Speaking of Palnatoke, my first swords were, too.
I loved them to death, but does anyone else feel they stick like a motherfucker?

I kept them in a box with baby powder (now made with 50% more baby) just so I wouldn't find them fused with whatever cloth or hard surface I put them down on.

I hate them both for ideological reasons.
But what I really hate more is their fanbase, the people who think without a second guess that what they represent is larping and have zero thoughts of their own.

Plus both of them are annyoing and when their videos have zero content is the better option, sometimes they just spread retarded/idiotic things or just plainly wrong

Its how I found out about a dick larp group. I emailed the head guys and they told me they were not a group anymore and gave me some other options. On the youtube channel I see the same group talking about their game. They could have just said they werent taking new members.

And perhaps the only thing they can help you with is roleplaying (Because you got HEMA for fighting and you know shittons of history for design), but such channel might be very helpful to new guys.

>>9140865
I'm not saying that others shouldn't watch it. Go for it if it if you are interested, especially with the tutorials.
But when they start talking about larps in general and clearly they only went to one kind of game and thinks every larp in the world ever works the same way is painful when in reality two larps next to each other might be completely different in how they work.

I also hate it when it's non informative just some attention whore giggling there with a shitton of cuts because she couldn't say into the camera two complete sentences without fucking up.
I also hate it when they do a "review" on a sword and doesn't mention ANYTHING objective about it. I don't care about how they like it or not, I want to know the statistics of the weapon, how hard it is, does it bend, what are the tip protection, how long and heavy, etc.
(this reminds me I still have to write down my own stuff here about the wyvern sword I promised)
Flailing it in front of the camera and giggling isn't a review. It's shit.

So what I want is to be informative. Make a PROPER review about stuff, tell me how was the game and WHY. "The game was awesome I had soooo much fun thanks for my friends #importantpersonwhogivesmemoreinternetfame" isn't cut it either.
Give it content. If you talk about opinions don't be afraid that others will judge it, welcome the criticizms, build it into your video ESPECIALLY counterpoints of your argument.

Then again, I'm a no fun person and one of my main flaws that I only see the errors in everything (then again, I get paid for finding errors)
Also I'm far from great from hema, or to be an all-know guy in history either.
>>
>>9140877
If you started a channel with one of those kind of larp girls I would think it would do really well. You have your side which gives the information we need and then theres a girl for everyone to watch giggle.
>>
>>9140877
>Get paid for finding errors
Where do you work? QA or something?

>Far from great HEMA or all-know history
True, but you still seem to have much more skill and knowledge than a large part of the LARP community. I mentioned roleplay simply because I don't have even the slightest clue on how good or bad you are in it. (Seen you fighting in that vid you posted and read stuff you wrote about history.)

Also, why not make your own channel? I think you'd do great, assuming you're charismatic enough.

alright, so the wyvern sword. I try to keep this short because I have to go shortly.

So it's basically the competitor of calimacil this new kind of sword that wyvern made, they have several kinds, and I bought a hand and a half sword that is similar to the calimacil bellator, I will compare it to that when I have to.
It is injected foam/rubber foam, similar to calimacil but allegedly they make it in a different way (calimacil still keeps it a trade secret how they make their own as far as I know.)

Lenght is basically the same especially when we realize that even calimacil bellators have a slight difference between same models.
About weight the Wyvern sword is slightly heavier, doesn't have a good enough scale so far, but will do measurements later.
The first big difference is while calimacil uses their standard fiberglass core which makes the bellators and other of their weapons wibbly-wobbly the wyvern sword doesn't bend in any meaningful way. The seller couldn't tell me what was the core, and their website doesn't say it either but most probably it is carbonfiber or carbonfiber-fiberglass hybrid core.
PRO: this will make the sword behave way better, you will have more control, will have a better feel to it
CON: less safe. It will hit harder because of this as the bending of the core is what takes most of the force away in a hit.

About the tip: no tip protection. At all. Then again core ends somewhere around 6 cm before the tip and the tip is really thin so it can bend easily, too much even. While the easily bending means it still protects you from stabbings to a degree it also means that after a lot of use that will be the first part that will get damaged. Especially that bellators and other calimacil sowrds are also get damaged around that part, they tend to tear up on the flat of the blade just where the core ends, and calimacil swords have textile strengthening and some other tip protection too.
tl;dr: it stabs hard, but not in a life threatening way

>>9140883
maybe but probably they have a totally different opinion on where should they channel go and what they want to do with it.

>>9140894
Software tester in a local company. Mostly we make softwares for pharma factories.

on how I roleplay... well I'm not the best at it either, but it's way more subjective then how I fight or what I know from history. There are some roles I can do pretty good, like being second in command, stealthy assassinate people, get shit done guy, etc. But I'm not charismatic at all. I can lead a handful of people who already trusts me but I can't get people to follow me who don't know me already.

The lack of charisma is one of the reasons I don't do my own channel. Lacking in meaningful content is another one. Not enough time to do it right is yet again one. I'm very critical in these things because I care about the subject which is larping.
>>
>>9140899
Is that the Wyvern on the left?
>>
>>9140913
yes

>>9140899
About the actual padding. I have no equipemnt on meaningfully compare the two padding AND the way they are on the swords are totally different which is another big factor.
The bellator has a half a cm thick "edge" and the whole blade is thick, especially the cross-section.
The Wyvern blade is thin, cross section too, and the edge goes to zero everywhere.
This thinness on the edge, contrary to popular belief, doesn't make it hit harder because around the impact area the padding can immediately bend and stuff. What ACTUALLY makes it hit harder is that the effective padding is way thinner because of thinner cross section and slightly narrower blade.

Handle is more comfortable (not THAT much as calimacil handles are also good) AND there were a lot of different handles for the same sword for the same price. That something that calimacil doesn't have, you can only order custom swords for way higher price than the original.
The pommel on the other hand are totally hard without even a hint that they wanted to make it soft. Calimacil has a hint of softness in their pommels but those are also hard as fuck when it comes to safety, so no meaningful difference here, neither should be allowed to hit with that part.

crossguard is thinner BUT made from slightly more sturdy stuff than the calimacil crossguard. So while it is harder the thinnes makes it bend just as much as the softer but thicker bellator crossguard. I would say they are equally safe if we aren't talking about extreme cases that happens once in a million. They still won't protect your hand from a hit completely so no real surprise there.

Anyone who's been to any of the 40k larps know how they make such good lasguns? I've seen a couple guides but they're not really what I'm looking for, and I don't want to spend money on etsy. I figured this would be the best place to ask.
>>
>>9140916
All in all the wyvern sword is prettier, feels closer to a real sword and you have better control over it, blocks won't bend into your face, etc.
But it hits harder. Not as hard as the good old wooden core weapons but harder than the calimacil one that's for sure.
All of this are no real surprise because it was made by germans for mostly germans, and it fits the german larp culture where the contact level normally is slightly lower, and looking good is a prime factor when they buy a weapon. Also stabbing in most german larps are still "not allowed" although that is sometimes disregarded so that kept in mind the tip is also understandable.

If you hit by full force, without control then I wouldn't advise this sword. Probably most people wouldn't appreciate the slightly more "real" feel either. But for normal control games I would say it's perfectly fine (and when I say this I mean by eastern european standards. People in the US may or may not gasp at how hard and heavy it is)

Now here is the red flag part: it's price.
I bought it at Drachenfest for 135 euro (bellators are somewhere around 87 euro right now), that version at least, there are several different ones so you can keep that in mind.
Also keep it mind that this is right now is brand new. Also important that this is their first generation basically. Calimacil is around their third generation of weapons right now (differs for a few weapons)

Also a very important part: I have no idea about it's durability. Obviously they claim that it's as good as calimacil, or even better but we will se in a few years. I can only promise that I will use mine a lot.

So as of know I don't advise the sword for everyone, especially not as a first sword. Buy it if you REALLY know what you want to buy and this fits that idea.

Anyway I have to go now really.

>>9140920
IIRC Scottish larpfag can help you a little there and when I get back I can probably post a few helpful pictures. Also Esh can help you if she drops by
>>
>>9140916
I actually prefer the look of the Wyvern to the Calimacil, something about their blades just doesn't sit right with me.

>>9140920
My 40K larp uses nerf guns, as up until the recent rules change, a gun had to fire a dart to count as a hit.
So very few of our guns look exactly like their 40k counterparts. And since we're playing a Rogue Trader based game, such differences don't really matter.
The one's i've seen online that look like the iconic Guardsman Lasgun, have been a nerf gun as the base, with then plasticard used to create the body shape.
>>
>>9140904
Ah, I see. Sucks to hear that, I think you could've been wonderful.

You want to wash all fabrics in the same manner you plan to wash the finished garment. So yes wash wool before sewing. Wash by hand or machine in cool water and hang dry. If you wash it in hot water or dry it in a hot drier you'll end up with wool felt quite a bit smaller then you started with.

honestly momo gets a free ride to larps all across north america and even got to go to magischola yet she makes the same fucking character to every larp she goes to. the mary sue esque characters she plays are so familiar. literally nothing about them is different than the other. i have a bit of dirt on momo because i'm friends with someone who went to biccoline with her via voyage north. apparently she's less than enjoyable to be around.

larpgirl on the other hand, i went to DRNJ with her. i didn't interact with her but at least she has variety in her characters and has a mild idea of what she's talking about. lmao @ now she's trying to leech off of momo's success and be more like her. probably sick of being her shadow.

there is a hungarian phrase "közös lónak túrós a háta" which in literal translation is like "a shared horse has always cottage cheese on it's back" tl;dr if nobody "owns" the project then it will be shit and nobody will do any real work.
Also makeing actually good videos are a lot of work. Talking to the camere so that the viewier enjoys it is a skill, it can be honed but it's not something that "anyone can do" without experience and training on it. That's why most of the channels so shit, it doesn't even occur to them that they can improve that aspect.

wisdom. the larp forge is the only channel i can think of which has a lot of followers and isn't done by a girl. Probably there is one or two more out there but the huge majority looks at the girls.
very simple reason: they doesn't care about larps. I mean if they did they would realize how much shit are these channels.

Then I will describe while it is a completely retarded idea.
And noone will care.

Anon: I really, really, really like this image.

Come to think about it,as long as it look warhammeresque it looks way better than just edgelords in black.

(Playing 40k i actually enjoy chaos just for how good the models look but play ork because fuck its like my 2nd game ever and realised that i cared way much more about the models than the game, i just want to paint them while watching trailer park boys )

Pic unrelated, i made dis wiff my lil' paws because i tougth it sucked last year to see poeple (does the e or the o come first?) using modern bongs so me and some other friends made decorum ones.

This is the Medusa.
Basicaly same thing as a sheesha but made to be smoked faster and using a wick to ligth the Sepium instead of a coal, the group then smoke a bowl of 1g together.

I won't ask 'what does it say' because that's just fuckton of stuff but can you translate the best curse there/in hungarian or something?
>>
>>9142176
there is no best.
But here is one sentence from that video:

"A rohadt kurva takonyszagú büdös isten faszát fikázódól gyárihibás selejt bunkó púder geci"
>The rotten whore snott-smelling stinking god's dick do you "fikázódól" you factory defective waste "bunkó" powder semen"
This is the closest translation I can give you, "fikázódól" is basically when you smear the snot all over on something or someone but it's used here in the meaning of giving negative critique. "Bunkó" is closest in the meaning of jerk, but implies that the person has close to zero culture and intelligence and that's where it comes the jerkness, not just because he chosen to be a jerk
>>
>>9142186

Obviously two shields.

This is from the rulebook of the closest running larp near me. I have to join since my last one fizzed out.
>>
>>9142609
LARP rules are so fucking retarded. The only rules should bring whatever you can afford to equip yourself with, point systems are fucking stupid and should be chucked (besides it'll be a fairly accurate LARP if any rich dudes attending are able to run around in full harness without a square inch of flesh exposed.)

If somebody can't fight effectively with a shield, then they lose the LARP simply because they're a floundering dumbass. Not because of skill point horseshit.
>>
>>9142653
>The only rules should bring whatever you can afford to equip yourself with
I doesn't even know where to begin describing how much of a fucking idiot you are if you think that honestly.
I mean at the very least you need two rules for any larp, and what you described is nowhere near those. And that also stretching it
>>
>>9142885
If a person can buy with their earned money or make in their own time any weapon or shield, they should be completely allowed to use it. Whether or not their character is effective with it should depend entirely on whether or not they suck ass at fighting.
>>
>>9142967
I agree with that, that you should be allowed to bring whatever you want plus the kitchen sink as long as it fits the game.
I'm reflecting on the "the only rules part", especially with the introduction "larp rules are so fucking retarded"
>>
>>9142972

here is the problem:
None of have real experience with doing stuff like this, but a lot of us have pieces to make it work.
First problem: You will need one another skillset: how to coordinate all of these people together.
Second problem: there are a lot of people with lot of ideas. you have to make it work so nobody throws a hissy fit and quits during the project, and lets not talk about how much effort will all these different people put in it.
Third problem:when you have all this shit you might as well start to look for a different approach. Like throw out the idea that an on screen person is needed, just cut together pics and videos and do a voice over that, so you don't need an addational person with the screen acting experience, and you can drop the guy who have the camera too if you don't record anything new just reuse stuff on the net. This will obviously make the people with these skills and stuff feel left out. Also quality may or may not drop.
Fourth problem: Let's say we have all the people with the skills, knowledge and equipment. The guy with the screenacting and voice skill lives in the US. Someone in Canada have a camera. From Europe you get the knowledge, etc. How the fuck will you coordinate all this people together?

I could go on...
I'm not saying that it can't be done. Obviously it's possible, people with worse setup made worthwhile stuff. But this is just so much clusterfuck waiting to be bite in your ass that at some point you have to ask: is this really the amount of shit we want to deal with? Do we really want to pour so much time money and effort to make something average?
>>

>>
>>9144063
haha, i thought that is supposed to be a symbol of a rifle scope target
>>
>>9144150
In my experience, Calimacil is the overall best manufacturer around. There are others if you're willing to pay more, or want something different from the "standard"--Hungarian gave his thoughts on another manufacturer last thread, for instance. But if you're asking, you're probably not experienced enough for it to be worth the extra expense. Likewise, there are much cheaper ones out there, but they're usually lower quality and either less safe or won't last as long, or both.

Also remember to check with your larps to make sure they allow Calimacil; some groups, especially in the US, don't like them.

As for what type of sword, that depends entirely on what kind of costume you want it to go with. A rapier imo suggests refinement, poise, that sort of thing, while a sabre, with its wilder-looking fighting style, fits well a person who's a bit of a rogue, plays by his own rules, etc.

HEMAfags:
Are there any Longsword manuals that would fit to your average LARP fighting system? (No grappling, no head hits, etc)
For Sword&Buckler I got I.33 but looking for something that'll fit Longswords as well
>>
>>9146078
no, not really.
But on the other hand if you can hit the head you can also hit the shoulders or upper torso most of the time instead.
About grappling you can just skip those parts.

Your real problem is binding as most larp swords aren't fit for binding and a lot of technique is based on binding
>>
>>9146095
I remember you posting a dussack video a while back that looked like it would work pretty well in larp. Could you post it again, please?
>>
>>9146183
can't do, never posted dussack videos as far as I can remember.

But you probably thinking of a messer video which can work.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHEs2m0IXAk
the Emring ones in the video are the most likely to work as they doesn't use any binding, and very little grappling, if any.
Obviously you can find similar stuff in most codexes, but there are no single codex that is mostly good for larpers, there are only just bits and pieces here and there

Should I take a mini-shield or a poleaxe ?
I'm playing as a medic, but have a "light armor" when I want to fuck shit up or go into battle, but I only had a sword w/pistol, so I couldn't block people, had to dodge. It was kind of annoying to get two shot by some fucker with a polarm 5meters away.

>>
>>9148327
We were thinking about it, but first :
-it's illegal by the rules of the various kingdoms
-we already got in trouble, and our company is already restricted from some politicals things, so we don't want to make our case even bigger
-they use that bullshit excuse of "we just like to dance and shit, notallgypsies"
-they make some great concert, and their womens are beautiful
>>

>-it's illegal by the rules of the various kingdoms
that only means you shouldn't leave any witness

>-we already got in trouble, and our company is already restricted from some politicals things, so we don't want to make our case even bigger
exterminating gypsies aren't a political thing. It's an ideological one. Also, don't leave witnesses, proper genocide.

>-they use that bullshit excuse of "we just like to dance and shit, notallgypsies"
How is that an excuse from ANYTHING?

>-they make some great concert, and their womens are beautiful
>their women are beautiful
>gypsy women
>beautiful
Alright, never mind. I've found the problem why you guys aren't successful
>>
>>9148351
>that only means you shouldn't leave any witness
Too hard, they're everywhere, in every cities. And their camps are in front of three other factions, and right at the exit of a city, so, even at night they are some guards, people dancing drinking and all.

>How is that an excuse from ANYTHING?
See : real life Muslims after any terrorists attacks.
Those fuckers get away with it everytime we try to get the word to the king.

>Alright, never mind. I've found the problem why you guys aren't successful
heh, you wouldn't say that if you saw them mate
>>
>>9148361
>Too hard, they're everywhere, in every cities. And their camps are in front of three other factions, and right at the exit of a city, so, even at night they are some guards, people dancing drinking and all.
If someone sees that you killed someone it isn't necessarily a witness. You have to ask him, pointing your weapon at him, if he seen anything. If the answer is no then he isn't a witness.

>See : real life Muslims after any terrorists attacks.
>Those fuckers get away with it everytime we try to get the word to the king.
Alright, imagine this situation:
You with your whole mercenary gang go up to the gypsies because you want to kill them on the account that they are filthy gypsies. They say "We just like to dance and shit, notallgypsies"
Why would that change your mind if you already decided that they had to die?

>heh, you wouldn't say that if you saw them mate
Yep, I would be too busy stabbing and hacking to say anything.
>>
>>9148372
>If the answer is no then he isn't a witness.
We're talking about at least 50 persons, not one filthy peasant that can join the one you just killed.

>Why would that change your mind if you already decided that they had to die?
It wouldn't, and if it were for me they would already be dead, or in another city. But as I said, it is illegal, would be a too big deal and we're already losing too much people because of the Civil War, we can't afford to get in trouble with the Dwarves, who are in the same location (for the banks).

It's like in 1933, we can't do like the Nazis, they might be a plague and defensless, but if we kill them we'll get in trouble with more people, and we can't afford to do that.
>>
>>9148387
>We're talking about at least 50 persons, not one filthy peasant that can join the one you just killed.
So? You said you guys are a mercenary group. I'm pretty sure you can handle it. And probably most of those guys would help you kill the gypsies. After all that's the sensible solution.

>But as I said, it is illegal
And being a mercenary group and killing people isn't?
> would be a too big deal
Why? I mean those who take the side of the gypsies are gypsies themselves, I'm pretty sure on this probably read it in a book or something.

> losing too much people because of the Civil War
gypsy killing is a wonderful way to train the new recruits

>we can't afford to get in trouble with the Dwarves
They would thank you for killing the gypsies.

> but if we kill them we'll get in trouble with more people, and we can't afford to do that.
Again, that only means you have to use either more force or be more creative. Or both
>>
>>9148387
Just find some reason to kill them then. Lure a gypsy into a trap and make it look like they did it then you have a good cause.
>>
>>9148388
>And being a mercenary group and killing people isn't?
That's why we had a lot of restrictions after what we did. Fucking sorceress imploding a battlefield with magic because she can.

>I mean those who take the side of the gypsies are gypsies themselves
The Dwarves aren't, they're with them because they bring them money, in exchange of military protection.
And they ain't Hungarian, so they don't have a big thing with Roman..Gypsies, they'll hate us if we do that, and if they hate us, their interests will do to, so we'll get the Army and the other things on our asses.
>>
>>9148400
you aren't really a thinker.
The dwaves doesn't like the gypesies. The dwarves like money. Give a lot of money to the dwarves while killing the gypos. You might as well forge an alliance or some shit with them.

I mean do I have to write up a whole battle plan and PR ideas for you how to solve this problem?
What did you guys exactly managed to do anyway apart from getting into deep shit?
>>
>>9148403
>implying we have any money
We're mercenaries, everytime we get gold we either spend it on drinks or on gambling games.

We just don't really care about them tbqh. They're busy bullying the Goblins, and forcing them play kazoo for money these years.

What did we do ? Nothing. Almost.
The Elves and discount Khajiits started to rebel cuz "muh opression, fucking humans race war now", so they target everyone and are targeted by everyone (even the non-humans living in town, as they're collaborating with the Humans) The small Forest is blocked by them.

Barbarians are Barbarians, they don't like us because when a town was attacked, a small group from our camp was there and had two choices : join the Barbarians whom were attacking the town, or the Guard, which was defending it. They choose the latter. They took it as a war declaration.

Pirates are allies with Barbarians, but in top of that, we're allied with the court of the King (to have better and better paid contracts) and their forces are at war 24/24 with Pirates. Some of them are cool and don't care about that, but they're mainly just some drunk tards.

The Empire wants some of the lands. We're not really "at war" with them, but we're a bit forced to go into battle for our king, as we're stationed in their lands. But they don't really like us because see :

We also have a gang of high-sorceress against us because one of them is friend with our boss, she accompanied us into the battlefield, but this whore used a spell that was illegal because our forces were being raped by the enemy.
Since then, the group of sorceress think that we conviced "our" sorceress to use that spell, and the bitch that used it has been executed, so she can't say anything for our defense. The Empire think that too, and, rightly so, hate us because we had an illegal advantage.

Anyway, I'll tell you why we're a bunch of retards that can't get anything done more tommorow if ya want, but I got to sleep.

the gypsies givin money to the dwarves. So the gypsies has money. You are killing the gypsies. Dead men needs no money. Connect the dots.

>What did we do ? Nothing. Almost.

You should going to the battles FOR the money and forced by the CONTRACT.

>You don't have a king and sure as fuck don't fight for him
There is three kings, each one have their lands of course, and there is a no man's land. The peoplethat don't have a king or refuse to have one go there. So, if we don't want to live between the Empire, the bandits and all kind of monsters, we do a shitty battle, go to weddings and do some politics here and there. I'd say it's worth it.

>You should going to the battles FOR the money and forced by the CONTRACT.
We do have money in exchange.

>Let me guess: because it was illegal?
Well, we got mad because, after this, the Empire asked for a big chunk of money for reparations and because it broke rules of war. And, as I said, in top of that we got the sorceresses on our asses.
But, she has been captured when we weren't there. Not that we cared, I'm pretty sure most of us would have liked to be here for the execution.

>Anyway you guys have to get your shit together or get a different job.
It's fun, and we like it even if there's a lot of shit going on.
>>

Can I replace the wooden bolts with larp ones?
>>
>>9148771

From my limited knowledge...

Armour transition from chainmail to plate started happening from the late 12th century (simple coats of plate were available to the rich, but these were still worn over chainmail), with chain fading out by the end of the 14th century (sometimes still seen as faulds, voiders, collars, used in combination with more and more solid plate)

Depending on the relative wealth you want to portray, it's reasonable to still have a hauberk in the early phase of the Hundred Years' War.
Tomb effigies of contemporary knights and nobles, at least, still show full hauberks, though couters and vambraces start appearing around 1300.
>>
>>9149047
>https://www.medievalarchery.com/p-29581-small-pistol-grip-crossbow.aspx

Your larp probably has a draw weight limit. Ask them, then find out what the draw weight on this crossbow is.

No amount of larp arrow will do you any good if the weight limit for your larp is 30lbs and your crossbow's draw weight is 60lbs.
>>
>>9148796
Take a chunk of foam, wrap it in duct tape until it looks like a sex toy and call it good just like 9/10ths of alliance players because alliance is shit.
>>
>>9148771
>>9149052

While some elements of plate were very slowly introduced in the 13thC, it's not until you get into the 14thC that Transitional Armour really gets going and not until around the the start of the 15thC that what you'd call proper full plate appears.

That's the timeline for the most cutting edge protection. Maille continued to be worn in most of Europe at least into the 16thC both under plate and as the primary armour in it's own right for lighter troops. In Eastern Europe and Ireland maille was extensively used into the 17thC.

Outside of Europe maille continued to be used even up to the 20thC. In India and it's environs maille either on it's own or with intergrated plates was the primary armour style. Maille was also used in North and West Africa for centuries.

Basically a normal t-shirt of maille will cover the Romans onward through the medieval period and deep into the Renaissance. You'll get between another 100 to 300 years if you portray cultures other than Western Europe, and most Eurasian cultures used it at one point or another.

The other great thing, is that you can wear it with other armour. Wear it on it's own to one event to be a Viking, then add plate arm protection and a jupon to be a knight at Crecy. It's a solid base that can be customised to make a silly number of kits across multiple continents and 2000 years.

this
For example in the UK the Lorien trust [who run the gathering lrp events]limit the draw of a bow to less than 30 lbs ata 28” draw. Crossbows are also limited to 30lbs draw weight[although on top of that they are safety checked at the checkin and there is also a bow competency check that new onwers have to take before they can use them at the events, which if they pass will get them a card as proof [and refs will check for them especially at the main battle on monday and at random times, like a gun licence].

What is the fighting system at your LARP and how much emphasis does it have on the theatrical aspect of the fight?
I'm thinking of writing/filming a guide that'll help people improve in that aspect but I don't know how common or needed it is.
>>
>>9149840
Low numbers, while still having enough mechanical structure to allow people to do magic or be "tanks" if they want to. I think it's got a nice balance between forcing you to git gud in order to be a good fighter, and having some mechanics that people with legitimate physical disabilities can lean on.

It doesn't really focus on the "theatrical," though--combat tends to be either quick and dirty, or a long drawn-out slug-fest where you have to claw for every inch of progress.

As for specific advice for your guide, here's my thoughts.
>There is no one right way to do a combat system, but you have to know what you want to accomplish with it.
>Know what the effect of each rule you add is going to be.
>Generally, the more complex your combat rules are, the less important skill is going to be.
>This is likely to lead to a system where older, higher level characters will have a large advantage over newer characters, possibly even being effectively invincible to them.
>Similarly, a simple combat system will usually make skill more important.
>This will lead to a game where new, low level characters are fully capable of beating experienced ones if the player is a good enough--or clever enough--fighter.

Parrying/dodging/other calls that let you avoid a hit after it hits you probably deserve their own section, so here's what I have to say about that.
>Having parries does not make your system bad, but they are very hard to balance.
>Parries tend to be the best choice in any system where they're easy to get.
>So a good rule of thumb is, if you have parries in your system, do not make them easy to get, and make them come with a drawback (break the arm you parried with, for example).
>>
>>9149840
trust based. You act out what happens, no numbers involved. Usually this makes the fight very short if you don't have any kind of armor

One of my older latex weapons is starting to show some discoloration, from being out in the sun so much I'd guess, and greenish streaks are starting to appear. Is 'inplay relations' a thing that exists in your LARPs? It sounds very general so I'll clarify:
Basically in some of the bigger LARPs here that has FB groups, people post some teaser (Basically a short paragraph that gives the idea of their character) and ask if people want to have relations with them, as in, knowing each other's characters before the game itself (AKA we fought each other a couple of times, you stole my wife, we're drinking buddies ETC. Some are more complicated than that.)
Personally I'm not really into it but wanted to see if that's a local thing or people do it in other places too.
>>
>>9153191
Yeah, of course it's a thing. Characters don't just magically appear in the game world as adults with no prior history. And it's a million times better to have history with an actual PC rather than some NPC in backstory that will more than likely never appear in game.
Character ties make a character more believable. Some of the best roleplay moments I've had have been catching up with friends, or old lovers during the quieter times of the game.
>>
>>9153191
I haven't seen anybody in my group do that, but I don't think they'd get any funny looks if they wanted to try. More often, we get new players joining in groups and having established relations within that group--for instance, when a friend and I joined, we made our characters traveling companions to explain why a would-be knight was hanging out with a creepy plant man.
>>
>>9153191
not a thing in this country, seen it at Drachenest, and in other bigger games it happens but usually not on the small ones.

Over here, it mostly happens at group level. Our band ranges from 10 to 20 people from larp to larp and when we write backstories, of course we include our group members. Sometimes they're IG lifelong friends, sometimes they're touch and go, but there's always something. It would feel very awkward to come into a larp with a whole band of fresh characters that work together but have never seen one another before that larp.

Just got back from the last ever Odyssey. Much violence, politics, and intriguing was had. Character died in the last great fight and is now partying with Orcus in the Roman Underworld.

I need to make a Chinese looking armour. Ehat are some of the easier options I have? Doesn't have to be 100% historically accurate since it's a fantasy game.
(I have some skilled friends to help but can't make those strange plates like pic related)

Most types of armor that look typically Chinese fall into the "plates of metal attached to a cloth backing" category. So for a fantasy game where you don't have to be strictly accurate, any type of appropriately stylized coat of plates, scale, lamellar, or chain should work fine.

There's also always studded leather stuff like this, but I'm not really a fan of that in principle since it's almost certainly not something that was ever actually worn.

So is Drachenfest fought with latex weapons?

And if so, where can i get a latex-Katzbalger?
>>
>>9154311
An authentic one? Nowhere. There are several versions, but all of them have a pointy end and most are way to long.
Calimacil has a version that is at least the right length.
Otherwise for a Landsknecht a Schweizer Degen or any appropriate Dagger is your best bet.
>>
>>9154311
Have a look for latex weapon makers near you and see if they do custom work.
>>
>>9154311
Drachenfest uses larp weapons that means boffers, latex ones, injected foam ones and the other variations.

About latex katzbalger, every bigger larp shop has one. Goldhammer has a few relly nice although pricey katzbalgers for example

There's that armour that basically looks like a reverse brigandine-Cloth that on top of it has medium-sized metal plates. Does anyone know what is it called?

Studded leather like that is usually just the costume department's take on a brigandine, but easier and cheaper to make. Also easier for actors to wear.

Where ya headed, anon?
And does it have to be Chinese, or is it grab bag Asian?
Anyway, one thing to keep in mind is that modern pop Asian armour depictions are based off of their paintings, which take a lot of liberty with reality, with more "suitable looking" crap added to it. It's really no different from looking at dungeons and dragons artwork and deciding that, yes, that's what armour looks like.
I'm afraid reality (pic related) is a lot less snazzy. A shitload easier to make, though.

Of course, it can be made to look snazzy with the right material backing, colour, patterning, etc.. And here are all the seperate pieces in a modern reproduction.

Now, I'm mostly showing the Chinese take on a brigandine, but you have other options. As the anon above said, they had their own forms of scalemail, lamellar, chainmail, etc.

So if you are looking to make an armour you already own into something more Chinese looking, you can easily do so, even if it's plate.
What gives the Chinese armour its distinct look in pop art (to me, at least) are its shoulders and upper arms.

Due to technological differences, you won't find tight, shaped pauldrons or rerebraces.
Instead you get these wide, oblong pieces that are folded loosely around arms and shoulders, usually in layers so that one set covers the upper arm and the above set covers the shoulders (sometimes the set that covers the shoulders also serves as a gorget).
This also holds true for the leg armour, which is more or less a split skirt, rather than seperate legs.

Now, I'm making a hodgepodge of eras, dynasties, technology and fantasy, but you did say not 100% accurate.

I woke up 2 or 3 hours ago from a 30 or so hours of sleep.

I sadly cannot tell everything we did but we went full mangy dogs.

There is also a high possibility of merging with 2 other guilds who share the same mentality and become a warband.

No land, no possessions other than the boots we can provide on the field.
aprox 60 veterans who just want to make sure that the sides are even by joining the one with less people so we can have fun.

this Bico is 3rd position.
It was fun but there is no doubt now, Bico is a touristic thing now.

I don't understand what do you mean by "Where ya headed"
And I might be able to slide with 'asian', although chinese is preferrable.
Is the armour you posted basically a brigandine?
>>
>>9154881
>Studded leather like that is usually just the costume department's take on a brigandine, but easier and cheaper to make. Also easier for actors to wear.
Yes, I'm aware. It's just that to anybody who knows what a proper brigandine looks like, it's clearly not one. You can get away with that onscreen, but at a larp where people will probably be more familiar with armor distinctions, not so much.
>>
>>9155519
Not him, but yes, that's what most brigandine looks like from the outside, so it's safe to assume it is.

The wiki page for Chinese armor should give you a broad sense of where to start. It mentions "mountain pattern" armor, which is very distinctly Chinese, although whether it ever really existed or not is disputed (as the above anon mentioned, they took creative liberties with their art a lot). But if you want something that will immediately stand out as Chinese, that may be a good one to go for.

>Gropey is majestic
Im a shameful newb. Who is, and how majestic can someone called "gropey" be? I have heard mixed stories.
>>
>>9155798
Gropey is a namefag who does SCA, HMB, and LARPs and he's very knowledgable, arguably one of the most knowledgable visitors of those threads. Worked in museums and such. IIRC he basically looks something like this:
Pretty fat, large build, long hair and sideburns. Someone here will probably have pictures of him and will post them if they see your question.

I might just be skewed by having seen actual fat people, but he's chubby, not fat. His thick build and preference for tighter clothes doesn't help. Looks legit strong as fuck. Not a bad looking face if you don't mind the boxer's nose.

Anyone got pics?

Despite the relatively low chance of anons on here randomly bumping into one another, we still occasionally ask, since I'm hearing much ado about a new Asian themed larp around here.

Its when you turn everyday tools and utility items in to armor and weapons.

We have a couple of tripfag bucket knights but I haven't seen any of that in quite a while now.
