I do. I worked in a film studio so I could borrow one or use my own DSLR, but my phone is the device I'm joined at the hip to and has the most memory so it's easiest to just take a snap, do a quick collage and upload something with a small file size.

I have a decent camera. I use it to take photos of people who are not me. I haven't bought a main piece in over 8 months. This one was $6.50.

This might sound stupid but I feel like it crosses the line of contrived (beyond posting selfies online in itself) to go set up a proper camera on a tripod, transfer the photos over and spending hours editing them until they're flattering. That is the stuff I do for important people. None of my coords are impressive enough to warrant detail porn or seeing me in glorious HD.

My Lotta coord pics (higher quality) were taken by somebody else so I felt ok posting them as it was a good idea to take the photo. She clearly thought I was worth space on herr memory card. It seems like I'd be making too big a deal over myself to try and take super beautiful, sharp photos of myself like I'm some lolita model when really it's more about just taking a quick snapshot that gives an overall impression of what I happen to be wearing today.

I'm not kidding myself or trying to be e-famous. My photos don't need higher production values. If you don't like my posts because my photos are just as cheap as most of my pieces then that's ok. I'm not going to try and beg people for more likes by trying hard and the people who do know what they're doing, with solid wardrobes and image quality can go on getting their deserved adoration. Take it or leave it.I never said I was going to beat up the multitude that leave it.

I think she posts on CoF to be part of community. I wish I could post there but unlike her I care too much about what my photos look like so I just post to my instagram where I know they won't get reposted her because not enough people follow me.
I feel like the reason I'm not really apart of the greater lolita community is because I don't post my coords in bigger communities. I'm still not brave enough and I know if I posted phone pictures, everyone would get pissy. But also I don't really care for getting asspats on CoF. So I'm constantly torn between the two until I can actually get a better space to take photos.

I totally understand If I sound utterly ridiculous right now.As you say, lolita is a materialistic hobby and I'm aware of that so I feel like there is a line I'm not meant to cross, like it's not my place. I genuinely feel guilty about how much I love this fashion, and it is my only 'special occasion' wear so a massive part of it is giving myself a confidence boost especially asI'm the black poorfag in a white majority area and there is literally a Ferrari or Lambourghini or both park outside my house at any one time. I feel like it's bad enough wearing my fancy stuff in public and plastering it all over the internet (friends and family make comments like 'why are you posing' even in shitty photos like those) so going out of my way to give myself the professional treatment feels too wrong. It goes beyond what I'm 'allowed' to feel smug about.

What doesn't help is I was wearing this dress when a guy selling CDs stopped me 3 times in the same street, arguing with me that I couldn't possibly not have any cash- I just tried to walk past him because 'I think I'm better than him'. His exact words were 'don't fucking lie to me, look at you all dressed up; look what you're wearing!' He wouldn't believe it was a $6.50 dress I wore to cheer myself up, he genuinely thought I was some conceited bitch. I am so scared of overstepping the mark. As lolita gets more OTT friends and family see me scrolling, ask me if this is the (narcissistic) crowd I consider myself a part of and I don't even feel properly part of it but still feel guilt by association.

You're right. My autistic self HATES getting new phones and starting afresh with something that doesn't seem familiar and 'broken in'. All my phones have been hand me downs from my mother and it usually takes me having it stolen to replace a handset. My Wi Fi just stopped working. There is a 10 second delay when I'm typing sometimes. The phone is 5 years old. It takes surprisingly stunning photos in adequate natural light though; people thought my nature shots/landscapes were taken on my Lumix GH3.

I feel like I need to hit some sort of personal milestone before I can think about getting myself a new phone. Some people don't even have a crappy old Nokia and here's me with a luxury smartphone wanting to upgrade to show off fancy clothes to people online. I feel disgusting. Sage.

Yeah, I feel like the fancier things warrant better quality pics because there are details worth seeing, whereas this dress is extremely simple and extremely cheap. Also if I wear something fancy it's usually to a meetup and often someone with a nice camera will take a photo. I do feel super guilty about it, even if lolita is my only fancy indulgence. I was that kid going to school with holes in their shoes. I'm definitely compensating for the fact I'm insecure about living in a fancy white area, never having been above the 'poverty line' in this country and my dresses make me seem less like hoodrat scum. People cross the road to avoid me in casual clothes. Older ladies tell me I look 'darling' in lolita. But I have also been shamed for supposedly being a conceited rich bitch in a $6 dress and was literally marched to an ATM to take out cash to give a guy because I felt so guilty- I've totally forgotten where I come from trying so hard to look nice.

It throws me through a loop. I wrestle with guilt a lot, but then I remember the fact that I never eat out, never buy coffee, have only been on a plane 4 times and most of my outfits are under $30. My lolita outfits are never OTT or hugely ostentatious and a large amount of pieces are thrifted. I have to constantly justify this shit to myself and my partner, but he is of the belief that most women he knows spend more on clothes. Then again he will spend upward of 5 times what I would on individual items, but he grew up with money and an eye for quality.

There's a difference between looking good and looking good while matching the lolita aesthetic. I'm not going to go into the argument about whether or not tattoos or piercings look good full stop, but they rarely ever look good in lolita because lolita is not a dark or edgy-looking fashion.

The way her bangs are shaped give her an egg head look? I wish she did the braided buns she had in an earlier look. I also feel like the ruffle socks have too much of a sweet vibe with an otherwise Gothic outfit, and even though its hot outside I feel like lace otks over the fishnets would work better since its seen in a lot of old school Gothic coords and it works.
Everything else is super hot fire tho and I love her vest /skirt combo, it flows really nicely!

Not the anon you're replying to, but I have a $75 camera and it's worse than my $145 Chinese phone in most situations. It has no manual focus and the autofocus only works properly in bright natural light (which you often don't have even in summer at midday where I live) or when you use the flash (which looks horrible). It also cannot deal with outfits containing a lot of contrast, and always either overexposes the white parts, or makes the dark parts impossible to make out, or both. My roommate has a $150 camera with the same issues. Unless you live somewhere that's consistently sunny and have the opportunity to photograph your coordinates outside, I honestly believe you're better off getting a new-ish phone than a camera of the same price. At least you can tap the screen to correct the focus on a phone.
