Why does this always happen? When bittcoin takes a dump most other coins also take a dump too. Please explain how it has influence like this

Because altcoins are backed/priced in by bitcoin so if btcs value falls so does pretty much everything else, kinda like how most of the forex market is effected by usd

In the minds of most investors crypto and bitcoin are the same thing, when they see btc dropping they don't rationally wait for the price of alts to go up, they think the good times are over and panic sell.

Others see bitcoin dropping and want to ride it up, so they're selling alts for btc.

Most are so invested in bitcoin that they're not in a buying mood during a freefall.
