For example, 10K can buy you equipment to get started in most trades.

OP could be working a full time job and billing $60-100/hr+ in his spare time, doing all sorts of various trades.

For example, I know a friend who just paid $3K to replace an AC unit. I did some research and it turns out the AC guy only paid ~1K for the unit and the job took him 4 hours. That means he made $2K profit in 4 hours of work (tax free).
