I've been mulling with the idea of getting a linkedin account, is Linkedin worth getting or is it just a flawed social network?
OK for desk jobs but get ready to get flooded by worthless notifications.

I just thought that within certain industries having a profile would be good for recruitment and public presence. Recruiters increasingly use it to fill vacancies. Sounds like there is a lot of spam though.

If you simply want to be recruited, it's as >>2993526 says. Entry-level desk jobs.
If you're using it right, then it is your back up resume for when you're job hunting. You can present a better, more polished version of yourself. So I put up an interesting (but safe) header (see picture), a polished enough picture of my self, a decent profile summary, all my experience (put down accomplishments, not job descriptions), my skills (make sure to have plenty of people endorse you), and anything else that is useful. The HR person of whatever job you're applying to will look you up, so it's your best chance to impress.
