With Google & Facebook owning 70%+ of digital advertising, there are a number of big ad players that will be happy to support an initiative taking market share from them. P&G recently slashed $200m from their digital ad budget if memory serves.
This seems like a good approach: not everyone will buy into it, but as publishers & retailers move toward it (because they can actually make money if they offer quality content), it has a good chance.
Google & Facebook may be tempted to create their own versions but they'll have to tread carefully in how they structure ad tokens or be sued to oblivion. Plus, BAT, if Mercury works as it should, will have first mover advantage.

With Chrome you can either choose to block ads or to view ads.
With Brave you can either choose to block ads or get paid to view ads.
They will get every third-worlder to use their desktop browser and a good number of westerners to use their mobile browser. Plus they are extending the platform to other shit later.
