I like all the characters in Oreimo a lot, but I decided to focus on Kirino because she has many visual and other character traits that I'm attracted to.

Eye and hair color, 'cute little fang', energetic personality and so on. I also have two older sisters myself so the story about sibling relations was one of the things that got me interested about Kirino as well.

They are somewhat specific and personal reasons, so they might not be that helpful if you're looking to give character a second chance.

She really is a sweetheart. Her inner feelings are unusual and widely considered wrong by others, but she still holds them very dear, and doesn't give up. she's willing to change herself and become the best she can so that she can be together with who she loves. Everything she has is something she worked hard to earn, her social position, her job, her skills, and even her eroge are all things she planned for and earned through hard work and determination. Kyousuke helps her all the time, protects her, spends much time and effort for her but she gives nothing back.

That's wrong though, at least after the first few volumes. She doesn't "bitch about everything" and if it's mostly words she said because she herself was insecure and innerly torn apart. She loves him but is disgusted by herself and can't deal with it so it's easier for her to act dismissive.

As he spends more time with her Kyousuke learns to read her behavior. About the "gives nothing back" part, at the beginning of Oreimo all he did in his free time was read manga at home and study with Manami, Kirino helped him get out of that almost pathetic state,

she is the main reason he became outgoing and energetic over time. She did shit on him too much, especially at the beginning, but they spent a lot of time together and enjoyed it after opening up a bit. It really is noticeable how Kirino slowly starts to enjoy his company more and more.

And lastly about the "she decided to be nice at once", she was nice to him before but distanced herself because of his relationship with Kuroneko, of course that changed when Ruri broke up. I understand why people dislike her for her behavior in the first half of the series but

it's not like she was being nasty just for the sake of it, she had her reasons and her own internal struggle. Of course Kyousuke doesn't know about that and the story is told from his point of view so Kirino seems like a ungrateful bitch at first.

I think it was after I found out about their backstory and Kirino's hidden feelings that I fell for her. The scene where she shows him her hidden box and they listen to the Ipod recording, it's incredible sweet and loyal she is on the inside.

Not really. I fell for the "Kirino is derd in the LN" meme and it's not true at all. Whatever extra dere moments there are, they're buried amongst a page's worth of insults, completely negating them. At least the anime cut down on the insults due to time constraints; no page long monologues belittling Kyousuke.

I understand her reasons for acting the way she does. I understand the confliction she has, liking him even though they're siblings, hating him because of how he lost his old self and what Manami has done to him, (and probably some of that is to further distance himself from her) but she's still physically abusive even halfway through the series.

I really don't think you can call his change "outgoing and energetic" either. Yeah he gets outside more and has friends besides Manami but most of that is Kirino forcing him and it's not like he picked up new hobbies of his own. He's incredibly flat as a character and his only real feature is his kindness, which combined with his lack of a backbone and inability to stand up for himself means he sacrifices everything for people that don't treat him very well. Hell even Ruri is more insulting in the LN.

I'm going to get called a troll for this but I actually prefer the anime to the LN. I liked the anime Kirino and after falling for the LN meme it honestly ruined Kirino for me. It was just way too much to handwave.

Internal struggles are no reason to treat her brother like this for years.
It feels more like she stopped loving him and started hating him.
Also the way she interacts with other people like Kuroneko or the way she hates Manami.

Watching every one falling in love with his brother but only decided to make a move when she saw that he was actually willing to have a relationship with one of them.

It might be worth considering that the LN character are different to the anime characters.

Not trollin mate. I actually posted about this a while ago and basically got told that I surely must have missed all those diamond dere moments buried in the rough. I'm just not willing to hand wave away all her insults just because she said 1 good thing about him for every 60 bad things. Like I said, the anime cuts it down due to time constraints and so it's not as over the top.

In regards to Kyousuke, I was just saying that I wouldn't describe it as "he became more outgoing and energetic over time," but tell me why you think Kyousuke isn't flat beyond his kindness/helping every single person in the cast. What are his hobbies beyond the eroge Kirino forces him to play? He reads some manga and that's it. He doesn't do running anymore. He hangs out with Saori and Ruri sometimes? But that too was set up by Kirino. The game club? That was set up hy Ruri. Beyond Manami the only friend that he didn't meet because of his sister or Ruri is Akagi. Sakurai is completely out of the picture...

Frankly, he's boring. He's flat. He lacks much personality beyond being a doormat and helping others. The LN even outright says he must be a masochist. But isn't that why Kirino is so mad at him? He gave up on being an amazing aniki and become normal instead. He had character, he just lost it.

But it's wasn't Kirino who initiated the cold war. It started after Kyousuke lost his motivation and Kirino didn't understand why. She lost her idol who she wanted to strive after. At the same time she didn't get over her admiration for him,

instead she "forgot" about it and got into imouto eroge as a form of escapism. They both totally ignored each other for 2 years, it's just that Kirino has a much harder time once they start interacting again.

Kirino never stopped loving him, that's what the already mentioned IPod recording is about, she buried those feelings and struggled to accept them as they surfaced again during the series (same with Kyousuke, only that his denial goes deeper as he actually forgot what happened).

Not sure what you mean with "way she interacts with other people like Kuroneko", they are great friends who love to tease and badmouth each other. Sometimes one goes a bit too far verbally but they can forgive each other. Kirino treats everyone except for Kyousuke and Manami with respect.

About the anine/LN thing, yes they are quite different, I would say the novels are crucial to understanding the series. The anime cut about 3-4 volumes worth of content, changed some other stuff and one of the most important things about the series, Kyousuke's biased narration, is almost completely lost. I think of the anime as a butchered version of the novels, it shits on the story and characters but still tries to follow the canon, which is why you get so many people complain about the ending after watching it.

Please, read the first 2 chapters of volume 1 again and then of volume 12. I'm not even counting that as an opinion, you are just plain wrong. How often did he repeat his "I am normal and boring and want a normal and boring life" mantra in the first few volumes. He literally didn't do anything on his own at the beginning. About the rest, he actually started to play eroge on his own later without Kirino telling him to, he hangs out with his friends on how own accord and he was actually the one who set up the game club for Ruri in volume 5 (though that's not his hobby so he wouldn't go there alone). Is that not enough progression from not doing anything on his own at the beginning? What great hobbies are people in highschool supposed to have?

You're right on volume 12 but what I was referring to was the early volumes where he does have that mantra of being normal (it does continue at least to volume 6 though, I'm pretty sure). The eroge, game club, and friends were all started as ways to help Ruri and Kirino. Did he come to enjoy them himself? Sure, but he didn't decide to do them of his own accord, it was almost always that he was dragged to it initially or set it up as a way to help others.

He stops being a doormat when Kirino stops being quite so belligerent, but he still never really stands up for himself to her, except for when he gets mad at the maid party. The wedding was definitely something he himself wanted but that wouldn't have been enough for him to set it up, he did it because it's what Kirino wanted too.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all about volume 12, my complaints of him being flat are from the start where he has so little personality and is boring (exactly why Kirino is so mad at him)

Well it's not really fair to judge characters on their initial behavior, it's the development that matters the most. That's why I like Kirino and Kyousuke so much, they both start out as annoying and stupid but grow a lot. Why pick on flaws that are overcome during the series?
You should have said you were referring to the first third of the series. I was always talking about his development and not about his initial state. Nobody is claiming that Kirino wasn't abusive at first and that Kyousuke wasn't a lazy and cynical idiot.

I'm pretty sure Kirino never said that she wanted a wedding, Kyousuke came up with that himself. Otherwise it doesn't make sense that he had Saori stealth measure Kirino's finger size. Or maybe Kirino did mention it but only as a fantasy and Kyousuke then actually thought about how to make it happen. Nothing wrong with that, of coruse he wouldn't do something like that if he knew Kirino wouldn't like it. That seems a bit like a stupid complaint to me.

Oh and as a side note I do think there is a significant difference between the anime the the LNs, though that might be due to having discussed every little detail on /a/ for years. Reminds me, I started an incredibly detailed pastebin about Kirino's and Kyousuke's interactions in every chapter with quotes and interpretation but I stopped after volume 2.

I used to have a small guide for it but unfortunately cannot find it anymore. Here's a quick overview:
1. Make ordinary transparency crop of a screencap.
2. Trace the outline and line art of the character with path tool, or a pen tool that allows curves.
3. Resize down to a desired size.
4. Save as png to preserve the transparency.

At first he's more or less truthful. But like starting volume 2 it's more to reassure and remind himself that he absolutely for serious 100% NEEDS to hate her.

Anime overall cuts like a third of the LN. From the top of my head it's 25% of volume 2 (manami chapter), 50% of volume 3, 70% of volume 6, 80% of volume 9, 50% of volume 10, all of volume 11, and 30% of volume 12.

It's probably best to go to /a/ to discuss it. There's quite a few people there willing to explain/discuss it all. Just be VERY civil in the OP (Preferably post a pic of Sakurai in the OP. She keeps the shitposters away.) or else you're going to get around 50-100 shitposts at the beginning of the thread.

I'd say the opposite, his narration is often dishonest but maybe that's what you meant with "NEEDS to hate her". Oh and Oreimo threads on /a/ have become pretty calm, the times where you had to wait out the first wave of shitposting are over. But that's normal. Some times they cut more than 50% or change everything.
In most cases only the first few volumes are uncut and unchanged.

Their original purpose is to be simple reaction images, with a little bit more emphasis on lineart than a normal transparency crop has. At their current state they're good fit for my schedule.

I tried doing vectors at some point and I was left with the impression that to make a good quality vector it would add up to a considerable amount of work compared to just tracing a picture. Of course, that was long ago and I might have just missed some easy and fast method of making them.

Ero Manga Sensei (EMS) anime starts in April.

There's a very small portion in volume 2 of the LNs I think where Kyousuke/Kirino/Kuroneko/Saori appear. It's the same part that's covered in the Oreimo's After Story (A Momentary Encounter) so we may get to see them in the EMS anime.

It'll be kinda nice to see since Kuroneko confirms there that Kirino/Kyousuke stay together and are doing impure things together.

No. We just got the announcement in March. Earliest it could have happened was Fall/Winter but we got confirmation a few days ago on it being for Spring 2017.

VAs were announced too. Seems like none of the Oreimo main (Kirino/Kyousuke) or prominent side characters (Neko/Ayase/etc) VAs were cast. No Mahouka repeat. A shame. I imagined Taketatsu's voice when thinking about Elf a lot.

This was one of the first boards I ever frequented and it's still my favorite. The people here are generally more polite and helpful than /a/ or any other anime board here.

There's been no proof to assume anything at this point. No proof any boards are being deleted, no proof Shkreli or Notch will be buying, hiro said he isn't selling, no proof he is or is not selling user data. But the ads are disabled...means he somehow messed up the deal with jlist.

That or /pol/'s influx of traffic upset the balance keeping this place afloat. If that's the case, then hiro's idea of selling more passes won't work; people who hate /pol/ wouldn't support 4chan.
