Anyone know where to get a display case like pic related? I currently have IKEA's Deltof, but I'm looking for something with more space and similar visibility.

Personally I go for Craigslist or stores that are closing down, there is also a popular display site that a lot of antique malls buy from and you can basically get a huge solid acrylic or glass cube unit for $100. I'll see if I can find the site name.

If you'd rather stick with ikea though, the billy bookcases with glass doors and lighting looks pretty nice!

Question: my craft/sewing room is also our guest bedroom for my in-laws and friends staying the night.
How can I make my room kawaii as shit but still adult enough to be for nonweebs?

You could try doing what she does for the underside of her desk but do that for her shelves. Get a classy looking cloth and turn it into a curtain for your shelves so it doesn't matter is it doesn't look adult enough underneath!

Can I dump some cgl related desktop wallpaper? I'm sure you're talking about wallpaper for actual walls. But I think I lot of people keep computers in their room so could be sort of related.

My bedroom is 9ft x 10ft so it is pretty tiny. Only a queen size bed, mannequin, and dresser fits and my closet is so tiny as well. What are some tips to maximize space? I can barely walk in my room so I feel like I need to remodel, get some inspo and useful tips since my lolita dresses and husbando figures/video game LE's need proper shelving.

This is honestly NOT want I want to see in a fucking ROOM thread. I understand people have idle screens for their computers, but this is a ROOM thread, not a computer screen thread.
>>
This is the current layout to my room. I ended up moving my loveseat to the window, my bed in the middle, and cleared out about $300 worth of clothes from my closet to donate and sell, so that I could put my dresser in there. I wish I had money to paint my walls, but it is also a rental and my mom refuses to ask the landlord if we can paint even though we have been here almost 10 years now. : |

I can throw out some ideas, see if you find any of them useful:

Bed -- this takes up the most space so it makes sense to make it do double duty, or reduce its size):
- downgrade to a twin or single (assuming you live alone)
- bed with storage. If you don't have space around the bed for drawers, some older bed models open upwards instead of having drawers at the sides
- put bins for storage under your bed (if you can't find bed with storage)
- bunk beds. You won't be able to stand up under them, but there's usually enough height if you just want a sofa to chill in, or you can turn the entire underside into a large lolita closet
- if you spend all day in your room, considering switching to a sofa bed, a wall bed, or a futon so you can roll them away during the day and take it out when you want to sleep.

For storage space:

- attach floating shelves and racks to your walls, they don't take up as much floor space as standing shelves and you can attach them even over the bed, your desk, your mannequin, wherever.
- attach hooks for things you can hang, or hang organisers on your hooks for smaller items (eg socks, makeup, jewellery, game CDs fit into most hanging organisers)
- Hang organisers and coat hooks on the back of doors. Fair warning though, either glue down the bottom corners or open the doors gently
- Hand organisers from your ceiling. This can be either the Ikea wardrobe netting organiser, or the kind of rack folks use in their garages/kitchens, or other things like garden planters with a basket/colander in it, etc.
- Some girls hang their lolita dress from the walls, make sure they don't end up having direct sunlight on them if you go this route, though, as sunlight fades dress colours. As a bonus, in addition to being both room deco and lolita wardrobe, you can hang blouses inside jsks and make your coords directly on the wall.

This goes without saying, but don't hang that will be over your head when you sleep, just in case.

does any one have nice simple references on rooms with plush collections? i collect pokemon plush and would like to display them but i'm not fond of using shelves. (I already have one for figures.) I heard of things like toy hammocks, but can't find much room references for them.

I finally got pic related last night and will throw out a piece of furniture (not pictured) that is next to the commode either today or tomorrow. It takes up a lot of space and I wasn't able to measure the wall properly because of that. I want some cute shelves where I can display the few manga that I have together with design inspo.
I want my room to have a cute elegant shabby chic x forest fairy aesthetic, so far I have some fake flower garlands on my wishlist, but is there anything else to add for forest vibes? I've been wondering whether to keep the shelves in a similar aesthetic as the vanity and commode or use thick tree branches that are wide enough to hold stuff.
Also does anyone have advice on how to display magazines? Got a bunch of old vintage ones together with my Larme issues that I'd love to display somehow.
>>
>>9105872
damn this is prety
you could so easily do french but I'm so excited about the forest idea
could I ask you to share pics when you're finished please anon-chan?
>>
>>9105872
>display magazines

I've seen spice racks recommended for that, you can stand them cover outwards to admire the covers.

Alternatively, you can try looking for shadow boxes that you can fit the magazines into. They have more depth than regular frames so you can fit the entire magazine in, but getting the magazine out to be able to flip through them would probably be annoying.

(Assuming you want to still be able to read the magazines rather than cutting out the covers and making wallpaper/framed art with just the covers)

Shadow boxes are actually a good idea for my vintage magazines! They ones I have are from the 50s/60s and I own some more vintage badges that I could put in together with one or two magazines.

I used one of my old easels in pic related, I kinda like the idea of switching Larme issues out every once in a while.
I also can imagine using some spice racks and decorating them, thank you for your suggestions anon

I just took all the posters down in my room yesterday in preparation to move and I will tell you gulls my room looks so fucking boring now. So jelly of your storage space. I have an old mdf sewing cabinet that I'm undecided on in terms of repainting vs. covering with wallpaper or contact paper - I want it to be vaguely gothic top try and help my room along that pathway. On the other hand it matches the current colour scheme of my rental(we have horrible cream walls) so isn't too bad right now in terms of matching.
>>
>>9112755
Really cute! What are you keeping in the bins? Fabric?
>>

Thank you! The bins hold fabric, notions, serger thread, works in progress, crafts, etc. They are a good size to store things in, but in my notions bin I have everything in smaller containers, as a full bin a nothing but notions would be a nightmare.

I have this really annoying thing in my room, pic related. I've never found a common term for what this is called, so looking up ideas for it has been difficult. We've always called it a stairwell, but the stairwell is actually the other side of it (If anyone doesn't know, it's a chunk of the ceiling above the stairs that has been cut away to allow headroom).

When I have found ideas for it online, they've always been 'Make it into a cute reading area', which is useless for me because I do everything from my main desk or 'Turn it into a desk!' which is also useless because there's no legroom underneath.

I can't make any actual changes to it as they're not permitted under 'structural changes' by the housing association. All I can do is put stuff on it, but I don't know how to do it in a way that isn't awkward. I'm thinking of just putting shelves around the outer wall part but then it just makes the space in the middle awkward and weird.

>>9110368
I love it when I see people embrace how much of a weeb they are. Good on you, Anon.
>>
>>9113218
Maybe you could make this into a cute reading nook? Like with cushions and some fairy lights?
I used to have a similar thing in an old room but the ceiling sloped down too far so all I could do was put plushies and knickknacks on it
>>
>>9113227
Woops. Blind af. I just saw you said a reading area is pointless for you
>>
>>9113218
OK, one more idea. My old room had this exact thing but the closet had been built on top of it. I know you said you can't make changes but maybe you could put a curtain up around some shelves and a free standing clothing rod? At least get some extra storage space out of what is being wasted.
>>
>>9113218
I like the idea of putting shelves on it. If you're a Lolita or cosplayer you could also put one of those clothing racks on it to store outfits and the shelf for accessories. Decorate the bottom part with a cute rug, and the side walls near the actual floor of the room with posters or framed artwork! Or if you're a collector do shelves with animu merch and the floor part with plushies everywhere.

LOL, I already own some kimono and I'm a professional seamstress, so I've already been trying to figure out the logistics of painting kimono silk and where to get the frames to stretch the fabric over.....
I don't want to go overboard and attempt the full authentic kimono but I'm not buying some shitty Chinese "costume komomo" with a lump of foam covered in fabric for an obi.
Maybe for a summer con next year?
Anyways, not trying to go off topic but I was thinking to do one of these kimono some serious justice.

Learning how to refinish even simple things like picture frames can help a lot if you are trying to reach a certain aesthetic. I have gotten many lovely things at a very good price just because someone at some point decided to paint them a fugly colour.

I don't know. Some of them can actually be sort of cute. Personally, I don't like them because a lot of them are so over priced. They feel cheap in your hands and sometimes even look cheap. My brother collects them and I see him paying $10 to $15 (or even more) on pops that look like they shouldn't be over $6.
>>
>>9119204
Maiko kimono and the formal obi aren't just painted silk they are heavily embroidered and the obi are also brocade. They are expensive for a reason. You may have great sewing skills but what you are saying is about the equal to posting a Chanel couture gown and saying "oh, I'll just whip one of these up once I find a beading tutorial." I'll believe it when I see it. And don't get me wrong I would love to see it, but I'm not holding my breath. Also okobo are a fun challenge but take practice, this I have experienced.

I totally understand what you are saying, but I said I wanted to COSPLAY these. Not "Become a master kimono artist and spend 1000x hours embroidering and applying gold leaf to a kimono I'm going to wear to a dirty convention."
Shit.
You're likening just wanting to make a decent looking costume kimono to saying you can't cosplay Holly Golightly if you can't sew as well as Givenchy.

Again, when I say I'm a professional seamstress I mean "I will not look like shit" and "I will make a lined properly fitted costume. And as much as I would like to buy a beautiful kimono and formal obi....it's for cosplay.

Not everyone collects figures because they are devoid of relationships with real people. Some people like the series they are collecting of, and surprisingly, some people don't even sexualize figures. Because you know, they are toys. Of characters that don't exist.

Seriously, why weebs nowadays are so concerned with waifu garbage? It's literally a cartoon you are dedicated to, you aren't special because of it. Advice for my room?

I just moved into an apartment, so no painting, holes in walls, etc. Preferably no new furniture (I'm poor), but I'm thinking I want a small vanity next to the door eventually.

I don't really know what style I like, maybe a more modern look? Something simple? Idk.

Oh and I haven't hung up posters or frames yet, I'm waiting for some adhesive to come into the mail, along with hooks to hang up the frames. And I have a desk chair coming too, incase anyone is weirded out by me not having a chair.

I'm thinking about buying the comforter and the curtains in the lower right? I definitely need curtains to put over the blinds, since the blinds are very damaged thanks to whoever was here last. Thoughts?

>>
>>9130869
I'm sure the landlord won't lose their mind if you just putty over it and paint it. They may even have some of the paint originally used for the room around the house.
>>
>>9130869
Looks like part of the plaster has come off with the paper? If so take it down, fill the hole with polyfilla or whatever brand is available in your part of the world. Sand smooth with fine sandpaper and repaint to match the room (tester pots are great for small touch-ups).
If the paper is just ripped I would remove the hook as carefully as possible and use some wallpaper paste to stick the paper back, then touch up with paint.
>>
>>9130869
>peel off paint and sticky thing
>spackle
>paint over spackle

Going off of this, whenever I see people mention not being able to nail things because it's rented, do people just really not nail things? I've rented a few different apartments before and I just spackle up the holes and paint it over and the landlords have always been fine with that. I've even told them what I was doing, despite the "no nails!" policy. Granted, I also obsessively clean and do basic maintenence myself so they probably give me some leeway.

I only have Ralphie from a Christmas Story but it's one of the few where I feel the blocky design and blank expression actually fits. Also because it's the only Christmas Story merch that doesn't look like something would come from a What on Earth catalog.

I second the anon suggesting you move your bed into the alcove if it fits. I'd then move the desk in front of the window and use it as a temporary (maybe permanent if you're on a very tight budget?) vanity as well--the natural light's great for makeup.

For your curtains, I'd get a rod long enough to install your curtains almost completely to the sides of the window, which will make it appear larger. Pic related.

For privacy you can buy cheap sheer curtains (I use a single panel for my windows instead of two--I like a more streamlined look and don't often look out my bedroom windows). Alternatively, you could buy cheap replacement blinds--usually less than $8 at a big box hardware store.

If you're not sure what style you like and aren't sure of your comforter/curtain choices, it's okay to wait a week or so and get a better base idea of what you like through pinterest.

Seconding what these anons have said, anon. I just LOVE your brightly colored bedspread. Find a paint that matches and paint some frames for your posters in that color! Check Goodwill and other thrift stores. See if you can find an estate sale group page on Facebook (if you use it, or any other social media) for your region, too. I follow one for mine, and I just love it. Estate sales are amazing!
>>
>>9131250
Great idea about painting matching frames!

Room-anon, you can take a pillow case into any paint or hardware store and they'll be able to get you a perfect match. Beware big box hardware stores upselling paint--they're trained to suggest and mix you a high quality paint without mentioning price first; ask for the price before your paint is mixed and for more economical options if the price is higher than your budget.

I've got a small figure collection, but due to how varied the genres of the figures I'm very unsure how to present it less bare. I'm thinking of putting a background to the shelf but I can't think of anything that matches all of the figures I own. I don't have enough shelves either to arrange them by genre. Any ideas?

Are those all of your figures or do you have more? If they don't match in series, genre, or even size there's really no way to organize them except giving each enough space to be viewed and appreciated individually. Try purchasing acrylic risers so there's not so much blank space at the top of the shelf while the bottom is crowded.

A lot of nicer collections look, well nice, because the collector limits themselves and keeps to similar figures. For example purchasing only 1/7 scale models and avoiding figmas and nendoroids or having small clusters of the same characters separating each by different shelves or cubes.

I'm living in a small place for a couple of months to a year and I think having a pull out couch type thing will be better than getting both separate.

I room look horrible because my stupid cat tore the wallpaper apart and when I asked my parents to get something to cut her claws they said no and let her destroy everything (they thought I meant to completely remove her claws I think). I never thought about putting posters in frames, I'll keep that in mind if I find frames that are big enough. If you don't want a pet that scratches things don't buy a cat. Get it a scratching post.
>>
>>9138963

I can kind of understand renters not being able to paint and parents refusing to ask since its their place. Especially if you have lived there, so long that the walls are kind of dirty because of pets or just age or even children. Someone was talking about nailing things into the walls of a rental which I understand too. Where are you getting nail clippers from? Wires can hid under a shelf liner. Depending on the spacing, even adding a little decoration like lace/tulle around the lamps would mostly hide the wires and could also diffuse the light for softer lighting (depending on how much you let droop), like a much less tackier version of pic.

>>9120173
I never understood why people collected these but after watching my friend buy them time and time again, I kinda get it now. They are extremely affordable figures that cover a huge number of fandoms. They're almost guaranteed to have a character you like and their wide availability makes it a convenient impulse-buy.

It's less:
>I'm looking for a specific character so I can collect the figure
and definitely more:
>Oh look, it's [Character]! I love [Character]!

>>9126792
Normally I dislike walls papered with posters but your spacing is really on point so I gotta give you props for that.

>>9139497
I have a dog and those nails need to be clipped or else they overgrow, but it never occurred to me that a cat's nails can also be clipped to literally take the edge off. I thought it was just declaw or let them keep their weapons of mass destruction. If this is her first pet then I could understand the ignorance. In any case, it sounds like she has learned her lesson and hopefully will make the effort to train her animal.
>>
>>9139511
Cat's nails are small enough you can even use regular human nail clippers to clip the tip. I used to do that with my cat.

Is this drawn to scale? The coffeetable looks really narrow. You can use a tablecloth to match it better to your room's aesthetic. Do you have no other furniture than your bed and that table? The way they are currently laying, there's a lot of dead space on the sides of the bed since it's too narrow to fit anything there. I would rotate your bed 90 degrees and move it more towards the middle. That gives you a lot more floor space to add shelves, cabinets, a desk, etc. I added some furniture in green to give you an idea.

For an area to photograph, why not get one of those sheets that roll up when not in use?

Aw, it looks so homey and comfy.

Mind giving a sauce on the Printemps and Constellation prints if you have them?

For the shelf, maybe some ruffles around the edge? Similar to the washi tape, but more like a 2 inch width so it covers the weird criss-cross thing going on. And you could put stickers on the legs themselves to make them cuter if that's not too childish for your taste.

I can't find the artist of the Printemps one, sorry! Tried to take a picture and reverse google image searched but no bueno :(

Ruffles to hide the weird criss cross things is definitely a good idea! I guess I should be on the look out for those in Daiso or something. And I'm never too old for stickers!

I'm a 25 year old guy and I still have Pooh next to Miku (don't ask) in my study.

My wife doesn't let me clutter the bedroom... Japanese apartments are too small to really prettify or take decent photos of. ;_;

Hopefully never. (I'm >>9126792)
But in all honesty, I think girls can get away with it indefinitely, and for guys it depends what kind/how they're displayed.
