The bottom ones are being debated. I have a Hanamaru wig but I'm not sure which outfit to do, or if I should wait on future card sets. I have a friend that does You and I was wondering if she wanted to do the new sunflower event cards, but she hasn't said anything yet.

Trying to decide on who to cosplay and suddenly, I realize why everyone does a bunch of different idol cosplays.

I should clarify but it's holographic spandex. It's more of a navy color actually, but when light hits it you can see the shapes.

I already mentioned this in the Otakon thread but I forgot my jacket for my Love Live cosplay (Valentine's Nozomi) and I feel shitty about it ... however, given the humidity in the area, would it be fine if I went without? I have literally everything else with me, I was just a dumbass and forgot the jacket.

Ensemble Stars was the hardest since I don't crossplay. I'm also not into Aikatsu or PriPara so i just picked what i liked there.

This was really fun!! Honestly the only series here I didn't already have any plans for were AKB0048 and T7S, though I had gone through all the T7S outfits in the past picking out ones that appealed to me.

As for AKB0048, the series never appealed to me and looking at the outfits I found a lot of them boring so that was difficult..

Valkyrie Nazuna is a distant dream for me-- it will happen someday, but trying to coordinate fabrics with my Shu is far too difficult considering she lives in an entirely different country, ah. We are gonna do Tanabata Shu and Nazuna first though, don't have to worry about matching fabrics at all.

some of these were really easy, but some were pretty hard! Aikatsu and AKB0048 were super easy, since they've already been on my list. Love Live and PriPara were copouts since I only kind of enjoyed them. and I didn't even know what ensemble stars was. I'm not really into boy stuff. maybe I should expand my horizons.

it made me feel kinda bad about putting im@s on the back burner. I need to catch up because now I really want to finish 765 and watch cinderella girls!

My KojiHaru 8th cosplay finally arrived!
Even though I've had the wig for ~2 yrs I didn't try it on before I got the costume. I'm in love!
I haven't styled the wig yet but I almost feel like styling it 'poofier'. As you can see on the reference photo, Kojiharu's long hair is visible from the front, but the wig IRL is long and flat. It's my first cosplay so I don't know if this kind of hairstyle too much for me to do. Also I don't know if there's enough hair in the wig either? Is this possible to do? Should I just style the bangs and call it a day?

A friend got this in our group order (the more "matte" version on the left) and it's quite nice quality for the price. It's holding up quite nicely too since we are in a dance group and have performed several times in our wigs.

Last month, my friend and I decided to cosplay from macross frontier and we just finished up last weekend! even though the time frame was really short, I'm really proud of this costume and I really feel like my techniques have improved across the board. plus it was actually really comfy and fun to wear!

next we're planning on cosplaying Freyja and Mikumo from Macross delta, then I want to do Nagisa from AKB0048, then maybe another Aikatsu cosplay. usually I get major burnout after AX, but this year I really didn't. so I'm just going to keep making things until it catches up with me.

Male idols are 90% of the idol series I'm into. I enjoy them all for different reasons, though Idolish7 is probably my favourite. Most of its costumes are cliche idol as you can get though.

This is something I love about Idolish too, it's story is shit but its refreshing having a game where only 2 characters are in high school and their schooling hardly ever comes up. That said I do enjoy high school series as well and have to give Enstars particularly, props for having a good story and characters despite having such a typical set up.

I'm very into Enstars lately as well as other gulls, but I wonder how people here feel about Starmyu/High School Star Musical, since they can be considered part of the idol genre (though they're more Broadway-esque, even the structure of the anime is like a musical play). I really like that series and imo their songs are very cool. Personally I'd like to cosplay Nayuki because I'd fit him the most.

Seconding this about Idolish. I was very surprised (and relieved) that it doesn't have a school setting. Though I have a very hard time liking the songs, I enjoy it as a rhythm game (blame Love Live and Deresute for that addiction haha)

I tried to watch a couple episodes of Starmyu and it was pretty meh. The designs aren't that interesting either. I tend to judge a series my their megane. Starmyu's was pretty typical. >>9178630 SideM has quite a vairiety though and none of them have the same quirk which is refreshing as a megane whore.

I haven't consumed any form of it but I have to give kudos to UtaPri for essentially being the megaphone which told Japan that women have spending power and can be pandered to just as much as men.

most of my favourite male idols, although only a few class as idols, come from sb69. Most of them are older, the setting is in another world and the characters themselves have a good amount of originally behind them.

I feel like with how saturated the market is now with idols ( both genders really ) unless there's a stand out cast with weird personalities I tend to completely glance over it.

Most recently I did 2 Macross photo shoots over the same weekend! It was fun but exhausting haha!
The first was Macross Delta as Freyja and a friend visiting from the US as Mikumo. We just did the casual outfits (on the prize figures) and went to a beautiful beach in Kent; but almost got caught by the tide coming in. I ended up with a soaked arse but I /think/ we got some good shots, I'm still waiting on them back.
The second was Macross Frontier as Sheryl and a friend as Ranka, which was a first for me as Ranka is my main. I did the 30th anniversary ferris wheel outfits but I wasn't very happy though as my cosplay was super last minute and I was exhausted as I hadn't slept in almost 3 days lol. Definitely do not recommend it!

Before that, was at a con doing the concert version of Kira Kira Sensation Kotori, which I've now got some of the pictures back from and posted on my cospage for Kotori's birthday!

I have no idea what's I'm doing for the rest of the year, but next year I'll definitely be making Devil Kotori and I'm apart of a group making the Bokutachi wa Hitotsu no Hikari transforming dresses, as Kotori again. Plus I'll hopefully be apart of a Walkure group at Colossalcon if we can find the people to join my Mikumo and I. Though I'm unsure if I'll do Freyja, Kaname or Maki-Maki as I'm going to decide based on who we can get to join, as it'd be nice to try and get size ratios right and I want to cosplay them all anyway!

How do you guys pick which idols to cosplay?


I want to cosplay Nico but my porportions are closest to Honoka/Kotori. Actually, all these measurements are kind of ridiculous because I'm taller than Eli and that just doesn't feel right.

I mostly go off of girls I like or outfits I like.
Rule out the ones that'll look bad on you.

I don't take height or measurements into account since all of mine are generally in the range of most anime girls.

Height is especially something you shouldn't really concern yourself with unless you're in a group, but even then it's not that big of a deal.

Height, hair colour (some just don't suit me), how much I like a character and costume play into it for me. Don't cosplay an idol you don't like just because she has the cutest outfits, that'll just waste your money and you'll probably regret it.
Generally anime measurements give you quite a bit of leeway with how far you can stretch them before you look silly. So while, if you're 6ft tall, you're going to look a bit silly as nico, you'll look fine as her at 5'6. If I only let myself cosplay idols my own height, I'd only be able to cosplay male idols. Height only really matters if you're ridiculously shorter or taller or if you're in a group.

Pure emotional connection to the character. my proportions and skin tone usually always work well with the characters I end up liking so I only think about how much I like the outfit and character. especially since I'm going to sink 20+ hours into making the costume.

I only care about height when I'm cosplaying with my best friend, but we always end up choosing characters that work with our heights so it doesn't really mater. a lot of characters I like are actually really short. I think ask long as your costume has the same proportions as the character and your group looks about right in a lineup (short characters are shorter than taller characters) then it's not such a big deal.
