The difference is Litecoin has been around almost as long as bitcoin, and is already being widely used and is available on pretty much all the big and semi big exchanges. It is actually being used as a currency in ways that bitcoin even isn't (due to high transfer times and fee's). Businesses don't want to adopt cryptocurrency payments if the coin can swing up or down hundreds of % a week.
