Is it possible to write an algo that beats the market?

no
it is possible to write an algo that takes advantage and opens and closes positions at the right moments, riding the market waves.
but yeah, you can't beat the market.
If it was someone already would've and they sure as hell wouldn't have told you how.
i think human traders and human written algos would be obsolete in just a few years
pretty sure somewhere there is already a working neural network learning its way to beat trading markets

yes. you write a program which can do absolutely nothing but can pretend to be able to forecast moons and dips, whenever it randomly says somethings gonna moon, everyone will buy and it will actually moon. same for the dips, everyones afraid of losing money and will sell.

>1. Liquidate all your assets
>2. Buy ETH and move to hardware wallets
>3. Direct deposit your salary into an exchange
>4. Buy ETH
>5. Move ETH to hardware wallets
>6. HODL
Repeat steps 3-6 every time you get a paycheck.
There, you beat the market.
