.naoto skirt. The top one is punk lolita, the bottom is a failed gothic lolita coord.
I would suggest looking through recent Kera magazines at some of the non lolita brands to get a feel for their current collections and to find pieces you think might work. Generally collages are less helpful for punk lolita (imagine collaging the above two outfits mentioned - both would look fairly average or even mismatched, yet one works much better in real life than the other)

Gothic fashion also takes inspiration from Victorian fashion and old ballgowns. You'll see a lot of ruffles, lace, corsets, and those gypsy sleeves.
