How do vaguely erotic photographers make money?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I see a lot of them upload not-quite-pornographic videos to Vimeo too. And since it's for free I can't figure out how they are making their money.

Like are these hot girls like pic related actually paying the photographer to use these images in their portfolio so they can get more work? Are they really escorts whose brothels send them to get high quality photos for their catalogues?

The other thing I thought of is that shitty electro musicians and clubs might be licensing the photos and video for promotional purposes? How much gravy is in that though?

hobbyist, mainly.

but you probably underestimate the sex industry size too. nearly half of all females in college engage in prostitution at some point. numbers would be higher but so many of them are away from big cities where the markets are robust and safe(r). and that's not even counting "gold digging" versions of whoring about, just straight up cash for sex.

Checked.

I figured, rich boys with a lot of money to spend on equipment trying to check all the boxes of his imagined

>nearly half of all females in college engage in prostitution at some point.
Even if that was true. How do these photographers profit from that? If they are hookers then they aren't going to be modelling for free.

I mean there has to be some money in it other wise you wouldn't see all these high quality (i.e. professional level cameras) photographs released by commercial photographers unless, like you say, they are all just hobbyists paying for a three hour session with a model, renting a studio just so they can try to "live the dream".

Seriously. What is this guy's and others like him's end-game?

I think he's pulling your leg.

While I can understand how shooting noods will improve your photography skills (dealing with colour balance, lighting the skin, skin texture etc. etc.) how does it get him work?

Huh??

It's possible that a large percentage of young women will engage in "compensated dating" at least once, but i call bullshit on his statistic. More to the point it has nothing to do with the business model of the guys on the other side of the lens.

I also don't get how this works.
But apparently, doing good pics is quite easy and the tools you need are really cheap (compared to, say building some proper furniture or servicing an engine), so there is a lot of folks that are just doing as l'art pour l'art and make their money with a normal "wageslave" job.
I have a few "artist" friends who do quite high quality pics or music, but never earned a single dime with it. They just saved a few hundreds/thousands to get their equipment and are now doing it just because they like it, and while doing so, they might as well put it somewhere, so that others can enjoy it too.
Sure, they'd probably love it if someone buys their stuff, or hires them for a shoot, but that's not the goal.
Would suppose quite a few of the folks you are talking about do the same.
And the girls?
Some might have the same reason, but I suppose there is some more hope involved of being discovered.
But certainly also some "you shoot me in lingerie just because, but you pay me by being the photowhore at my wedding/birthday/my grandparents funeral" deals.
and some guys probably even don't mind spending a few hundred to hire a model for their hobby.

I reckon the guy who owns the website makes some good coin, but he's profiting off... wait sorry... creating a community of photographers.
Not implying he's predatory, but someone has to be losing out fiscally here, and I don't think it's the women in the photos and I know /biz/ would never accept that as a reality either.

I reckon you're right. Low barrier to entry. Literally just throwing their own money at it.

>But certainly also some "you shoot me in lingerie just because, but you pay me by being the photowhore at my wedding/birthday/my grandparents funeral" deals.
Didn't think about that.

>and some guys probably even don't mind spending a few hundred to hire a model for their hobby.
Sounds kinda beta to me, haha
