They can walk into T-Mobile and say "hi, I'm Jack Bizbro, I lost my phone with my sim card in it. I have this other phone as a backup but I still need me sim card. Can I please buy another sim card but keep the same number I had before? Okay thanks!"

And then when they want to steal from your bank account, they will receive the text message - not you.

Read this:
https://medium.com/@CodyBrown/how-to-lose-8k-worth-of-bitcoin-in-15-minutes-with-verizon-and-coinbase-com-ba75fb8d0bac

Phone-number-based 2FA is really insecure. And even if you get lucky and the person working at Verizon actually asks for the last four digits of your SSN, an attacker could easily have those digits from this Equifax hack.

It's still better than not having 2FA at all, but you really want something more secure than a phone number. That's why crypto exchanges support authy or google authenticator.

Also, the information lost is enough for a hacker to open up bank accounts in your name and probably also claim your tax returns, so try to turn on 2FA for that if possible. Someone at work told it could be done and I haven't looked up how yet.

>>
>>3387393
I honestly don't know.

In theory, they don't even have to go to B&M if they can call up and say their using their friend's phone and please send them a SIM / activate their new SIM with your number? I don't know if places would have policies in place to check if your SIM was actually being used or if their customer service reps would just give them what they asked for to get them off the phone.

Regardless of whether it's a brick and mortar place, you're trusting them to keep your phone number secure.
>>

banks and courts are the same people so they will side with the bank for making the effort of putting the notice that they probably had a legal expert approve beforehand

You should be more worried about this on any crypto exchange accounts you have. Particularly as anything that happens won't be able to be rolled back whereas with credit cards nearly every company will pay off charges if you contest them within 30 days.
>credit cards
Mainly monitor them, immediately call if anything pops up you didn't do.

Here's a sample report from their employment history system:

I got affected too but let's put this into perspective. You really are only affected by this if you are working age. So if we look at Fed data at https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/LFWA64TTUSM647S, you can see that there are over 203 million working age adults in the US. 143 million hacked and if you do the math, you get that this hack had over 2/3s of all working age adults in the US included. That is a lot of people besides you that are hurting right now.

>>3389570

I want them to move away from SSN cards. It was never meant as a means of identification. It's made out of cardboard for heaven's sake with no lamination but everyone piggybacked off it because the Social Security program had the largest registry of working adults at the time with convienent numbers. I am not opposed to a national US ID card but I know others are for privacy purposes but let's face it, if we don't have one, we'll get fucked over more staying on SSN with incidents like these.

Yes, but good luck proving a ceo would willingly do this.

Then again martha steward was arrested over shorting 50K worth of stock.

I feel perhaps these guys wont.

At this point every financial institution in the US just needs to stop giving out credit cards, loans, and everything else because it's pretty much guaranteed that everything will be fraudulent forever now.

we're on the same page then. insider trading is illegal. hacking is illegal. the company at large isnt to blame tho
>>
>>3389800
>Yes, but good luck proving a ceo would willingly do this.

That's not how insider trading works. If it looks like you're guilty, you're guilty and fucked.

Even if it was a coincidence, they are the unluckiest faggots ever and probably still going to jail. They should donate all that money to charity and flee the country.

Dont have to. Their actions alone are evidence of guilt.
Whether theyve paid the 'justice system' off or not is another story though

I dont think there's a correlation between stocks and crypto.

A sudden hyperinflation might attract people to crypto though. Something we'll probably see in our lifetime.

The presidential election was some good fun, we don't have that kind of thing in Yurop. The French election hot pretty close tho, with two meme parties in the finale.

I was fairly sure the financial industry is regulated, why didn't government work this time? TLDR; nothing can stop bad actors, bad things happen.

Conveniently (for Equifax), those who sign up for TrustID might waive their right to any class action lawsuit against the company, as stated at the bottom of TrustID’s terms of service.

Aha. Wow. Top teir jewery right here.

Don't tell me that little ToS would actually fly in court and not get thrown the fuck out because of how big this entire leak is. It wouldn't, right?

So if I tell my bank to freeze everything in my name for the next month or two as soon as they open, and never owned a credit card before, what're the odds I'm going to be hacked anyway?
