The only time Sollux's godtier was shown was in tiny pixel sprites I think? The giant semi-canon ref picture has purple shoes on him, but a lot of people prefer yellow, which has looked way better for cosplays. It's not nearly as glaringly obnoxious on the eyes.

Notable names are making Homestuck cosplays with less frequency, and the fandom seems overall less prolific, so there's no longer as high a need to maintain a "who's who." It's a bummer that the stalwarts have moved on, but I think the list might no longer be needed (or at least, no longer needed with tiers that are already hard to fill).

On tumblr yes. On instagram Homestuck photos still net you a ton of likes and follows so it is worth it to keep posting Homestuck. The fandom has switched platforms.

Question for those that have all but stopped cosplaying Homestuck:

How do you feel about it now that'd died down? Homestuck is what got me into cosplay, and while that was the only thing I cosplay for a few years, I learned a lot from it. I'm happy I'm able to apply those things to new fandoms and cosplays.

What I'll miss the most though is the attention for sure. Not that that's the most important part by any means, but it was cool to have a fandom where everyone seemed to know the big names and cosplayers. Everyone was on the same page as to what's been done and who did it best, etc. Like an amazing Homestuck cosplay used to be grounds for gaining a following, and in other fandoms, an amazing cosplay just gets a like and maybe a share. I'm saying this as someone who really enjoyed following cosplayers while learning the ropes.

I'd count it as an auxiliary platform but I don't think it's replaced Tumblr as the primary one. Tumblr still gets and draws more traffic imo, especially with the ability to reblog something and share it with a wider audience. If you're just taking selfies it doesn't matter but for a photoshoot I think you'd have to be posting those pictures in multiple places. Unless you're using Instagram in conjunction with some other site like Tumblr or Facebook, you're never posting photos at their best size and resolution. Can't really show something off in a 500x500 square on a mobile screen.

Many list names also have instas with the same handles. After work I'll go through the more prolific non-list ones I follow. Lots of foreign cosplayers, especially from Canada and Eastern Europe.

I feel pretty mixed about it.

It was what also got me into cosplay at all, and it felt good to be part of such a big fandom, easily finding other fans. It was cool seeing the day one cosplays of new outfits and being impressed at the speed of how people worked (even if the quality wasn't always the best). There's also tons of things to discuss, tons of things to cosplay... tons of people.

And that's just it. There's tons of people, meaning the bad apples rise to the surface all the more quickly. The ones who become the face of the fandom. The unsealed grey body paint that everyone thinks every Homestuck is. I've learned to accept that the general public will never like Homestuck and I will even say "haha yeah, Homestuck sucks" despite it being important to me.

I think I'll always still quietly enjoy everything about it, and I may even still cosplay from it every now and then. I've made a lot of friends through Homestuck, either directly (meeting other fans and cosplayers) or indirectly (owing to the fact that I started cosplaying because of Homestuck). I'll still lament that the fandom's damage has already been done but hope that one day that it will be mended, or at least ignored.

It's so frustrating to me as someone who seeks high quality photos of cosplay to see so many homestucks content with 500x500 pixel grainy selfies. Sure there are the better quality cosplayers who are cross posting and keeping both tumblrs and instagram, but yikes it's not that many.

The instagram homestuck community just feels so young and unstable to me, even if i've been quietly watching it for a couple years now. The homestucks on the list that are there already are the ones posting quality content, for the most part. I feel that, anon. It seems like half of the people I interact with on Instagram are seven-ten years my junior.

Anyway, a couple non-list names I think are worth looking at. First, capricious_clown, a 17 year old from Belarus who cosplays a lot of female trolls as well as some genderbends. Pic related is her Meenah, which I find very clean; I think her face shape suits the character. I believe she's currently putting together a Condy cosplay.

Next is twerkquius, who seems fairly well known among the Instagram crowd. I really like her contouring and makeup overall, and she has a bunch of cosplays, and definitely more plans for Homestuck. Plus, I feel like Zahhak cosplayers are relatively rare.

Those are the only two I can think of that I know for sure are still making new Homestuck cosplays, and we post actual photoshoot pictures. I believe there was some mention of the ones like lunarlipstick last time the list was being updated, but as far as I know, she doesn't post much beyond clean and pretty selfies.

kiyyes on both tumblr and instagram. Good quality photos, but could do with more proper shoots-and someone to remind them to take off their badge for photos. Lots of variety, really cute face. makeup always looks great, and they do their freckles in a way that's much less obnoxious. They're pretty steady on posting on instagram, and keeps it mostly cosplay related.

Super sweet, very shy, loves zahhaks. Is starting to wear a little more than just homestuck, but still a good number of cosplays done so far. Nice fitting cosplays for their size, which is always lovely to see. Posts cosplay about as often as regular photos.

These two are a couple and usually cosplay together. Lots of shippy stuff if you're looking at rainbowfacekat's instagram, which will be lacking on image quality. She's the more goofy, friendly and sweet one of the two. anniepop is a little more 'professional' looking, and very much about detail in her cosplays. A little less chatty at cons, but still very nice, maybe a little shy.

These two cosplay with twerkquius, ipotanes, and instagram user forollkin, who is usually their grandhighblood, but doesnt wear nearly as much homestuck now.

Anniepop lacks a lot of personality showing in their photos, where as Rainbow is nothing BUT fun and personality. They're a package deal, for me. Really nice horns on their trolls, cosplays a lot of Captors. Their instagram is almost entirely cosplay.
Seems to mostly have con selfies, with a few proper shoots sprinkled in there. They look like theyre having a good time, but most of their photos are weird faces and selfies with friends. I like their Sollux and Eridan, and they're probably the best Tavros I've seen. Their Mituna helmet is really nice too.
Their tumblr has loads of tutorials, and is very well organized.

Their eye makeup is pretty nice. They're very friendly and sweet in person- really really tall too. Lots of cosplay on their instagram (mixed homestuck and other fandoms) for recent posts, little bit of other things, but the farther back you go the more humanstuck you see. At least they're improving? Really hope they do an actual Gamzee some day, because I think they'd be perfectly tall and lanky for it.

Really needs some proper photoshoots, and to quit editing their eyes. I seen a Sollux in a dress photo on there, and I wish I could pretend I didn't.

It is the year 2016 and Krazorspoon is still homestuck.

Their instagram is a mix of cosplay and regular life photos, they still appear to be a goofball. Really needs proper photoshoots- how long have they been The Equius? and they still don't have proper shoots?? Even better quality selfies would be an upgrade.
Their Equius is still good, love their Mituna, and I'm a sucker for fantrolls. Not big on their Karkat, but their John wig is pretty legit.

They're more than old enough to drink with us at Barstuck, but they still look 15.

And I'm done!! Others should definitely suggest some other instagram cosplayers for me to take a look at if they're feeling up to it. I'd gladly do more of these little reviews.

I'll agree that their paint is fine, but they'd probably look older or at least a little more boyish or mature if they didn't overapply such feminine makeup. A pretty big element of cosplay is the makeup you use and how you pose for pictures, so when someone decides to do either of those in ways that really don't suit the character they're cosplaying it can ruin the effect for me. Their makeup for Davepeta isn't as out of place either so idk why they make such a point of being so kawaii uguu for Karkat.

Alright, going in order.

Aurcosplay. Canadian, doesn't have a lot on instagram, but seems to have a good number of cosplays.

I do like the few proper shoots, and their eye makeup. I don't like that Dualscar cosplay with those massive horns. Actually, all their horns are gross yarn ones. Their Eridan cosplay is pretty bad, uses their own hair and a weird scarf, but I like their fins.

Not a lot of homestuck cosplays, a lot of needless filters and sameface. I do like their Aradia, i think it really suits them. Their Meenah is alright, but the Rufioh in the picture with them is pretty much making the face I made when i realized their godtier Rose was made with crushed velvet. And their own hair as Dave, with that stupid sliced eyebrow bullshit. Ugh.
This is another young cosplayer with good eye makeup, but I don't think they have much else going for them.
They're young, there's still time for improvement. Proper shoots would help a whole lot, because their phone camera is garbage.

I recognize this one- they DO selfpost here every now and then. Lots of homestuck cosplay content, nice professional looking shoots.

Somehow their troll!Dirk wig is leagues better than their regular dirk wig, and over all, the troll version is just way more appealing.
Their godtier cronus is bright fucking obnoxious yellow, but looks well made.
Make up seems pretty solid, I like the sliced neck on dirk- it looks pretty legit.

We know they DO take criticism pretty well, so, I really hope they listen to me when I say their Kanaya is the cosplay that needs the most improvement. In the form of a complete overhaul.

My favourite cosplay of theirs, and it really stood out to me, was their John. I love john with brown hair. I love how clean and simple the outfit is, and how much they suit him.

This one actually gained a follower in me. though, for anon-sake, I'll give it a bit of time before hitting the follow button ;)

Theyre cute, but 3 cosplays with only phone selfies isn't really much at all. I'd like to see more, because their curly john wig is adorable and their dirk looks good too, but I don't know as they've ever been to a con, let alone had a personal shoot.

I like their Terezi and Gamzee, and while their Nep is cute, the freckles in some of the photos are getting borderline MeepingKankri level.

A lot of their wigs also look like they might actually be the same one, just worn on a different characters. And god, that's fucking crushed velvet on the godtier karkat. Thats such a weird fabric choice for a cape with an attached hood. An elaborate fancy cape on some regal cosplay? Sure. But a regular godtier??? I mean, they're Canadian, so I guess the heat of it is usually less of an issue...

Less costests, more finished cosplays, and some proper shoots would be great.

I like the response I tend to get from here (honest and constructive), and I also think it's important to keep the threads going that we dare talk about ourselves every now and then. As for Kanaya, I never actually did a full outfit of her so that's still the wig I bought back in 2013, just restyled six times over. May be time to just pass it on and start over from scratch.

Anon was asking about a recent con, which was fanexpo, but here's a look at our turnouts at each event so far this year. We still have a Halloween event (I'm looking at renting a hall of sorts for it), and a Christmas Party sometime mid December that should be happening this year.

Anime North is always our biggest turn out, just because of the size of the convention. When its 'Canada's Biggest Con', no one cares that its outdoors, has nothing interesting to do, and way hotter than Canada has any right to be. They're coming and they're wearing fucking homestuck. Otherwise, i've been really sad watching my numbers slowly dwindle...

Established events are only because I'm anal about organizing them, honestly. I've been running this shitshow long enough I was able to list it on my resume this month. Homestuck will me long dead and I'll still be the asshole making 413 meetups at Cloud Gardens each spring.

WV is Isaac! He's very nice, and runs a shitpost tumblr and instagam instead of a real one, so you'd probably not want it. The whole idea is hilarious to me- WV running a shitpost blog. Isaac is about 17, poc, and has remade his WV at least once to improve it. Seems to be his favourite homestuck cosplay. He's been in Torontostuck at least 2 and a half years now.

Xagave spends DAYS sanding their horns and doing those tiny dots. They're so rightfully proud of them, and I'm really glad they're being recognized, even a little bit. Also, they repeatedly referred to their godtier sollux as 'Bead Hell' because they had to hand sew every shiny bead onto the edges and around the symbol. But I didn't want to go right out and say 'hey my s.o has cosplayed godtier sollux too' when Doom Godtiers were up for discussion- it would have been a little awkward.

Yeah, that was gonna be the one I suggested. Especially if you're doing international travel, it's the only one out here worth going to. I don't have an issue with Kopf cons, but I also live here and they happen often enough to keep me busy.

Barstuck at Acen was a huge success this year, and we definitely want to keep that going for future years. Unfortunately for me, the Homestuck shoot and the Steven Universe shoot were right on top of each other, so I had to pick and choose. I stuck around for both, and it seemed to me that whoever was running the Homestuck one was far more experienced. There was still a pretty decent turnout, but I highly doubt it was quite to levels seen during the comic's heyday.

Its always nice to see cis males put effort into cosplays. This guy needs to work on his Jake wig, but I like his Dirk cosplays quite a bit. He has a few proper shoots but more would be great. His dreamer's Boxcar prop is pretty cool, not something i've seen before.
Some of his cosplays, specifically Jane and Rose, need a little more work put into them, but aren't awful. Instagram was 95% cosplay.

This is the most detailed Roxy Lalonde Bingo I've ever seen. Falloutstuck!Roxy is not something I'd ever considered. Pokemon Trainer Roxy, even. She's done so many clean looking Roxy cosplays and even her Jane doesn't look awful.
Her instagram is mostly cosplay and art. She seems to have done a good few photoshoots, but doesn't have them all posted individually. A lot of the nice photos are in collages already, so they're tiny and details are hard to see. I'm not a fan of how overedited the backgrounds are on some, and photos of her interacting with other cosplayers might be nice, since I really like the one of her godtier with that John cosplayer.

She could up her makeup game by watching a few youtube tutorials, because right now she does minimal and I think Roxy isn't a cosplayer that would do makeup half-assed.

She's another one I'll be following shortly.

She's got a very cute face, lots of nice photoshoots, but her homestuck content is less than every other fandom recently. She seems to have dived headlong into Ladybug with the rest of the usual Cowbutt group.
An earlier anon mentioned about kawaii-faced male cosplays, and Rye is definitely one of those cosplayers. Contouring would help her look more like a boy, since she mostly cosplays male homestuck characters.

Their face and bodytype makes me so incredibly uncomfortable, but I have to admit their cosplays are really good. Some homestuck sprinkled in between Borderlands, Undertale, and a few other fandoms. Seems to post a good number of videos, and doesn't like to paint their arms.

I still don't like yarn horns but theirs are better than most shitty messes that show up on tumblr.
Most of their homestuck cosplay pictures are featured in time hops, so it's very possible they are nearly over their love of the fandom.

They make a really good Leijon, and a pretty cute Dave. More proper shoots would help, because most of the photos are selfies. This is another kid that's probably going to look 13 until they're in their 30s.
Their eye makeup is good for Nepeta, but their eyebrows could use some darkening and shape.
Cute, look forward to seeing more from them, and hopefully nice pictures of that Davepetasprite.

Uses the same contacts for every cosplay, and theyre unsettling sceleras. Their rufioh wings arent bad, and yes those horns are huge, but they look like lumpy disasters.
I like their Mindfang quite a bit, but everything else isn't very good.
Needs proper shoots, a LOT of work on their horns and details, and to learn how to wig and makeup better too.

The thing that bugged me the most about this cosplayer wasn't even the shitty beard sacrifices. It was that they tag way too much. on so many posts they tag not just the character, but similar characters, even if they don't appear at all in the image. No one goes into the karkat tag looking to see those other characters.
Also, when scrolling throuhg their instagram, it gets to a certain point and all the posts turn into pen drawings directly copied from anime screenshots....

This one needs a lot of work, photoshoots, and time for them to mature a little before we could consider them worth following.

Wow, what a good Gamzee? I'm not sure they could compete with past big names like Gilbo and HarshWhimsical, but I really like this.
Their scars are nice, wig is good, and while i'm not fond of the Ribbed For Nobody's Pleasure horns, they're at least pretty well made. No headband, which is super common on Makaras since people seem to not know how to deal with the height on them when it comes to keeping those fuckers steady.

Not sure what they were doing with their bard cosplay for him. Spandex is not flattering on heavier set people, so that psionic cosplay is a little ehhhhh. But the sewn lines on it are clean, and they even have pictures of a mockup they did for the bodysuit before doing the yellow and back one.
Their GHB is pretty good- nice volume on the wig.
Their Karkat makes me think MeepingKankri... god, there's just so many people on instagram that don't know what real freckles look like. Do none of them actually have freckles of their own?

Anyway, yes. I like this one. They seem friendly, have a mix of photoshoots and selfies, and it's been ages since we've seen any decent Makara cosplayers around these parts.

So I made a /tg/ version of Sburb for me and my friends to play, and we're just about to the point where we can godtier. I'd like to make at least part of the outfit for them, the shirt and headress. I need to make a Prince of Life, Knight of Doom, Rogue of Mind, and mine is Page of Rage. What are some places to get the right color fabrics, and what are some good patterns. Since none of them ever read homestuck, the patterns don't need to be entirely Canon, little improvements would be fine. Any direction would be appreciated.

Most of those are T-shirt tops, so you can 1) buy white T-shirts, dye them and paint, or 2) draft a pattern based on a shirt with a fit you like, and buy a jersey in the right colour.

First one is easier and prrrobably cheaper, depending on fabric cost in your area. However, dye isn't always a solid method, sometimes threads are made of polyester and don't dye, for example. Also, I personally prefer sewing.

Hoods are generally made of three parts; the cowl, the cape and the actual hood. The cowl is the front piece hanging down your chest and together with the cape will create something to attach the hood to. Generally you'll make this in two parts to make the hole for the hood more accurate. Hood can be constructed with an inner part and an outer part, if the shape is out of the ordinary. Again, your best bet is to trace a hood you like and modify it. Make a test piece in cheap cotton or muslin. The one thing to keep track of here is the opening, which needs to match the circumference in the cowl. You seem like a smart guy, use math.

I'm the only hetero in the fandom, and it brings me so much worry. I generally don't like to talk about what I'm attracted, and try to keep it to myself. But people will often ask if there are any heteros, and make a point out of there being none. I don't want to speak up, but I also feel like I'm lying when I don't say anything. But I also worry how they'd react, and it may be even worse now that this has been going on for a long time. I feel like I don't belong, that I shouldn't be there.
