Do you even know how cryptocurrency works? You don't have to download the blockchain just to create a wallet. All you have to do is
>create private key (I suggest dice + dictionary, look up diceware they have tips on how many rolls you need to be cryptographically secure)
>generate corresponding public address (I think myetherwallet does this, there's also a python module made by Vitalik IIRC that can do this as well)
>send your coins to the new address
>check on etherchain.org if that shit has arrived
Downloading the blockchain is not needed.

can you sell BTC for cash on blockchain?
and why not use coinbase since it has both a BTC and ETH wallet?

It *could* be a scam, that's enough. Maybe the maker will only cash out in 5 years, what do you know?
If you create your own private key and use it on an airgapped computer only to create a public address from your private key I think there's little risk. Last time I tried both methods I mentioned above and myetherwallet was correct.

I mean use the downloadable version of myetherwallet offline, btw.

If you trust that web wallet trash anything will do yea?
Literally, just create a wallet on coinbase.com. It's that easy. It has both ETH and BTC.
These retards here are going to give you so much more of a convuluted process, when its really that simple

Yea sure if you don't care about the safety of your coins.
