He was, admittedly, never convicted. But the fact that he's still not banned from local cons baffle me when he's SO well known.

I just saw a couple being banned because the con's cleaner cathed them fucking in the bathroom.

There was this one old man on cons around 2010-something.
He did many things, but one time things went like this (Just read of it.)

I cosplayed Ryuko (transform version) and got kicked out for my under boob because it wasn't "kid friendly" even though I had pasties n everything just in case... I guess I can understand though. It was a local small con after all.

There was two incidents I remembered. One involves just walking through the con and watch as security openly passed around a banlist. Learned from them that if you get involved with the law and end up in an investigation for sex offender registry you cannot participate in anime cons during the background check.

Second one was more business related, this guy who basically held a monopoly on maid cafes decided to go another con to teach them how to operate a maid cafe. Only to learn they had hired their own staff and no longer needs his help. He gets into an argument and was no longer welcome. Despite that he still lurks around outside for photos.

The VGC is huge. Last year the Masters division (the oldfags) had 500+ people take part. I'm going to the regionals in Sutton Coldfield next month, last year there must have been 100 people, was good fun.

It's a pretty social event, people cosplay and it's easy to make friends. Gordian Knot, who run it, couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery, so expect delays and bonding over how shit it's being run.

It's fun though, if you come along come say hi to a fellow seagull.

So I'm at a con this weekend, and a lot of people are talking about a photographer way out in the MidWest US named Ron Ladao who got summarily expelled from a convention after a fallout with a cosplayer friend who then took revenge by going to all the local cons and telling them about something horrible he did 13(!) years ago and using that as grounds to strip him of his position, his title, and kick him out of the con.

People seem especially angry about this because the photographer dug up an old video of the incident, and while he acts damn creepy in it, it's a lot closer to his version of events than to hers.

I don't know what to make of this, it's far away from me and I know nothing about the photogapher, the cosplayer, or to cons to make an educated judgement.

So what do you think, /cgl/? Should someone be summarily banned, without even the chance to offer a defense, when someone else brings up actions of a decade ago?
Should his post the video exonerating himself be disallowed and removed from the internet, as many people have claimed, would be harassing the victim again by questioning her feelings and making live the awful moment all over again?

Not really. I'm a multiple rape survivor (same person) and I never sought justice because I was too afraid. The thought of seeing them again or having to spend weeks jumping through legal hoops just rubbing that sore spot was too much, I just wanted to run from the whole situation and erase it from my mind.

The thought of him doing it to someone else does bug me, but I wasn't in a great place after it happened so I didn't really think things through.

But I also disagree with people who take action years later and make a huge deal out of it putting more effort into publicly shaming the person than privately dealing with things. Like it just seems like a pity grab at that point?

Because sometimes you literally can't. Rape doesn't always happen the way you see in TV shows and movies. It's not always an ambush from a stranger or being drugged at a party. It plays a huge emotional toll after it happens so the logical option is often shrouded under lots of emotional turmoil.

Like, I agree that false rape claims are bullshit and hurt women, that waiting years then playing "name and shame" is bullshit, but to demonize rape survivors for not immediately pressing charges or not pressing charges at all shows a massive lack of understanding of just how complex the situation is and is harmful to rape victims.
