If you want to make this hard, you have to ask for obscure pre-2000 cosplay. There's a lot of older stuff that's still pretty popular and recognizable -- Sailor Moon, 80s/90s Ghibli, Cardcaptor Sakura, Dragon Ball, etc.

True, I didn't mean it in a nitpicky way, just that I'd class the advanced difficulty as excluding those big titles like SM or Evangelion that are still pretty popular. Just google searching stuff that was pretty mainstream in the US fandom in the 90s is turning up a larger amount of recent cosplay than I would have expected.

desu costume satin actually looks better than the truly terrible fabrics taobao companies use, so we've come full circle on shitty fabrics. The "make do without wigs" look definitely marks this out as of its time, though.
