I'm moving this summer and might be getting a home with an extra room to deck out and make mine. I'm really excited ! I think I'm going to make it entirely my lolita/vanity room plus put my cute collectibles in there (nendoroids magical girl stuff, other toys,)
I live with my husband so I've never been able to make my bedroom a pink paradise like I've wanted.

Requesting bedrooms that are beautiful but could still share them with male partner. Queen bed for 2 people. I'm thinking maybe shabby chic or French country looks might not be too frilly, just pretty? How do you think about this? I have a decent budget for this, not ikea level but not designer either.
>>
>>9090499
you know there's 3 simple solutions to this:
kick him out and have him sleep separately so you can have a glorious woman cave
or: split the room down the middle and put the kawaii shit on one side
tell him to suck it up and stop having such a fragile male ego
>>
>>9090460

>>9090558
No, it's me that doesn't want to frill it up. I have another bedroom in the house to frill up to my heart's content using a day bed and he has his office that is his 'man cave' though it's more neat and tech than like the ugly dens I see for man cave type rooms. I want our bedroom to just be pretty but not frilly, more elegant. (I think most ruffly rooms pictured are like teenage girls rooms and would be kind of a boner-killer, t b h)

I usually have all white furniture, but am moving in with my boyfriend, who has dark/wooden furniture. I get my own room, thankfully, to decorate, but need help with decorating with darker colors. I want to keep some of the lighter/feminine colors, but incorporate the dark wood. Any ideas?

Maybe compromise with jewel tones and gold trim, a bit regal? Pastels will be a big contrast to darker furniture and can make rooms actually look smaller due to the contrast. Mid tones aren't as much of a contrast but every time I think of dark wood, I think of rich medieval colors that look luxurious.

Gosh.

I remember being mocked and hated for liking Sailor Moon when I was younger. To the point that if people found I had merchandise from it, they stole it and destroyed it. Then again, small towns are like that. Just visiting my parents a few months ago, some guy called me Tinkerbell and yanked at my hair to see if it was a wig. I was removed from the public bus for giving him a black eye.

Anyone else wary of exposing their interests in small towns?

I wanna get a loft bed. me and my boyfriends appartment is pretty small, so it would give a lot of needed space for storage and stuff
Only problem is that my boyfriend doesn't really want one. He's a bit chubby, and really tall, so he weighs quite a bit, and he's afraid that the bed wont hold and whatever
Does anyone have experience with similar problems? Like, how durable is loft beds usually? What models would work best? Are there any ways to make the bed more "safe"?

well you could probably make more room by getting rid of the miku figures and giving them all to me thank you

jokes aside I think your room looks great!
>>
>>9092019
They are usually rated for a safe weight limit so you + boyfriend + bedding, pillows etc = under the limit. But if his feet usually stick out on a normal bed (many tall guys hang their feet over) then he won't like a loft bed because you usually can't.
Also one person has to sleep on the inside and climb over the other if they want to get out of bed.
Why not get a wall bed instead if you need to save space?
>>
>>9091858
You need white furniture! I wonder if you could get taller, thinner bookshelves as well (not sure how tall your ceilings are, but start by measuring the entire space). There are LOTS of tutorials on how best to utilize tight spaces on Pinterest.
The black shelves are constricting your space. If they were white, it would open the room up a bit further. Maybe some mirrors and fairy lights?

Makoto is my husbando. I love that pillow. The banana pillow looks so comfy!
>>
>>9091858
Not sure how amenable you are to the idea but I always felt like figures look better in a "work" area (e.g. office or game room) because those spaces tend to lend themselves better to displays, whereas a bedroom is a more active space. If you have an area like that then perhaps consider migrating the majority of your figures there? If not, you could store some of them and rotate as desired. I do this with my posters whenever I have the urge to redecorate

>>9092160
I have that banana pillow and it is indeed very comfy thanks to its shape, and wonderfully cool (temperature) as well.
>>
>>9092019
You can build up support with lofts. The great thing about them is that they are versatile. Reinforce your loft with planks. Go on Pinterest and explore! For example, I quite liked this idea as reinforcement which also works as a ladder: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/350366045989807789/

This is what I'm thinking. It's more like a "grown-up" bunk bed but put it right up against the wall, paint it white, bam. Those beams are pretty thick. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/341710690456518359/

Not sure about white but I was definitely wanting something much lighter. My ceilings are unfortunately maxed out currently but I actually do have a giant mirror with fairy lights! It is a bit blocked from my vanity though.

I think the figures have to stay. I definitely agree and I wish I could move them but I have roommates. I'm planning to sell a few, hopefully that will dwindle the collection down enough to not be so overwhelming!

Thank you!!

Ah, I didn't know that actually, thanks for telling me!
His feet just about fits inside, so that wouldn't be a problem.
>Why not get a wall bed
Well, first of all we can't drill or anything, second of all, I'd like to maybe have my desk or an extra closet or something under the loft bed, and that would obviously not work if you have to fold the bed down every night
Thanks for the suggestion though!

Moving into uni halls in the summer, does anyone have any cute pics or ideas of decorating such a tiny space? Pic is what my room will be
>>
I really admire these rooms a lot, but I find myself wondering how these people live in them. Especially for very clutterrd sweet lolita rooms, it just doesn't seem like there's enough room for anything else practical.

I've tried to make my room as cute as I can with my terrible decorating skills, but I still can't manage to make it look fully ~aesthetic~. Like I have a cluttered desk with documents in folders and shit, a full rolling rack with non lolita sewing projects, and general household items that just aren't cute. I wish I could get rid of all this clutter (the desk space bugs me the most) but it's probably better to just be practical, right?

I would assume that some of these people just do their sewing/work in another room, like an office or a study space. Though I'm not sure how that works in small Japanese apartments and the like... Maybe they just have a "cute corner" where its clean and they sleep there and the rest of the room is a mess.

There's also looking into storage solutions/"lifehacks" to try and organize your space better to make it look nicer. It'd also make it easier for you to find stuff at the snap of your fingers. Get some nice shelves, cute-ify it with some lace and heck, maybe even some stickers or some custom painted-on designs if you're brave/artistic enough.

I don't have any tips myself but since they're so popular finding a few articles on good organization ideas couldn't really be hard to find, right? (Honestly I just kind of shove all my stuff into drawers until I deal with it all at a later date so I'm not the person to ask about that stuff lol)

Nah, you just gotta reimagine the rest of your room. Clear out one side of your room, fill it with clothes racks and turn your entire bedroom into one giant wall-to-wall sleep-in closet.

Now that your clothes are out of your tiny closet you can turn your tiny closet into a book nook and enjoy spiders.

It really depends whether you want pastel cute, matching the chair cute, more shabby chic etc. I would do lining paper/removable vinyl sticker/contact paper rather than paint so you can change it. I have a vintage (but mdf, not real wood) sewing cabinet the same colour as your desk and although it kinda matches the rental house which has horrible cream walls, I'm planning to wallpaper or something to make it fit my gothic dreams.

The bow I'm using at the moment is quite heavy, I bought the fig at a con not realising the bow was slightly damaged and the weight of it sometimes rotates the bow in her hand so it's not straight, the plastic where the two halves connect is chipped away. I assumed mine was used or ex display, I dunno if this is a reoccurring issue. It's not obvious though, I just tweak the position back sometimes
>>
>>9093444
>>9093448
Not that anon but the striped wallpaper would be cute. I don't think the blackboard is a good idea for a number of reasons, one of which being anytime you wanted to draw on it you would have to remove everything on the shelf first, and more importantly, chalk dust would get all over your stuff.

>>9093374
Those tulip cups are really cute!

>>9092433
You have a single? It looks like your furniture is built in. I'd get a rug and storage cubes for the top shelf on your desk to help with organization. It looks like you have a lot of desk space so you could even get get a cube on your desk for more shelving if needed. Since your bed is against the wall, you could decorate it with some pillows/plushes so it acts like a couch during the daytime. Not sure if the bedframe will allow it but you might be able to store stuff under your bed as well. Take advantage of adhesive wall hooks to give you more storage space - purses and cute clothes can be hung from them as storage as well as be displayed that way. You could also string some lights up for ambiance. I'd get one of those over the door shoe racks. Get a little rug for the entrance so you're not tracking stuff into your room when you enter.
>>
>>9093449
Most owners have issues with their bow. The problem is GS used a material that is too brittle and doesn't do well with weight over periods of time. That being said

if you're storing fabric at your desk then perhaps put them in baskets and stack them on the very top shelf, you could store a lot of fabric that way and it's not something you would be accessing frequently (as compared to sewing supplies like scissors and needles) so putting it in a harder to reach place would be OK. Anyway, how you store things will be your preference in the end!

My bf and I just moved into our new apartment and surprise surprise we got ugly brown carpet instead of nice white carpet like the apartment unit that we were shown. It totally ruined my plans on how I was going to paint the room and decorate it; our master bedroom is smaller than we thought as well. I want to do one of those nice stylish weeb otaku rooms. Me and my bf are sharing the bedroom obviously and he doesn't want anything pink or purple (He wouldn't mind if it we didn't have his semi-normie guy friends coming over on a regular basis). Don't mind how gloomy the room looks, it's just the lighting. We plan on switching out all of the light bulbs with some nice bright white lighting to make the room less gloomy and depressing. Any ideas what I can work around with this ugly carpet to make it not seem so bad? I mean it's not too bad, but it's just hard to work with such a color.

maybe get a large light colored area rug that covers most of the brown carpet or is the same measurements as the room? that's what I did until I moved into a another place.

All this inspo makes me want to make my room less 'weeby' and more 'cute weeby'

Stupid question but I have a fairly classic room and don't know how to organise the top of my dresser drawers. Those plastic organiser boxes just look off. Any suggestion about what might fit better?

What colour scheme are you hoping to have?

Was wanting to do this nice green with white shelves and desk like this pic; but the carpet would make it look ugly. I found a tutorial on installing wood on apartment rental carpet but it might cost me a pretty penny. Idk how long we plan to lease this apartment for but I'm pretty sure we'll be staying her for maybe 3 or 3 years so it would be worth $200-$300 for me to spend if we are leasing here that long.

I'll have to look into an area rug that would go with this carpet. Hopefully I can find one that is as big as this room maybe. I just hope the rug doesn't start sliding around or bunching up when I have to move things.

so many typos sorry, just wake up. Meant to type 2 to 3 years.

I love seeing green used in rooms. If you'll be there for a while, getting better flooring is an investment worth making, despite the initial annoyance of yet another expense. I'm in a shared rental and I just laid down some wood laminate (it has come leaps and bounds) after putting up with my ugly crime scene carpet, and it has really made me happier with my space. Hope to see future progress of your green-room

That's some pretty deep Engrish flavor text.

It sounds like you are renting the apartment. I'd be very careful with painting and laying down additional flooring; these might not be allowed per your lease so you'd either have to intentionally violate the terms of your lease (and risk eviction and/or heavy fees) or try to convince your landlord to make an allowance and add a sub-clause or something stating you can make these alterations.

I'm in the area rug camp like >>9097376 and >>9097501. If you want complete floor coverage just so you don't have to look at the brown carpet then you could feasibly get away with a couple smaller area rugs (instead of one huge rug) similar to bottom right in pic.

I think you can make the brown carpet work if you set your mind to it! Try to keep lighter, cool-toned colored furniture and decorations to help offset the dark floor. The nice thing about dark flooring is that it can really make colors pop, so you can use colors strategically to create focal points. Pic is some examples on how colors can look especially pleasing with dark flooring (dropped pic from previous post is included in this one).

Thank you! Surely going to look into the laminated flooring, and hopefully after it's all done be able to finally get this room together. Do you remember the estimate of how much you payed for? I'd have to measure the room, but it's pretty small for a master bedroom. I really love that color green in that pic, it goes really well with all sorts of different lighting.

>>9097806
We talked to the landlord before we moved in about painting and she said it's totally fine, just at the end of our lease we have to paint it back to white. We are still of course going to notify her how and when we plan to do it with the flooring and painting. It's just going to be for our master bedroom really.
>>
>>9097819
Sounds great then! Just make sure to get it in writing because you never know, sometimes landlords conveniently "forget" come end of lease. Good luck with the redecorating!
>>
I've been looking for cute, lacy type curtains that still block out view at night/when light is on, any inspo or suggestions?
>>
>>9097705
Have you considered spray painting them or covering them in decorative paper to match your color scheme?
>>
>>9097819
I paid under £150 for my room and ended up with wood left over (including beading and underlay). As >>9097806 said, just make sure your landlord has no problem with it; luckily mine acknowledged the carpet was horrible and was happy I was doing something out of pocket rather than asking him to change it.

Additionally, paint and change the lighting first, this might change how you find the carpet. Good luck anon!

get a thicker curtain or shutters to block light in addition to lace curtains, basically like how hotel rooms have the double layer curtains for their windows.

I think you should consider painting the desk itself either white, blue or another coordinating color instead of leaving it that brown color. I'd still use the striped wallpaper. Of course if the desk is antique or valuable, don't reprint it. Or you could sand and restain it if you're handy with that stuff and it's real wood, it would look adorable in a pale wood finish or even with a blue stain.

Contributing, I really enjoy the way this living room is both mature yet very feminine.
