>one of our lawyers invited me to a networking event
>its a poker tournament
>If I play them with my current skillset I will get my shit caved in
>really want to play because I love poker
Does anyone here play poker? Do you know any resources that will help the most in the shortest amount of time?
It's a charity event type deal most likely. People are there to drink and talk; poker is just the avenue. You'll likely be better than a majority of the people there. It isn't a WSOP tournament.

I don't think its a charity. The invite specifically says its a poker event followed by live music.
I hope you're right though

Just play AA AK for the first hour and you'll be fine. Fold OP
Are you really going to play poker with lawyers?
OP, consider that actually being a shark and taking everyone's money might actually be the worst possible outcome at a networking event such as this.
watch some pros play (WSOP 2016 final table is good to watch), play online free (wsop has a site), play with friends.
youre welcome

There is nothing to lose, it's a free event. There will be decent cash prizes at the end though

What stakes are you playing? Which sites?

During play, randomly perform fake tells to screw with everyone. e.g. scream AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA when you've got a strong hand, and scream I'M GOIN' TO THE MOON! when you've got a weak hand.

guy you're responding to meant that the connections you make playing your genuine best and are likeable will be worth more than the money you'd win if you piss everyone off.
I would disagree with that though, because everyone likes a winner. I know very little about poker, but if you tend to win among your friends you clearly have a formula that works for you. I'd just decide ahead of time how much I'll buy in for and not exceed that, apart from that, I'd use the poker itself as a venue to learn the finer points of the game.
If you are still lurking learn ABC play and twoplustwo.com is the best resource.
ABC play is pretty much standard straight forward play. If you can master this style you can win live casino games at $1/$2. Average hourly profit ~$15 a hour.

everyone should just play behind a piece of plywood so nobody can see their tells
