What's stopping people from totally lying about your grades and work experience on a resume?

Whew... How much Dogecoin do I need for this..??
I've never used a resume. I've always just walked in, offered to do the job free for a couple days. Then get hired. 100% success rate in my case.

The people responsible for hiring you actually calling your contacts.
Since you're asking this question it's clear that you've never progressed past burger-flipper, but I promise you it will come up one day.

they sometimes ask for transcript to verify gpa if you just graduated.
Nothing. But most hiring managers have been in the position that is being hired for, so they will know BS when it comes across.
Fake resume shit might be good for sales, but it will fail for any technical area.

Unless they ask for a transcript, nothing on the grades. Work experience will usually be checked as reference, and if you're working an actual job you may be required to provide proof for previous experience.
In addition to this, most jobs that require good grades or a lot of exp expect you to know how to do your shit, so it will become obvious within the first 2-3 days if you lied. We have people all the time that get sent home from our training classes after the second day because it's apparent they didn't have the technical background they claimed they did.
