Negative Wage

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why don't we make it's legal to offer a negative wage? Think about it:
>you desperately want job experience or to get your foot in the door
>employers won't take you because you're demanding an obscene amount of money ($15/ hr)
>instead, to break out of unemployment, you pay a business several thousand a year for the opportunity to work for them.

It would be really useful for college interns and NEET's trying to get out of NEEThood. It allows the free market to finally allow the true price of their labor so that they'll be able to get jobs, and after a while they can work their way up to a positive wage as they become more experienced. Everyone wins, since it's trading work experience for money.
>>
It's called college
>>
Paying to work

That is the ultimate jewish fetish
>>
>>974312
Isn't that how it works in internships already?
>>
>>974312
Think about this negotiation. You paid a company money to generate revenue for them with the hope that they will offer you a job in what 6 months?

Your hiring manager now gets to decide how desperate you are for the job and gives you much below market value for your trained skills because you just indeed paid them to teach you.

If you go to a different company and said you paid to work for them, the other company might offer you a little better but you still were worth nothing to the first place.

You are already telling people you are worthless. This is how the wage gap gets wider.
>>
Sounds bloody horrific.

Sub-minimum wage apprenticeships already exist. Unpaid internships already exist. Higher education is already paid. Paying to intern? That would be incredibly unpopular.
>>
>>974348
>implying there's anything wrong with different people earning different amounts based on their value to the market
Holy shit, you're a fucking retard. Maybe if you worked harder and weren't such a lazy parasite, you would actually be successful. The people who would earn a negative wage absolutely deserve it for being unskilled and a general drag on society, and the negative wage will motivate them to work harder.
>>
>>974312
That's how school works brah.

I know you are joking but this will happen soon. Unpaid internships of highly qualified graduates is already a thing.
>good goy keep building your CV or no one will ever hire you :^)
Yes young people are this fucking desperate and big companies are rubbing their hands
>>
>>974370
If low wages motivated people to work harder, then why is the wage gap widening and less people are going from mailroom clerk to CEO? The answer is twofold: Companies are afraid of risk and are super short term.

A hiring manager has only one thing in mind when he sits down with your resume, "How much revenue can you generate vs how much I am willing to spend". The better he can get that ratio the better he will feel. If you paid him 6 months ago to hire you, is he going to think "wow this kid really learned alot and earns what he generates?" or is he going to think "If my bottom line goes up this quarter because the guy I had for free is not costing 70k, I am going to look worse."

The recruiter who scans your resume wants to get you hired for least amount of effort on her part. She is going to pick the person with the most brands and things she recognizes regardless of skill and ability to perform. Are you a drag on society because you made the fiscally rational decision to go to state school vs private? According to this recruiter, yes. But then again, she went to middlewestern tech with a degree in communications and now is paid to hire at an engineering firm, because they needed a warm body to phone screen. Saying you went to standford or harvard will open more doors even if you studied art history.

Hard workers who don't compete for wage parity don't move up. You're living in that 1950s bubble with the idea of a fair job market.

Happy Thanksgiving by the way.

But businesses are already doing that but in a subtle way.

Have you ever had to buy your own uniform from them?
>>
>>974439
>gimmedat, I deserve your money
Haha, liberal retard. If the market determines that the fair value for your labor is a negative wage, then to do otherwise would be standing in the way of economic efficiency increases, this hurting the economy.

There is literally nothing wrong with different people earning different amounts of money. Go get your own, you greedy socialist.
>>
>>974485
>Fair value of your labor is negative wage
>This Anon: You deserve nothing more!
>Don't work (0 wage, an upgrade from your market value)
>Get welfare (In the black from your market value)
>This Anon: P-parasite!

University is the closest thing to a negative wage you'll ever have instituted, OP, and you're retarded.

Happy Thanksgiving.
>>
>>974485
How are they suppose pay that company? With their job they pay for? You're retarded.
>>
>>974312
>negative wage

Sadly, this already exists in my line of work.
Seach for "Pay to fly".
>>
>>974485
Don't be surprised when you can't find anybody to do your work for you. But, being retarded, you probably will be. And angry about it too.
>>

It's sad that people in my generation are dumb enough to fall for this idea. If it's difficult to find entry-level work or internships in a field, it means there is little demand for labor.
There's little excuse for anyone (even a college grad) cutting losses and moving on to a different career path. Just do some searching on the Bureau of Labor Statistics and check out a program like Job Corps. Both states and the federal government also subsidize many training and apprenticeship programs besides universities and community colleges. You just have to look.

This is exactly what I did after graduating college and finding that my desired field was saturated where I live. I now have a cozy, set career path, whereas I see many former classmates of my major (who graduated with a much higher GPA, some with honors) still working in the retail jobs they held as undergrads.

There may come a point where there is little or no demand for labor of *any* occupation, in which case the answer is a negative income tax, not "negative wage."

Of course, everything I just typed only pertains to residents of the United States. Those living in places like Canada, Western Europe, or Russia: you're on a sinking ship already, so just end your life now before it gets any worse.

>Paying to work for free.

You have ten seconds to explain to me why should I do that, when I could do volunteer work instead.
>>
>>974842
This

And you will meet powerful people who volunteer their talents for the love of the cause.

Take this lesson down /biz/ if you volunteer your time into an organization, you will find other people in your skill set who volunteer because they care about the organization.
This is the best way to network because the higher ups will have incredible respect for people willing to help their same causes.

I run a college alumni group that focuses around small businesses, completely for free. All of the members are successful entrepreneurs who then privately hire me out freelance for their advertising because I 'care' about our alma matter and they get that human trust factor.
>>
>>974312
Ah yes, companies will just be so happy to hire you with your 6 months of negative wage experience when they can hire the next retard willing to pay for work.

>obscene amount of money ($15/hr)
Stay poor, faggot.

Just when I thought I was immune to the stupidity of this board, I am once again astounded.

Congrats on making the dumbest thread in the history of /biz/
>>
>>974312
What is beauty college?
>>
>>974312
Alright, so let's say all companies start forcing entry-level scrubs to pay for the privilege to work.
What motivation would they have to ever offer paid employment?

If a negative wage employee quits, 2 more will take their place because they're hurting for experience to put on the CV.
>>
>>975685
I don't see what the problem is. If that's what the free market deems is most efficient, then what makes you qualified to argue with that?

Besides, I'm already giving Jamal plenty of welfare money to buy his weed.
>>
>>975690
If nobody is being paid, how the fuck is anyone supposed to buy things to keep the company afloat?
>>
>>975694
The free market always prevails.

It seems like you need to strengthen your trust in the market.
>>
>>974333
Lmao next semester this will be the case for me believe it or not, instead of going to school I pay the same money to gonto work to some company and do some project (anf tje company cant pay me either) so im paying to work, god bless Mexico
>>
>>974385
Unpaid internships are rare for qualified business students, at least here in the midwest. If anything, taking an unpaid internship at some little firm will be seen as desperate and make you look worse for prospects.
