Why are Otakuthon's guests so much better compared to AN? Do they have more budget or is the guest coordinator at AN just shit?

i'm pretty sure im going to be going to otakuthon in quebec this year. it'll be my first con, but the website makes it look decent. is there something or things i should avoid? will the convention be in english? im bilingual but i'd imagine all the events are in english. im thinking of going friday and saturday unless you recommend to go sunday as well if it's still active. i just have no idea what to expect..

Big events like opening/closing ceremonies or the Masquerade will be in both. Panels varies with the panelists: some are French, others English, others bilingual. If you're going Saturday and Friday, might as well buy a weekend ticket (which includes Sunday) since it'll be cheaper (currently weekend badges are $50 while Fri+Sat combined is $80). I can't describe the experience to you, but there are plenty of 'first con what-to-expect' type things you can google.

There are lolita guests at AN because the local comm integrated itself within the con. A lot of comms nearby don't understand that this has been years in the making. Also, many cons in the area do not see fashion guests as a viable revenue source. I tend to agree with them given the fact that so few lolitas came to most of the Otakuthon events, aside from the fashion show.

I understand the sizing issue, I personally can't fit into VM, but to not go to the panels was absurd to me. The translators with guest in tow even asked me on Sunday, where everyone where when I visited her booth. It's heartbreaking.
There's a huge difference in support from lolitas in American cons and it's embarrassing to see that.

Oh for sure, though AN's in all honesty faulty scheduling probably played a role too, seeing as VMs only panel was scheduled at the exact same time as both the Akira photo op and general harajuku fashion panel, and directly after the mori/visual kei/boystyle panel, immediately before masquerade registration (which you would've had to be lining up for during the vm panel), so anyone involved in any of those four wouldve been screwed. Usually I've found the con's been a bit more careful in that respect to avoid conflicts of similar events, was pretty disappointed.

Vm's panel was right after Akira, not at the same time, and was in the same general area. The mori thing was as the same time as Akira's stuff though.I dont think this is a good excuse because people just didnt care to go to any of the guests stuff. Like shit you could take a picture with Akira why go to a mori panel instead of that? Or even that you could go to Akira's panel, then go to the mori thing if you wanted to support both.

Akira's Q&A had very few lolitas, which was embarrassing. Vm's one was better and was very informative but you would think that if 130 ppl were gong to the tea party we could do better for panels.

The board game meet was fun, definitely looking forward to the next one.

That's what I mean if we could sell out tea party so quickly, where was everyone for these panels? There was definitely an issue with scheduling of fan-run panels and guest activities, but if it's a guest Q&A, I would attend that above the other.
I didn't attend the mori, vk and boystyle panel. Was is a popular panel? mori is never that popular within the fashion show and I would be surprised at getting such a high turnout.

I've been to the both locations and they're good. The Carlton one is a grillhouse that sells everything by the skewer, it's delicious but gets pricy quick unless you don't eat much and go exclusively for the cheap stuff (which is still delicious).
The ramen house is, well, ramen; mostly standard stuff, but they're among the higher end of the ones I've tried.

I'm down for either one, leaning toawrds Carlton for the novelty for the people that haven't tried it before

I can still see her page so I'm not sure but she's posting on her instagram so shes not out of cosplaying. I'm assuming she's not happy with the reach of her facebook so she's going to instagram to get her attention fix. And I agree if she didn't lighten her skin so much it would be a lot better for her. She wants to get into makeup but anyone looking at her photos will be like "you can't even match foundation"

we did our first meetup a couple of weeks ago actually at uncle tetsu's angel cafe followed by board games. there were initially 8 of us at the cafe, than a couple of guys dropped out when we went to boardgames. at the end of the night we all had a really good time and agreed to meet up again.

everyone was really nice and no one spilled spaghetti or acted in a weird or creepy way. the event was quite casual though, so there's no expectation for cosplay or wigs, etc. i'll admit that the demographic is mostly guys, though that's the norm for my most 4chan meetups anyways :d

I ended up going to this bubble tea/billiard place and playing some guys for $50 which quickly keep getting doubled after each round and some how they ended up thinking I sharked them for alot of money that they didn't . They then tried "giving" me one of their girls but I talked them into just giving me the original $200 which I thought was our final double or nothing and also have them take me to a good bar to kill time. Long story short, I ended up at a whore house in Korea town and now I'm at a wedding. Also my phone has 3% battery and I'm not sure if I'm going to make it home.
