Weirdest Thing You've Done for Cosplay

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

What's the weirdest thing you've done/made/said for cosplay? J-fashion stories also welcome. I've got two to start us off.

>Cosplaying Doll from Black Butler
>Need white false eyelashes
>I search high and low online, can't find anything other than shitty white feather ones
>Sometime later, I'm at an adult megastore with a friend just for fun, laughing at bad pornos and stuff
>Look over to a turnstyle display rack
>There they are
>The white eyelashes ive been looking for all this time
>End up leaving a sex shop having purchased only a pair of false eyelashes

The cashier thought it was pretty funny, too.
>>
>>9189274
You can get them on Aliexpress. I just bought some for Halloween

2nd story

>Friend cosplaying Cidney from FFXV
>Cosplay has a thong peeking above her shorts
>But who has the time to wear a thong anyway
>Buy a cheap thong, cut the straps off
>I'm pinning thong straps onto my friend's shorts
>>
>>9189274

The only one I could come up with was making a giant sling shot out of PVC Pipes, Duct Tape, and Ace Bandage for a Gijinka Angry Birds cosplay back in 2012, last minute
>>
>need rare fabric for cosplay
>oh look a store in nyc has it!
>no online orders
>store has apparently not joined the 21st century
>wat do

>days later, get crazy idea
>find cheap plane ticket to new jersey
>let's do this

Well, I always wanted to go to New York anyway. It took a cosplay to motivate me to actually do it.
>>
I'm female and have the normal amount of facial hair a white female would (aka, just a few thin blonde hairs) but I shave my entire face before photoshoots to create a smoother surface for makeup. Also shaving the back of my neck for wigs that are up or short in the back
>>
Wearing a tampon with an overnight pad because you can't trust a fucking period at a con.
>>
>>9189321
Get a menstrual cup. Seriously. It won't tear up your vagina the way rayon fibers in tampons do
>>
>>9189315
Before you go to NYC try Halsey Fabrics in Newark, NJ! idk what kind of fabric you're looking for but they do have cheap stuff. NYC is going to be more pricey of course.
>>
>>9189320
Seconding shaving my neck. I was getting my hair cut a week or so before a con and asked them to shave my neck for a wig. She gave me a weird look but did it anyway.
>>
>>9189324
The NY trip actually already happened, but I appreciate this advice! Next time I'm in that area I'll check it out.
>>
I have a habit of buying things just for one tiny bit that I need for a cosplay.
The only example I can think of at the moment is buying a notebook just because the cover was made of a type of plastic that I really needed.
>>
>>9189335
Haha I thought I was the only one who cannibalized notebooks and plastic folders. Once I needed a small bit of fur so I bought a teddy bear from a dollar store and chopped it up.
>>
>>9189362
I do that too, buying second hand/cheap soft toys is so much cheaper than buying fur material.

>feel kind of mean for chopping up lil cute plush animals though
>>
I just bought 3 screen door meshes for a cosplay. It's a full head helmet that has the front a solid piece so I can make the eye slight inconspicuous. And cover with screening to make more depth. Dude at Home Depot just stared at me completely confused with I piled it with some more Big Gap Foam Filler and a bunch of PVC piping. Granted I'm 4'11 and at the time was dressed for the beach.
>>
>>9189570
Please don't make this a period thread.
>>
>>9189315
pics of fabric
>>
I've plastic wrapped my arm and then masking taped it far too many times. And also on one occasion I plastic wrapped my head and Vaselined my eyebrows so I could make a helmet that needed to cover the top half of my face. Somehow I have never learnt to have someone in the house when I tape up my arm though, so I have to cut it off with my free arm and try not to cut myself in the process.
>>
Bic razored my head, my hair was down to my navel.
>>
I've made a weight-bearing corset out of garden fence for a costume once. People asked me how I made my wong harness and when I told them they couldnt believe it. I love weird solutions!

I once hot glued ribbon to my legs to achieve pic related.
>>
Probably super tame for what you guys do but I recently shaved my arm pits because of body paint.

Guys need to appreciate their bae's, because that was a fucking hassle and I can't imagine doing it every day.

what is wrong with you?
>>
>>9189820
I had a lot of issues with this cosplay, had to make a new tail at the hotel out of a belt and scraps. I was pretty young too but still pretty happy with how it turned out. If I could do it again I would fix it to sheer hosery.
>>
>>9189829
you fucking hot glued something to your body, are you insane?
>>
>>9189832
Is this thread not about the weirdest thing you've done for cosplay? It doesn't take much to hold it together, anything just above the calf will hold up on its own if its wrapped firmly enough.
>>
>>9189274
One of my ex-friends shaved her eyebrows off so she could redraw them to cosplay....Light from Death Note. Because eyebrow accuracy is super important for Death Note cosplay.
>>
>>9189758
>>9189823
I remember when I got my first facial and my eyelashes got dyed white
>>
>>9189846
>shaved her eyebrows off so she could redraw them to cosplay

This happens more often than you think.
>>
Made an entire cosplay in the back of a car on the way to a con, because ex-friend was seriously stroking out with tantrums due to not having anything to wear.
>She had 9 months of paychecks until the con and no expenses to worry about
>Waited until we packed and IN THE CAR to start freaking out.

It came out really well, all things considered. She didn't even wear it. I could have cried.
>>

>>9189816

>>
>>9189274
Sorry, I must be dense, but how do you make these work with regular black eyelashes?
>>
>>9189969
White mascara
>>
>>9189320
Same.
I'm a guy with long hair though.
>>
>>9189969
This>>9189979 , but white mascara can be pretty hard to find. You can buy mascara primer(which mine is white, so it helps lighten your eyelash color in the first place) an then sprinkle some white eyeshadow on your lashes. It works pretty well.
>>
I fucked 2 of 3 judgues in order to win the cosplay contest
>>
>>9189274

With the image and the beginning of the story, I was sure it was going to end with you painting black lashes white and getting junk in your eyes. Thank you for not being insane OP
>>
>>9189816
I know a girl that used rubber cement to hold her stockings up for a cosplay once. I guess it was all she had on-hand.
She got chemical burns, as you'd expect.
I told her about sock glue and I hope she actually bought it, jesus.
>>
>>9189979
>>9190030
Wow, well that wraps it up pretty nicely. Thanks!
I can't say I've ever seen white mascara anywhere around here so maybe I'll give the mascara primer/eyeshadow method a try.
>>
It felt kinda weird trying to paper mache a throw cushion because it had the exact shape I wanted. Also got some weird looks from my family.

There's a difference between doing something kinda weird and gluing eyelashes to your face with superglue or something. OP's post is a good example: it's a funny story and kinda odd but not idiotic. If that was the case, it would've been called the stupidest thing you've ever done for cosplay.

I was using resin on my balcony and my neighbours cat kept on bring like "what's going on" so I had to lock her in my house so she would get hurt by the fumes or ruin my props.
I also had to get gas while cosplaying on my way to a con. That's just weird, man. You don't really expect prince Zuko to be filling up a tank
>>
>>9192609
I've stopped for gas in Lolita and cosplay. Worst was when my card wasnt working and I had to actually step inside dressed for all intents and purpose like a cat girl. I had to wear my sunglasses in because I was so embarrassed.

>Me and my friend were on a bit of a last minute costume construction bender on the friday night
>I'm weathering some bandages for my scarecrow costume
>Shes making these huge craft foam scales for a dinosaur themed costume
>Saturday morning rolls around
>Bandages won't stay on so I hot glue them to my trousers
>The dodgy wiring in the hostel has short circuited my glue gun so it's operating at approx. 2.5 times the normal temperature
>Hot enough to melt all the plastic around the nozzle off and fuse it into my suitcase lid
>Have to glue down bandage with trousers on
>Even through 2 layers of thick ass fabric, it hurt like a bitch
>This is when my friend realizes there's no way to attach the scales to her legs
>Spend the next 25 minutes hot gluing the scales to her bare legs
>It was painful for us both
>Room still smelled like singed flesh when we got home
>Also, Scarecrow doesn't wear shoes
>So I went from new cross gate to the excel center and back with no shoes on

Ah, to be young and foolish

This was the same con that I nearly went blind at, so if anyone would like that story I've got caps of the last time I posted it

>>
>>9196652
Well I mean anyone who has worn contact lenses (esp prescription ones, since you wear them most of the day) could probably attest to this not being true. No cooking while wearing contacts? There's no way that, out of the thousands of people that wear contacts every day, every single person takes oout their contacts to cook breakfast in the morning or dinner at night. If contacts melted in our eyes at just the heat from a grill or oven I think we'd be hearing about it more.

I mean maybe this would be true if this girl had her face like 3 inches from the grill for multiple minutes but if she's stupid enough to do that then she shouldnt be surprised that she went blind.

No this is the first time I found out the owners thought it was ok to wear homemade contact lenses. Here's a stock photo of the walrus muzzle (won't let me save it) from their site with the homemade contacts visible.
Excellent prosthetic makers (I don't have the walrus one, I have a different animal but it's beautifully detailed and is the best one I could find for the animal I wanted) but they make bad decisions regarding their eyes apparently

Oh boy I think that was me.
I've told this before on cgl: when I was 15 or so I used to bind with duct tape as I didn't know better and it worked fine.
After spending the whole day with my tits covered in duct tape, I went to take it off and ended up ripping a layer of skin off the side of my breast and nipple.

It hurt like a bitch and I spend a couple months with a tiny scar but it ended up fading as years went by.

Regular lens wearer here. Once I was hanging out at a friend's place and he had a fire going on in a pit in his backyard. It was really smokey - we kept throwing stuff in there for giggles and were sitting close to it. (and I may have stuck my head into the smoke once because I was young and dumb). Went home, took my lenses out, went to sleep.

Woke up the next day, popped my lenses in, go about my daily business. About three hours in, they start burning like no other (it felt like my eyes were drying out). I ended up chucking the lenses out (they're ones that normally get replaced biweekly). Likely smoke and particulate junk got stuck on the lenses and were messing the hell out of my eyes.

Also - I woke up the next two days with itchy red eyes, until I realized that I'd gone to sleep with smokey hair. Wised up and threw the pillowcase into the laundry. Wash your hair before going to sleep if you've been around a fire!
