Those buys can be pulled, lower sells can be placed. It's a decent indication of the present, but it's easily manipulated with fake offers.

I don't think it implies that at all... it says there are more people trying to buy it at a lower than current price than there are people trying to sell at a higher than current price, which doesn't really tell you anything about the direction it might go in

It can be manipulated by placing large buy or sell orders, causing observers to think the price will go up or down. Then, they will yank their orders. It only tells part of the story and isn't reliable. I've seen huge sell walls eaten up like nothing countless times.

What you should really be focusing on are trends, volume and chart patterns. Investopedia is a good place to start off.
