I need this mold.
I've started book marking molds on stay and aliexpress.

I also tried my first resin piece last night, and I messed up. I didn't modge podge the paper enough, so the resin got through and left wet spots. I'll just chock it up to first time mistakes and make sure I do more layers of modge podge on the next one.

Complete resin n00b here. Can you use a DIY silicone caulk mold (the ghetto ass method of caulk+dishsoap+water=mold) for two part resin? Or should I stick to normal mold making materials?

I've been trying to dome the backs of a couple of my resin pieces but for some reason, they keep spilling over after I leave it to cure, what am I doing wrong?
>>
>>9008610
It could be a number of things. I've had problems with pieces that have a lot of angles/pointy corners and also with one brand of resin that was a bit runnier than others I've had and took a lot longer to set
>>
>>9008610
I have this problem with doming, usually it means I put to much resin on and did not let it thicken up enough first. Or it was a bit at an angle and I did not notice.
Mostly, I have learned that my table leans a little to the left. Now I just check everything with a level before I get to work and save myself some headaches.

Today I got my first heat gun and tried it out for the first time after about a year of thinking it was an unnecessary single purpose tool and popping bubbles with toothpicks.
GET THE THING.
This shit is magic.
All the damn bubbles gone, in an instant.
>>
>>9008819
wait , what? how are you using it?
>>
>>9008851
how do you think anon is using it?

see where anon mentions how they used to pop bubbles with toothpicks, but now the heat gun makes the bubbles "gone in an instant"?

how can you not understand what this means?
>>
>>9008851
Heat guns are pretty much like hotter hair driers. Are you asking how they used it like, how close they held it? Setting? Stuff like that? Or something else.

I was wondering, does anybody have a favorite youtube channel to watch for tutorials? There seems to be a million resin tutorial videos.

I also had a friend share a link to a video showing how to resin fabric for use. I'd like to try it after I practice a bit more. I think I have some fabric around with some cute designs.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good resin brand? I'm looking for one with a longer pot time. I'm so tired of using easycast because for some reason it ends up soft and takes forever to cure. There's only evirontex pour on resin, amazing casting resin and easycast here so I'd probably have to buy online.
>>
>>9008373
Where can I buy this?
>>
>>9009138
It's pretty much universally agreed that easycast is shit. A lot of gulls here have good experiences with Amazing.

I'm using amazing cast, on the suggestion of friends and gulls. It's been pretty easy for me to use as a novice.

I wish I didn't have such a shitty camera. But I'm currently trying out my first "mold" pieces. These are actually in some cheap plastic packaging. So if I have to destroy the packaging, it's no big deal. If the resin breaks, then it's a lesson learned.

I'm thinking of doming the backs with some color, I'm thinking light blue for the birds, but what color should I do the unicorn? Maybe purple?
>>
>>9009015
Couldn't you just back the fabric part, modge podge the thing, then dome it? Seems like a lot of extra trouble.

Anyway, does anyone who uses silicone molds have any tips for making pieces come out not-cloudy? or is it just something I"m going to have to deal with?
>>
>>9009189
I think the Amazing Casting Resin here is only available in white? Doesn't it cure really fast as well? I spend a ton of time mixing gradients and I make bigger batches so it might not work too well for me.
>>9009204
Those are so cute! I thought the birds and the unicorn were clay at first. Pink would look really cute with the unicorn imo.

They're actually stickers! They're from Lemon Co. I got a couple sheets of them at a Tokyo Japan Lifestyle shop in a mall. Shopkawaii.com sells the brand, but not the particular sheets I bought. I like them since they're so cute and a small size. Each sheet has a ton of them, and resin didn't seem to bother the color on them at all.

Where are you anon? If you're in the uk I know of a non-branded resin with a super long pot life

>>9009210
If that's the finish of the mould then you just have to deal with it, dome or varnish the pieces and they'll come up shiny again
>>
>>9009486
Not that anon but very interested in the non branded resin.
>>
>>9009594
Be warned, it's really nice once it's set but the pot life is 10 hours and it takes around 3 days to fully cure. Although it might be a bit better now the weather is getting warmer

To the anons with etsy shops, are you guys actually making a profit? Or are you guys breaking even? If anyone is making a profit, do you have advice for other anons? Just curious because I want to get into resin/jewelrymaking and possibly open a shop in the future
>>
>>9009766
Haha, no but then I just make stuff because I enjoy doing it and selling the odd piece means I can buy more/fancier supplies. I'm not the best at self promotion which you really need to do well online.

I table at cons occasionally, got my first one in a month that I'll have resin pieces at so it will be interesting to see how they go down there
>>
>>9008361
Where do frames like this one come from? I've only seen one place on etsy that sells singles for like 5 bucks each.
>>
>>9008371
I'm going to warn you that those nail art spools of foil are only colored on one side and can be a major pain in the butt if you're trying to do precision work. You're probably better off using a gel pen and a ruler

Posting some progress of stuff I've been working on. Still struggling with the bubbles but I know they are from when I'm doming the pieces from being too impatient. Preferring using the UV resin but I am finding that the pieces are curving despite how thin the layers are. I have tried using normal resin to try and get the cloudy effect but you really have to babysit it. Any suggestions on clear cast resin that doesn't take so long to cure?
>>
I have a question. Can amazing clear cast be put in the oven? I don't mean to try to set the resin faster. But I mean after it's finished hardening. There are tutorials for doing a combo of polymer clay figures and using resin to make a pool/ocean/aquarium affect and you need to bake some parts of it after your resin has already hardened. The tutorials I watch usually use EnviroTex lite. So I'm not sure if amazing clear cast will act the same in the oven as EnviroTex lite.

They sell a bunch of nail art stuff. Including this 30pc mold set for like, $9. They're suppose to be for UV resin.

They're quiet pretty. I have a question, are the flowers dried or paper? There's so many tiny flowers blooming right now since we got a decently wet winter this year. I'm trying to dry them for resin pieces and just doll stuff in general.

I also just poured my first colored resin test. So, here's hoping the color is good.

Does anybody have favorite shops to buy molds from? I'm saving molds I like on etsy atm.

Yes, it works better if the frame's quite deep. If it's not the resin will go everywhere unless you're extremely slow and careful. It cures fine.

This video may give you an idea of how to do things. I also use a popsicle stick to help drip the resin in, instead of pouring it from the cup itself. It's easy to get the hang of and pretty fun to drop all sorts of stuff in.
>>
>>9008665
Not the original anon who commented but I just want to say I followed your tips myself and it made a world of difference in my doming, so thank you!
>>
>>9011229
>>9011359
Thanks! I'm still working on keeping them straight. I hope the next batch is better.

>>9011387
I screw them once they are dry with a pair of tweezers. Sometimes when they are still soft, it depends on the situation, but I prefer the first way

and yes, that is lace
>>
>>9011195
Sorry, but these look incredibly messy. There's bubbles everywhere, the gold glitter portions look incredibly bad, and it overall looks really lumpy. You seriously have to work on designing pieces before starting to cast. The color combos and designs look really thrown together as well.
>>
>>9011234
Check on the piece frequently. If you're embedding things in UV resin stick the item down with a blob of resin, and when it's cured pour in the rest of the layer, otherwise it'll move and it cures too quickly to catch in time unless you're obsessively babysitting. If you get a lot of bubbles leave the resin to sit for a couple of minutes and run a lighter over it before you set it. If you're not using a lamp keep checking every couple of minutes to see if some unfortunate insect or bit of dirt got itself embedded in your piece.
>>9011391
That should work- but careful not to overload the stick with resin. It's better to spend 10 minutes dripping resin in than two hours cleaning the resulting mess.
>>
>>9010860

The flowers are dried nail art ones. I also managed to get a bag of dried heather which is used for crafts which provides a little variation. I've dried a few flowers but have yet to try them. When using them take things slow and use in reeeealy thin layers to avoid bubbles if you're using uv resin.
>>
>>9011195
I love these but I agree with >>9011604, the colors look off and the glitter looks dirty and uneven in certain areas. I also feel like the glitter makes it look gritty and the surface rough and patchy.

If you work in making the glitter layer more even and match the colors more properly to the others then they will look a lot better. But the designs are very lovely.
>>
>>9011195

I also feel as though some of the pieces added onto the base key takes away from the whole design? This is particularly with the blue to the left and the pink above it - it's just not in proportion and you don't know where to look. Try to get things that tie in well together.
The clear one with the star is passable, and I like the blue with the wings and bow but I'm not feeling the heart on top because it's simply too big. Maybe try a smaller one?
Good first attempt though, I look forward to seeing more. Dont be discouraged.

Sharing my latest work (it's a brooch). Any advice on materials for the base? I made a base out of an ordinary thick cardboard, but I hate it since it's difficult to cut precisely and it tends to split between the layers.
Also, sharing a tip: don't fucking buy Padico's "Decollage Coat"! Such a waste of money, I'm truly disappointed. It's just an ordinary decoupage varnish, and it sucks compared to Mod Podge or Decopatch. I'm really mad with it since it fucked me a piece up when I totally wasn't expecting this.
>>
>>9011794
Damn. And if it's Padico, it must've been pretty expensive too. I'm still looking for base ideas myself. I don't have access to tools meant for cutting wood or acrylic, otherwise I'd do that.
>>

Still not as kawaii as when the Japanese make it. You need to step up your craft game until it looks like this.
>>
>>9011806
It was like 400 yen for 20ml excluding delivery. Not much of a loss, but still unpleasant. I thought maybe coated polymer clay could work? But it would surely increase the final price... Or maybe Padico's wooden air dry clay? They promise it to be durable... Gotta try sometime.

Anon from here. I tried practicing doing some color resin last night. I don't have resin pigment so I just used the eyeshadow technique. I still got some bits of the shadow that didn't mixed. You can't see them from the front just the back. I tried doing a little bit of a swirled effect. You can see it in the flash pictures, but the non-flash is more true to the general colors. I also overpoured my mold so I transered some into the extra mold and made the panda this morning. I forgot to babysit the resin so some of my glitter went in front of the panda. Also didn't notice a hair got in with the alpaca.

Besides the stuff I pointed out, did I do a good job with the color blending? Also, I noticed on a couple of the clear pieces I have a bunch of micro bubbles(the panda and the bird one, not so noticeable in the unicorn one), should I go ahead and let my resin sit longer before pouring to get rid of them along with using the lighter? Could it be the way I mixed it? Or something else?

Thanks everyone for the kind and honest critique. I appreciate a lot.

Here I have some wings I made with more even glitter. I do like more the ones with uneven distribution (the glitter sunk), because it seems to add more definition.
I will work more with the hearts. I still suffer a lot the bubbles.
>>
>>9011195
Where did you get the molds for these?
>>
>>9011910
If you mix powder+resin and let it sit for a bit the clumps sink.
The colours are fine but you could make the swirls a bit more saturated, it blends in too much and looks too dark as is. Adding in a tiny bit of white would help, or just use more eyeshadow.
Next time leave the resin until it gets tacky before you add in glitter- I've gotten impatient and added it while it was still quite runny and it was a disaster (at least your panda looks cute). Also, if you add the flowers/sequins at different stages, you get a more layered look, so that might be something to experiment with.
You should let the resin sit for a couple of minutes before pouring. I run a lighter over the surface, pour, let it sit, and run a lighter over it again to get rid of as many bubbles as possible. You might be mixing too vigorously, that tends to create microbubbles.

These are cute pieces though.
>>
>>9012875
I appreciate the input. So you think if I did thinner layers instead of one or two thicker layers, and popped bubbles. That should cut down on my micro bubbles?

I think if I do another panda piece or similar. I'll do the sequins first, then the next layer I'll do the flowers, then the animal. Or vice versa depending on the mold.
>>
>>9012996
It won't be a guaranteed "no more bubbles" method, but you can control it better, in my opinion.
Good luck, your pieces look cute so far!
>>
>>9012999
Thank you. I like making these and experimenting, I'm hoping to find some molds this weekend since I had to destroy the one I was using to demold my pieces. I also just tried the mold method where you using packing tape. Worked out pretty good.

It might be because of the rain, yeah. I made a batch a couple of days ago when it was sunny, it rained overnight, and it took until today for the pieces to actually harden properly.
Just wait it out. >>9013110 might work better, if you're impatient. 2 weeks of rain will fuck up the curing time, and even if they don't end up curing you can dome them to make them sturdy.

So the company that makes Clearcast 7050 resin just released this new resin that is suppose to cure crystal clear from pic related. Does anyone have experience with their resin from the Clearcast line? Was it good in ypur opinion?

I want to buy this new resin they made but I am wondering how their other line holds up before I purchase from there store.

Has anyone here used fishing UV resin? If so, how was it?
>>
Anyone else use the Lisa Palveka UV resin? I like it quite a bit and if you use the 40% coupon hobby lobby normally has its only like 5 bucks a 28g bottle.
And does anyone use mold oil?
I never have and my charms seem to come out fine. I was going to order some molds and the descrip recommends it. meh
>>
>>9016271
Is it this stuff?

Really depends on what your molds are made of. If they're silicon, you shouldn't need them. If they're plastic then yeah. You'll need some kind of mold release or you'll have to ruin the mold to get out your pieces.
>>
>>9016271
I use it! I plan on getting more and a UV lamp to switch from epoxy

>>9014378
Thank you so much for this! I was looking everywhere for some like this on Ali and was having no luck.
>>
>>9016271
You only need mold release if your molds aren't silicone, though you can use them on silicone molds to lengthen the mold life.

As for the Lisa Pavelka stuff, I've used it and honestly it's not the best. If anyone's interested in a mini review- I use it and Padico and Padico is by far the better option; it cures fast, hard and seems to last longer.
This stuff takes forever to cure in comparison. Use a nail lamp instead of a torch if you want to get it. It seems to be weirdly sticky when I take it out of the mold too.
It's decent, but maybe that's because I'm comparing a UV glaze to resin made specifically for resin-based crafts. The price is way better than Padico, and it's not bad at all for making charms, but I don't know if I'll be buying it again.
>>
>>9016407
I generally use it for small things and coming. It works fine for that, imo, much easier than trying to manage with epoxy but I definitely wouldn't recommend it for bigger things. Usually cures in 30mins direct sunlight for me.
>>
With hollow pendants like these >>9014378, how well does the resin adhere itself to the metal? I've only ever used resin in a mould rather than like that, and I was wondering if theres a risk of the resin just popping out of the frame
>>
>>9016894

I found some cute ceramic molds, would they work with mold release or should I cast a mold in silicone?
>>
>>9018885
I don't think ceramic molds would work with resin, as it sticks to clay and glazes. Even if you had mod release you'd have a hard time getting the pieces out of the molds. Use silicone instead, it's 100x easier.

Any epoxy resin pros have a quick fix for getting this glossy?

Sand it
>>
>>9020603
You can dome it. Yes, you can dome that kind of shapes but with a lot of care and probably you will need to sand the excess if it spills. Here is someone doming a cameo with a similar shape:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPUbnZx-xt4

I've done it before, just make sure the resin is a bit tacky, and probably you will have to babysit it a while to see. Perhaps the most immediate solution is to buy a new mold? Using varnish always leave the brushstrokes or the drips of the spray...
>>
>>9020642
Actual doming starts at ~4:13 for those who don't care about the rest.

And thanks anon, but is there another video where only the rounded piece is being domed? This one has the frame around in to catch excess and leaves me with a lot of questions

You could make your own mold by casting similar items. The clear one is very remniscent of stuff from cheap chandeliers. I recommend hitting up a thrift store.

Okay anons. I tried a few pours last night for the first time ever.

And let me say, it was a lot harder than I expected. I mean it wasn't difficult really, but it required a lot more finesse than I expected. My pieces didn't come out great, but I stuck a few in my pocket to play with at work because I love how they glitter. Trying again tonight probably.
>>
So I was working with two part epoxy today, and it seems that it didn't mix well so the resin won't harder properly now. Hence I've got an urgent question: how do I clean all this liquid mess right now? And all the measuring cups (separate for the resin and hardener)? >>
>>9023317
Yeah, you need to add more glitter. It looks like it's all evenly covered until you take it out of the mold, so you really need to make sure to add more to the edges in case it doesn't spread evenly.
Other than that, it's really good for a first try. I can't see any bubbles and the piece looks smooth and hard, so it's already better than my first resin pieces, which were sticky disasters.
>>
For some reason my pieces aren't drying out completely outside. They are still sticky after weeks, how can I fix this?
I'm afraid of adding too much catalyst and making the resin yellow, but I'm suing a scale to measure the appropriate amount.
>>
>>9024560
What kind of resin are you using though? Some are measured by equal weight and some by equal volume. For example, EasyCast/Amazing you make sure you have the same volume when you put the cups side by side, but with others you'd need the same ounces (so when put side to side there is not necessarily the same volume) if that makes sense.
Also if you have a lot of humidity, that can prolong curing as well.

Thanks for the tips anon!

I tried my hand at doming a couple of the pieces I pulled, but quickly realized my table was uneven so most of them turned out pretty sloppy. I also tried adding some chunky glitter and different colors. I'm still stuck on how to add depth? I tried adding them at different times/stickiness but they all kind of just sunk to the same level... Anyone have any tips?
>>
>>9024750
Adding dempth is as simple as working with layers of resin. Pour your first layer, add the thing you want in the foreground most (depending on where wait until it's almost firm or add it a bit earlier so it can still sink slightly), wait until tacky, pour second layer, add thing 2, etc. It's a bit more work since you basically have to wait a lot (unless you're working with UV resin) but you'll be sure your things will be on different levels.
>>
>>9024785
Thank you anon! I'll try that next!
Luckily I'm patient.
>>
>>9022466
I want to say they're a combo of bead cap and use wire as a bail. The wire can be threaded through the holes (if there is one) or can be glued
>>
>>9024750
If you're not patient enough to wait 12 hours to pour another layer, add in things you want to sink to the bottom (for example, the sequins in the bottom left piece) first and when it's really viscous and sticky add glitter/whatever you want on top. It'll sink, but not much, and you'll get a more 3D effect.
>>
>>9010293

It should be ok but before you buy it make sure you know what type of resin it is (epoxy, polyurethane, etc) and if it yellows. Depending on what type of resin it is, you'll need a respirator and a well-ventilated workspace. Also, some resin catches fire when you run a lighter over it to remove bubbles, so check to make sure you won't set yourself on fire before you buy it.

Also, do you guys not have any way to buy resin online?

Did a couple more tests. Still not good at deciding how much resin I actually need to mix, so I have a shit ton of solid black and blue pieces that I'll just practice doming on.

I really like mixing the clear and solid colored resins but I'm having a tough time doing it in an appealing way. The clear/black one is my favorite one but I scratched the mold when I did it. I also tried the depth tips you guys gave me, and they worked out. Sadly I managed to make the piece too thin so it's not as drastic as I would do in a real piece hopefully.

I said this earlier in the thread, but use tape. Packing tape, washi tape -- tape that doesn't have a texture. Sticky side toward the resin (obviously) and peel off once you're done.

Just make sure you wrap it up like crazy if you aren't using UV resin, because you're going to have trouble with the cure time.
>>
>>9027984
Popon202? On YouTube has filled bird cages with resin, you could watch how she does it. Tape tape tape.
>>
>>9027984
Tape and UV resin would give you the best results, since you can seal the holes bit by bit with a small amount of resin and then use 2-part resin to give it strength.

Buncha random questions here.

Should I be as worried about resin particles while cutting off a bit of excess with an exacto knife as one would while sanding or filing? Or doing something like @ 3:30 in this vid? >>9020642

Has anyone here used baby oil or vaseline as mold release? I've seen it suggested a few places.

Lastly, how well does the white amazing cast take pigments? I was thinking of getting some for some opaque things.

I'm a bit concerned about yellowing, and while researching what causes yellowing in resin and how to prevent it, I stumbled across this article.
It's by ArtResin (who have their own brand of epoxy resin) and clearly meant to advertise their product's superiority above others, but it did get me wondering about the resin for industrial use vs resins meant for art use.
I guess I mean to ask, from your guys' experience, which resins have had the best and worst yellowing that you've worked with? How long have they lasted until it set in? And how much of this article is truth, or exaggeration?
>>
>>9020703
i'd use washi tape
>>
>>9031667
Honestly, looking through the old threads is the best way to see which brands work best. There are several comparisons online, too, generally speaking jewellery/craft resin is better than industrial resin, and UV resin seems to be less likely to yellow.
>>
Um, seems I've got some uncommon problem as Google didn't give me anything. I usually get my pieces out of molds after 24h (their curing time is 36), and let them sit in the open air to harden properly. Today I was checking on the finished pieces and when I took some in my hands they were covered in some sort of white resin...dust?! I mean, it's surely resin dust, it smells resin. I don't sand pieces usually snd no one could possibly touch them so what the actual fuck
>>
>>9032746
Possibly residue left in the mold from old resin or mold release (if you use it), or the mold disintegrating perhaps?

Ran into a problem using stickers. I'm taking larger stickers and turning them into pins by putting them onto thick poster board and using resin to coat them. After 2 coats though the stickers started separating from the cardboard and were no longer flat but instead slightly curved.
I've heard people mention Modpodge to protect paper/images from getting ruined, but can I also use it to seal the edges so the sticker doesn't come off the poster board?
Any tips would be appreciated.
>>
>>9032897
>I've heard people mention Modpodge to protect paper/images from getting ruined, but can I also use it to seal the edges so the sticker doesn't come off the poster board?
yes, make sure you get around all edges so the resin cannot get between the sticker and the poster board.
>>
>>9032926
I can't figure out if it's the resin that got in between the sticker and poster or if the resin pulled the sticker off, as just the sticker portion started curling while the poster was still stiff. Am I right to say that the modpodge would adhere the sticker and keep that from happening too?
>>
>>9032940
It should, yes.
>>
>>9032940
Yeah. Mod Podge should act like a glue to help keep it on the cardstock/posterboard.

I have a question. Not sure if it should go here, or maybe in the general help thread or aliexpress thread?

I want to order charms, chains, bezels, etc.. for my resin jewelry and keychains.

I'm not sure which metal types I should order, and which ones to avoid. Like I see some charms for sell that the metal is listed as zinc alloy.

I don't want to get anything gold/silver plated, since it tends to look like shit after extended wear. But I'm more concerned about allergy and potential toxin issues like lead. Any charms I'd have inside resin should be okay, but I'd be concerned about anything touching skin.

You could always coat metals with acrylic sealant or something along those lines if they're going to be touching skin. A lot of people also use nailpolish topcoats on the insides of rings to prevent discolouration/allergy issues.

I made my first resin test pieces. They cured perfectly, which I was worried about. Here's the results: sorry if you can see my ugly bathroom in the reflections.

But they have so many tiny bubbles in them, I thought I mixed slowly enough. What did I do wrong? Do you gulls have any tips on getting less bubbles?
>>
>>9037299
I've been having the same issue. If you're using two part resin, you take the thicker part(Like part A in Amazing Clear cast) bottle, and set it in warm water for about 5 minutes, then when you pour it and mix, it should reduce the amount of bubbles. Also, let the resin sit for about 5-10 minutes before pouring your pieces to help pop any extra bubbles, then use a heat gun, BBQ lighter, or straw to pop the rest.

I just did the warm bottle thing and it got rid of a bunch of the micro bubbles. Warming up the resin reduces the viscosity of it, which reduces bubbles when you mix it.
>>
>>9037305
I'm assuming you do this every time you pour, not just when you first buy the bottle?

Also, I've done a few resin pours at this point, but am somewhat inexperienced at putting together jewelry from the charms I make. Any good resources you guys have to offer? Right now I'm just using trial and error which is fun, but I'd like to avoid wasting toooo much money on shitty errors.
>>
>>9037322
Every time you pour. Though if you overheat it to much, it can reduce the shelf life of the resin.
>>
>>9037305
Thanks for the advice. I have 2-1 parts resin. I'll try warming up the bottles next time. Can I keep the lids on them when i warm them in water, or will they not explode.

Hi anons, can I get some advice or ideas?

I've collected flowers from every bunch I've given my girlfriend and vice versa throughout our relationship (I'm sneaky, I pinch off single ones or petals) and I've kept them all to dry out so I can surprise her one day.

Well, I've decided that I would like to make her some resin jewelry with them as her birthday is next month. Problem is, I have minimal experience with doing pretty things in resin and I'm stumped for ideas. I have molds (lots of basic shapes - circle domes, hearts, stars, squares, other) and resin and could pick up other supplies at the craft store if needed. But I have no idea what to make.

tl;dr what's a nice way to encase flowers in resin without just making it a boring flower in resin? What can I add along with it to make the cast look prettier? Or just examples of resin crafts that employ flowers well would be awesome too.

Thank you guys.

How many of these petals/flowers do you have? It might be cute to do some sort of cascading effect in layers or something like pic related. I also saw some pictures of flowers in clear resin bracelets that looked cute.
>>
>>9037813
I have plenty of whole flowers (maybe 15?), lots of assorted leaves, and a bunch of petals. The pic you attached is really nice, I didn't think about combining more than one into the same piece but that's a great idea.

Try transferring them to a different container. If it's PP it's fine to use. The pump or squeeze bottle tricks might work well.

A little over a year now
>What do you use it for?
I make jewelry mostly like rings and such but now that I have a good grasp of the medium I'm branching out from the typical sticker in resin sort of thing.
>What is your preferred type of resin (epoxy, UV, polyester)?
I use epoxy for big things, UV for doming and smaller pieces. Sometimes I use both if there's lots of details and I wat to minimize bubbles.
>What is your favorite brand?
I was using easycast simply out of availability but all of my older pieces yellowed so I switched to amazing clear cast.
>Least favorite?
I would say the easycast. Its good for beginners though! Since its cheap and easy to find.
>In what environment do you use resin, and how does it affect your process?
I do it in my bed room at my desk. Its right near a window so I always have one open but its not a LOT of space. Dont have much choice no where else to do it.
>Have you ever made your own molds, and if so out of what?
I used mold putty but its really not good for resin. Tried using silicone to make mold putty, that didn't work well. Probably going to try making molds with oomoo next or try to get stuff together to make vacuum formed ones as I really would like to be able to make unique pieces.
>Do you have a resin allergy?
No, but I'm always afraid of developing it. I wear gloves and long sleeves when working.
>What technique or method are you proud of for mastering?
Just the ability to get bubbles out and get nicely distributed glitter.
>What technique or method would you like to learn?
At the moment im working on imitating the wands by Japanese artists but I haven't made any yet. Just planning. Eventually I want to make my own unique designs.
>What do you want to see more of when it comes to resin crafting?
To me the most important thing is just trying something new or putting your own spin on something and not being afraid of failing.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to stick two pieces of resin together?

Let's say I have two pieces from a mold that I want to be one. Like two sphere halves.
Would I be able to maybe "glue" them together with resin and have it be almost seamless? I know it probably won't be perfect, but still nice enough? Then I could sand down overspill at the edges and shine it up again?
>>

Jewelry, mostly. Gems for cosplay, every once in awhile. I have a project planned for a kind of cool paperweight/figure/display thing for my boyfriend.
>>What is your preferred type of resin (epoxy, UV, polyester)?
I've only used epoxy, but I'm dying to try UV. (Next paycheck)
>>What is your favorite brand?
I'm using amazing clear cast since I read a bunch of good reviews from seagulls and around the web.
>>Least favorite?
Only tried one so far.
>>In what environment do you use resin, and how does it affect your process?
I do it in my living room, on my coffee table, in front of my sliding glass door and below my ceiling fan. I live in a humid area, but it doesn't seem to effect the curing time as far as I can tell. Everything seems to be fully cured within 24 hours. 36 at most.
>>Have you ever made your own molds, and if so out of what?
I want to try a few small things soon, I was planning on using some silicone putty for my first few projects since they're small and relatively flat.

Nope.
>>What technique or method are you proud of for mastering?
I haven't mastered anything yet, but I'm excited that I haven't had a lot of trouble with bubbles.

I want to embed organic stuff soon. I love how petals and leaves and rose buds look in resin. I'm drying a few out right now. Soon!
>And finally
>>What do you want to see more of when it comes to resin crafting?
More organic stuff, less stickers/beads. I think a lot of resin stuff I see has a lot of really tacky looking stickers and beads all over. Some of it turns out looking like a 3rd graders art project, but it has the potential to be so much more.
I want to see more people being careful and meticulous about their resin designs.

That bothers me too. Especially watching tutorial videos. So many do not character stickers and it just feels boring.
>>
>>9039382
I feel you on the sticker thing. I have nothing against using stickers in resin, but 80% of them are a single sticker in the middle of a giant heart and it gets so boring after a while. If you're determined to use stickers, good for you, but pad it out a bit so it doesn't look as empty and tacky.

As for beads, I've seen maybe 4 or 5 pieces where it looked good. So much bead stuff is awful weeby crap with no colour coordination or cohesion.
>>
>>9039381

It'd be nice to be unique, but you're wrong saying that following trends doesn't make money. Look at all these flippin' oujia board pendants selling like hotcakes from at least 10 different 'e-famous' resin casters, even though it's the same stupid mold you can buy for 7 bucks from etsy.
>>
>>9038508

Oh hello there! Not the anon you were responding to, just came by to share today's horror story of my resining. I have been working with white opaque alcohol-based ink for the first time in my life, and it's been much of an experience. It was very cold outside, and I think it depends much on proportions when comes to amount of paint mixed in epoxy resin, so here's what I got - the paint crumbled after I thoroughly mixed it and poured. Maybe it's because of the temperature, and maybe because I poured too much paint, I don't really know, but you kinda get the picture how will my pieces look like when they harden (yes, I was doming them). I guess I'll just dome them on top again tomorrow but using UV resin this time, let's see if it behaves with this paint better than epoxy did.

Also for the story

>decide to spend the weekend in my studio finishing some older pieces
>it's very cold outside, so I shut most of the windows
>make sure they are shut for good in case if wind rises
>put on my hououin kyouma's gown, mask, glasses and gloves
>all set, start mixing two parts
>everything's fine
>add some paint, mix again
>everything's fine
>dome the pieces, all good
>cover them with cardboard
>undress and walk to the bathroom
>return 30 min later to check on the pieces
>???
>everything's exactly as I left it except for the pieces
>cardboard missing (still didn't find it)
>resin from the doming is everywhere on the table
>everything is soiled and tacky, pieces included
>windows still shut except for the further one
>whattheactualfuck.jpg
>carefully pick one of the pieces to wipe away white resin residues from the sides, no protective anything ofc
>suddenly a whack from behind
>right into the nape
>my nose ends up in the resin
>holy fuck
>another whack from behind
>resin is all over my face now
>turn around to see what happened
>the nearby window bitch slapped me and shut itself as nothing happened
>>
>>9040391

I tried warming up the resin and it did the trick.
The first picture was the result of warming up the resin and shoving a bunch of glitter on the back. There were virtually no bubbles from doing that,so thank you for that advice! The dots on the surface aren't bubbles, I just didn't wait long enough before pouring glitter so some of it sunk to the front. Another lesson learned.

For the second one I tried to embed a picture... there are so many bubbles though. I sealed the paper with packing tape and tried to seal the edges with glamour seal.

I was wondering what ways you can get rid of all the bubbles on the surface of the stickers/stuff you want to embed.

I'm still learning, thank you gulls so much for the help so far!
