i have a good friend that worked for a large bank for years as a teller. He describes it as a completely soul crushing retail experience that he wouldn't wish on anyone.

I did a few months of software dev at a bank. It was very bureaucratic and soulless. It's especially demoralizing if you're a libertarian type.
