Can you describe your experience cosplaying at Comiket? I have read posts on it before but I always like hearing about it. I plan on doing it sometime myself but I'd like to be prepared for the differences as much as possible.

The big thing is that they have Cosplay areas. If you are just walking around few to no people will ask for a picture and you are expect to do the same.

Once you get into the Cosplay areas, you can't miss them just look for all the guys with cameras, it is game on. The more popular cosplays will have almost a whole photo shoot of people taking pictures while most others will just be standing off to the side getting their picture taken.

Most people have their twitter and other social media info on a sign by where they are at. As for getting pics with other players just say Issho daijoubu and if they say yes go for it.

Japan can be pretty xenophobic but people in Tokyo are more uses to gaijin then most. While I can't tell what they are thinking everyone I ran into at Comiket was pretty chill, so take that for what it is worth.

It depends what you want if you just come to Japan to Cosplay then no it would cost too much. However if you want to make a holiday out of it then yeah. Come down on a get here on a Wednesday, unjetlag for a day, spend fri, sat, and sun at Comiket cosplaying and nerding out. After that spend a few days on the back end going around Japan, I dare say that would be a trip to talk about for a while.

I myself am stationed here so doing stuff like this just cost me train fair.

It is a lot of fun, just keep in mind Comiket is not a Con. Comiket is mostly for selling stuff with some booths from companies for different stuff. If you go expecting normal Con stuff you will find it lacking. Also come in the winter, winters in Tokyo aren't that cold and way better that the super hot summer.
