I just transfered $50 of btc to bittrex, it says pending on the coinbase side but does not show pending deposit on the bittrex side. anybody else have this issue ? how long do transfers take, this my first coin exchange, is this normal ? what you all think of coinbase in general?

Coinbase is fucking annoying. It'll take a minute for it to show up as pending on bittrex. Or at least it does on bitfinex. Plus confirmations take a while with BTC which btc, is a major criticism of BTC.

Buy all your coin in ETH or LTC and transfer with that. Way faster. Get comfy OP. It'll take an hour
