Aside from LAGC in two weeks (oh wait...xP)
>>
>>9060017
I love the Warwick campus but it does have two main disadvantages. The accommodation is a bit of a walk from the main convention areas, which isn't too bad but it's a bit annoying. And it's quite far out of town, so if you want to eat something in the evening that *isn't* Domino's you're a bit stuck.

But it is lovely otherwise. Lots of space, excellent facilities for talks and panels, fantastic masquerade/omake stage, loads of awesome locations for cosplay photography. There's a reason why it's so loved.
>>
>>9060936
> eat something in the evening that *isn't* Domino's
Theres like at least two restaurants on campus, and the Dirty Duck serves proper food, Costcutter if you want cheap stuff or things to eat in your room. I ate in the building with the main stage a few nights that was really nice. Think Ayacon was the one convention where I never had to resort to Dominos?

Agree on the accom though, pot luck where you end up and some is a good 10-15 minute walk.
>>
>>9060936
I'd disagree, the rooms at least most of them are comfortably within a minute or two from the convention area, directly adjacent and easily within the distance of a drunken stumble. I do agree though about it being isolated from town. So you are kind of stuck for food but they have a decent Costco, great burger bar plus some proper food places on site. But you are kind of limited to that yeah.
>>
>>9061117
Oh, in my experience the rooms seem all pretty close I wasn't aware there were any exceptionally far away. If so I retract my previous statement.
>>
>>9060936
>>9061131
Thank god I'm bringing a car then, can do runs into the town then
>>
>>9061136
the campus is spread so it depends on which blocks they get and which rooms you're allocated. Some are right on the main venue doorstep, others further away. Most are like 5-10 minutes tops I'd say.

These fuckin spergs, mayn.
>>
>>9061151
It's good to have a car so you can get into town yeah, but honestly as other anon said you don't really need to leave campus for anything, there is pretty much anything they need on site. It is very well established venue.
>>
>>9060936
Implying that we don't eat dominos all weekend at cons by choice anyway
>>
Did anyone get a picture of the cute revolutionary girl utena on Saturday? I didn't get a chance to ask her for one and she doesn't seem to be around today.
>>
>>9061372
At sunnycon?
>>
Anyone heard back about the judged competition at Hyper Japan?
>>
>>9061426
Don't expect to hear back from Hyper Japan for anything cosplay related until the week of the con.
>>
>>9061372
If you mean Sunnycon there was a Utena there that my friend got pictures of... before her camera went missing
>>
>>9061117
I've been to the Roots restaurant during the day and it is good but it's always seemed to close rather early? And that seems to be the case for most of the other food options on campus, Dirty Duck aside, which I must admit I didn't know served food. My experience of student pubs is that they exist to serve alcohol and maybe the odd packet of crisps and that's about it. If that's not the case then I stand corrected.
>>
>>9061501
Dirty duck has proper cooked meals, the student bar upstairs has a great priced burger and chips menu.
>>
>>9061176
Incidentally, i have no idea how TokyoToys is still going, unless they are funded by some rich guy who docent give a fuck.

Their store in london was never busy when i went there and their website sucks, and now they are opening a new one in glasgow?
>>
>>9060091
What was the Sunnycon competition like? It had a cash prize last year but I've heard nothing about it this year.
>>
>>9061588
LittleGem came first but haven't heard about any other places. Heard the competition barely lasted 10 minutes so probably not many entries
>>
Any news about EuroCosplay entries?
>>

>>
>>9061695
how about you leave
>>
>>9061680
Not sure if Eevee cosplay is entering. I was reading the comments on one of her recent photos and she mentioned entering as Pyrrah on the Saturday, but I think they have a separate section for normal/eurocosplay entries on Saturday but it isn't as big as the one on Sunday.
Dunno if she's entering for costume or performance though.

>>
>>9061750
eevee is just entering the masquerade. I would presume not costume, seeing as her boyfriend made most of the costume (and it's still shit???), but as it is eevee i wouldn't put it past her to not read the rules
>>
I kinda want to go to LAGC because I've never been to an Anime League event and I want to see just how much of a clusterfuck they are. If I go in with low expectations I can't be too horribly surprised, right...?

I'm the one running the AL investigation blog, and want to go back in there first hand and see what my record will be in when I first throttle MT by the collar.

Plus I'm one of those stupid saps who want to give the brainwashed kids the benefit of doubt.

Since I may be coming into enough money to travel and cosplay again this sounds good

Also why not discuss meets on other media so as to try to thin how many people can see details directly?
(Have irc group, kick assholes/cringe release time/location in run up to con)
>>

It's a good idea in terms of meet quality, but it's not really a cgl meet anymore at this point.

Fair point
Obscuring it risks turning it into a secret club type thing which obviously isn't the aim
It's just trying to find a way to prevent people who have nothing to do with CGL/no interest turning up for grills
>>
Does anyone know why there are like, two cons back to back in Northern Ireland in, like, a month? Seems pretty quick. Regardless, I just got a Survey Corp uniform because it's actually my first time cosplaying, and I'm confidence building by using a pretty basic setup.

Well I have to say something.

Now that the UK is splitting itself apart, MT will be yet another step forward to world domination.

Something to think about.
>>
So now that the pound is really low for a while, what british indie brands are out there? Or any nice accessory brands that would be good for lolita?
>>
>>9071282
Peacockalorum makes really nice custom accessories, then you've got some small indie brands but I don't remember the names of any of them. There's that one that did the fox print and the mushroom print or something, but I don't remember the name. I would say the best bargains to be had right now would be commissioning from UK cosplayers and prop makers- you could get some real bargains from Rogue Props if they've got commission slots free.

Is there a list of every decent con in the UK? I get the occasional one brought to my attention but I have no clue what's in the works for the rest.

I think the closest major place that would have a con would be Newcastle but that'd take a train journey
>>
>>9071360
This
I have seen a large list before but didn't save link
Was a Google doc if I remember
>>
>>9071360
http://animecons.co.uk/events

If you lose the link, you can search UK anime conventions on Google to refind it. I'm not sure it's comprehensive though
>>
>>9070458
Indeed. Liberals are such a cancer on here.

>>9071228
Not really. MT is being probed by some anons since things kept getting boring on the threads and the hate on MT based on old confirmed events where there is a high likelihood of the same incompetency still happening from small signs seen at each of MT's events.

Put simply there is some potential for MT getting shamed this season at a crucial time for the UK.
>>
>>9071322
I've just got no idea how to make it, and I've no experience. Does anywhere sell a green yukata that matches Zoro's, that I can alter myself with the toggles?

US anon here
Will more people from the US come to UK cons because of Brexit and the Pound becoming weaker to the US Dollar?
>>
>>9071926
There's no point. You get more con for your dollar in the US than you ever will at tiny UK events even with the crash in value.

We have literally nothing to offer since we have neither original Japanese creators nor dub related personality access.

>>9071894

>>

>>
What should I use for a pistol for my cosplay? The laws in the UK are so shit you can't even buy a replica unless you're a member of a reenactment society or theatre club.
>>
>>9073266
you can buy a two tone airsoft and spray it the right colour. It's just buying that's restricted when it comes to airsoft, not the actual owning. Yeah, bit weird, but this is the country where you can own a semi automatic 12 gauge combat shotgun with a 20 shell drum magazine, but not a pump action with room for more than 2 shells in the magazine, laws are a hodge podge reactionary mess.
>>
>>9073285
What sort of spray should I use?

>>
>>9073364
I've only ever been to MCM's. If you've been to them, how does it compare to the other conventions?
>>
>>9073359
Depends on how you want the gun to come out, but a metallic acrylic would do the job. Humbrol do a black that I've used to decent effect, and I've heard good things about the chrome Halfords do.
>>
>>9073516
Well I've ordered one of these bad boys. It is only plastic, which is to be expected, at just under £23. At least once I get it I can get to work on the holster.
>>
>>9073364
>using animeleague, aka literally the bottom scrapings of the barrel, as a judge of UK cons
>>
>>9073527
Plastic is less likely to freak out con security, some would refuse a metal one for being heavy enough to use as a club. Just remember to either paint the tip of the barrel orange or cover it with an orange cap. Technically leaving the tip blue would be enough legally, but again, con security, they're more used to orange.
>>
>>9073597
I'm gonna find an orange tip, at least then I can take it off if I take any photos.
>>
>>9073600
It might come with an orange barrel plug, my last one did, and that was enough.

>>
>>9073859
13? jesus. who do they have?
>>
>>9074293
I think we can safely say the guest status is over saturated if you invite anyone and everyone now and low quality like Eevee
>>
>>9073364
NOBODY tells anyone ALCon events are good. Anyone who does has absolutely no idea. I'd rather wear cosplay down a London back alley full of hobos, that go to an ALCon event. Less chance of getting raped by MT too!

>>
>>9074293
Hollita, Madam Bella, Teraana, Khloe Kaos, Kallimack, Demorafairy, Envyious, Squeakehb, EJ Allen, Heroes of Geek, Kellyjane, Gingersnap and Anna-S.

MT and Madam Bella are pretty much in bed together now. A cosplayer I spoke to (who was a reg at AL events) saw the light at Cardiff AL, quit, and it's rumoured MT and Madam Bella coordinated in her guest dismissal from Cardiff Film and Comic Con.
>>
>>9074878
So only a few actual names or cosplayers who could even win the competitions they judge.

Not surprising, good names cost more.

AL cons do the same trick small local cons and really clever cons do. Get in average tier cosplayers, tell they're that their cosplay is amazing and invite them as a guest.
This makes the cosplayer feel like they're the next Yaya Hann, they HAVE to be a guest now.
So the con offers them a free ticket, maybe a table at the con in best cases and leave it at that.
So then the cosplayer pays their own expenses, travel, hotel, food, and often make a new costume for a convention that they would never actually want to go to. But the con has got them now, but now the con has feed their ego enough that the cosplayer will do anything to be a guest there. Because they means they're a pro and famous cosplayer. They've been conned.

It means conventions get cosplayers to work for them at no cost to the convention.

Occasionally the cosplayer might sell prints and break even but highly unlikely.

>>
>>9075016
You say good names cost more.. there are plenty of excellent cosplayers in the UK who would be much better guests and wouldn't charge to attend, but they don't force their way into events. The only reason why these average nobodies are "guests" will be because they've offered themselves on a plate to attend just to get attention.
>>
>>9076463
I don't even know what it is and I'm looking at a picture of it.

Some said cosplayers sometimes do the whole 'WTF am I doing at an AL event?', makes their voice heard, and MT goes around 'threatening lawsuits' and using the 'You'll never be able to attend a convention again' threats.

My LAGC report.

https://averyunhappyweeaboo.wordpress.com/2016/07/03/london-anime-gaming-con-report/

I'm sorry. Saturday was all I could take before I was pushed to the edge.
>>
Thanks for writing it up. It's good to have actual reports of this rather than another iteration of 'MT is a creep'
>>
>>9084165
'The rule for under-18 attendees (or those who can’t provide ID) is that we mark their wristband with a Sharpie so they can’t be served at the bars. There were some volunteers in my section who just didn’t know about this rule – either that or they just didn’t care.'

Or maybe more of an easier way for MT to pick out which under-age attendees to creep on. Honestly hasn't AL done something similar like this in the past? It makes absolutely 0 sense because normally if you look underage and order an alcoholic drink from a bar they just ask to see ID and if you can't provide won't sell you the drink. Something stinks here.
>>
>>9084286
Now you put it that way, you have a very good point. I have no proof but pretty much every 'Big Geek Meet' of theirs involves ending up at a pub, and as such meets are unofficial, ID isn't really asked for by AL.
>>
>>9084286
It's for if people are giving kids drinks or if they're mine sweeping.
>>
Any news on Glasgow Comic Con?
>>
>>9084165
That Asbestos safety risk was so retarded among the many safety failings.
Would have left if I saw that as an attendee.

Thanks for making the report. It is nice to have an opinion backed by recent information.
>>
>>9084364
That's really down to bar staff to keep an eye out though isn't it? I mean really if they are so worried about kids drinking at an all ages event wouldn't it make sense to just ban drinking alcohol outright?
To be fair it seems sort of sketchy to have drinking at an all ages event anyways. Most events that allow alcohol consumption are generally 18+.

Otherwise the staff and volunteers should just be there to keep an eye out and ask people they suspect may be underage to show some ID like in most bars in general.

>>9084324
Yeah, they do generally I think but there is no distinction made via wristband or whatever as to who is overage or underage at most (recent) events. It's down to the bar staff to ID. But I'm sure I've heard people mention an event MT organised a few years back where specifically under 18s had to have some sort of identification. If anyone has info about this they could probably elaborate better than I can.
>>
>>9084535
>That's really down to bar staff to keep an eye out though isn't it?
Yeah, that's why they're tagging wrist bands, so the bar/con staff can easily spot under 18s and have something to fall back if there's an investigation into underage drinking at cons. Also +18 panels.
>>
>>9066064
Doesn't she buy her like? No way would there be 14k legit spergs that like this wenches cosplay.
>>
>>9084535
They checked my ID when I bought my ticket/got my wristband this morning
>>
>>9084264
>>9084286
>>9084528
>>9084535
Oh yes. I forgot to mention something in the post.
In our list of people that were registered, paid, etc (that we had to cross off/give wristbands), there was a 'blacklist'.
I volunteered for LAGC using a fake name because I've pissed him off on the forums...and my real name was on there, among about 30-40 others.
>>
>>9084165

I'm glad you pointed out how rude the AL staff truly are. Several years ago at LAGC I remember standing at the food van about to be served when about 3 or 4 of the twats out of nowhere cut right in front of me and the queue behind without saying anything to get their own meals. They're also very unhelpful & show very little passion for their roles at running these cons. "Anime fans" creating fun for fans my arse. Them shouting and shoving volunteers around sounds about right, looks like nothing has changed. Glad that was my last AL con. I hope others see the light soon too.
>>
>>9082163
He is a joke
>>
>>9084740
any notable names? Big guy slim on there?
>>
>>9084805
>>9084740
I have been to three LAGC events and from an outsider point of view, I found that all of the AL staff was very helpful. Although most of them didn't know what was going on, people were running around to find more information for me.

The only thing I could really complain about is that the convention was not very well labeled. I didn't even know about some of the little room scattered around the place until someone pointed out that there was an "upstairs" section in the gaming area.
>>
>>9085565
Yep, big guy slim was there alright. Oh, who else? *thinks* Some people from the Ame and Toko committees too, and some names/aliases that I have received inside AL info for the blog as well.
>>
>>9085582
Agreed, AL staff are helpful to attendees because as they see it, the AL name is on their shoulders. They put so much time in establishing themselves as a name that new fans immediately turn to. One thing us volunteers ARE told, however, is not to use our own initiative and common sense; instead we are instructed to go find someone who does know the solution to attendees' problems, which can sometimes frustrate them.

But yes, the venue is not labelled very well at all. The map in the conbook may as well have been made using MS Paint. The outside courtyard area is hidden away at the back that not everyone notices it's even there, hence why it's never packed. And yes, the upstairs gaming area (where I found the asbestos sign), isn't signposted at all.
>>
>>9085621
Who's on there from Toko?
>>
>>9085836
Who's on there from either committee?
>>
>>9085836
>>9085851
From Toko, Sakuraslight (he hates them so I understand why) and Snowking (can't understand why him tho).
From Ame, Jenna Pateman (she's the dealer liason).

Those are the only names I remember.

WTF, Jenna's probably the most inoffensive person in the UK scene. If someone at AL has taken against her, of all people, then they really have some severe paranoia issues.
>>
>>9086119
This is hilarious because Jenna is the NICEST person on the fucking person in the UK con scene and the idea that she's banned from anything is utterly ridiculous.

What did she do? Not give Towers a big enough smile or say Hello happily enough to him?!
>>
>>9086298
I might just do that. Thanks for the idea. And also there was stuff we were told about on the day that wasn't covered in the handbook, such as the 'blacklist'.
>>9086297
I guess we would have 'politely' shooed them away.
>>9086480
This is MT we're talking about here.
>>9086537

>>

>>
>>9084740
Would love to see the full list of black listed names, that's a badge of honour right there.
>>
>>9087706
Same. Wanna see if I'm on it.
>>
NadesicoKitty seems like an odd one to be banned, I don't think I've heard of her even taking interest in that event, never mind attending.

I can understand some other outspoken UK committee members being on that list. Maybe there's someone of the AL committee with a vendetta against her.
>>
dony blame me, I voted no.

Sorry I can't provide that badge of honour as I never got around to taking a picture of it. Guess I'm kicking myself for not doing that.

Well there are a lot of AL committee members, so each of them have axes to grind with all sorts of people, whether it be Ame, Toko, Kita, Sunny, Auchinawa, so on.
>>
>>9087916
It would probably be easier to make a list of people, cons and dealers that AL didn't have an axe to grind with.

What a prick.
>>
I gotta ask, what is LAGC when compared to something like MCM?

I've only ever been to MCM's, and they were all well organised, sometimes with high profile guests, sometimes with medium profile.
>>
>>9090599
Well I got banned so I don't know, but I hazard a guess that it was. The little man-boy has such a thin skin.
>>
>>9090607
MCM has the big names because it's more recognised, has bigger pockets, has the attention of big companies, and is able to get the Excel Centre. All LAGC can get is the fucking Rocket Complex...

...and has to spend as much as they can to acquire names that some people MIGHT know. The cosplayers and abridgers are all AL bosom buddies, so they come for free.
>>
>>9090897
MCM is a commercial event, it's on the door sales and it's run as a business.
LAGC is a bastardisation of the LAC, both were fan run and use the fan run convention method of funding (Although I can't say that LAGC follows this to the letter). The difference between LAGC and MCM is that the venue has a small capacity, the genre is narrower and they don't market it to be anything anywhere as big as MCM.

I guess it's time for me to make my statement.

MT, welcome to the internet.

My real friends know that I am not the confrontational type. A t-shirt?! Seriously?! Yes I went to LAGC, but pinning the blame on doing something like that on me is just plain sad. I actually thought doing something like that is pretty infantile as well; it's a waste of not only a shirt, but of pen ink. The police have better things to do. No really, they do. And my real friends, who are already on your blacklist, would believe me more than you.

You had your chance long ago to be cooperative with the rest of the anime community here, but you blew it by creating your own exclusive club, and not letting anyone out. Grow up, son.

But I'm sorry you feel this way, though. I think our love affair is starting to show its cracks and I'm sorry to hear that you don't love me anymore. Now I'm all alone. I'll have to cry in my body pillow and get my copy of Strictly Ballroom out now. Perhaps I'll find true love at another con.

(ps. Asbestos kills.)

[Oh, wait. Why am I even writing this? No shits given.]
>>
>>9093435
You should have got out when I did. Note to potential ALCon and LAGC volunteers. DON'T! If you volunteer you are promoting poisonous behaviour in our community. Also you will get nothing out of it, yes you will help make a shit storm of an event run to an acceptable level, but the main staff don't care and will rely on you to always do this. Let them learn that they can't just soak up the geek-fame without lifting a finger.

>Good wigs are worth their weight in gold

So why do all his look like he shops at Party City?
>>
>>9092641
>>
>>9093570
plot twist, he does

seriously though what shit is he spouting? i've literally never seen him wear a non shit wig with a single costume
>>
>>9093573
It's so he can seem wise. And have something to say and post because that is what he enjoys doing most in the whole world.
>>
>>9093466
Looks alright for wip but the breastplate doesn't fit, probably didn't wear the corset whilst shaping it
>>
>>9093585
Your nitpick makes no sense though, it's an underbust corset so wouldn't affect the breastplate
>>
>>9093604
It really clearly doesn't fit her bust anon though, even if other anon's reasoning didn't make total sense

Here are the only four costumes where Andy has used a wig and not his real hair. 'a good wig is worth its weight in gold' literally what would you know andy
>>
>>9093609
those 4 images describe my 4 emotions when seeing andy in a wig
>>
>>9093607
might just be the wrong bra.
>>
>>9093604
Not the same anon, but I take it you've never seen a women in a corset before? boobs move. If you pattern it in your bra it won't fit in the corset.
>>
>>9093609
He wouldn't know a good wig if it hit him. Thanks for the laugh anon
>>
>>9093617
Helen? Is that you?
>>
>>9093609

I'm disappointed he pulled out of SWC, I needed a good laugh watching him try to get that shitty prosthetic over his inflated ego
>>
>>9093630
And now he's acting like he's better than SWC and laughing at people who are going.
>>
>>9093466
If you don't like the criticism maybe you shouldn't post on cgl of all places?....
>>
>>9093630

at least he might stop posting pictures of his cock in leather trousers now
>>
>>9093630
I checked out his cosplay page. See what all the fuss was about. He thinks a lot of himself doesn't he, for doing things a lot of other cosplayers are already doing.
>>
>>9093659
Self important asshole. Only met him once, wouldn't reccomend.
>>
>>9093648
For now. He's wearing the costume to dragoncon so
>>
>>9093677
Pawn him off in the Americans. What a delight.
>>
>>9093684
Well the uk cos comm doesn't want him, the larp con doesn't want him, all he has left its to go abroad where tales of Boobgate don't linger.
>>
>>9093647
I don't think she posted herself, friend

I'll eat my hat if she actually does delete and its not just an attention ploy
>>
>>9094968
>>9094993
She is the Boris Johnson of the cosplay world.

We all think she's thick as shit then pulls this for attention.
>>
>>9094992
>>9094933
Who else is in that competition who it could be then?
>>
>>9094968
>end of an era

>>
>>9094933
Helen is crazy man, I know her IRL and she's a complete control freak.

They also managed to create something that they could barely move in.
>>
>>9095155
They didn't create it.
Artifakes did
>>

>>
>>9095303
ecg will be uploading videos of all the performances to their youtube channel soon, like every year.
>>
>>9095405
Excellent. I will get the popcorn ready.
>>
>>9095039
I went to the one where they first tried to move it to the 02 and i'm hoping they've improved a lot of the issues it had. It mostly needed that cosplay/main stage to not be in the worst place possible. The one good point is all the restaurant selections and the cloak room was free if I remember correctly. I'm only going Sunday. I was aiming to be in the judged competition but I don't think I got a place but I've paid for a ticket now and I'm probably just going to hang out with friends and try wearing out a new costume.
>>
>>9095828
Yeah - I went to that one too. I wan not impressed.

HJ have really been supporting cosplay for a few years now. In summer 2014 they had one of the best events for cosplay. These days it is a unloved sideshow
>>
>>9095039
I've been twice, last November it was cold af cos they had it on the tobacco docks. I don't think they thought that one through. Also I paid for a Sake event, only for it to start over an hour late and you got like 3 shots. The cosplay event doesn't feel like a big deal like it would at other places sadly. But I go for the music acts and the exhibitors so it depends what you want out of it.

Oh no! EeVee contributed so much to the UK cosplay scene:
- cringe
- being cosplays equivalent to a Jeremy Kyle guest
- side splitting chuckles
- tutorials on how never to put on your eyeliner unless you want to look like L
- sewing skills the likes of which I have never seen in someone with both thumbs and all eight fingers
- paid Facebook likes economy
>>
>>9073364
LAGC is trash
>>
>>9096746
Does it even have a competition?
>>
>>9072316
She can't enter it as a judged costume display anyway. Even if she has made pieces of it. She would only be allowed to enter it as an Unjudged performance. You can not do an Unjudged costume display. You can only enter a handmade costume or if you're on stage with the costume creator :/
>>
>>9097004
creator can however enter her without going on stage if he says she is modeling it for him.
>>
>>9096770
yes. £100 prize
>>
>>9096770
yes and it lets their guests enter and win every time
>>
>>9097060
probably because if they didn't, then no good cosplayers would be entering the competition
