Start with a small amount of money that you can lose.

You will normally need to buy Bitcoin with cash from somewhere like Coinbase. With the bitcoin you can purchase Altcoins on exchanges like Bittrex.

If you figure out how to do those things, you know how to buy crypto, make a transaction, participate in an ICO, and know how ERC20 tokens work
