Previous Thread: >>9149720

Previously, on Dutch Thread:
>Lots and lots of (pre-)Abunai talk, questions and room check speculation.
>"Cosplay competitions are unfair to those who don't know how to make a costume!"
>TomoParty happened and... they ran out of food before dinner.
>CosplayNL Drama Bomb
>Complaints about the weather, which is fitting
>The meet was meh apparently
>Staying cool 101
>GamePit coup

Convention news:
>Abunai and ACC are taking place as we speak. Have fun everyone!

Next five /cgl/ related events:
>Abunai! (August 26th - 28th, Veldhoven NB) is the other big anime convention. It's going on NOW and Sunday tickets are still available!
>Amsterdam Comic Con (August 27th & 28th, Amsterdam NH) is a comic fair very similar to DCC, except this one is hosted by Showmasters. Tickets start at €15 a day.
>Elfia (September 24rd & 25th, Arcen LB) is an outdoor medieval/fantasy convention. The programming is still in the making so there's not a lot I can really say about it yet.
>Tomofair (October 1st & 2nd, Nijmegen GLD) is a cheap small fair with anime, manga and other J-culture relevant items. Just keep your expectations low and you might find yourself having a fun day.
>First Look (October 7th - 9th, Utrecht) is a gaming convention in the Jaarbeurs. They have a cosplay compo where judges mocked contestants last year.
Full Dutch convention agenda: http://pastebin.com/QaZ23aUA If there are any cons missing form the list, make sure to post it in the thread so I can add them.
>>
Hey the meet was fun! It just couldve used more people.

>Third time's the charm, especially when you are now sitting in a pool.

I just left the pool, did I perhaps see you there? Describe yourself OP
>>
>>9160610
>Describe yourself OP
White male, 1.80m tall, dark hair, ring beard and a beer belly. I'm wearing white swimming shorts and a pair of wayfarers, and can currently be spotted with a glass of Duvel and listening to Porcupine Tree.
At least now I know it was a Seagull who just ran out of my back yard.
>>
Never going to Abunai again with this hot weather.
Even heard that some people didn't have airconditioning on their hotel rooms and it was even hotter than on the grounds self.
>>
>>9160691
It's more than just a few people as only the superior rooms have air conditioning. I wonder how bad things will be tomorrow after the closing ceremony considering there only are two busses per hour which leave right after eachother...
>>
What did you guys think of Comic con? I liked it.
>>
>>9160691
Rooms in the red area got a desktop fan, not sure about the other sections.
>>
>>9160691
Soooo sooo happy i pay that little extra for a superior.
>>
>>9160751
I'm in blue, no fan
>>
Considering going on sunday, even though the program looks shit.
Few questions:
Is parking doable and how much does it cost
Is the dealer/game room any good because the activities on sunday look boring
>>
>>9160775
>Is parking doable and how much does it cost
Check the NH website

>Is the dealer/game room any good?
Full list of dealers can be found on the Abunai website, game room no idea. It's Abunai meaning small rooms.
>>
I see I haven't missed a thing. Good.
>>
>>9160780
There are separate rooms for DDR, Smash, Pokken and multiplayer, and a new large gameroom 10*30m
>>
Any pics?

Spotter 4 traps amidst the mediocre crossplayers
Deshima is getting interesting tonight
>>
>>9160971
Why interesting?
>>
>>9160981
going to try to take a cosplay trap with me to my air conditioned room after deshima
>>
>>9160981
Traps and beer goggles always make for an interesting time. Especially when you challenge you drunken mate to take "girl" to his room.
>>
So who going to deshima
>>
>>9161001
Are there pretty convincing traps then? Most people would notice traps right?
>>
>>9160702
Some friends of mine were in a superior and didn't had any airco.
Went to the reception to ask for a fan and they were already gone...so much for paying extra money :I
>>
Anyone know who the new C4 team is?
>>
>>9161089
No one. Seeing as there was only 1 entery.
They didnt say what they were gonna do with C4 dutch prelims.
>>
>>9161057
Of course there are convincing traps, although nothing screams "It's a trap!" more than large hands or anything that looks like an Adam's apple. Of course this is where the beer goggles come in as people stop noticing said features after having a few pints.
So yeah, better be paranoid tonight to make sure those girls aren't lying about their age or end up being boys.

>>9161082
They paid for this room feature, so if they're smart they better go and (kindly) demand some sort of compensation from the hotel.
>>
>>9161052
Going there in just a few minutes with my goon.
>>
Anyone noticed how Abunai closer every entrance to the con except the hotel check in without giving any reason? So much people lockedd outside. They closed the main hall of entirely and gophers are pissed.

>>9161145
Even the "secret smokers entrance"? I cant imagine anyone at Deshima wanting to smoke will keep that door closed.

inb4 smoking/toking is gross, smokers are your way into ANY building.
>>
>>9160733
Pretty good, spoke to some people that were also pretty enthusiastic. Also first time I went in cosplay, a fair amount of people took pictures with me and came up to me which was really cool. Definitly will do that again next year.
>>
Warning to all with extra people in the room.
They are curently doing a sweep of all the hotel rooms. Any rooms found with an airmat will get a fine.
>>
>>9161223
they've been doing that all day
>>
Where you at, C? Wanna see your Mei cosplay.
>>
>>9161223
you can sue them for that: the moment you rent a hotel room, they can only enter with your permission or in reasonable doubt that you are breaking the rules.
>>
>>9161223
>Sweeping hotel rooms at fucking 1am
So as if it's not enough that you pay good money for "superior" rooms without air-conditioning, they are now bothering people in the middle of the night?! GG Abunai, at least now I won't have to worry about getting a room next year.
>>
>>9161255
The hotel is doing this because they are responsible for everyones safety should a fire break out. The escape plans and fire department do not take 6 people per room into account.
>>
>>9161248
They check during cleaning, so just put up a 'do not disturb' sign.
>>
>>9161266
I get the why, just not the "when". Can someone at least tell me they're only sweeping the rooms they are actually suspecting to have more people in them than was booked for, rather than just mindlessly sweeping every single room?
>>
>>9161239
Oh, hi! I've long switched out but I might wear it early tomorrow. Im at deshi atm
>>
>>9160618
Hold the phone.. OP is not a femanon?! Maybe I'm too used of /cgl/ being a femanon base, but yeah I did make that assumption.
>>
Does anyone know who that translator was at the Lovurin Tamburin concert? At first he seemed part of crew, but when he spoke Dutch, it kind of seemed he was just Dutch person that may have been asked to do it by Abunai. Anyway, he was really handsome imo.
>>
>>9161299
Aw yeah that's more like it. I'm there too. I was sort of looking out for you today but failed to locate you.

Hello everyone!! I'm going to be moving from California to the Netherlands soon, I have some questions!
>Any tips on where to get good fabric and stuff like that?
>People to avoid?
>Any anons from Zeeland here?
Thanks so much!!
>>
>>9161279
I have a DND sign on my door they still came in while i was under the shower.
>>
>>9161370
>moving from California to Zeeland
Why
>>
>>9161370
>Good fabric
Online, import or check out the local "markt". Searching Google Maps for "textielwinkel" or "fourniturenwinkel" will also bring you some physical stores to check. As for specific stores in the Zeeland area (as in the providence Zeeland, not the small town Zeeland in the providence of North-Brabant), I recal a store named "Jestex" in the city "Goes". Not sure if its a good one tho...

>People to avoid
Dramafags, dramaqueens, dramaqueers... But honestly I suggest you just give everyone a honest chance. You'll notice who you'll like or dislike pretty early on. Just keep in mind that if you don't speak Dutch and would like to learn it, people here will immediately speak English to you the moment they realise where you're from. This makes it harder and way more annoying to learn Dutch. As for where to start, DuoLingo offers a Dutch course for beginners.

>Any Anons from Zeeland here?
No, but I do know a bunch of "Zeeuwen" (people from Zeeland) and have been there a bit too much. You can expect a lot of depressed young people, a lot of religious old people, a village along the train tracks that reeks of french fries ("Arnemuiden" or "Krabbedijke" IIRC), and finally lots of sex and drugs.

>>9161443
Thank you so much anon!! I really appreciate the resources!! And I'll keep that in mind.
>>
>>9161248
No, not even breaking the rules, only if crime is taking place or about to happen.

Breaking hotelrules such as "crashing" with more people then allowed is not a crime as such that it warrant unauthorized entry. That's the whole point, hanging out a do not disturb sign means you give no permission to enter, no authorization.

And this will hold in a Dutch court, it has been done several times before, and judges ruled in favour of the customer and the not the hotel.
>>
I'm insanely hungover, fml

>Hold the phone.. OP is not a femanon?!
Yep, Y chromosome and all. I also can't work with fabrics, love overdressing at Halloween parties, enjoy Islay single malts, and always feel lost on the dance floor.

>Maybe I'm too used of /cgl/ being a femanon base
Funfact, I ran a /cgl/ Dutch Thread survey after the global /cgl/ survey of 2016 (pic related). Turns out we have a near 50/50 mixture of guys and girls. I'll might do another survey after this con season is over, even if it's just to see how our ratings of each con have changed (and to add more cons).

>But yeah I did make that assumption.
Yeah, the regular cute OP images and Tully stuff probably doesn't help with that. Still, Tully has become the closest what we have to a mascot and the cute "Dutch Anime" OP images has been a theme from the start.
>>
I saw the creepy foot fetish guy at amsterdam comic con, guess it's the only thing he hasn't been kicked out of.

Why would he get kicked out of cons for having a foot fetish?
>>
>>9162241
Because CK doesn't just like feet, he likes the feet of little boys and isn't afraid to have them perform sexual favours through Skype. Hell, he even send hentai/echi to kids asking them if it turns then on. If anything it surprises me nobody has broken his legs yet.
>>
>>9162241
It's not the fetish, it's that he harassed women for photos and letting him touch their feet. This guy was a fucking creep that just didn't learn.

Don't forget this survey was done before the first edition of FACTS this year and only had a few votes. Stupid Fyra, why did you had to fail?

To be honest, everything feels nearby in the Netherlands as it's a small and mostly flat country. 3 hours is all it takes to drive from Middelburg to Groningen, which is on the other side of the country. Even the train service is pretty good, with it only being 2 hours from my home (170KM away), although it's not the "faster than going by car" I get when going to Amsterdam due to Zeelands lack of a true Intercity line.

it's easy but not cheap (talking about the train here) so if you do plan to take a trip to the other side of the country, be sure to check for special train ticket deals and see if you can snatch one.

>>
>>9162535
Yeah, buying separate tickets is expensive as fuck. Luckily some work contracts (partially) cover travel expenses which is great if you don't have or want a car. Then you also have those special day tickets you mentioned (ie €12 for a day of unlimited travel) and several train subscriptions like the Weekend Vrij (unlimited travel from Friday 18:30 until Monday 4:00, and a 40% discount during weekdays outside rush hours, for €32 a month) which I have. Plus you can get a (partial) refund whenever you're delayed by 30 minutes or more, even with train subscriptions. Hell, I had months where the NS paid me back €16 due to delays...
>>
>>9162534
Why should I care about GamePit and a tl;dr: summary of what happened would be nice.
>>
>>9162557
well, being a volunteer myself, i experienced brians idiocy firsthand, and believe me he's a lot worse then the document says, he refuses to give any info or communicate about what he's doing and why, even to the other heads, brian has been nothing but a talker and a bookkeeper, nothing more, renzo is the true head, he has been fighting for the volunteers (which is his fucking responsibility as the head), making the info that everything is going to shit public was his idea, although i don't agree with his decision to do it, i get why he did it.

Brian being TomoMark's BFF, is totally a one-sided friendship, TomoMark really does want to take over gamepit (i don't get why he would want something shitty as gamepit)

any more questions i'd like to answer them ;P

The AMV was a total cringefest. Just a few good ones in a sea of lesser vids.
Spotted a few with logos and/or fansubs again (seriously, why does Abunai keep that in the rules when they clearly allow those after all), bad timings (at least until the player pc crapped out), lyrics written over (my ears are fine and I am able to listen to the song) and the same old images again and again.
I liked the Love Hina vid and the MarikoAMV vid. The Azumabga Daioh vid was probably inspired by the Freaky Friendship-video of a few years ago, the My Little Pony/Madoka video was crap. It also didn't help that they were playing every video back to back, so resetting your senses was pretty much impossible, resulting in a mass of images without a clear separation.
I do like the fact that the presenter put effort into making something of it: he clearly couldn't help it.

Overall was Abunai again Abunai. Origami rockets looking like penises all over the place, looking out of place, countered by some admirably built pieces , but again deminised by the cardboard-and-toiletroll set piece they apparently used for their opening film.

I don't get it, really.

So they indeed checked the rooms and if there were air mattresses they just took them, even if you had the DND sign hanging (as this happened to us) BUT for just paying 30 bucks you could just stay in the room again, because 3rd person payment (as abunai DOESNT give this option....) luckily the guy behind the counter said it was already past midnight and we didn't have to pay.

Also too bad I couldn't come to the meet, was too busy with the masquerade after it ended because of reasons
>>

>>
>>9163591
I agree. It's more offensive than nudity, and nudity does get banned. Though, it's good to see that so far Dutch cosplayers have the common sense not to cosplay Nazis. Even though a part of me would love to see ignorant people cosplay Nazis in public in the Netherlands, and then get totally trashed/beaten up by our Dutch society. Now that would be a scene to enjoy with some popcorn!
>>

>>
>>9163728
thn you weren't there all night, it was really crowded and more so when they had to stop. Actually liked the abunai beats a little better because, unlike Deshima, they didn't stop the music and didn't change the beat so that people are standing still, they faded and changed the beat slowly, deshima is losing their touch, maybe these 2 should work together.
>>
>>9163741
yep they this that in a lot of rooms, happened to us too. They gave it back though but if you wanted to stay you had to pay. Wondering how many people left it behind. Because, well, reporting something stolen while staying in a room that's for 2 with 5 people isn't really what I call fair as well. It's kind of a lose-lose situation if you think you'll have to pay a fine, which is what we thought would happen at first. But a nice gopher helped us out and all was good.
>>
So what did you guys think of Comic Con Amsterdam? It was my first convention and first time cosplaying and I had a blast. Heat management is a bitch and so is navigating a crowd with a mask on. half a dozen people explicitly asked for pictures with / of me and a bunch more took pics without asking. Great friendly atmosphere as well, felt great to see people with much higher power levels than me for once.

Will probably go next year again and bring friends along.
>>
>>9163601
I wouldn't dare to go to school anymore if any one of those creeps went there. (good think i left high school 10 years ago). What the actual hell, it looks like they are obsessed with school shootings.
>>
>>9163809
Overly commercialised trash and it felt more like a fair than a convention.
>>
>>9163820
That's one thing that bothered me, it's in one big floor. Anything that wasn't a store / commercial stand got squished into a corner. It would've been a lot better if it were more spaced out in different halls with bigger non monetized side events. They had two halls so there's no reason why they didn't spread out more, there was one pathetic wrestling stand in the hall with the tables and benches, but they could have spread those throughout the convention.
>>
>>9163779
i think you werent there the whole night. abunai beats played half the crowd dead because they stood too long on one style. like wth with the disney music? and wth with the promised 80's music while 75% of it was 90's?

deshima actually got right because they have multiple styles throughout the whole night.
>>
>>9163855
At least 95% of the music at Abunai! beats was danceable. Deshima has been steadily getting worse and worse every year.

The only part where they played the crowd dead must have been the elctro swing part when everyone was busy watching at people dance in that the silly circle again. Which happens atleast 5 or 6 times every Deshima.
>>
>>9163855
So I take it you are one of those people that likes to stand still the entire night
>>
>>9163826
That's the nature of every Comic Con I'm afraid. All they do is cash in on geek culture and now even the Dutch audience is (foolishly) starting to fall for it. Meanwhile our long standing Dutch cons are non-profit and fueled by passion, which they really show in their execution. They offer so much more content, most of it being free and even their paid events are at a fair price. Hell, even a single day at Abunai offers more content than a day at ACC or DCC despite being nearly the same cost.
Seriously, I fear the day "our cons" fall as low as ACC/DCC as they realise they can get away with pulling similar shit...
>>
>>9163820
>>9163826
I feel like you guys haven't been to any expo's. This isn't much different from F.A.C.T.S or MCM. They aren't like anime conventions. Their main selling points are guests, showcases, cosplay masquerade and buying things.

because apparently you fail to notice how crowded deshima is compared to abunai beats. While abunai beats was practically empty at 2am, deshima was still full at 3 am and people wanted more.

eitherhow, you probably hate dance music in general.
>>
>>9163601
>then why would they cosplay it in the first place?
Becuase they're edgy obsessive fucks who spend literally their entire lives trying to be something they're not. I know these people from other drama and they are truly obsessed with getting attention for being edgy, to the point of threatening and harassing others for attention. Honestly, if I saw Silas in the street I'd push her under a bus, she's disgusting.
>>
>>9163927
I guess I can believe that. Didn't mention this earlier, but actually, in Pedro's video, Silas seemed super aggressive and bitchy too. It surprised me no one mentioned anything about her behavior, but I guess it's because she was attacking Chris instead of Myra.

That's a classic my friend.
>>
>>9164070
Ha.
as if the staff gets a free room
keep on dreamin buddy.
>>
>>9164070
To the visitor in this thread, new idea's are welcome. But staff tickets? That's new. Also, we pay for our own hotelrooms. and food, we only get a free ticket to our own event really
>>
>>9163972
so from abunai to castlefest, darn it showmasters!
>>
>>9164104
Oh that's what I thought. Huh. Nevermind about that part then, I guess.
>>
>>9164070
Not part of the staff, but I do have friends who are in it. They are only guaranteed a room and dont have to join in on the abunai hotelroom bloodbath, but they still have to pay their own room.
>>
>>9164114
>>9164122
Oh I see, that's still cool though. Who do I hit up for suggestions and such?
>>
So who won the friday and saterday compos? I had events during both so i didnt see them
>>
>>9164135
CAC on saterday was won by the Miraculous Ladybug duo. Their act was pretty fun.
>>
>>9164070
>>9164120
Depending on what it is a normal day ticket should be no problem(it's a general thing for event holders) but as said by others we don't even get our own hotels free.
Also there's no such thing as a staff ticket, there's just, tickets and VIP tickets(which are only available by winning stuff like competitions).

Abunai 2017 ideas:
>Abunai Hunger Games: last man standing is guaranteed a room the following year.
>Abunai branded handheld fans for sale in the dealer room. Batteries sold separately.
>Japanese whiskey tasting, pretty please? Also, not hosting any tastings before 18:00 would be nice.
>3 man hotel rooms (even if it means bringing an inflatable bed from home) would be awesome, but that's up to the Koningshof to decide with the fire safety regulations and everything.
>Turn on the lights in the game room. Bright screens and dark rooms are sooooo bad for your eyes.
>Release the (partial) schedule a bit earlier next year.
>Speaking of the schedule, an app like the one Animecon has would be nice. That or responsive web based version where you can click/tap on items for more details. Or just an imagemap linking to the event page of each event...
>NO BROKEN HOTEL EXCEL SHEET! Seriously NH Hotels, why not use your already existing online reservation tool?! Use your influence Abunai, you can do it!
>Share the outcome of the mandatory post-Abunai survey and/or keep us posted on how Abunai will handle the most common complaints.
>Tell those cosplayers sitting behind the hotel reception desk their costumes suck and that they should feel bad.
Okay, maybe not do the hunger games one unless you can use water guns or paint balls...
>>
>>9164134
[email protected] good luck

>Abunai Hunger Games: last man standing is guaranteed a room the following year.
mostly for clarification, hotel reservation are only for volunteers(staff/stewards/gophers) some event holders and some dealers. We could do that for a VIP ticket tho, but someone external would have to host it.

>Abunai branded handheld fans for sale in the dealer room. Batteries sold separately.
Good call I'll pass it on.

Look bud I'm going to try my darnest to fix that now that I already know I'm likely doing it myself again instead of having to suddenly take over.

Anyhow, I hope the gulls who visited had a good time.
If you have any feedback or ideas you want my fellow staff to take serious just shoot an email to [email protected].

Shoot, I totally forgot the sake tasting. But I prefer sake over whiskey, btw. So it better not be hosted at cost of the sake one.
>>
abunai !
>>
>>9164184
I know you're going to fix it. At least by doing it yourself you won't have to deal with salvaging a poorly layered schedule made in Photoshop again. I still feel sorry that you had to go through that, especially with all the last minute changes. Mad kudos to you for pulling it off and not losing it in the process Femanon! If we ever meet and your off schedule I'll make sure to send a beer or glass of wine your way.

>>9164190
Why not have both?
>>
>>9164218
I think im going to tell this guy in a subtle manner there is actually a way to conceal that. More people from the overwatch shoot complained to me bout it

Fixed it for you!
>>
>>9164222
Both would be the best solution, yes.
>>
Were there any decent cosplays at Abu this year though?
>>
>>9164381
Idk man, I think the best cosplays Ive seen in the weekend were the Overwatch ones. I haven't seen anything else that was good!
>>
>>9164247
Is that closet cosplay Reaper
>>
>>9164397
There was a large 'closet cosplay' overwatch group next to the ones that actually tried
>>
>>9164265
That would have to be a blends tasting then. Japanese single malt is getting insanely expensive, because most of the interesting, older single malts are either sold out or ultra rare. It will be at least five to ten years from now before this bounces back.
>>
>>9164540
It sucks how expensive it is. I love myself a single malt, but even the crappy Japanese ones are twice what you would pay for a good scotch. I miss my Hibiki 17 tho :(
>>
so who won the firday competition?
>>
>>9164540
That's a compromise I can deal with. I get that it's troublesome to organize two separate events indeed.

Anyone got any videos of the Undertale bit at Deshima? That stuff was cool, wanna see it again.
>>
>>9164381
I saw more interesting cosplays at ACC on Sunday, than I did at Abunai on Saturday. Then again, Abunai has so many halls, I probably missed out on some cool ones.
>>
>>9164738
Well shit. Now I'm actually sad that I didn't go to Deshima, would've loved to see that. That video request is definitely seconded.

I had the exact same experience as you had, even a mask that made it hard to navigate.
But I'm not bothered at all with the fact that comic cons are basically markets.
