Question. What do you call those LARPS where you just fight each other with boffer type swords and there is fuck all story?

I don't call those things larps. I call them battle games or boffer tags, depending if I want to be vulgar or not

Where do you find them? I watched Role Models the other day and the fictional LAIRE game they have there really looked like a lot of fun. I want something that I can do casually and doesn't have a bunch of period Nazi's breathing down my neck about something not being ' right'.

I'd like to play someone that is like Letho in The Witcher.
Would having a character specializing on killing Kings and high rank politicians for money would work ? I guess it would be kind of boring after a while. (and yes, I know Letho is a Witcher and that's not their tasks but Letho is special)

Question for all you larpfags:
How much canvas yardage and what dimensions do you think you would be required for a comfy period tent? I'm thinking i would like a small round pavilion tent, a Viking tent might be OK if the pavilion takes too much fabric. The ones that have a wood frame and bar in the center, then come down diagonally.
>>
We run a weekly larp and are trying to upgrade and revamp it.

The tents and tables and everything are incredible, but is that a periodic event (rather than weekly)? Or even a weekend-long thing at a privately owned property?
(We use a wildlife preserve. So unfortunately we can't have just tents there constantly. We have a larp day each week and that's it.)

I had a conundrum last weekend at the local uber-shitty boffer tag game my friends dragged me too.

>Be a viking
>Go on newbie mod given by a dickass nobleman to clear his castle of goblins.
>Nobleman offers us 2 silver coins a piece
>As we approach the castle, we are attacked by skeletons that come out of his yard.
>Easy pickings, but this was not part of the arrangement.
>Reach castle gates and get assaulted by zombies as we open them.
>Defeat zombies and get inside castle.
>See 8-odd goblins, 1 troll, and the Nobleman's brother who hired the goblins to secure his rightful seat.
>Turns out our real goal was to deal with a dynastic dispute by killing the noble's brother.
>We kill him, but the mod was worth closer to 1 gold per PC.
>I confront the noble about this and he refuses to cough up more money.
>My character is furious at the noble and decides that he is not strong enough to protect his own property.
>I sneak attack him for a decent amount of damage.
>Noble's player pauses the game and tells me that the noble is far stronger than I am and that I will ruin the mod for the other, younger players.
>Not wanting to ruin it for everyone else, we decide to rewind the scene to right before I attack him.
>Noble then throws our silver at our feet and expects us to grovel and beg for the money.
>I spit at his feet and walk off.

Should I have stuck with my decision and killed the quest giver, or was I being That Guy?
>>
>>9164395
Sounds like he was trying to guilt you out of hurting his character. Doing something unexpected isn't "ruining the mod"--it's creating plot! Imagine if you, as a new character, get underpaid for a job by some smarmy noble, and one of the other characters decides he's not going to take it and gives said smarmy noble what-for. Well, that player has just made everybody there think, and has turned a boring new player mod into something the new players can now use to inform their roleplaying for the rest of the game.

Since you left it open-ended by leaving, you can still get some good roleplay out of it. Talk to the other characters who were on that mod, see what they think about it. You've got the seeds of some potentially dissatisfied characters that you can rally to your in-game cause here.
>>
>>9164300
Hey Gropes. Thats a good look for you.
>>
>>9163980
What do they do, technical stuff aside? Like is there any way they make it more fun to learn or roleplay it?
>>
>>9164757
they give basic training and advanced ones too, mostly drills and stuff, you can also learn character skills from them allegedly, never tried it myself. Basically it's what the name says, it's a guild for fighters, you can get into it, probably there are quests there too, and hierarchy and whatnot.
Also it's in the middle of the city where stuff happens all the time.

You're still missing it sport. No one can tell you how much fabric you need until you know exactly what you're making and the size of the frame.

Think of it like this: "I need to know how much fabric to make a gown?" You need to know what kind of gown exactly, and the measurements of the person.

Going to a LARP in a few weeks and I'll be playing a cleric. I thought painting his God's symbol on his robes would be a nice touch given the aesthetic I'm going for (late Roman/Ottoman Empires with some arabian influences). I plan on using spray fabric paint and have already made a vector graphic of the image (pic related), but I need a sturdy material to actually make the stencil. I'm thinking foam core board would work, but I'd like some more opinions on this. Pls advise?

cheapest version is a 3x3 meter canvas, with a few holes or laces or whatever on the sides.
You can put it up with rope and one stick or more stick and rope or just rope and trees, etc.

You can use bigger ones for bigger stuff or just put together similar 3x3 canvases and tie them together.
>>
>>9165988
Then you would well know that The Macedonians are northern Greek (and slavic), and a completely seperate city state/culture than the souther Greek City states. "Greece" and "Greek culture" don't exist that far back, except as a loose amalgamation of ethnically similar, but vastly different cultures... Especially the cultural shift that would happen in the time frame between the two armours you picture.

...But that is all completely moot, as the top left of >>9165056
is jewelry, and the top right and bottom left are the Derveni Pectoral, which is a100 years out of date Thracian funeral armour based on Scythian design, compared to the more contemporary linothorax.

Antiquity was my bag for a long time bro, and figuring out required gorget coverage to meet SCA requirements was a big issue, requiring me to do a lot of research. Outside of a few slightly extended cuirasses, and the Dendra panolpy, the greeks just had no stock in armouring the neck, as far as we know.

>>9166049
I think he wants like, a tent-tent, not a lean to.
>>
>>9166130
he can do that with a 3x3 canvas, it's just more sticks and brain power
>>
>>9166130
I only used those pictures since the museums in the southern peleponesos wouldn't let me take pictures in the museum. My armor set up is more northern oriented with the thracian helmet and longer pteruges anyways so the gorget would fit. The top left is not jewelery, in the museum itself they said that it was gold covered iron and leather and would be fine for battle, they had a ceremonial one as well which was much thinner. They also had another 2 with scales similar to the bottom left made of iron and leather. The top right is from Thessaloniki, which has ancient Greek roots.

The greeks did have neck armor. The problem is that they are in museums where you can't take pictures and are labeled wrongly in English but in greek they are "throat protection"

But like man they didnt use it a whole lot all over ancient greece, but some people had access to it. I mean there's tons of stuff that isn't really common with the amor but some people did. Like some people had 3 rows of pteruges (in the museum of vergina) or different sized pteruges. Hell theres even a depiction of a corinthian helmet with some wig on top of it. You got some armor with rectangular scales and rounded ones on the same armor. You got armor made of linen and leather.

There's no depictions of people wearing the gorget but we have found examples so they did have them. All I'm saying is that it's not completely wrong to have a Greek in 350 bc with a gorget.

Pic related wig thing on top of helmet, from getty villa museum. Although maybe it was real or maybe the artist just made it up, ya feel.

>I will hold you to it.
just for the record, some people are still waiting for you to post the sources on Italian fashion that says that it was indeed common practice to wear undersized cloths.
>>
>>9167512
>However, in the second half of the century, courtiers are often shown, if they have the figure for it, wearing nothing over their closely tailored cotehardie. A French chronicle records: "Around that year (1350), men, in particular noblemen and their squires, took to wearing tunics so short and tight that they revealed what modesty bids us hide. This was a most astonishing thing for the people"

Continuation of chronicle of Guillaume de Nangis, Archives Nationales, Paris. Quoted in: Fernand Braudel, Civilization and Capitalism, 15th-18th Centuries, Vol 1: The Structures of Everyday Life," p. 317, William Collins & Sons, London 1981

I wasn't following that whole debacle, but the above text does sound like a longwinded way of saying it was fashionable to wear undersized clothes. Also French instead of Italian, but eh.
>>
>>9167610
in my eyes, tight fitting and underside cloths aren't the same. Although my main interest is 16th century and landsknechts so that obviously makes me a little biased in this question.

That said, 1350 is the time when really tight fitted cloths starts to became popular (except for hoses, tight fit there were nearly always popular to some extent)
And the "modesty bids us hide" is also doesn't really mean automatically that the cloth is undersized, it can be just in a different, new fashion.

I can't see myself actually doing the rp part of all this because i'm too nervous/shy, but i would like to try making and wearing stuff. What is the type of event called where people do that but don't have to act things out? I'm in southern England if anyone knows of anything like that.

Thanks in advance, you all seem preddy cool
>>
>>9172819
there is no proper guide, the ones that exists are either shit or very specific.

Also you can go to larps even if you are shy of acting just make a character that is very clsoe to yourself.
About specific event maybe Readmiww can help you when he drops by

just post the questions anyway who gives a fuck.

Also, go try a regular larp Nervous/shy fades for me once I don the plate

Epic Armory is pretty bad, yeah. The main issue is that their stuff is made from cheap materials and is one-size-fits all. You know the joke about how one-size-fits-all is actually one-size-fits-none? That's doubly true for armor, since it's extremely uncomfortable wearing metal plates that don't fit well. Add to that the cheap materials, and their armor is just not very durable. It won't get bent from being hit with a foam sword, of course, but it means they might get damaged from falling onto hard ground or the like.

Ok, thanks for the responses! Some questions:
Can you go to events and just watch? I probably wouldn't want to jump right in so it would be nice to just check them out
Since the first things i make aren't going to be the greatest, how much do people worry about quality at these things?
What about historical accuracy, or is that more of a personal preference?
Any good forums/websites you'd recommend for beginners?
Anything that you consider to be vital information/things that people should know/necessary items or etiquette?
Is there usually a good range of ages and gender?
>>
>>9172877
>Can you go to events and just watch?
not really, but you can get non-combatant roles or NPC roles or just go there and do nothing with the possibility that someone interacts with you even then.

As a first timer you doesn't have to be super perfect. Everyone started someone. What counts if you willing to improve or not.

Historical accuracy goes out of the window. Anyone who calls you out about that on a larp is a retard and should get a shovel to the face.
I mean it's nothing wrong it it's important for someone but it should be a private matter if you want to be historical accurate or not and you shouldn't really force that on others.

I can't even recommend forums/websites wholeheartedly for "experts" but that's me being picky as fuck.

don't be an asshole, but you already covered that. Be willing to improve and look at things from other viewpoints, try out different kind of games.

usually anything above 16 years are okay sometimes it's more sometimes it's less. Sometimes under 18 persons need some paper from their parents sometimes they simply need supervisors, sometimes none of that.
About gender, both are fine, anyone who says otherwise needs a shovel to the face too.
>>
>>9172877
Depends on the game, most will let you watch.

As long as you don't look like shit. you can buy/make things pretty cheap and not look awful. A simple tunic/pants/leather belt can look good
Depends on the game again. Fantasy games don't generally care
Go to your larps forums. easiest way to see what people are like. Also, lots of games have sponsors who can helps you through the whole process.
don't be an autist. Take a deep breath and a shot of something. Understand that you are pretend dressup in the woods. In the stories you make, you will not always be the hero or make it out alive. Thats part of the fun

Yeah. Age range is usually between 18-40 with a grandpa/grandma thrown in more guys than girls but still plenty of both at least at the games i go to

Get Dressed For Battle is a good one. They're UK-based, I think, so shipping to Canada might be on the expensive side, but looking at their breastplates, you should still be within your budget.
Lord of Battles is a manufacturer that I personally like, the quality isn't quite as good as GDFB but it's still well within acceptable range for any boffer/foam/latex game. A little cheaper too.

Green Cloaks is a Sci-fi/Military system based in SE England and is really good for newbies if that tickles your fancy. Monstering is free and would allow you to just make kit and fight as generic mook number 5 without RP if you really didn't want to.

The World Went Dark is a Post Apocalyptic system with some really fantastic pieces of kit. Again, crewing is free and can involve minimal role play if that's your style.

Its true that more east larp are more brutal? I live in Czech and our larp fights are agresive, we have no shitty-latex but wood with cutted carpets. You wouldnt go here without armor. Some unfunctional fantazy armor is not welcomed here. What your fights?
>>
>>9175834
>I tried looking local and couldn't find anything
Well proper places that doesn't cost a leg and a half and isn't mass produced shit are usually hiding pretty well so it's understandable.

>Ukraine bad?
Varies a lot. Like the qualities are all over the place. But the look of that armor doesn't filled me with confidence. I mean it's obviously machined.

Plus it's 1mm thick, that means it's STARTED from 1mm and the various forming processes makes it even thinner. This means you can probably bend it by hand.
Then again this is also true for half of the larp-shop armours you can buy, which are usually more expensive.

The reasons why this is cheaper is probably because work-hours and materials tend to be cheaper in eastern europe, so it's PROBABLY has the same qualities as your standard larp-shop armour but I shittalk those too
>>
>>9175845
I wouldn't use the word brutal.
I mean at the end of the day we all fight with padded sticks... well most of the time.

It's simply that in eastern europe what considered safe is different, for various reasons.

I didn't realize that was really thin.
is there any suggestions/guides for buying armor?
I honestly know so little and am worried I'll drop money on trash.
in canada if that matters.
>>
>>9176013
well if you will use it for larp only then thechnically 1mm is good enough IF you care for it and look after and "protect it" That means not throwing to the ground where others can sit on it or stuff like that, and also being careful with transportation. It won't deform just by touching it or not even from an average hit from a larp weapon, but from a harder hit or if you actually want to deform it you will succeed.
About buying armour: it's a complicated matter. Depends on how much money you want to drop on it, what you will use it for, and stuff like that.
If Frenedian drops by he can give you more advice on the local sellers, but usually you want the local armoursmiths if there are any.

But the thing is that larp tier armours can degrade and not that comfortable, most of the time this is true even if it's made for your size.
That is, if we compare them to functional or authentic armours, which are usually at least twice the amount of money than the one you linked, although varies from seller to seller

I used the spear mainly overhand like pic related (but pointed lower, toward the legs), or tucked under my arm for stability. In formations, the overhand way of holding it meant I could poke at enemies farther away with the spear while using the sword to ward away blows and punish opponents who tried to get inside my reach; when the formation broke and we were in more one-on-one combat, having a large pole in the off-hand made for a passable pseudo-shield that I could also use to attack, helping to prevent whoever I was fighting from getting too close.

I still wouldn't recommend it over a large shield for formation combat, but as an alternative it's not bad.

Hey. Need an advice.
There was an "entity" at the last LARP that was wandering around, after seeing it too much times around me, I started to interrest myself in it.
So, I searched what it was and found that it was a little girl emprisoned into an old and tired corpse because she had too much power or some shit ; the only way to talk to her or make her follow you is to have some sort of mask. Luckily, I have one and I wore it almost all the time - maybe why it was following me around - but I only discovered it at the end of the LARP.
The thing is, there are a group of Pirates that took her a bit before the end of the LARP, I kind of want to "steal" her back from them next time. So, my question is : should I try and risk myself to took her back, knowing that she was taken by force by the Pirates (so mayble she'll be happy to get out of there) and that I some thiefs and assassins to help me ?

That sounds like it's more a question of what your character would do. Is he/she the type to get attached to an NPC like that, in character? Without any of us being familiar with your game, it's hard to make a judgment call if what you're asking is whether they're too powerful or the like.

What do you guys think of the latest Sarah and Gabriel Chrisman drama?

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2016/08/17/couple-thrown-out-of-bc-tourist-attraction-for-wearing-victorian-era-garb.html

A Washington state couple says they knew they’d face the occasional unanticipated challenge when they began adopting a Victorian-era lifestyle seven years ago, but they never expected their decision to get them tossed out of an internationally renowned tourist attraction.

Sarah and Gabriel Chrisman of Port Townsend said they were shocked last week when they arrived to Butchart Gardens just north of Victoria to celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary and were turned away after being told their period clothing, which they wear on a daily basis, was forbidden.

The couple said they bought tickets for admission and tea on Aug. 9 in advance of their three-day visit to Vancouver Island and had double-checked the rules posted on the gardens’ website, which listed “costumes” as banned.

“We never would have thought that that would apply to us. We don’t think of what we wear as costumes,” Gabriel said in a phone interview.

that article leaves out their craziness from their blog. That woman's book is so insufferable. There's a part where she rants and raves against THE RUDENESS OF MODERN MAN because she wore an antique fraying dress with a train on a public bus and someone accidentally stepped on the train, which ripped.

Hey, this is a HEMA question, but since they moved the HEMA threads from /asp/ to /his/, the quality has dropped like a fucking rock. I thought some of you guys cross-train in HEMA and might be able to answer this.

This is a really stupid question, I know, but what's the difference, in the German longsword school, between a guard and a ward?

I thought a guard was a position you moved into to stop a line of attack before your opponent has actually moved (he's in Right Von Tag, I assume a guard of Left Ochs and close - or guard - the high outside line). Meanwhile a ward is "warding" away an attack already in progress (he's in Right von Tag and I'm in right Pflug. He makes an oberhau to my left shoulder. I move to Left Ochs to "ward" away his attack).

I don't remember where I picked up this interpretation, and google and Wikinauer are being less than helpful. What do you consider to be the difference?
>>
>>9180723
>what's the difference, in the German longsword school, between a guard and a ward?
translation.

I mean every codex and master use the words differently, most of them doesn't even have the same number of guards or the in the same position.
>>
>>9180723
A guard is a position in which you hold your sword, that serves to "passively" protect part of your body from attacks and sets you up to perform certain strikes/wards, which are used to wound an enemy or actively intercept strikes.

Hey all. I'm new to LARP, and the one I go to is probably closer to a battlegame than a real LARP, since the RP is second to the fighting. Anyway, I wanna make an Uruk Hai shield from LOTR. I'm pretty shit with my hands (haven't made anything since high school), so I made a "dry run" out of cardboard, and it came out OK. Not great, but not horrible. Paint is drying as we speak.

Anyway, I wanna make a shield that can be used in combat. I've seen people using foam, like from yoga mats. What is the name of this foam? Like if I walk into a craft store, what do I ask for? Also, any other materials I could make a shield out of?

The shield will probably be coreless, by the way.
>>
>>9181142

You can glue several layers of blue camp foam together. You can find it at sporting goods stores or at Walmart. Sometimes people will use a plastic snow sled as a base and then put several layers on top of that.

Talk to some of the people that you LARP with and find out how their shields are made. Every LARP has different rules about what is considered safe to use on the battlefield.

Probably. the restrictions are just latex weapons are not allowed to do thrust attacks. Making a latex spear useless
For thrusts to be allowed you need an open celled tip so its softer.
The cloth probably isn't allowed but I can just tape over.
Thanks

Cloth is honestly the best covering imo. A tape covering has several issues depending on what kind of tape you use. Duct tape hardens in the cold and can actually hurt, and tends to form ridges that scrape if you're not careful. Hockey tape is what I'd recommend if you go the tape route, specifically Howie's cloth tape. The reason cloth is is more highly recommended, though, is that it's far easier to clean and maintain. A cloth slip-cover can be removed and replaced easily, doesn't leave a residue, and most importantly, is safer--unlike tape, it won't compress the foam underneath it.

As for your question about making a boffer spear, I follow a modified version of this guide. I only use two layers of foam, formed into two "boxes" around the pole as shown; unless you plan to hit very hard with the edge, layer 3 is unnecessary. If you want to carve the head a bit to make it look more blade-like, though, then the third layer will give you more room to do that. I recommend 1-inch closed-cell polyethylene (http://www.foambymail.com/PE2-_1/polyethylene-foam-sheets-2-2lb.html) for this. I also tape a quarter or two over the front end of the pole using aforementioned hockey tape before adding any foam to the stabbing tip. This helps prevent the pole from poking through the foam over time (it can do so very quickly otherwise, like over the course of a single weekend).

Comment too long, continued...

Before you attach the tip, carve the head into the shape you want while keeping the front end flat. Then attach the tip--at least 2-3 inches of open-cell foam, please for the love of God not half a nerf football like the guide says--and cut it to your preferred shape. Make sure to leave an inch or two of space at the bottom of the open-cell tip to tape it securely to the blade, and you probably want to round the point of the foam off a bit, if not just leave it flat. Most larps' problem with points isn't stiffness, it's the tendency for small points to get into somebody's eye, so leave a flat or rounded area about 2 inches across at the tip.

For poles, I recommend the fiberglass poles from bandshoppe (http://www.bandshoppe.com/category-s/188.htm) in whatever length you like. Don't use them for a one-handed sword though, they're too wide for the kind of grip you need with those.

>>9181574
It works fine for transport, nothing really edgy or ridiculous about it. Just make sure you have it drawn and ready if you expect to go into combat, otherwise you're liable to be taken off-guard and defenseless.

Picture 100% unrelated this time.

I'm gonna set up a new company for my guild, it will basically just be for the auxilliary services and roles in camp named "The Quarter" or just "Tross", and my creativity about creating a company icon for it is pretty dry.

Best I could come up with is pick related, any suggestions here or will this be easy enough to relate it with?

My role is the guild's quartermaster by the way, I will mostly be the only one wearing it but simplicity is important to match the other companies icon themes as well as for ease of production in case it gets popular.

Since this is the thread with the most clue about historical costume; when did most medieval women stop wearing head-coverings?

Christian modesty meant that women out and about wore wimples or headscarves that covered most or all of the hair, with the main exceptions being young girls and the worst sort of hussy. This was true for the Early and High Middle Ages, but when did it become acceptable for respectable women to go bareheaded in public?

One way is to give your character a definite past. Spend some time to figure out the whys and hows of your characters. Then think on how this past affects his current situation and his decision making. This sounds as simple as it can be, but you'd be surprised how often people don't do this and just wing it. This will often have the character end up a clone of you (not that there is anything wrong with that). Being someone else takes planning.
The last LARP I'd been to another player actually stimulated this well. We were dicing in the inn, and most didn't have or wanted to put up money. So he proposed laying the equivalent of a truthspell, and we diced for questions. The most ridiculous sorts of questions came up, but it really helped people think of their characters people.

Once you figure out your character, it's about acceptance. Acting within your character will handicap you in some ways, forcing you to make choices you OOCly know will hurt your character, or having a clash of personalities (despite many LARPs having a competitive side, I notice larpers are very non confrontational on the whole and will avoid playing their character to avoid even IC agruments). Nobody can or will force you, but sometimes you just have to eat the loss if you want to be a character.

Thirdly, you need to get comfortable with making an ass of yourself. You have your character, you have your opinions, your wants, your ideas, your contributions. You might be wrong. You might be painfully wrong. You might be singled out. You might fail. But it doesn't matter. It's all about the story. You might be too shy to really play your character and mumble your convictions to some local lord, then you'll go overboard and overact and your praising of some deity might turn off that deity. You'll find your middle ground if you try and take the punches. You paid good money to play a game, so play.
>>
>>9184851
I play characters that share certain real life personality traits. Therefore when you are tired, stressed, drunk, under-pressure etc, certain parts of your character will seem intuitive rather than forced. Playing something completely off-type as it were is a challenge that some find rewarding, but others find it a pain after a while. Especially if the character lasts for ages.
>>
>>9183986
>This was true for the Early and High Middle Ages, but when did it become acceptable for respectable women to go bareheaded in public?

My assumption on this subject is late 19th when it became more acceptable and normal to not cover up your hair entirely and female hats became a thing unlike before, and you wouldn't get an inquiry from the local priest and asylum headmaster if you got caught in public without something on your head. Middle class and rich women still almost always had hats on until the 1930's when going out in public, which you can confirm by looking at outdoor cafes in Paris when googling a time period.

So I would say the cultural norm to not entirely cover your hair in Europe stopped in 1930, earlier or later in some regions but as a whole mainstream thingy.

slightly unrelated but I realized that the older you get the more you need to work on your backstory. I mean there was more time your character had to spend somewhere

Either, but I want to avoid anything too cheap-ish looking. Avoiding organza, low quality lace, etc. I especially want something lined and able to keep its shape. The bigger, the better. Hopefully with matching wristcuffs, too. Whites, golds, or blacks, or any combination of those colours would be grand.

Thats about as historic as latex, and very poorly designed. You suspend from points either on the doublet/pourpoint or directly off the hose or padded cuisse.

>>9185938
The secret to keeping the shape is startching the hell out of it.

The secret santa box was pretty straight forward:
*a bunch of nip bottles
*a metal joy buzzer
*whoopie cushion
*bags of cotton candy and circus peanuts
*some copies of old show posters from several groups I performed with
*"the man behind the nose" the Bozo the clown biography
*Mehron and Ben-Nye makeup

And a few other odds and ends.

Not /terrible/, if it has decent stretch, and linen and cotton hosen DO exist.... But they stretch out and wear out very quickly.

Try a wool blend.

What's the best, or most memorable character you ever came across in a LARP?
>>
>>9187936
It was an effect rather than a specific character. It was a one-shot random NPC with very little going on with him.

Except part of the description was he had a skin condition.

The NPC had coated his face in school glue (the non-toxic kind) and would, while talking to you, peel bits of it off and eat them.

It was an amazingly disgusting effect done very, very easily.

Boo.

I'm in the process of working on a wolf mask on a commission. Here's a WIP of the sculpt.
I've also done a more traditional werewolf.

I prefer doing sculpture and making a mould and doing cast rubber (latex, silicone, whatever). It'll always look better than paper mache or whatever other random shit you throw together.

When it comes to sculpture the biggest secret is proportion- you can't just throw a wolf head on a human face and expect it to line up right. The nose in particular looks stunted and squished when it's not done right. Think about proportion- take photos of your face from the front and in profile and draw a mask shape on top of it. Keep going until what you draw looks *right* on your face.
>>
>>9187987
We have a player in my game who plays an undead; he accomplishes roughly the same peeling-skin effect with oatmeal.

>>9188466
That also works- and probably tastes better than the white glue.

>>9188553
Personally I don't use any fake fur- all the fur pattern is just sculpted into the mask (look at the ears). I tried doing full fur laying on a animal mask once and it ruined all the details of the sculpture. Plus it's way harder to keep clean for LARP. At this point I only do fur laying for animals and creatures with a tiny bit of fur, like spiders. The process of laying the fur down makes it look kinda gross which is perfect for them.

Here's the WIP shot of the actual werewolf I did a year or two ago.

A (possibly half) ogre who has been in our system for ages. I'd sat down with him around the campfire and we were talking about how my character had unusual equipment etc. and he mentioned a time in his life that someone asked him about why he never had new equipment.

>"How does new stuff happen."
"you buy it with money."
>"Don't have money. Don't know what money is."
"but you get paid to go out and do adventures."
>"What these?" *holds out giant paw of coins*
"Yes! Wait thats 100 crowns. How did you eat if you haven't spent it?"
>"Me take. Noone stop."
he then explains that the other adventurer teaches him about coins and that they can be traded for materials, items as well as weapons and armour..... this lead to a post on the forums asking for equipment drawn in ink and paper and then scanned in of a gold coin and an arrow of armour etc.

Credit where credit is due to dedication.

I don't have much experience with classical armours but for renaissance armour properly closing it means you have a little less breathing space but way straighter back.
it's still far from being restrictive but you will feel it in the first few minutes after you put it on and after the few minutes when you get it off.
Then again with renaissance stuff the doublet also works as a corset too to help this thing (not a Victorian era corset thought)
