buy eth. dont worry about the short term. staking means 90% of coins will be locked in pools causing a 10x rise. also, the casper algorithm destroys eth, so after the 100m cap is hit eth will hyperdeflate.
the current eth/usd technicals are looking good, and honestly the metropolis hard fork is going to at least double the price short term.
in the very long term, eth actually has intrinsic value as fuel for things like uncensored websites hosting (think tor only better) so really you cant lose
are you s-s-s-ure OP?

when is there supposed to be an ETH hard fork?

read the casper white papers. it costs eth to stake, and that eth is destroyed forever. the profits you get are from transactions which should outpace the staking costs. this means that in the long term eth will always rise, unlike btc which doesnt cap for another 100 years and currently has more inflation than usd

the fork for anonymous transactions goes on the test net on the 18th, and testing ends early october, then the hard fork happens. for casper, you're going to be waiting a while (some time in 2018). sharding (for web hosting) is also 2018.
