Hi
I'm student
With about 10k savings
How much should I dump into coin? 2k, 5k, 10k?
Looking to hold
I'm only buying BTC & ETH, what ratio should I buy? Thinking of 1:2

If you're only doing BTC/ETH then dump it all. People ITT will try to convince you to hop on [random shitcoin #32908230894], you'd be best advised to ignore them.
I'd suggest 3-4x ETH to BTC.

Thanx. Planning to ignore all the altcoins cos im only gonna hodl for long.
I know its unlikely, but lets say it fails, what is the chance the whole ETC thing just flops and I lose the 10k? Is getting a little bit of bitcoin even that profitable now or should I just dump everything into ETH

Unlikely.
ETH is an immature ecosystem which has a lot of changes in store. These changes carry risks. For its current value it has very little real-world application. Its network is more ambitious than bitcoin's though and more capable. But how useful and "revolutionary" it'll actually be has yet to be seen.
BTC has first-mover advantage and serves as a better store-of-value given its initial coin distribution, coin issuance model, and lack of central "foundation". It is used to exchange value in the real world but its blockchain lags in technical sophistication and adaptation.
For a long-term hold I would definitely pick up both.
For greater diversification you might consider BCC/ETC but you'll be fine with just BTC/ETH.
I'd hold 3-4 ETH for each BTC and an equal amount of BCC/ETC to BTC/ETH if you go that route for grater diversification.
More important than these choices though is:
IGNORE ALL SHITCOINS
DO NOT DAY TRADE
How about lurking more sweetie. You think you could do that?
Elaborate samefag shilling. Pretty impressive, really. Here's a (you).
