I got a stupid question which I hope someone can help my low IQ ass out with.

I am sending $500 into an exchange to invest in a shitcoin (probably BAT).

With the recent rise in BTC price would it be better to convert that into ETH and buy on Bittrex or does it work out the same with ETH and BTC.

Price between ETH and BTC will be +/- .5% for BAT based on BTC to ETH exchange rate.

Just use the BTC, unless you expect ETH To appreciate and BAT to depreciate, then buy ETH and wait to buy.

If you're buying altcoins now, it will be pretty much the same cost whether you use BTC or ETH.

If you're holding BTC/ETH, it might be wise to transfer your BTC into ETH and then transfer back after BTC comes back down

I'm separating my crypto investments into two tiers. Buy BTC and hodl forever. Buy shitcoins and measure gains in fiat.

Never measure crypto gains in fiat. Only measure crypto in SAT. If you're losing SAT you're better off holding BTC.

Yes. One sat is 1/100000000 BTC

I would use ETH rather than BTC only because ETH transactions are much faster. It can take hours to transfer BTC from your wallet to an exchange, but only minutes or less for ETH. If that doesn't bother you, go ahead and use BTC

Fair point, I will do this. Can you recommend any ways to keep track of crypto gains?

I am using a spreadsheet to keep track of all fiat I have put in crypto but haven't separated them in to longterm hold and trading shitcoins.
