So this convention is in a few months and it boasts being the first convention to take place across the border of Canada and the USA, with events and dealers rooms on both sides. There's a 12 minute walk across a bridge and a customs/border control section you have to go through to get to the other end of the convention. It's supposedly connected to a Canadian water park, has hotels on both sides, and a "Promstuck" dance.

How ridiculous is this idea? Anyone going?
>>
>>9068375
beethy is a guest. I might check it out. we don't have a lot of cons in upstate ny
>>
Why?
>>
Maybe, I live 20 mind from there and it'd be a fun area to run around in cosplay, but the border crossing isn't just nbd. If you go out on that bridge in cosplay you have to cross the border to get off at either end. And it takes an hour in the car if it's busy. Also, there's a toll. Not a great idea, in my onion
>>
A hike with customs.
>>
is the american side of the con better or the canadian side? I can't find out from their poorly designed web site. I'm not going to cross border on foot.
>>
>>9068440
Canadian side has water park and most of the attractions they're advertising. I think the dance is there too.
>>
>>9068445
thanks. i can't find the map on the site.
>>
Do you need a passport to go to the Canadian side? Seems really weird.
>>
>>9068578
I'd assume you'd need one to come back over into america at the least
>>
>>9068578
You don't need a passport to walk out onto the bridge, but you need one to come back off on either side. Since the post 9/11 panic basically you need a passport both ways.
>>
>>9068879
What happens if you walk out on it without your passport? How do you get back out?
>>
>>9068879
Nah, wasn't till like '09 that you could get across with just a driver's license if you were 'murrican. If you were taking the Greyhound they usually made you bring a birth certificate. They let me into the US with just an Ontario Health card twice. Now though, you need a passport both ways.

Either way, crossing the border at a busy crossing to get the "full con experience" sounds like a fucking mess and I wish them the best of luck. Hotel with a waterpark? yasss. tolls and customs at one of the busiest crossings in the two countries? nope nope nope.

>>9068922
Lol, don't do this. If you don't have one or if you're a non-citizen resident of Canada but don't have US visitor visa, don't go on the bridge. Know someone who made the wrong turn, there was nowhere to turn around and the border people detained them for like four hours. Maybe it's different walking but still.
>>
>>9068935
the water park is separate from the hotel, so I think you have to pay for a pass for the waterpark. maybe there's a discount but it's not included in the badge.
>>
This con sounds like a mess and they're trying real hard to be Fan Expo. Putting it close to the same time as FanEx.
>>
Did they post a schedule yet? I need to find out where the events are so I can book the hotel. I'm not going to waste time crossing the border
>>
>>9068922
you call your mom.
>>
>con in late August
>it's not even July
>expecting a schedule
>>
they just announced Lyz Brickley. I hope they invite Darshelle along
>>
>>9068375
This looks like so much 'not worth it'.
>>
>>9068375
This sounds like the worst idea ever.
>>
People already complain about walking and shuttle buses at multi hotel cons. This is a train wreck waiting to happen. Unless the American side has some competitive attractions it's going to be the ghetto side
>>
>>9077113
All the American side seems to have is a dealer's room and maybe some guests who won't cross over.
>>
>>9077113
>>9077482
which sides have what? I'm such a noob. I live a couple hours away and don't mind checking it out if the american side is decent
>>
>>9077494
From their Facebook:

>Yes, it is on both sides. Think of it like two separate cons running concurrently. The guests have events and sign autographs on both sides. Both sides have a unique vendors area. Both sides have gaming and 24-hour programming. Cross for double the fun!

The Promstuck dance, the water park, the casino, the aviary, the petting zoo with alpacas, and all that all seems to be on the Canadian side.
>>
People running this are incompetent. That Corey fuck who creeps girls at AN is in charge. He got fired from Youmacon for being an incompetent fucktard and was at Yeticon harassing cosplayers. Fuck that guy.

And yeah, can confirm, creeps on underage kids, has asked them to dinner, followed them to the bathrooms.
Greasy, skeezy dude.

I've run into this guy a few times and he's a total sleaze. If he's running this thing I'm completely out. Some people like Antonio are incompetent fucks, but Corey is like borderline actual pedophile and molester. Not cool.
>>
>>9077707
>>9078328
Who? I have never heard of this guy? I need the name to warn my friends. There are a lot of Coreys out there.
>>
>>9078352
Goes by Corey Russel or Corey Gough AFAIK

Complete shitbag. I had to work with him at Youmacon for a couple of years and I'm glad Morgan finally fired his ass. All he did was suck celebrity dick and make everyone else feel gross.
>>
>>9078357
So he's the head of the con now? That's scary
>>
>>9078441

American Conrunner/Staff here who's had to work with this dickhole at Midwest Media Expo.

He started his own. He's been trying to snipe guests from other cons too. I caught him waiting at the elevators at both AN and Yeticon to harass guests into giving him contact info. One of the handlers at AN had to physically push him away before he got the hint.

He also invited himself to the con-runners dinner at AN. Followed someone in then sat down at a seat reserved for someone else then pretended he belonged there. The other person didn't show so he just sat there the entire time trying to ask really pointed questions about "how do you get guests" and "can I get contact info for ____ from you?", etc. No one fucking took him seriously but it was still WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU HERE.

He's molested female staff at Youma and MWMX before and his "girlfriend" basically turns a blind eye to it because he buys her shit (and she's kind of a bitch too). One of those guys who's a dick and then is all like "it's just a prank bro why don't you like it when I joke"
>>
vanity fox, rabbit in the moon, athel artistry, akanesatome , purblind, rikala, emma key, chessnut cosplay. aside from goggly eyes, I have never heard of these clowns . who the fuck are these people?
>>
>>9079400
Purblind I've heard of and Vanity Fox. But mostly just local cosplayers. While I respect that a lot of smaller cosplayers get their start by getting invited as low-level guests at cons, Fanworld is just doing it to try and rope the cosplay community into attending.

Meanwhile they've completely been abusing their guests.
>>
>>9068391
>don't have a lot of cons in Upstate NY

Western NY is constantly having "anime cons" it's just a matter of if they're good or not lol
>>
Yeesh, I was thinking about visiting for a day to meet Dante (it's right after Ota and I can't get that weekend off) but it sounds like way too much of a hassle. Not gonna drive an hour both ways to deal with customs and ClusterfuckCon
>>
How has nobody posted the fact they're asking for attendees to upload pictures of themselves for badges. So creepy.
>>
>>9081307
It's a "security measure" which I kinda get, but it's also just asking for stalkers and creepers to take advantage of people.

Though hey, it's a system devised by a pedo stalker/creeper, soooooo
>>
>>9081307
FanWorld should be known by the official name CreeperCon
>>
>>9081307
what the fuck

>Please upload an identifying photo (.png or .jpg) to complete the admissions process. The purpose for this photo is to associate a face with an event attendee, so the photo must match the person who will seek to use it as admission at Fan World. So long as the photo clearly reflects the attendee, the photo may be a "selfie," a candid photo, a cosplay photo where staff may still discern the face, etc. Any photo which is deemed inappropriate or unidentifiable will be returned with the request for a proper photo to be re-submitted. Please note: These photos will be properly discarded after the conclusion of Fan World: 2016, so the photos will never be saved or transferred for any purposes without the consent of the attendee. All photos will be used only for the purpose of admissions identification, and will not be used for any other purposes without consent. The photo is critical as it provides staff the ability to confirm admissions, while also protecting any attendee from losing their "badge" or theft.
>>
>>9082122
How would this even be helpful if they had actual long lines? You don't have time to actually match face-badge when putting through a couple of hundred people. The line would be there for an hour. I've done club and music show security before. We only ever check VIPs because there's far fewer of those people. It would be a nightmare to do with regular attendees.
>>
>>9082137
It's the Disneyland system
The difference is that people actually want to go to Disneyland
>>
>>9082175
Right, but Disneyland also works on a reservation system for most major events so you have less of an immediacy problem.
>>
Man. Now I really want to go because it has Dashcon 2.0 written all over it.
>>
>hurr durr it's the first con taking place in two countries at once!

>>9083684
Not everyone have a passport you dumb shit. I think this is a great idea
>>
>>9084029
>>9083684

>>
>>9084029

>>
>>9083957

>>
I can't believe I even considered this con.
>>
i don't get how this con is able to afford all these guests. is this some sort of money laundering operation? nobody i know is going
>>
>>9084329
wouldn't be surprised. friends got an artist's table but have gotten no information yet and are worried it's a scam.
>>
Are Vickybunnyangel and Yasemin Arslan still guesting at Fan World? there were annoucemnets for both but there's no trace of them on the web site anymore. It looks like guests are backing out of this cancer con
>>
>>9085404
Nope. At least I know Vicky pulled out and if the photoshoot Corey hosted to promote his con I think it's because he's an abusive dick to his guests.
>>
>>9084329
Voice actors work on a guarantee, so the con doesn't have to pay them much if they make autograph sales to cover it.

Internet guests are usually cheap, but Corey's also banking on folks showing up because niagara. I've had chats with him and he thinks he's going to get like 12k attendees.
>>
>>9085678
fuck. i didn't know vicky cancelled. she was heavily promoted. why was there no announcement? any other cosplay guests backed out?
>>
>>9085404
Yasemin pulled out too.
>>
>>9085682

>>
>>9085694
>>9085723
b/c Corey doesn't like to lose face and prefers to badmouth ppl behind closed doors rather than draw any attention to his failures

I was friends with Corey for years and then just had to distance myself when he started hitting on younger and younger girls. one was like 13 and I was NOPE NOPE NOPE THIS DUDE IS A PEDO and now I just watch him kind of self-destruct
>>
I'm guessing vanity fox and sweet sensation are both going down with the ship since one is the face of the con and the other being the official con photographer
>>
>>9084029
>Crossing the rainbow bridge multiple times in a weekend
yeah, that won't raise any red flags with the border agencies at all
>>
>>9085823
Just show them the program information. They covered that on the web site. Chill, beo
>>
>>9085849
still inconvenient. There will be some ill-informed con-goers that won't realize you need a passport. Hell, there's already been like 3 in this thread asking that exact question.
>>
>>9085823
>>9085849
Forget which side is which, but one side is chill with Anime con peeps, the other side will search all your shit. Think it's Canada is cool, US isn't, but I'm just going by what my friends that go to AN have said. Also, my family drives through Canada whenever we visit family in Detroit and usually they don't give us a problem, but if we say that we're just passing through we'll get searched. It's more annoying than anything, but imagine trying to make it to a panel on the US side and missing it because border control was being a dick about melon pan you bought at the Canadian vendors.
>>
>>9085898
Also, love imagining drunk teenagers trying to cross back into the states after Homestuck Prom, which hosts a 19+ bar. Granted, it's legal in Canada, but even still.
>>
Is this basically going to be Homestuck con? The programming is pretty shitty.
>>

Supposedly FanWorld will be contacting artists with information.

I don't do artist alley. Is it standard for people to pay for tables before they even get approved/waitlisted to sell?

Here's how this works:

1. Entering Canada is legal without a passport as a Canadian citizen. As an American, it's also legal, but we will likely stop you.

2. Entering the USA without a passport is NOT legal and you will be turned away. This is true for both Americans and Canadians.

3. Without a passport you are between 60-80% likely to be searched and questioned. You can bring all sorts of ID, but it's considered suspicious activity to be travelling without a passport, especially if you're going back and forth frequently. Someone who passes the border more than 3 times per day will be given special attention because this is the behaviour of smugglers and people dealing in narcotics.

Enver's not technically correct, but in the way the border will treat you? He's absolutely in the right.

>>
>>9085849
Sorry for double posting: This won't matter on frequent crossings. It can implicate the event as well.

This. Just want to point out to avoid this guy at all costs. One con I was at he invited me to dinner, insisted he drive, and wouldn't tell me what restaurant. This set off major red flags for me so I declined.

Instead of just taking the hint that I wasn't interested but didn't want to be rude and outright tell him he was a creepy fuck, he took this pretty personally. He made it a point to quietly stir up a shitstorm to trash my name in the community over the next few years, but people that know me know the truth. Just be careful, girls!
>>
>>9088280
Um, passports aren't quite $200 dollars. They're more expensive if you're a first time applicant or want both the book and card, but they're not $200. Don't forget, passports are basically like a trump card anywhere you go re: they're the ultimate form of identification so they are useful to have too.

Passport cards can be used if you're only going to be doing land and sea border crossings and are significantly cheaper than getting the traditional passport books.

Adult First-Time Applicants (16 and Older)
Passport Book DS-11 $110 + $25 executive fee
Passport Card DS-11 $30 + $25 executive fee
Passport Book & Card DS-11 $140 + $25 executive fee

Adult Renewal Applicants (16 and Older)
Passport Book DS-82 $110
Passport Card DS-82 $30
Passport Book & Card DS-82 $140

NYS Enhanced Drivers Licenses also cover land and sea border crossings between Canada, US, and Mexico and are $30 + the cost of reissuing your license.
https://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-enhanced-driver-license-edl

>>
>>9088280
I... literally don't. Passport cards and enhanced licenses ARE passports. Slightly different cost, but same deal. They work as passports and are required for entering the U.S.

You can get away with a birth certificate, but there's a high chance you'll be turned away.

Also, passports are $120, enhanced licenses are $115. Five bucks isn't a significant discount.

Did you miss the part where I worked this?

This. Shitty fans in cosplay do stupid shit just because all the fucking time. They're going to do it at the border, they're gonna make everyone have a bad time, and things are going to be awful for getting into/out of the US as a nerd because of it.

Vanity Fox announced her backing out on Friday. Fan world website updates on Saturday with vanity fox still headlining the event. Sounds like false advertising
>>
>>9105970
the website itself is terrible, purr is one of the last relative cosplayers still going and she's fourth to the bottom.

this con is going to be a disaster. they can't even keep a website up to date.
>>
>>9106170
Although purblind is well known in the region, she's small fry if you compare her to Beethy. I'm not surprised Beerhy is getting the top billing now.

You know what I want to see though. Beethy back out of the con with one week notice.
>>
>>9105970
why is this fat cow judging the cosplay contest? fanworld you done goofed.
>>
>>9106246
I doubt beethy is paying a single dollar for his plane ticket so no need to ditch. Even if the con is total shit he can probably arrange something with good cosplayers in that area to get some shooting in outside of con.
>>
>>9106053
Vanity fox is already fat
>>
>>9106807
we're talking western ny here. what good cosplayers? aside from purblind, the remaining cosplay guests are old hags or fat cows
>>
>>9106809
#savage

She used to be fat. Now she's alright
>>
>>9106842
Purr is the only good cosplayer on the list now, I really don't see Beethy making a trip all the way out there to shoot with just her though.
>>
>>9105515
No. was thinking about it then no. I've seen my share of trainwrecks. I was at con no baka back in the day. I'm old enough not to want to spend any money or time on garbage
>>
>>9107438
If fan world paid for the plane ticket, why not? Also Fan Expo is the week after. Beethy probably will stick around to shoot the cosfamous there
>>
>>9106170
>>9104506
>>9107438
anon, check again. Lyz Brickley is 2nd on the list, after beethy.
>>
mfw when corey kept telling people they don't need passport to cross the border.
>>
>>9105515
I live near by so i'll be going if any gulls want to meet up
>>
>>9105970
She used to go by UsagiNoSenshi
>>
>>9112721
I didn't study Japanese but was her name basically rabbit in the moon warrior and now she's just rabbit in the moon cosplay?
>>
>>9113301
i assume that's a sailor moon reference?
>>
>>9112309
source of this?
>>
>>9115993
it's on the web site:

Do I need a Passport?
A: In most foreseeable cases, no. There are other options including Nexus, state/provincial “enhanced” licenses, etc.

Another option is how a birth certificate and valid legal ID (state or province ID card, driver's license or permit, etc.) will typically allow pedestrian or driving travel over the U.S. And Canada borders.

this is a fucking joke.

All verbiage and material on this page, and otherwise communicated (verbally, via email, online, etc.), was researched and confirmed to the best of our amateur abilities with American and Canadian customs officers and agents – especially at the Niagara Falls customs office near where Fan World will be held.

a few of my western NY friends are going. I tried to warn them but they didn't listen. bitches good luck crossing that border every day

http://www.buffalonews.com/city-region/niagara-falls/6-robbed-in-crowded-pokemon-go-spot-at-niagara-falls-park-20160727 con goers will be so safe in costume around there....

they will be on the Canadian side

Apparently Corey got banned from ConBravo this weekend for soliciting FanWorld on premises.

>making others feel unsafe
this catch-all again.
>>
>>9123228
is there anything public about this? I want to warn my friends about the con.
>>
>>9123656
It's not a catch-all.
Scroll up a bit and you'll see tons of reports of him creeping on young underage girls.
This type of behaviour is unacceptable for someone who runs a con and wants to promote their con at other cons.
>>
>>9123656
Also agree, it's not a catch all. As one of the people who posted above about his creeping, let me add that while disgusting and creepy, he's not a complete idiot. He seems to have drawn the line where he could land himself in legal trouble but everything up to that point is fair game to him.

Also, it's harder to report that someone like Corey made you feel uncomfortable v.s. if he blatantly did something like touch someone w/out permission, take a ton of photos of just you (stalker style), refused to leave you alone, that kind of thing. It might sound like a blanket statement, but it's the simpler way to explain all his unacceptable behaviors.

Still, I agree with >>9124078, a con chair should not be doing any of this shit. A lot of conventions allow other cons to promote themselves in an appropriate way, like having a booth in a merchant room, but it sounds like he either didn't apply for one or was not awarded a booth space so he and his lackeys basically hounded Con Bravo attendees about Fanworld. Not good at all, but we can watch this shitshow go down in a few weeks.

Can't wait for Homestucks with melting bodypaints to get stopped at the border because their documents are covered in paint smudges or they believed the bullshit instructions on the site about "generally" not needing a passport and just showing up with something like a school ID card.
>>
>>9124852
I know most of the Canadian homestucks will be staying to the Canadian side. They've been warned well in advance, and will hopefully be sticking together at the con. Some of the 'he made me really uncomfortable' complains are FROM homestucks, so those who are going are mostly taking advantage of a local event as a reason to see friends.

Some of them are very young, but mean well. If you see one going astray, please let them know. I'm aware most are cringeworthy, but they're good kids. The last thing I want is one of them getting into trouble while I'm not around to mom the hell out of them.
>>
>>9124852
Confirming CB! did not want to be associated with FanWorld/Corey so denied them a promo table. Corey showed up anyways and so was removed by security
>>
Man it's almost like there's a reason why there has never been a con held across national borders.
>>
>>9124078
>>9124852
It is a catch-all, mealy-mouthed way of saying someone feels threatened without saying they feel threatened. I don't doubt he was being creepy or harassing people. Using a term as generic as "feeling unsafe" in a public announcement gives no help to potential readers as to what behaviours are not ok. "Feel unsafe" is carte blanche to accuse or remove someone for just existing.
>>
>>9127198
I ran into two attendees randomly discussing how he followed them into a bathroom at Yeticon and tried to pin one against a wall during a Homestuck meetup.

Plus he's been known to creep younger women on AN and Youmacon staff. Dude is an actual creeper.

"Feel unsafe" is glib, but it's probably to protect people who don't want their name associated with the incident.
>>
>>9125425
Not to mention you can only cross the border 5 times a day and the walk is almost 2 hours.
>>
>>9083684
>tfw schengenfag
>>
>>9127198
>"Feel unsafe" is carte blanche to accuse or remove someone for just existing.

So are you saying he's being basically removed/accused for just existing?
Seems pretty clear that he has creeped on plenty of people in addition to being rejected for a promo table/soliciting without permission
>>
>>9127714
Did you miss this line in my post?
>I don't doubt he was being creepy or harassing people.
I agree that he was kicked out for good reason. I disagree with using such vague language to justify expelling someone.

From what >>9127303 said, he was clearly intimidating and harassing people in addition to violating his personal ban on soliciting. Saying the con had reports of him intimidating and harassing people is a clear and concise message. A report of "feeling unsafe" could be from something as innocuous as a trump hat or a tentacle monster costume.
>>
>>9079400
>who the fuck are these people?
Rikala is a known drama queen from the homestuck community who commissions most of her costumes. I have no idea what she is doing on a cosplay guest list.
>>
>>9084029
>Not everyone have a passport you dumb shit
>I think this is a great idea

The first thing you said is exactly why this is NOT a good idea you retard.
>>
>>9129117
She's pretty "popular" among the Rochester comm, and is doing PR for the event. She's also been a guest for UB con, a small thing held at University of Buffalo, so this is a "big break" for her. Unimpressive cosplays, really full of herself, etc etc
>>
>>9068375
>a 12 minute walk

Google estimates a 17 minute walk, actually, but that doesn't take into account moving through crowds or going through customs.

This is gonna be shit. I'm gonna park right here and wait for the fallout. :^)
>>
>>9129222
People will also be walking slower due to how hot the temperatures have been and likely will be. By the time anyone crosses, they're going to feel so sweaty and gross, more so if in a layered/warm costume. Not seeing the appeal whatsoever.
>>
>>9128235
Fair enough and thanks for clarifying what you meant. Your words just came off as a bit dismissive before.
>>
>>9129222
>>9129307
Also, the website is wrong. Per Niagara Parks:

Required Documents for Border Crossing

The documents required to cross into Canada depend on your citizenship. The information below is intended as a general guide only. For exact policy and regulation information, please contact the appropriate border services agency. (Canadian Border Services Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection)

Whether traveling by land or air, citizens of the United States must present a valid U.S. Passport or NEXUS/FAST Card. While a passport is technically not required for U.S. citizens entering Canada, you will need one to re-enter the United States. Please see the CBSA Entry Requirements for more detailed information.

Citizens of all other countries are required to present a passport to enter Canada. Visitors from some countries may also require a Temporary Resident Visa. Further documentation is sometimes required, such as a letter of invitation from a Canadian resident. For further information, see the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.

surprised Alanaleilani isn't a guest. she usually guest at all WNY cons. guest corey doesn't like fat people
>>
>>9129953
Same here, desu

>see her all over the WNY comm online
>actually see her IRL
>only talks about herself
>cosplays literally deteriorating, loose threads, no hemming, shit makeup
>k e k

Rikala's the same too, so it has to be because she's a skinny Homestuck cosplayer
>>
>>9129953
But RabbitInTheMoon and VanityFox are fat?
>>
>>9129659
>While a passport is technically not required for U.S. citizens entering Canada, you will need one to re-enter the United States.
Thus is the point that needs to be stressed the most. Even if you risk it and travel without a passport and still get into Canada you're going to inevitably get stuck in limbo between the borders on the way back.
>>
>>9130142
i got nothing. they're both better cosplayers than fatlana, so that's probably it
>>
>>9130142
Vanity Fox lost a ton of weight. She's alright now and might actually be cute is she didn't bleach her hair to death.
>>
>>9068391
>beethy

Dropped
>>
>>9068922

If you genuinely forget it, keep copies of your ID, passport and birth cert on you at all times. It's not a quick fix, it's just for emergencies. You also need someone readily available on your home country side with the same copies to verify you.
>>
>>9077701
He can run anything for shit and has a proven track record of it. No one is hiring this loser for anything high enough, so him saying he's running it is lying out his ass.

Go fuck yourself, pizza fuckboy!
>>
>>9117371

Looking forward to it!
>>
>>9131288
source? He posted on his Facebook 3 days ago with his updated con schedule and it's still there
>>
>>9130393
This. Getting out of the United States is not a problem. Unless you really fuck up or look super suspicious, Border Patrol will let people through with basic documentation. Most of the time when they ask where you are headed in Canada, they follow it up with a nonchalant, "Enjoy your stay." That said, it is much more difficult getting back into the country with your basic IDs.

On a general note, while it's too late for this con, if anyone is interested in doing more international travel via land and sea, the passport card or enhanced drivers license are good and cheaper options to have an official ID that will get you through security and borders quicker. You need the passport (the book) to do international air travel though. That said, even though the passport is the most expensive option, it's good for 10 years if you're 16+ yrs old. That basically breaks down to $13.5/yr if you are getting your first passport or $11/yr if you're renewing it, then you can cross borders by land, sea, and air without the scramble to assemble ID documents.

And good luck to those who are crossing the border for this con with the bare basics...
