I've been regularly putting away a bit of money for my kid's college fund and I'm toying with the idea to invest part of it into crypto at a ratio of 1/3 BTC vs. 2/3 FIAT. The existing savings will remain in FIAT but any future deposits will be split. Deposits are done monthly and only a few hundred bucks.
Good way to invest into the kid's future or completely retarded gamble of crypto-bug infested dad? I'm counting on your advice, /biz/

Depends on your timeframe and risk tolerance.
Ask yourself if there be enough left for college in the worst case scenario (you lose all your BTC). Also if they are going off to college in a few months vs. in 18 years it's different. In the former case the swings are very risky but in the latter they don't matter so much.

Timeline is about 3-4 years. Your answer is pretty much in line with how I looked at it. If BTC drops to zero it wouldn't be that much of a loss since we're only talking 4k in crypto anyway by the time she's off to college.
