Oh boy
>>
>>22005
/an/ has seen far too many cats get injured due to the outdoors and their owners not having money for the expenses. Sometimes paypals are set up, sometimes anon just goes MIA. Most times the cats don't make it. So it is largely debated on /an/ and it will absolutely derail any thread.

RIP thread

A dead newfag, which is the only good one.
>>
>>21908
Why should I keep my cat indoors? I feel bad for indoor cats since they can't go outside and enjoy the world.
>>
>>22512
Ecosystems aren't static though. In suburban areas like where I live there are too many people for what would be apex predators (like coyotes) to really move in so cats keep the rabbit/mouse/vole populations down. If you don't have something preying on them then the tick population will explode (as it always does on segmented lots) and a lot of them will die a worse death than by cat.
A cat inside isn't a cat.
>>
>>23486
Because they are more likely to get severely injured and die a horrible death. You are subjecting others to deal with your cat. There is also the whole thing about ecosystems.

It's one thing to let your cat outside on your own property, but letting them free roam is just neglectful. No other pet animal is allowed to free roam off poperty.

>>23492
Cats do not discriminate in what they kill. Even in suburban areas there are predators like hawks, owls, coyotes and foxes that you probably don't see and never will because cats needlessly kill. I live in suburbia and have hawks and coyotes. Your cat can still enjoy the outdoor world while being safe, it's not hard to do. Cats have no concept of outdoors equating to freedom, this is just people anthropomorphizing their pets. The outdoors is just stimulation for cats; they have all this shit they can do outside that they may not be allowed to do indoors. If you gave your cat enough to do inside, it wouldn't need to even go outdoors. People think cats are these fat lazy creatures, but just because they sleep a lot doesn't mean they don't need mental and physical stimulation. It's just pet owners being ok with risking their pet's lives in exchange to be lazy.
>Ecosystems aren't static
I suggest you look into what an invasive species is. It's made even worse that we take care of all their needs so they compete with territory and food that they don't even need.

>Even in suburban areas there are predators like hawks, owls, coyotes and foxes that you probably don't see and never will because cats needlessly kill.
This sentence could mean multiple things because it's poorly constructed. Do I not see these other animals simply because my cat kills things? Do I not see them because my cat kills them? It can't be that I don't see them because my cat fills their niche and therefore they are not there because you assert that they are there.
>Your cat can still enjoy the outdoor world while being safe, it's not hard to do.
By letting my cat outside?
>If you play with your cat it doesn't need to go outside.
I simply can't believe that you've ever had an outdoor car when you say stuff like this. I can scratch my cats neck and buy all the toys she wants and play with her every waking moment and she'd still ask to go outside. Because she knows there's stuff outside and knowing that it's there she prefers it to being inside.
>Ecosystems aren't static
>You don't know what an invasive species is
Not even approaching valid response, nor did it address my point.
There's no reliable data on density of small prey animals over hundreds of years but the prevalence of lyme disease where I live is a pretty good indicator that mouse populations are rising
https://sites.newpaltz.edu/ticktalk/ottaway-2014-lyme-disease-investigation/story-by-zach-mcgrath/
So if there are more rodents and what were apex predators can't find purchase in an area then the problem can't be that domestic cats are killing too much of the prey. It's something else about suburbs that makes it hard for them to exist, complaining about cats is simply a cop-out.
>>
>>23538

Those are all just studies on outdoor cats and wildlife, nothing else. There was probably 10 more pages or so of sources too.

I have had two outdoor cats back when I was lazy and didn't want to care for them. Now I'm a responsible cat owner. You seem to suggest that suburban areas have absolutely no food chain or ecosystem and only has pests, so I imagine you aren't from /an/ or you would have paid more attention in middle school biology. Lyme disease does not directly equate to mouse population, it can only equate directly to tick population. Many animals can harbor ticks, lyme disease is actually most commonly found in deer, and cats aren't killing deer. I read your article and I fell like you linked something just to say you have a source, it really doesn't help your case at all.
