About 13 or 14
>How old were you when you bought your very first brand dress?
18, with my first paycheck from my part time job. Blew it all on lolita because I'm extremely responsible.
>How old are you now?
19
>How old do you plan to be when you give up the fashion forever?
I don't know, I don't want to. I'm not planning that far ahead, honestly. If I graduate from the fashion I hope it's because I found something else that I love more, but at the moment that doesn't seem plausible. Maybe I'll be a kawaii granny.

14, I think? I'm not sure.

>How old were you when you bought your very first brand dress?
16 when my parents bought me my first burando, 21 when I bought myself my first brand with my own money and shipped to my own apartment. I differentiate between the two because it wasn't until I was able to do the latter that I really started wearing the fashion.

Seriously though, I'm planning to at least tone it down a lot once I have a child that's old enough to go to school. I'll still wear lolita pieces and might still wear proper lolita to events but at that point probably won't go the full nine yards to follow the ruurus when I'm just going out and about. As for completely dropping everything lolita forever, I honestly don't see it happening. As long as I fit IW I'll continue to look classy in a socially acceptable way and no one can stop me!

I was 19 years old, this was way back in 2003.
>How old were you when you bought your very first brand dress?
I was 21, it was a BTSSB Karami jsk which I sadly no longer own because it became damaged. I kinda want to buy a new one for nostalgia's sake.

32.
>How old do you plan to be when you give up the fashion forever?
I don't know.
If I give up it won't be because of my age but because I no longer have interest or feel uneasy in it.
I don't wear a lot of sweet pieces, just old school which is more toned down and gothic which I feel are still ok for my age.
I'm madly in love with older AATP prints, I don't care how old I am, I still want to rock them!

I feel like I'm already way too old for it.
And it's horrible because I love sweet best.
Imagine an old lady, so old she's shrunk down to 4'5" and doesn't have any of her original hair color left, wearing ott sweet.
It's gonna be bad.

Probably some time around my thirties. I'll probably never get rid of my wardrobe, or stop loving lolita though. I wish I could wear it forever, but the career I'm working towards is pretty conservative, and other factors in my life would make it very difficult to be involved in the fashion after a certain point. I'm just enjoying however much time I have left.
>>

>It's gonna be bad.
I think you mean adorable and fabulous
Personally I'm more worried about being middle aged in alt fashion. Society in general is a lot more forgiving of youth and the elderly but middle aged women, especially married ones with a family, are terribly restricted in what they're 'allowed' do without being judged to hell and back. Part of me wants to skip middle age and jump right to being a fabulous granny who gives no fucks. Just without the arthritis and all that.

As soon as I'm no longer interested, which could be never.

It's clothing, not a costume or youthful hobby like skateboarding. I'm going to wear clothing forever either way.

I was 14 when I first noticed the style in anime, but it wasn't until I was 17 when I found out it was an actual fashion with brands and magazines and stuff.
>How old were you when you bought your very first brand dress?

When I clearly look too haggard to wear it, and even then I'll upgrade to Aristocrat or just wear longer skirts with less poof.

First Bodyline as a 14th birthday gift, first indie at 16, first brand at 17. Bad handmade in between.

Can't really say that, can I? I'm still a teen I don't know what I'll be up to as an adult. I hope though that I'll continue as a daily lolita until I turn 20, thus I'd have dedicated my entire teenage life to this subculture.

When I'm unable to keep up with it, probably like 60. I imagine in my 30s-40s I'll sell the bulk of my prints so someone else can enjoy them, but most nonprints or classic can probably be kept until death.
>>

I don't really have any plans for that. I kind of imagine getting to the point where I don't actually wear lolita anymore, but still have my clothes. I've never been much for selling them off.

How old do you plan to be when you give up the fashion forever?

I've been interested in alt fashion for ages, and Lolita has such a broad range of styles and aesthetics I can't see myself ever giving it up completely. I'm into gothic and old school so this whole "too old" thing was always kinda strange to me. I think that your 20s are a good time to be involved in things like this, I mean you're likely done with school, likely still waiting to settle down, but you've probably got a job and the free time to devote to Lolita (and god knows it's time consuming. Good good if I think about the amount of time spent browsing...)

I doubt I'll ever fall out of love with the fashion. But lolita has become impractical in my everyday life, as I now live and work on a farm. I rarely have chance to wear the fashion anymore.
>>
>How old were you when you first got interested in lolita fashion?
Around 19-20
>How old were you when you bought your very first brand dress?
Not a lolita item per se, my first item was AP 2010 lucky pack salopette in black i bought 3 years ago, i still have it. I need to wear it again as a daily non lolita dress. My first acutal lolita salopette was Dream Fantasy bought in 2014.
>How old are you now?
25, next month 26
>How old do you plan to be when you give up the fashion forever?
I won't give up 2010 style sweet for classic-sweet hybrids or wear just classic when i'm 30. I know many lolitas in my country that wear Toy Parade and other super sweet 2010 style prints in their late 30s, almost 40 and they look still amazing. Or just any lolita style without going aristocrat/giving up lolita because "i'm becoming middle aged i'm old bawww". Who gives a crap about age as long you look good? Wrinkles doesn't stop you to wear what you love.
If i give up to wear lolita, that means i switched to otome or himekaji, i'm considering many times to quit lolita for wear just these styles as normie daily clothing but i feel really upset to give up lolita.
>>9175676
Same here, i believe if we have an afterlife we would be able to just wear what we loved in physical life.

>How old do you plan to be when you give up the fashion forever?
I'm already wearing quite a toned down style, I may always use classic pieces such as blouses and simpler, a-line skirts. I don't think I'd be wearing full coords often if I had a full time job though. Nothing against older girls wearing the style, I just don't go full out as is so I can't see myself making the effort. I definitely wear and will continue to wear similar styles though, such as vintage and otome.

You are welcome, anon!I saw online many eldergoths, super old models like Iris Apfel and i thought "why you should stop to wear lolita when you get older?", lolita is a fashion and not a cosplay where age appropriate cosplays are more reasonable. People is too used to see asian forever young baby faced models that make them think "i'm too old and ugly for lolita". in their 30s or more.

forever. You don't 'give up',maybe a lost in interest might be the case, but I love the style to bits and despite liking sweet, I have some more mature style things as well. I don't really care about being different even when I'm older. Because I'm already 'older'.
>>
>How old were you when you first got interested in lolita fashion?
Maybe 16-17.

Bodyline around 20, then first brand at 22.

26.
>How old do you plan to be when you give up the fashion forever?
Hopefully never. I might transition to otome like I see other girls in my comm do when they get older. I might start downgrading the OTT sweet part of my wardrobe in a few years.

>>9176235
When I start aging I will just wear those face masks to cover my face for OTT sweet.

No idea. I've been building a wardrobe of dresses that can be worn with my regular goth stuff (well, aside from Milky Planet) and have no plans to grow up anytime soon.

Pfffft. When I'm 80 I'll be too wrinkly and old to give a shit about what people think of my appearance anyway, might as well poof it up.

>How old were you when you first got interested in lolita fashion?

I got my first lolita skirt made by some indie designer when I was 14, my first bodyline item at 15, and my first brand skirt at 16.
>How old are you now?
21
>How old do you plan to be when you give up the fashion forever?
I don't plan on leaving anytime soon, if ever. I've taken breaks from lolita before but the thought of selling my entire wardrobe is heartbreaking. I've been in love with lolita for a decade now and I don't see that going away anytime soon. I plan on rocking 2010 era sweet for as long as I possibly can, haha.

I don't plan to give it up at any specific time in my life, just when I feel I no longer want to wear it I guess
>>
even if you love sweet teddybear and toy prints, it makes absolutely no sense to give it up at a specific age or to even ask this question. It's not approrpiate to wear that when you are 18, so if you are okay with wearing something inappropriate when you are 18 why would that suddenly change? And let's be clear I'm not talking about wearing it to your office job. Like it makes sense if your taste changes, but I don't understand people who already planned that they will stop wearing it at x age.

Idk, I will probably at least wear Emily Temple Cute and Jane Marple well into my 30's as long as I can still fit into it.

Where are you people and why aren't you in my comm? My comm is full of babies who think 25 is the upper limit for wearing lolita. It's so depressing.

I don't have a plan. If I get bored or tired, I'll stop, but I'm nowhere near either of those things right now.
>>
>>9177447
Probably don't want to hang out with those "babies" anymore. I aged out of my comm when girls in high school started showing up and whining about not having money for clothes and meets, etc. Now I just hang out with my adult lolita friends in private.
>>
>>9177226
A lot of lolitas think you need to have the face of a child to wear those prints. Even young girls get shit if they don't have a baby face. So when signs of aging kick in, a lot probably worry about getting shit for not looking young enough.

Anon are you me?
I have started at the exact same age,had my first brand dress at 18,am 19 now and feel the same about "graduating" from lolita for something i would truly love or being a kawaii granny
>>
This thread made me really happy. I hope you will always feel happy wearing lolita or find something else you love with all your heart. And I hope we will all grow being kawaii grannies. You guys are awesome especially the older ones I respect you and inspire to have your courage to still rock it at 30-40 and even during the middle age period that i dread so much because it's the worst period in a woman's life

Yumi Fujiwara is so cute and cool!
Lolita suits her so so well.
I want to be like her when i age.
Also thankfully my mom is still a pretty woman at 45 and my grandma is super cute so it reassures me that getting older/=/being ugly forever

I may transition more fully towards otome and may downsize my closet but I don't think I'll give it up entirely.

14. A girl brought a copy of GLB to our French class and I loved the spreads.

23. I grew up in a hick country town with little to no access to these kind of things and barely made enough money to stay alive. I am still a college student, but I was able to put enough money aside to get my first brand dress from IW.

30s? IDK, it depends how well I age and what other life milestones I've achieved. If I get a job that requires a lot of travel but doesn't pay too well, or if I have a kid of something, I could quit in my twenties. If I remain young-looking and financially independent I could be wearing this for decades. I can particularly see myself staying with gothic until I die.

I feel this. I think the elderly get a pass but middle-aged women are expected to conform the most.

Okay, so I've put together a chart of the frequencies of each response. When people gave a range of ages, I alternated between picking the lowest and picking the youngest. I also discarded a couple of stupid answers like >>9176452. I've not recorded the ages people plan to give up as they're mostly fairly vague answers.

Not sure what the best format is for it - a line graph looked weird but the column chart does too.

I'm curious about the year(s) when people became interested in lolita. Just glancing though the thread, it seems like there may be two waves? Early 2000s and then the early 2010s.

>How old were you when you bought your very first brand dress?
17, My family went to Japan for March break and I had saved up money to spend on lolita. Ended up buying one dress from closet child, one from AatP and another from AP.

I don't know. Ideally, forever. But I guess realistically it would be until I look awful in lolita, luckily I'm mostly into classic which I guess kind of has a longer life span.
>>
>How old were you when you first got interested in lolita fashion?
Funnily enough pretty old. I sort of knew about it in HS but all I saw was pastel vomit AP and Milanoo messes my weeb classmates wore. Then I saw Krad Lanrete's Mozarabic chant JSK when I was 22 ish and I was hooked.

Shortly afterwards. So 22-23.

Can't do that right now. I know there's a good chance I'll grow out of it but nowhere in the foreseeable future.

Yes, and I don't know. Probably but I can't predict the future. I always thought it'd be funny once I get super old to wear gothic and spook people.

I'm in my mid-30's and I wear almost exclusively sweet. I like OTT sweet the most. I dabble a little in classic. I will probably continue wearing sweet though I may add more mature elements into my wardrobe in the future. I don't really look my age and most people assume I'm in my early 20's so I don't really care.

I'm into post old school sweet and have a babyface. I plan to continue as long as I feel like it, so pretty much the same as with the rest lolita.

I don't plan on giving it up forever at the moment. Maybe when I start feeling too old for it I'll shift to tea length dresses or aristocrat, but who knows, I might also be one of those people that wears lolita forever.
